    This morning I drank my first cup of coffee watching this newly released video on Squarebills from you guys. I then went to Bass Pro Shop here in town and bought some KVD's-- 2.5 Squarebill in Sexy Shad. I also bought some Gamakatsu EWG hooks in the "Red" Color. Came home, made the hook changes and went fishing. I caught fish all afternoon, not bass, BUT BIG BASS. I caught an eight pounder, a seven, and two five pounders, and a bunch of two thru four pounders. My best five fish weight was nearly 30 pounds. They didn't take a straight retrieve either, they wanted it ripped like a jerkbait being ripped through the cover. Wind it a bit, then rip it upward. I had being doing pretty good with the silent KVD's but adding the sound and that red hook appearing like trailing entrails worked unbelievably.

    Thanks Matt. Extremely few people go into detail that I can actually use in utube. You and Tim taught me how to fish. I started "bass school" watching you guys May 2020. Just from you guys I was quickly out-fishing everyone around me. And I did it on a low budget agonizing over every dollar.

    I started to throw a square bill this past Monday. First two I caught were a 2 1/2 pound largemouth and a 5 lbs. 1 oz. large mouth. I’m up here in New Hampshire and the water is in the high 40s. Loving this new technique.

    Every bass angler I know does the same thing- we get into the sport and we go nuts buying tackle and gear- and then about a year into it we realize we bought all the wrong stuff. Then we go back and try and fill in the gaps we left. When I bought squarebills for instance I just bought what looked cool to me- paid zero attention to whether it had a rattle or not, how loud the rattle was, what depth it swam at, or the color. Now I'm going back to buy silent squarebills and ghost colors- two things I had no idea I really needed when I first started back bass fishing.
    Luckily I did at least know green pumpkin was a good color for plastics- I bought nearly everything I bought in green pumpkin when I first started back- and black and blue. And tbh all I had to add to that was some plum and some Junebug and I was covered on plastics. Well, I have started using motor oil when it's high pressure and blue bird skies, no wind- motor oil gets it done.

    Hey Matt! In your videos could you include effective water temp ranges on techniques and baits? I think this is paramount to fishing in the fall especially up in the north and Northeast right now where water temps are low 50's to high 40's. Awesome vid as always!

    I've been cranking since July and now water temp is in the mid 40's and still catching fish burning crankbaits. I'm using a shimamo crucial cranking rod with a shimamo slx 8.2:1 gear ratio, 15lb powerpro braid with 14lb mono leader. Best cranking setup I've used so far. Burning a crankbait will definitely produce more fish IMO.

    This is the best Bass canal. I have tried here in Italy new Berkley pittbull and it works great.. it is inexpensive but my favorite squarebills are megabass s-crank 1.2 and imakatsu ik 50.. the colors are amazing.. Also the megabass Granade and deps evoke 4.0 are killers on big fish. I want to try the new Big M 4.0 and 7.5... i think that they are good for fish that are hiding deep but want a larger profile

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 845 is a bit stiffer through the whole blank. It makes it easier to set bigger hooks and apply more pressure when they're trying to jump. Both rods work, the 845 just keeps them pinned better.
