I plan to do a First Impression/First wash video here in a week or two when life slows down and the temp gets above 40F. I really only have a couple minor gripes.... The USB outlets on the center console are hard to access for anyone with hands larger than a child's. My rear hatch seems to be a bit temperamental.. sometimes it closes easily, other times I've got to use a bit more force. Apple Carplay was a bit glitchy at first but in talking to my salesman, it sounds like it might be a phone issue and not a car issue, saying there is an update coming soon that should fix it. (It could also be user error... I'm really not that bright.) I'll tag you when I get the video posted. (Otherwise... super comfortable, great through some big Wyoming snow drifts, great fuel efficiency, easy in & out, Great stereo (I upgraded to the dealer installed Rockford Fosgate). The 2.5 liter Boxer is actually pretty peppy, and I've had no problems making highway speeds and passing at high speeds. (The Interstate Speed Limit in Wyoming is 80 in most places... no problems at all.) Overall, very happy.

    • @meebs99
      @meebs99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly it's probably because when the STi first came out in the US, it was 30K, and the WRX was what... around 23 to 25?. Of course things get more expensive with time (16 years now) but the car hasn't changed at all when it comes to the drivetrain. I mean, this car, and let's be real, basically a lifted Impreza 5 door, for 31 grand. That's what we paid 4 years ago for our Forester XT. The interior is a lot better, but as TheTopher said, shows it's econobox roots (and that's fine) but is it literally 12 thousand dollars better than the equivalent from 15 years ago? It's not just Subaru either, all new cars are getting almost too expensive for your average income. And then "sports" or even "sporty" cars are nearly unreachable. I think Road & Track had a pretty good write up on this recently.

      I thought it was just because younger kids today aren't using manual transmissions much anymore, but another big reason behind it is apparently because of fuel economy requirements put on manufacturers. • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Toyota has produced a CVT that doesn't suck. Its a hybrid CVT that has a traditional automatic 1st gear for launching, which is where the CVTs struggle the hardest. CVTs do fine from 30mph, people just think they suck so bad because from a stop sign they are lethargic as the CVT can't get the gearing low enough.

    • @carlmanu
      @carlmanu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Unfortunately, CVTs are cheaper to make, more fuel efficient, weight less and have smoother operations (as long as you’re not winding them) than any torque converter automatic.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@carlmanu Yeah, which is fine as long as its a pure economy vehicle. Their low torque handling ability and disconnected rubber band feeling means you can never really tell what exactly is going on with the vehicle. And while you are right that CVTs are cheaper to make, they aren't cheaper to maintain. They typically have more frequent service intervals and lower average lifespans, especially Nissan CVTs. Most enthusiasts would be happier with a DCT if it has to be automatic, and they are also very lightweight. Only problem DCTs have is they aren't good in heavy stop and go traffic, where a torque converter is better.

    • @doctorrobert60
      @doctorrobert60 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Sure the car might sound a certain way but record it with a different mic, it'll sound different. Upload it to TH-cam, it gets compressed a bit. Listen on a phone speaker and it'll sound different. Listen on a pair of hi-fi speakers, it'll sound different. Listen with a pair of closed-back headphones, it'll sound different.

      It's great! You can sit all the way back and bring the steering wheel towards you, especially if you have t-rex arms

      I'm 6'2 and I have no complaints about the leg room in a 2019 Crosstrek. Same body style so I'd assume it's fine in the 2021 as well

      From a driver's perspective, you have lots of leg room.

    The rims make my stomach turn.

      I agree, I would prefer the sport models rims and tires instead(but on the limited model)

      Yeah, Suby is really into the sawblade look this year. See the Legacy XT (shudder).

    Absolutely terrible alloys. Plus NEVER put the paddle down 100% as it is not going to give you nothing else but the noise! Do max 40-60% and you will see the big difference!

    I've been looking at Subaru Crosstreks recently they have been a favorite among the storm chasing community

    I loved my 2016 CrossTrek Premium, except the 2.0 boxer, of course. I have a 2019 Outback Touring 3.6R now, and I'd be hard pressed to let it go for a 2.5L CrossTrek. Id have to go up to a loaded Ascent from where I am.

    I've never looked at a Subaru before, and I'm disappointed. Big engine and only 182hp? I'd prefer an electric car.

      Subarus are more about all-around practicality than raw power, unless you want a WRX or less so with a BRZ.
