    Great video :)
    I'm currently using BMPCC 6K as a main camera and I also wonder if there's any point in ever upgrading it to a RED or full-blown URSA. It pretty much does everything I need for a quarter of the RED Komodo price, the only thing it may lack from time to time is a global shutter sensor, but still you rarely pan the camera fast enough to make it a serious problem. And when I think of all the hassle and extra money it would take to additionally rig a Komodo (let alone a bigger RED with a camera body costing a few times more than my entire current film gear combined) I wonder if it's ever really worth it.
    One good thing a full-blown film camera has (even a BMPCC 4K) is the video oriented workflow, as opposed to the video functions crammed within a photo camera. That itself was instantly refreshing after years of shooting with a DSLR, the intuitiveness of operation is incomparably better :D

    Hmmm. As a dual Sony and M43 user I'm surprised that the later didn't get a mention (and please don't mention noise as often the insanely good IBIS means lower ISOs and possible shutter speeds but with modern NR software even if there is a little noise it's easy to remove). For video-centric shooters the new Pana G9ii (and there are other excelelnt Olympus and Panasonic-Leica camera for smaller budgets) is superb and although around $1,800 at the moment I'm sure used can be found around $1,500 squeezing into that budget limit. Add on that M43 are small, lightweight and cheaper than full frame lenses, whilst being of equal quality, and that's a compelling package.
    I'd also add for those unaware, that f1.2 or f1.4 M43 lenses (generally way cheaper, smaller and lighter than their FF cousins) still collect that amount of light on an M43 camera, though the perceived DoF doubles. The DoF doubling can in itself can be a pro though for some shooters (more DoF at wider apertures) not a con (if you want bokeh, bokeh, bokeh). Clients want to see the background at shoots such as weddings, travel, cityscapes etc. and the M43 lenses will give you that whilst retaining the light gathering of fast lenses.

    i bought the expensive r6ii before the cheaper r8 was launched. if they existed same time i wouldve bought r8. its basically the same camera, they just removed the fancy features i dont care about. the r8 is really a great deal. your list is solid. no complaints. i would personally pick the r50 over the zve10 due to viewfinder and better display. but still great choice. i feel the video shouldve been longer or make a second one. i expected you categorize the videos into travel, landscape, talking videos, vlog, action videos etc.

    Got one more thought about the sensor sizes: I used to be highly fixated on full frame sensors when upgrading DSLR from an APS-C Nikon D7100 to a more professional D750 years ago. At some point, I realized all the major film cameras have an APS-C standard anyway (Super 35mm is much closer to this than to a still camera Full-Frame) and now I pretty much only shoot videos on S35/APS-C combo, with my B-cams being Nikon Z30 APS-C cameras :D this way I got an advantage of similar crop factors no matter which camera I use a lens with. I now only really care about a full-frame sensor if I have to crank up the fish-eye effect of my 14mm lens.

    • @MrPaulXavier
      @MrPaulXavier  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Fair perspective! I think for controlled shoots APS-C is totally fine but for run and gun people who might not always have the control over lighting and other factors... full frame will make their lives much easier.

    • @AesirViking
      @AesirViking 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheLinesEnd why not, it's doable as long as you have a good follow focus device and adequate focus view (peaking, etc). And working with Samyang VDSLR lenses or similar, you have to use manual focus anyway, no matter what camera you put them on ;)

      @@TheLinesEnd Yeah, that's true that it sucks :D In my case the reason to keep with Nikon is mostly the Nikon F lens set I have, as I bought the first Nikon DSLR (D750) before video autofocus in photo cameras really started to be a thing :D

    Main competitor to Canon R8 is the Nikon Z5 which Z5 has new firmware updates with much improved focus tracking (which really sticks to subjects) and Z5 has IBIS in body stabilization, which R8 does not. Z5 has full size batteries, R8 has smaller batteries. Z5 has Flat Picture profile high dynamic range video which can be color graded and usable compared to Canon's C-Log. Z5 has tilt screen instead of vari angle screen but you could just add a small 5 inch monitor on top when you need to self vlog. In the end, R8 and Z5 are both good cameras in FF for good quality video. For the Nikon Z5, it is ideal to get a prime for low light or the small kit, but also get the Z 24-200mm VR lens which is made for video as it is stabilized and smooth zooming. (or get Z24-70mm F4 or Z28-75mm F2.8) In the end are you a Canon shooter, Sony or Nikon shooter. All good.

      I recently picked up a new Panasonic S5 II for $1,300. Compared to my Canon and Sony cameras, I like the S5 II much better. It has higher resolution than the A7S III so I can use it for photography. I bought the S5 II over the A7IV because the low light performance is so much better. Some have compared its low light performance to the A7S III and although it won't beat it, it holds its own all the way to the end. I also prefer the colors much more than the yellow green Sony default.

    I think the Panasonic S5 IIX is a good in between option when going from a $1,500 camera like the Canon R8 to the $3,500 Sony A7siii. It’s priced right at $2k, is full frame, great AF, etc. Awesome video, you got a sub from me.

      If you look around you can find the S5II for less. I got one new for $1,300. But the Panasonic G9 II is also an amazing camera that can do 4k 120 and has gimbal like IBIS. It also records 8k video with a 1.33x squeeze anamorphic lens. Not to mention I like the 4:3 aspect ratio open gate recording because I can easily take a video and crop for social media.

    No matter what a camera CAN do, it won't do anything by itself. The user has to pick it up and turn it on. So the user experience is the most important thing. I've used Canon DSLRs for years, so I have a collection of EF and EF-S lenses that easily adapt to the RF line. I will probably pick up a full-frame mirrorless (R6-II) at some point, but for now I'm shooting video on an R50. Sometimes that feels like I have a lens with a camera attached.

      I agree, it is such a solid camera at an such a good price for with it sharing the same sensor as the fx3 and a7siii with nifty ai features. It does have a couple draw backs that may be deal breakers for some. The single UHS-II SD card slot may deter those who worry about redundancy and the not wanting to risk the SD card failing on them. Also I am sure the ai features help out a lot, but I worry little about the compression rate killing a bit of the quality seeing that it can do 4:2:2 and if you like slowmo I think they had a firmware update a little while back or still planned to support 4k 120 especially running both I think I would prefer a cf-express card, but take this comment is based in slight ignorance since I don't own the zv-e1 and only mainly going off the specs from when it launched. I know it had an overheating issue when it came out, but I have seen some inexpensive 3rd party fans that pretty much fixed that issue. Overall it is still an insane amount of camera for sub 2500 new and it is designed for a specific audience and outside of the couple "maybe deal breakers" will fit any aspiring creators and will give an amazing image even for new creators. Great video here for new people looking to break into camera work. I think two honorable mentions just because how cheap you can get them used and great for hybrid shooters are the Nikon z6ii and the original Lumix s5 auto focus is just okay compared to Canon or Sony on those cameras, but pack some great video features like 4k 60(cropped though) and can shoot raw video with an external recorded. Defiantly a huge step up for Nikon who I would of never even looked at for video in the past. Sorry this comment ended up being longer than expected. Hopefully helps someone even just a little with making a camera choice.

    I’ve got the A7S3 and honestly sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between that and an iPhone.
    When it comes to editing, iPhone videos are really tough on the computer, at least in my experience. And the wide angle lens on the iPhone isn’t really my fave. I usually like something like 35mm or 50mm

      Perhaps you need to shoot in log and 10-bit, but you can't compare a full-frame camera to an iPhone.

    • @joe_zupko
      @joe_zupko 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've compared using 4k 10bit SLOG3 4:2:2 on the Sony to just regular 4k30 on the iPhone 13 Pro, and the main differences show when there's a lot of dynamic range going on.
      For flatter looking scenes it's harder to tell. Scenes like a white bathroom or a snowy field.
      What I notice more is the focal length differences.
      I definitely prefer the Sony, but the extra weight, complexity, and file sizes can make it easier to wanna grab the iPhone at times haha @@santiagovillegas2932

    Appreciate your work. I have a question.
    i want a camera for travel filmmaking and 20% of wildlife filmmaking in it.
    My priorities: No crop 4k 120fps, cinema look, good autofocus, reliability, etc
    I've selected Sony A7siii as my choice. but the problem is its out of my budget right now(even the used price). I was thinking about getting a used A7sii for the first year and collecting good lenses, then when I have enough budget I can upgrade to a7Siii or FX3.
    what do you think about this approach?? feel free to add anything u want.

    • @MrPaulXavier
      @MrPaulXavier  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you definitely want to stick with sony I would probably suggest the a7iv (used) as it's also a better photo camera. The a7sii is good but the color science on it is much worse than the a7iv or the a7siii.
      other wise the canon r8 would suit all of your goals except the 4k 120

    Hi, just discovered this video.
    What camera would you suggest for someone who's upgrading from a 5D Mark IV and thinking about moving to mirrorless? I most shoot rock/metal band concerts and occasionally portraits. But nowadays I'm often finding myself having to do video works for musicians too and not getting satisfactory results in post since my camera doesn't have log (Cinestyle is not doing it for me). So yeah, I'm looking for something that can shoot fast action in low light and also can give me good log footage. Can you point me in the right direction?

    Would really like to hear your take on high end Camcorders. They do alot of the things the full frame cameras mentioned in this video does at a fraction of the cost. For about $1000 bucks, The Canon Vixia HF G70 checks alot of boxes. It's weird that Camcorders are over looked for Aspiring TH-camrs even as they are simpler to use, built primarily for video, and can even shoot in the much sought after frame rate of 24fps for that cinematic look.

    This is a great video with good intentions but I have to disagree for the camera selection. As a Sony user, I think canon R5 deserves to be mentioned. Also what about the Sony ZV-E1 ? It has same sensor as the A7SIII with the same low light performance ? Also in term of budget for filming there is the FX30 ? and talking about top-notch video camera I believe FX3 deserves also to be mentioned.

    • @MrPaulXavier
      @MrPaulXavier  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're not wrong at all, but I had to draw the line somewhere, it would be a pointless video If I recommended 20 cameras for people to just go and do more research on.
      FX30 is great if you're already invested in sony but otherwise I think the average person get more value out of the r8. Don't get me wrong there are certain people where the fx30 is likely better but again I'm trying to approach in broad strokes without making it an hour long video.
