The M50 is beginner friendly. I've been shooting for years but I didn't want to lug around my DSLR rig for on the go daily driven random photography. Picked up the M50 Mark II and I was really impressed with the little guy.
In my opinion, the M50 is the way to go for beginners. If you are a beginner and dont know if you will continue and upgrade, get a discounted M50 for about $450 and buy EF lenses and use a speedbooster or adapter. If you know you will shoot seriously for the foreseeable future, either start with the R50 or save up and invest in a higher end R line camera or Sony. The way I see these cameras is as a very advanced mirrorsless line of the Rebels. Not really good enough for high end professionals, but commonly too expensive for beginners.
ive seen the r50 in person, its actually far more beginner friendly, the m50 id say is more of a if-you-can-do-without-autofocus, because it has virtually no autofocus at 4k and the m50 ultimately was made to be used without autofocus, the m50 is very purpose built, its obvious it was geared torward beginners but also that it has quite good cinematic quality too if you can do manual focus which most beginners cant do.
Wouldn't the better thing to do would be to get the r50 for future upgrading, or if it's not for you, there's a better resale value? Can you also buy an adapter to use other lenses on the r series as well?
After watching all the comparison videos i bought the m50 mk2 for 600 with canon bag included through canons website. After learning of the r50's shortcomings versus the R8 if and when i get into the RF mount cameras it will be Full frame with more features than the R50. I got the m50 to compliment my pentax k70 and the autofucus on the m50 smashes the pentax to bits. The extra 200 went into another lense or the cage /rig accessories
You forgot to mention that the EF-M has been discontinued and virtually has no upgrade path, if you invest on an R50 and RF lenses you have PLENTY to upgrade to, like the R5 or even the Eos R RP.

I have been shooting real estate with the M50 and Laowa 9mm f/2.8 for over a year now. The Laowa is a powerhouse of a lens shooting real estate. It's 13.5mm full frame equivalent, and the 4k is actually usable, although I rarely have clients requesting it. But still nice to know the 4k is there when I need it. However, it's obviously inferior to the R50 and Laowa has the 9mm f/2.8 available in the RF mount. This will be a tremendous upgrade. What the heck do you mean by saying the M mount has a wider variety of lenses?!?!? Are you on bad drugs?!? The M mount is an orphan with only 6 (or 8?) native lens from Canon, there are over 30 now for the RF mount. The M mount bodies are the absolute worst choice anyone could make today even for a used body! Yes, you can use EF/EF-S glass on the M50, but those same lenses can also be used on the R50. Five years ago the M50 was a good choice, but that was before we found out that Canon has abandoned the M mount. It is completely idiotic to buy an M mount camera today if you want to go mirrorless. I can't believe that you would tell anyone to do that today.
the m6mk2 is the only real decent m mount camera. 4k30 uncropped with dpaf, with 32mp, paired with sigma f1.4 lenses, its really the only M mount camera id buy

R50 does not support 3rd party lenses AND Flashes. you end up paying a fortune if you want fast lenses. Both of Them can use seamesly EF and EF-S DSLR lenses with the correct adapter.
the black rf stm lenses are all only a few hundered. but i agree i wish it has third part y support
@@TechThroughTheLens I understand many prefer prime lenses, but it's a shame the lack of constant aperture apsc zoom lenses for the RF mount. That Said RF 35 F1.8 would be my prime option.
I have had the M50 for 4 years only used it 4 times so honestly don't know 😅
Looks like u don't need it much.. Wanna send it over?.. 😉😊
@@reflexsoundzwas about to say the same thing 😭😫
The Canon M50 has the same sensor, better construction and less expensive but better optics
un true. It has worse optics and its only slightly cheaper but misses alot of features in both photo video and autofocus. youre saving 100 dolars for a way worse camera
@@TechThroughTheLensI don't agree, I used the r50 in a shop and compared to my m6 mk2 it seems all plastic with my m6 mk2 I have the 11-22 efm and the 55 200 efm find me two similar lenses with a similar price. For now I don't see small, light and valid lenses in the r series
If anyone wants to buy a perfect like new condition

I really wonder
nice man
What about the r50 battery ? The one on m50 sucks
It’s a better than the M50, but only by a little bit
I got the R50 with kit lens for $604 including taxes.
At the time he shot the video there were like 2 okay-ish RF-S lenses for the R50 and 8 very very nice EF-M lenses fitting the M50 mk2. I think these camera's are bought for AND WITH these kind of lenses and mostly NOT for the $3000 EF/RF glass out there, so your whole reasoning is moot at best. Comming from a guy who is definitely going to hit an R50 at black friday.
@@KevinNordstrom until you realize almost every crop sensor lenses from canon will underperform with such resolution. Just look at videos from Cristopher Frost testing them.
I found Canon Design is always the same BORING, Blank and TOO Conservative Nothing change ever since DSLR era. I Owned 30D and 5DMKII back then before switching... I have to admit I like Canon Color Science and skin tone. But They should make Retro style if they want to compete with Fujifilm, Nikon Zf.
Please compare Canon r50 vs Sony zv e10
the r50 is better. but i have a video on my channel comparing them.
R50 all day!
Agreed but its $200 extra, might be not a problem when one doesnt have loads of M lenses!
Superb
You sold another R50 :D Thanks
R50 is going to sell the way M50 did.
In my country R50 is so expensive you can think directly to the upper range.
800 - 600 = 200, not 100. Its 200 dollars more.
theu did another price drop . my info was slightly off . I apologize
The viewfinders resolution is the same as well as the magnification last time i checked like .. everywhere. They don't have the same sensor. The sensor in the R50 is the same as the one in the R10 and that is techically spoken a new sensor compared to M50 mk2 etc, but probably very comparable, this all is just peanuts .. . The big difference however is the Digic X and its auto modes / speed and 4K performance. I do not own other Canon M gear so for me and IMHO anyway, it is a TOTAL NO-BRAINER to go for the R50.
M50 ALL THE WAY
hey man , your audio gain is low.... a video with bad audio never gives a good experience. just compare the volume with any other good video
I wasted my money on m2 and lenses…smh
M50 win without even war
Win at what?
@@todanrg3 price (200$ cheaper)
@@lucabastianello9830 That won't make it better, only cheaper. The M50 can't even do proper 4K.
@@todanrg3 neither the R50 with all that handshaking stabilizer
True, R50 4k garbage

None. Dont waste money on any of these and thank me later.
Hey TTTL.... Do I get a prize if I comment on your spelling mistake @4:12 ?????? Olivia Newton-John would be so upset :( . (How about donating the R50 and changing my life :) ! )
