    Watching Hyun's Canon R50 video while I'm repairing a Minolta XE-7 film camera ... it just can't get any better.

    I liked the R-50 overall when I got it a few months ago - had to pass it on to a relative though and get another camera when I couldn't shoot night time landscape/stars (without moon or other artificial lighting around).
    The viewfinder/panel simply did not have the capacity to show the scene even with settings cranked to max.
    I would have to take several pre-shots - moving the camera on the tripod and guessing the correction for each shot until I got the composition I wanted.
    I then thought about getting the R-8 but the camera store basically said I couldn't make a return if it still ended up not being good enough.
    So because I saw a video on the 6400 of a guy shooting in the same lighting conditions and was showing the scene to be perceptable enough plus having a feature called brightness monitor to boost the display I decided to get the a6700 which since it's in the same series would have the same or better feature.
    It turns out I don't even need the brightness monitor on the a6700 as even at max settings I can still see the scene.
    Perhaps if I upgraded to the R-8 I would have similarly gotten a better lit viewfinder since both the R-8 and a 6700 are in higher category of camera compared to the R-50.
    Too bad, I generally like Canon cameras over Sony - though this new a6700 gives the impression of a quality built body and has been working out well so far with some good glass.

    3:05 remember when everyone complained the flip up screens were blocked by shotgun mics? At least you can cold mount a mic anywhere else, use a lav, etc. You can't work around the port blocking the screen and not have to use external audio. 😂

    So you need to buy a large and expensive RF full-frame lens from Canon? For example a 24mm F2.8 if you want a 35mm full-frame equivalent prime lense. Will be difficult to convince people to leave the M-line.

    • @HyunRalphJeong
      @HyunRalphJeong  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hopefully they'll release more lenses soon and would love to get some new bodies like the M200 or M6 equivalents for the RF mount.

    • @gainde1137
      @gainde1137 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HyunRalphJeong Yes, hope too. Otherwise they ditch their APS-C line and just keep the cheap R50/R10/R7 bodies to lure beginners into full-frame as they already have to buy RF lenses. To buy old EF/EF-S lenses and use them with adapters can't be a longterm practice.

    • @gainde1137
      @gainde1137 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HyunRalphJeong they really need to release some RF-S pancake lenses (24/35/50/85mm full-frame equivalent) otherwise they loose beginners and street photographers to Fuji and smartphone companies.

    • @michaelbell75
      @michaelbell75 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      APS-C lenses are garbage and will be useless if you ever move up to a FF camera. Quality glass is much more important than the body. A FF RF lens is going to give you much better image quality than any APS-C lens.

    Liked the m50 and m6 but went for the r10 instead of the r50 as b-cam. A lil bit more money but far better specs for my needs. Using the rf24 f1.8 and rf 35mm on it which also would do a good job on the r50. As well enjoy the kit lens 18-150 quite a lot and it has actually pretty decent footage

    • @nunonunes097
      @nunonunes097 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by far better specs? What are they? I'm undecided between both and I say many saying r10 is much better for photography. I just don't know in what, except for shutter speed I believe. I'm not sure. I'm a total beginner 😅

    • @mb-watches
      @mb-watches ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nunonunes097 to me it’s better because I do more video related work and the video specs on the r10 are better.
      Shutter speed for foto ist as well better but depending on what you shoot not really relevant. If you just wanna do Street photography or family shots or take the camera with you for travelling than the R50 is a great and compact camera. At a 24mm and 35mm prime and maybe the 18-150 kit lens and you are good to go.
      That said, the price gap between the r50 and r10 isn’t that high, depending also which discount you could get, but often they are pretty close pricewise and than I would go for the r10 as it offers a bit more.
      Hope that helped a little bit

    Man first of all, this was incredible! Second of all and something to think about is another reason to buy this camera.
    There is a USB-C port designed to have visibility on a computer (i.e. OBS) without the need for Canon webcam utility or a capture card.
    I would say that this put's it light years above other previous models since you remove a hardware failure point (capture card) as well as a software failure point (webcam utility).
    Otherwise this was so great man thanks again! ❤❤❤

(1080/2.7k/4k) I have found that my camera doesn't heat up any more than on 1080 in the 2.7k mode but the clarity is still excellent. I use that setting out in the woods. The other thing is that there is a adapter enabling you to use the older AF/MF cannon lens on the R50 which I plan to do. Again thanks for the info.

    Thanks! That was the best comparison yet, of the R50 vs the M50!
    Since I still have so many great EF-M lenses, I really wish Canon would have created the M50 Mark III with the R50's video specs and processor.
    Essentially, create the R50, the R10, and the R7, but offer them with the EF-M mount as well. The RF versions could be options for the full frame RF users; But, without alienating all of the EF-M camera owners.
    I don't think that would be too hard, or costly for them to do?
    Or, Canon could just allow third party autofocus lenses for the RF mount!

    I currently have the R7 and use the m50 as my travel camera. The lens selection is so vast for the M50 it’s ridiculous compared to the RF mount 😭 I have two lenses for my R7 currently and that’s the sigma 18-35mm f1.8 (w/ an adapter ofc) and a TTartisans 24mm t1.05 (native). Switching to this RF mount has turned me towards manual lenses, which isn’t necessarily bad but autofocus as an option is so nice. I don’t think I’ll upgrade my M50 until it dies at this point 🤧🤚🏾

    Ive got bad news for you if you are expecting dozens of RF-S lenses, it won't happen. Most people put FF lenses on their crop body cameras for various reasons. Much better image quality, the longer focal length and the fact that the lens won't become useless if they upgrade to a FF camera. I always used to put an EF 50mm 1.8 on my crop sensor Rebel cameras. Why? Because I got an 85mm 1.8 for MUCH cheaper than actually buying an EF 85mm lens. The main problems with the R50 is that it's about $200 overpriced.
