    the dummer in my band has a drum kit that is made up of these very small toms, one gets mic'd up, while the rest he puts triggers on to make it sound like different parts of the kit. yes even his bass drum is a small tom, with custom kick pedals and triggers. (i hope this makes sense, im not sure of the technical words and stuff im not a drummer. but its true his kit is just small toms)

    Very nice thank you. I love the high pitch. I'm getting a 6" Gretsch tom so I wanted to hear what it sounds like. Love it...

      Thank you. Your Gretsch is going to sound awesome. Make a video of it, and put in on youtube. I'd love to hear it.

    I often see 6" used rack-toms at Reverb.com; but Your PVC rack-tom there looks and sounds terrific. Great job there!
    This will help me as a visual reference for making pancake drums from an 8" or a 10" diameter PVC pipe
    (if such large diameter sizes are available, unless I grab some scrap PVC pipes from road-work construction sites)
    I also have an old stainless steel coffee percolator that is 7.5" diameter and sturdy enough for an 8" percussive tom.

      Heck yeah. A coffee tom would be excellent!

      Is it double-headed or a concert tom?

      Whats the dimension? 6×?

      The shell is 6" deep; 6.5" with rims from rim edge to rim edge. The width is 6.5" shell, and 7.25" from rim edge to edge.

    Btw, Remo will custom-make any size head you want, for future reference. It might take a little while to get, though.

    nice job! I was so close to doing this until you said the hoops didnt fit.
    I used x4 6 inch wooden tambourine shells fused together, I only use it for the occasional peter criss solo..

    • @hoochrocks
      @hoochrocks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great idea.

    I have an old 6 piece set of Ludwigs that I want to expand similarly, but I've decided to get a set of tunable bongos, then modify them to mount on a stand. Hope it works ok. Cool job on your project man!

    • @hoochrocks
      @hoochrocks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had bongos as a kid. The thing with the ones I had is they had hand percussion type heads, and they didn't hold up to the drum stick abuse.

      ahhhhh....well thank you for the heads up with that info! You saved me from disappointment. I may use your method instead, and really appreciate your video and info within it bruh. Keep on keepin on!

    Nice work man. Is darbuka head durable enough while using drumsticks?

    • @hoochrocks
      @hoochrocks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a little thin. I ended buying black dots for cheap on amazon, and making a video of the application on the drum head.

    That's a small target to hit. An 8" is bad enough.

    • @hoochrocks

      This is true. It's definitely a challenge.

  • @erraticboss168

    Could I do this for a 8"x7"?

    • @hoochrocks
      @hoochrocks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can find the pipe, then yes. The big stores like Lowes and Home Depot didn't carry 5" or 6" PVC, so bigger may be more difficult yet. You could perhaps find some other kind of pipe rather than PVC as long as the thickness is not too thin or thick. You likely need to go to a pipe manufacturer. Make sure you know the outside diameter of the pipe so your rim isn't too small.

      hoochrocks ok I'm planning on doing this but I'm pretty nervous.

    • @hoochrocks
      @hoochrocks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do it. I had no clue what I was doing when I started. Just take your time. I'd love to see the video when you finish, so make sure to document it as you go, so that when you are done, you can show everyone.

      I can find pipe up to 14 inches on eBay. It's pricey though.

    where did you get the pipe

  • @RedRat-wb4kt

    If you would have gotten metal pipe it would be 6 inches
