    Tim’s concept of a finesse approach to a lipless is amazing! No way in hell would I have thought of that, it makes so much sense to mimick baitfish feeding on the bottom with the profile of a lipless crank. I love these types of videos

      Fishing In The City lol me too bro I've lost more baits than I care to admit. Trees, rocks, other anglers, my boat and myself I hook just about everything but fish most of the time. If I had the money I've spent and lost on lures I could have retired in the 90's lol

      That's my favorite technique. I bank fish in the susquehanna river in pa and it's the easiest place to loose $60 worth of tackle in like 30mins.

    • @telefunkenyou47
      @telefunkenyou47 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Fishing is like gambling. You went straight to the $20 slots, looking for the big jackpot. $1 slots would have been 20x the casts. (and so on, etc.)
      So stay with the minimum bet that you are comfortable with losing, for the amount of fishing time that it offers. But know this.......The house always wins. So we all pay to fish........
      Unless, we can find one of those sugar momma's.

    I love this stuff, You got to break it down. I liked how Matt keyed in on that it was important to be more specific on how Tim was fishing it in more of a jig style as opposed to burning the bait. Great stuff. The picture that is my thumbnail was a fall bass caught doing just that.

    Guys: I feel your pain. I've walked out of tackleshops totally brain-fried looking for my lipless crankbait answers. It is such a massive topic, and I don't envy you guys trying to handle it, but I sure do appreciate it. You listed some great baits, and I figured out how good that cotton cordell spot is when I caught a nice smallmouth while worming it in a muddy river. Underrated bait. Great video.

    Funny that you said at the end: "I hope we didn't just bury you completely with crazy information"....it had the opposite effect for me! Love the video and information was spot-on! I love lipless cranks, but some days I get nothing on my trusty color and rattle sound...so now I'm motivated to experiment with other brands, sounds, sizes, and techniques. That's for what you guys do!

    Been fishing lipless goodness since late 70’s and ya the spot has been my most consistent producer. When I want a loud bait I go to the Rat L Trap. Been fishing that bait since early 80’s. But lipless is a bait I have the most of. I’ve fished all brands and price ranges. You are so right. How far down that rabbit hole do you wanna go. It’s my go to confidence bait for sure. Great job guys

I’m also fishing quite a lot and applying your tactics. I think you guys are great! Keep it up. I spend so much time on your videos and I’m a subscriber for about a year now. I love these kinds of videos from you. You both end up costing me a ton of money, but from the rods and reels to the braid and flouro, to the lures and techniques, you've helped me fine tune my game. I'm a bass fisherman from NJ...a long way from Clear Lake, but your instructional videos hit my sweet spot every time. I'm better at what I love to do thanks to both of you. Thanks and please keep it up. TacticalBassin is my go-to channel for all things fishing.

    Episode Series idea: short bank fishing tip breakdown for all of these in-depth presentations. It's a different thing throwing a lipless from a boat on a lake versus on the bank of a pond.
    I think a short series of bank specific tips on categories like these could be well-received. Thanks for all the content!

    Last May I caught my personal best Largemouth and Smallmouth bass on lipless crankbaits. The Largemouth I used the Rapala Rippin Rap 05 Bluegill pattern. Then I tied on the Lucky Craft LV500 Golden shiner lipless and caught my PB Smallmouth bass. Both on a ST Croix Legend Glass M/M. Both felt like a snag at first the I knew I got bit. Great video as always guys...THANKS!

    Lipless such a versatile fish bait. Love throwing them for pike, walleye at night, bass all the time. Always looking at them at the store, and always forget hooks. Lol. River fishing banging the cheap ones of rocks for small mouth. Wish i tried on a leader as a kid. Its murder trying to break straight braid when burrowed into the rocks. First videos I watch when waking up are yours when posted. Great job.

    When I entered the bass fishing world in Montana, I began with Strike King's KVD red eye shad assortment for every reason you spoke of. The variations on a theme and upgrading is my area of confusion. I will see this one again.

    Lures for bass fishin are even more diversified that lures for trouts. When I began my pursuit of smallmouth on the Musselshell River in 2009, I ordered $750 in gear from Bass Pro. The red eye shad group was probably the first order. You present good cases for all of these price points. Amusingly, probably my best producer on the river has been the Cotton/Cordell all silver red eye shad. And, for all the reasons you mentioned on camera. I did the hooks and rings on all of them too. Not Cheap, but one big smallie erases all thoughts of expense. It did for me, at least. I really don't know how much money I've put into tackle. A lot. Thanks for the rod/reel data. I'm using a 7' UglyStik I converted into a 6'10' mMF action Microwave guide train. Spinning gear, its Montana.

    OMG!! Stop!! Now the lipless Cordell is going to be out of the bin box and on the rack for $12.99 lmao... I'm the anal retentive guy you talked about in the beginning of the video, I wish I was the nine year old but I am 7x that age.
    I have plenty of Lucky Craft and Strike Kings and am now proud to say I have plenty of Carl 'Cotton' Cordell's too for anybody that cares thanks to this TB Vid lmao... Most of them don't have any paint left. 1970's the Big 'O' and the Hot Spot, bought them from Woolworth and Montgomery Wards. When they put Bill Dance's name on a Cordell the price quadrupled!
    Definitely a must to change out split rings and hooks on all crankbaits. Manufacturers have a lot of competition when it comes to crankbaits. The only way to save production costs really, is to cut back on split rings and hook expenses. The mass market is catching Dinks to three or four pounders.
    When you catch a fish that pulls your ass from the front of the boat to the back in 0.5 seconds and you come up with a lipless that has a broken off hook from the tail treble and the belly treble and split ring are missing, you will definitely become a hook and split ring specialist.
    I recommend split rings from the saltwater section wherever you purchase them from in 20-35#. $3 for 100 rings. Can't help with cost-savings on hooks. I buy pretty expensive hooks because they come from pretty expensive alloy but they're worth every penny. Sharp hooks are very forgiving for just about every mistake I make...

    • @chriscosby51
      @chriscosby51 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr. FatBasstard you're absolutely right. I am obsessive about hooks and such. I have never fished a swimbait with stock hooks.

    • @mr.fatbasstard648
      @mr.fatbasstard648 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BNC Reptiles absolutely. Before the turn of the century there was a crisis in the steel industry quality that eventually made its way all the way down to fishing hooks. Commercial and Recreational Anglers alike we're noticing high rates of hook bend outs and break offs. Hudelson was one of the first companies to start using quality control and specialized hook manufacturers... What good is a $40 8" swimbait with hooks that bend out and break off lol. Tactical Bassin has a swimbait rigging video where Matt mentions bend outs and break offs on larger swimbaits. Good luck out there man :-)

    • @mr.fatbasstard648

      lukkyluciano... Lucky Luciano!!! LOL Carl Richey 'Cotton' Cordell Jr was known for taking gangsters such as Frank Costello and Owney Madden fishing back in the 1940s. Hot Springs Ark. was considered neutral territory between rival gangs when fishing.

    You said "dirt cheap" I've caught my PB on an ozark trail shallow crank. Also tried the cheap version of the whopper plopper by ozark trail. Cheap works in terms of baits. Time and time again.

    Love your videos like this TB, you really hit the nail on the head with silent lipless crankbaits. I've caught my PB of 6lb 12oz Smallie with a Strike King silent lipless crankbait in a 1/2oz Chartreuse baitfish colour during the spring transition when everyone was using a rattletrap before the spawn while using a Med. Moderate action Kistler crankbait rod that has a soft tip so that no hooks will be pulled out while fighting the fish and the reel was a Lew's American hero spooled with 10lb-12lb Trilene Sensation flouro

    I can watch in depth, technical videos all day, esp when they're backed by credible experience! Question: if you can only hang one single hook on a lipless, would you place it in the belly or the tail?

    • @jjkin5211
      @jjkin5211 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Belly, tail hook ups are more likely to pop off

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you're right, but tail hooks are much more weedless if you're yoyoing...

      I would go belly bc alot of fish swipe at the head of actual bait fish and stun them fish also tend to eat bait head first your hookups will be better and you'll be less likely to lose fish

      Tail hook, fewer snags/weeds.

    Lets go down another tunnel in that rabbit hole... The Evergreen that sits nose down while on bottom is a deadly bed fish bait. They destroy magic gill and I feel I have a better hook up ratio that the Matt lures blue gill... I'm a lipless junkie in the spring and fall. I 100% agree with everything you said. I would recommend the Cordel spot for 1-3 feet of water, the normal redeye for 2-5 feet, 2tap redeye for 5-7 and the LV500 for anything over 7.
