  • Ready to "Trigger" fish to bite like never before?! These tips are the real deal! Learn to force bass to react instead of waiting for them to want to bite. The power of a properly fished jerkbait is unlike any other lure.
The jerk bait draws on a bass' core response. It can trigger an instinctual feeding response from a fish, regardless of their desire to bite. You're about to learn how to use a jerk bait to its fullest potential.
There are a lot of great baits on the market but some seem to be more consistent than others. Below is a list of the baits we fish with confidence from prespawn to postspawn.
    Large baits...
    Megabass Kanata: bit.ly/2jG4Q85
    Jackall Rerange 130: bit.ly/2ge0qED

I remember KVD saying to always use a slack line when working a jerk bait and point your rod at the bait after each jerk. I never forgot that. It gives it great action and like you said, you dont get that swimming action between pauses. Great tips. Thanks Matt!

Enjoyed this video, as I've learned a ton from you over the years! It's crazy how the same techniques and baits are used so differently in different parts of the country. Here in the Midwest, you CAN'T underwork a jerkbait when the water is under 45 degrees most of the time. I outfish fools all the time that are hitting it hard like you described...that's what makes fishing so incredible. THUMBS UP on another great vid!

These retrieval instructions were exact. I went fishing in the usual small pond today and was getting no bites with soft plastics so I decided to try a hard jerkbait and use these instructions and caught 3 easily already. Never caught a legit fish on a hard bait before u were right I was missing out. I would have probably gotten skunked again today without this video😂👍thanx!

I had one of the best days of my life yesterday on a jerkbait. I caught approximately twenty largemouth,. The first fish was a 7.4, and the rest were in the 2-3 pound range with a 5.6 in the mix. But what really set this day apart was catching four giant grass carp. They were not foul hooked, rather they had the lure in their mouth. My seasoned semi-pro buddy and I both thought the first one was a fluke, but I proceeded to catch three more. I broke my personal best freshwater fish on 10# test Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon line, and I had never caught a carp before. I didn’t weigh the carp, but our best guess is the biggest was approximately 25 pounds with the smallest around 16. I was throwing a 3.75” Yo-Zuri Hardcore 95F in skeleton Ayu with four suspension strips to keep it down. Water clarity was 6-7 feet, which is clear for this reservoir. I’ve seen Matt catch a giant carp on a plug before, so I know you guys will believe me. I have photos and a video clip on my TH-cam channel and my Facebook page. Facebook page is under Food Chain Lures. I appreciate you guys more than you know, and you have taught this 40+ years of experiences angler so much that has made me a better fisherman. Thank you guys!

Here in Alabama, PEARL WHITE is the best fluke color. I use albino or crazy chrome on clear, sunny days and pearl or silver rainbow in low light. Also, mardi gras or watermelon magic when they're eating bream, then lightning shad if their forage is catfish or shiners. A pearl or baitfish color tiny fluke on a ³/¹⁶oz gets the nod when we're after huge stripers and fiercely mean, fat magnum spotted bass in the tailraces of the lower Coosa River dams. Got my PB striper on this, on ML spinning gear, a coupla years back- a 16lb 12oz monster...IN HEAVY CURRENT!

Once you start throwing a jerkbait and start getting bit...youre gonna be jerkin allll the time😉 it gets addictive.

Great video, Matt, as always. Terrific information on the details of jerkbaiting. Oh, I think I know that 12+ bass you showed! Now I have to shuffle my jerkbaits for tomorrow. Swap Staysee 120s out for 90s. And I need to go find a Katana. $$$

Just made a setup with 6lb mono tied to a 2500 series reel and a 6'6 med, fast rod. Cant tell you how much fun it is to throw finesse jerkbaits up to 5/8 ounce and have such a light rod for perfect reactions.
