    I just rented the R50 and am super pumped about the 10 Bit HDR mode, What are your thoughts on the lens selection? Great video btw.

    • @jasonpeishan
      @jasonpeishan ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. Just wondering if you shoot in HDR PQ mode, what color space will you use in adobe premiere pro and when you export the video will you convert to rec709? I found out that if I use the rec709 for HDR PQ on the timeline, the video will be overexpose. But if I use rec2020 together with clog LUT, the colors looked way better

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the kind words and yeah lens selection is a bit of a problem with the Canon RF-S system at the moment so there are barely any lenses to chose from other than non wide angle kit lenses... 18-45mm is not to bad for a kit lens, but the 18-150mm is significantly better I would say and you can see that clearly in this video: th-cam.com/video/BV6Xf_EVBS4/w-d-xo.html I just started using the 55-210mm which I got with this kit and it also appears to be really good so far considering the price and zoom range. I did not pixel peep anything yet on the 55-210mm though... Other than that you have a few affordable RF primes like the 16mm, 24mm and 35mm. The RF L lenses are incredible quality, but they are huge and very expensive so for this camera don't make the most sense to me. Beyond that you have some fully manual lenses that look like fun... As far as the 10-bit HDR-PQ mode, I used it on the R10 and R6 Mark II and found it hard to use so I would be very interested in seeing your findings on that! All the best, Jay

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I think you were asking The Film Alliance, but I can tell you in Final Cut I had to use the HDR option on the footage and then Final cut new what to do with it. I'm not sure if Premier has something similar.. However, I still found it hard to use for the most part, both exposing "correctly" on the camera and trying to grade the footage in post. I need more practice with it for sure, but I do much prefer grading regular log footage.

    • @jasonpeishan
      @jasonpeishan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jason Hermann thanks for the reply. Yeah I agree with you. But R50 doesn't come with canon log. I also noticed that once I shoot in HDR PQ mode the video quality seems to be much softer compared to the normal mode but retains more highlight and shadows.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is correct no Clog and yes the 10-bit HDR-PQ mode has more information for sure in the highlights and shadows... The issue for me is, the workflow when using it. I need to practice with it more for sure!

  • @blueridgebonsai9155
    @blueridgebonsai9155 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Jason-I know that when an EF lens is used with the R50 a 1.6 crop factor is imposed. In some video reviews it is sometimes implied or said outright that the 1.6 crop factor also applies to the 18-45mm kit lens when used with the R50. I always thought that lenses like the 18-45mm kit lens designed for a cropped sensor camera were specifically designed to allow them to operate with the specified focal length, am I wrong? Are they true 18-45mm or 28.8-72mm?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the "crop factor" is very confusing at first! The effective focal range is what I am referencing. You don't need to do this for full frame cameras/ lenses because effective is the same as what the lens says. On crop factor cameras the lens numbers still reference to full frame standard of measurement. This is why we need to calculate the "effective" focal length when using the smaller sensor cameras. This is also why some crop factor cameras use 1.6x and others use 1.5x due to the actual sensor size... Basically with crop factors you get more effective zoom when compared to a full frame camera. One more example I will give is if you want a 35mm look on a crop factor camera you would need to do the math and figure that out. so basically it would be 35mm / 1.6x which gives you ~22mm.... So if filming with a crop factor camera you would need to use a 22mm lens to give you the same "field of view" as what a 35mm lens would give you on a full frame camera. Again, because the standard is measured in full frame when it comes to focal lengths this is why we need to do the math....

    • @blueridgebonsai9155
      @blueridgebonsai9155 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Jason_Hermann Yes, I understand all that but that doesn’t answer the basic question, is does the 18-45mm kit lens provide the true 18-45mm range of view or does it too crop to 28.8-72mm?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blueridgebonsai9155 You always have to apply the crop factor unless you are using a full frame camera with a full frame lens. So yes it is an "effective" 28.8-72mm...

    Which one is better for beginner and first camera sony zv e10 or canon eos r50?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both are great options Dany, and I would prefer having the viewfinder for photography in particular, but the ZV-E10 is a little better in a few ways for video I would say. If you don't think you will use the electronic viewfinder for your eye in bright conditions, then I would go with the ZV-E10. If you want that viewfinder for bright conditions then something like the Sony A6100: geni.us/Jd1DG9 or the Canon R50 would be a great option. Also, Sony has way more lenses to choose from at the moment, but Canon is slowly catching with lens options...

I'm in dilemma whether to buy a prime lense rf24mm or rf35mm mainly for videography purpose as the kit lens doesn't provide high aperture size. Moreover this camera R50 is an apsc which means that it has 1.6x crop factor. I'm new in videography and maybe you can advise me which lens should I buy for my first prime lens. Thanks and appreciate if you could help.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly the current problem with the Canon RF-S lens line is there are no wide angle options. The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM Lens: geni.us/fYVnltt is currently your widest and most affordable option with auto focus at this time...

    • @jasonpeishan
      @jasonpeishan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jason Hermann thanks for the reply. Yeah I know there is not a lot of selection for RF lens. But I do some photography shoot occasionally. So I am looking for a flexible versatile lens. 16mm is a bit too wide for taking portrait photos right. Coz I see a lot of reviewer saying that 35mm is the human eye lens. So considering the crop factor I am thinking thay 24mm lens (ff 35mm) should be the best. However, if I buy 35mm lens(ff 55mm) will be a bit too close for videography/vlog

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well typically vlogging often means hand holding the camera while talking to it. For that you will need the 16mm. If your using a tripod and have room to step back a bit then yeah the 24mm or 35mm would be a better option for way less distortion and better background blur if desired. I would go with the 24mm over the 35mm for crop factor camera because it gives you more flexibility.

    Sir, I am planning to create documentary-style videos that include content about foods, traditional secrets, and interviews with people. Additionally, I need to capture high-quality photos. Given that I am not a beginner and have used the Nikon D5600 DSLR for the past four years, could you please suggest a camera that would be suitable for these purposes? Sir please give reply.
    Sir, before watching this video, my preference was the Sony a6100Y. Is that a good choice for the features I mentioned? Could you provide a corrected or better version of this?

      @@Jason_Hermann Thanks Jason! Really look forward to it! I am also personally quite interested in knowing your views on R8 vs A7C comparison

      @Jason_Hermann  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends if the R8 overheats or not.... I plan on getting the R8 next after this R50 unless the A7R5 or ZV-E1 becomes available...

    I have this camera kit comes with the smaller lens. However, the message keeps coming up on the monitor which states that that lens is not compatible with the cameras firmware. As a result, I cannot take photographs just videos. Is anyone else experiencing this?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No button, You need to twist the lens to open and close, it takes a bit more effort than you might think...

      You put the lens on the camera and point and shoot? Do you have an RF 50mm f/1.8 lens?

    How do you switch the rear camera to front camera so you can watch yourself on the screen.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is no rear camera, the screen rotates so you can see the screen while in front of the camera or when behind the camera. There is only one lens/ camera... Not like a smart phone in that way if that is what you are thinking?

      No reason to panic, but the M line is no longer supported, so if you want more lens options I would not buy the M50 these days is all... Still a great camera though for sure as you pointed out...

    Is the 4k video good enough? Or is it bad?
