I bought my Crosstrek in August of 2014. Nearly 5 years later, and barely over 100K miles, I still love mine. Still runs amazing. My biggest complaint is the lack of power. That's about it.
@@johnbanket7000 Nah this vehicle and yours needed more power. I was going to get a Crosstrek but bought the Outback 3.6R instead, the 250hp/250ft-lb torque make a massive difference.
@John Banket you've been fooled like so many who think the manual version is faster. The 0-60 & 1/4 mile times/speed are no different than the 2.0 CVT auto ..... research it if you're having doubts.
These cars are a tremendous value. They are all over the place here in Denver. Could use about 200hp (150 is barely adequate) but other than that it's a nifty little car. I've taken my Jeep up some terrible roads and you never fail to see a Crosstrek at the end of them.
What many people don't realize is the Crosstrek can actually go some places that larger, more powerful and especially heavier full time 4WD vehicles struggle with. Subaru's excellent AWD system combined with low weight means it isn't as likely to get bogged down in mud as long as the ground clearance isn't holding it back. Of course the lack of power could become an issue if it does get stuck, but a winch could pretty easily handle that part. (Assuming there is something to attach the winch to)
2021 Crosstrek Sport is going to have 182hp. Which is a huge plus, but only offered as a CVT without a manual option. Other than that, I’d love to get one myself
My brother-in-law, a native of Boulder, Colo., is a VERY active back country/mountain trails, roads and highway driver. Skied all his life, tent camped, hiked, nature photographer. He just retired his 21yr old Jeep, did a ton of research, and bought a new Subaru Crosstrek. I visited them in the beginning of June, and for a lot of everyone's entertainment, they took me tons of major mountain driving. NICE CAR! The three of us and my walker fit and got along well. I'm 71 and they are 70 (He recently retired after playing 34yrs with the Denver Symphony) and my sister was the harp faculty at the University of Denver and first-call union harpist. They're still skiing etc. As a passenger, I thought the Subaru felt very stable, comfortable and secure. He got the automatic version.
Thank you for your comment! I am also a classical musician (violinist) by profession and love the outdoors as much as music. I have been debating between the Crosstrek and a couple of other cars to suit both my gigging and adventures.
I've got 32k miles on my 2018 Crosstrek. I went on a 2 month camping trip where I hit about 40 states and I basically lived out of my Crosstrek for that whole time. I've driven on and off road quite a lot on it and love it. I agree with everything you've said about this car especially that damn sound bug with the infotainment system.
I got a 2019 Crosstrek premium with 15” MR502s and 215/75R15 KO2s on stock height. I love it. No rub. I go everywhere. Looking into a lift, lightbar, engine and trans plates, and Raceseng tow hooks.
It looks like it narrows slightly at the bottom so the lift (you don't have) may actually contribute to rubbing. For winter I'm running 215/70R16 on +48 rims which are technically +0.7% larger diameter, and I have no rubbing on my RA mudflaps.
The KO2 in a 215 on a 15” wheel is almost identical in overall diameter to the stock setup. It is a marginally narrower tire, but nothing you’d likely notice. If anything it might help a little with the mud. The 235 is just a little too wide and too tall which creates the rubbing issue.
Thank you for the horsepower comment. I watched review after review where they talked about them being gutless. My crosstrek gets up and goes great. Never felt it was underpowered.
Yeah, I found your channel looking for lifted crosstrek stuff. Wife has a new Outback, you have me wanting a lifted crosstrek bad. Especially since she banned me from buying any more clunker 97 grand cherokees. Stayed for the gun stuff content. Good channel.
I just got one. Omg, it's so great. I had to trade in my Chevy equinox sport LTD to get it. Safety is superb, the interior is also not bad at all. So far, I don't have any regrets
I installed a pedalbox for my 18 Crosstrek, and it really makes a difference! I know it doesn't do anything horsepower wise, but it just gives you that extra oomph for acceleration. You should check it out if you've never considered it.
I found you video back in April when researching the Crosstrek and loved your setup. Went to the dealership and found an 18' with 1500 miles and they sold it to me for under 22k. I have put about 30k miles on it in 8 months. Heres my review THE THING IS MADE TO BE DRIVEN. I LOVE it. 10k of the miles driven I was even towing a 6-700lbs trailer up and down mountain passes. The paddle shifters worked great, still haven't needed new brakes, and the CVT has gotten smoother over time. I love it. Still haven't had the $$$ to upgrade the setup but the car still looks sooo good stock. (mines grey too)
Well done Talon, A great review, honest and comprehensive! You must have spent a lot of time planning your report because, although quite long, it covers a lot of interesting points. I have a 2018 2.0iS with a CVT (the only transmission-type offered by Subaru in Australia) and I have travelled over 45k in the last 14 months. It's the third Subaru I have owned and it's one of the best vehicles I've owned and driven in 44 years. Thanks for the interesting report! Cheers from Down Under, here in Australia! Martin
Bought my Crosstrex last month and I LOVE IT!! I drive it everywhere, and I'm not sure I've even been in my partner's car since and she has a really cool mini. But anyways, I do love my car. We did a lot of research before buying, all in the Subaru family, and I decided on the Crosstrex, and I don't regret anything. Since we live up in the mountains of NC, we have a lot of friends that own them. They also love their choice of car. Thanks for your review and I hope it helps many more people to fall in love with this car.
Yes this was a long video but I thought it was great. It was one of the better reviews that I have seen on-line. Most of the so called ''experts'' don't post videos as interesting as this. Well done Talon.
I am very happy with my Crosstrek as well. I do wish they came with a low range like my conventional Dodge Dakota four wheel drive. Right now I am getting about 30 M.P.G. with the six speed and almost all highway driving.
Have had mine for a year, bought it new. One trip from Tennessee to Alaska and back, two trips to California and back. Car very appropriate to intended use. Completely reliable, great to have AWD and higher ground clearance, reasonable MPG, low sound levels (even on poor Alaska backroads for ten weeks), good comfort. Wish it came with water temp gauge (but can always have one installed). Really, really happy with the car.
Just want to say, your content has been very helpful in picking out my own vehicle. Think I'm still going with the outback, but your content has helped a lot with getting a feel for the Crosstreck!
First time viewer here. What I especially liked about the way you presented your video is how you seem to actually try to enunciate your words as clearly as possible. This, in comparison to another 'Subaru' video I just watched where the guy talked so fast there were actually times I couldn't understand what he was saying even after rewinding 2 and 3 times. Thanks for your information. I am giving serious thought to buying another Subaru in the next year and selling my Baja with which I have had very good luck for the past 15 years in terms of reliability and such few actual repairs.
I have one of these it is great for carrying my bikes and my longbow. There are a few nitpicks I have however: 1- the touch screen. Touch screens suck. Should have regular controls so you can memorize button positions and not have to look away from road to change station. 2 - thick windshield pillars create blind spots on winding mountain roads or around sharp turns. You have to crane your neck to look past them. Yes I know they contain airbags which is nice but it would be better if they out them somewhere they do not create blindspots. 3- The clutch is very sensitive and easily damaged. However, on the plus side, you can still GET one with a manual transmission, unlike other brands. 4 - You have to jury rig disabling the passenger seatbelt warning because every time you put a backpack or bag of groceries there it beeps like a maniac. It is as if the engineers were so shortsighted they did not consider that there could be any other reason for weight on the seat besides for a human arse, nor did they provide an easy switch to disable it. In general, however, this is a pretty good vehicle.
I have a 2018 Crosstrek with a CVT and road-tripping to Montreal and to Florida from Pennsylvania, using the cruise control at 70ish MPH during light traffic I averaged about 550-560 miles per tank, which is around 33 miles per gallon. At times the range showed as many as 580-590 miles per tank. In city stop and go traffic, I am averaging around 28-29.
I have the older model Crosstrek and was surprised you didn't mention the interior noise and quality of the audio system. Maybe they made improvements on both of those for the newer model but it was difficult to hold a conversation with someone in the rear at highway speeds and the speakers are really bad honestly. I tore my car apart to add dynamat style panels to the shell and then added regular jute padding before putting the panels back on. Helped to reduce noise considerably and wasn't too expensive of a project. Also swapped out the speaker system with OEM upgrades minus the subwoofer, it's better but not great really. I should mention I have stock wheels and roof rack so I wasn't getting higher noise levels from any changes in those. Apart from that I really love the car and am glad I purchased it.
This week I went in to the Subaru dealer here in Reno NV. The guy I got was a total jerk. Right off I expressed my concern about the power. He replied “people who buy Subaru don’t buy them for speed”. As if power only effects top speed. Like I looked like I was trying to race. To be honest because of that one guy I been looking at other cars. But glad to hear your realistic experience.
JW Sykes dude the Reno guys suck. I got mine in Sacramento (Maita Subaru) and had a pretty good experience. Also bought through the Costco program so I got a pretty good deal.
I have a 2014 crosstrek and it fits me and my family really well. we have gone to the drive in before and put a full size futon mattress on the back with the seats down, it curled up on the sides but it was really comfortable. The crosstrek line has had some upgrades since then but over the past 4.5yrs we've had the car there has been little to no complaints or issues. Since its the "family car" and my wife's daily driver, the crosstrek is still stock but we have not had any issues with performance either. Like you, we knew what we were getting into and it fit us perfectly for what we needed.
First time watching your work .... and I'm impressed. Excellent camera work, no foul language and an easy conversational style of presentation without any pregnant pauses and "ummmm's and ahhhh's" that drive one crazy. Well done review! Subies are terrific. I must be a fan as I'm presently on my 5th OutBack since 1997. Keep up the great work!!
"It's a Subaru, so the mud kinda looks cool on it I guess" GOLDEN!!! Subarus just give you that vibe!!! I handled my 08 legacy (have it for 8 years now and just got the XV two weeks ago, hence why I am here watching this vid) like a truck!! owned a tundra before, which I hardly washed and couldn't tell the difference in confidence when going through the worst roads (I live in Jamaica, when roads are bad, they're bad) and hills with my Legacy. Anyway enough talking, that line just resonated with me lolol. #ForeverSubi
I'm 15, but looking at first cars and I think I have found my favourite competitor at the moment. I know it's a bit expensive, but for where I live outside of Nashville, it's perfection. I'd prefer a manual over automatic, though. Great review man
OMG! I understand that's a good car, don't want to mess up the road, etc... but it's all wheel drive; And lifted!!! Take the corners like a Mad Man!!! Give it some juice... That's why you made it! Sling some mud, just for the video... Then, drive it like there's a baby on board.
1 year now on my 2018 fully-loaded XV ... great car, very happy with it. The headunit has frozen once, but otherwise it's ok -- streaming music and using the GPS makes it slower for sure. Car itself is smooth, accelerates just fine for me, no issues at all. Bad snow fall this year in the mountains, and can't get it stuck at all (where other AWDs have had to dig out). X-Mode rocks. :-) I'm getting 28-30mpg with the CVT. I came from a 2006 H6 Outback, miss the room and power, but love the new tech. I guess maybe next time I'll get new Outback or Levorg if I need more room, but no regrets. Enjoy.
I live in a town in the foothills of Alberta Canada, and I can say between driving into the mountains and driving into the city, my 2014 Crosstrek is the best vehicle I've ever owned (I purchased brand new). Bar none. I really like your Hella lights because they look dope. My area is super rural so we drive vast distances in darkness, and I think they'd also be functional if I got them. About your mud flaps. Get new ones. Man, that noise would drive me nuts. I don't have A/T tires but I think I might do that for my next purchase. I'd keep stock sizing though because I don't want to lose the precise odometer and speedometer ratings. Mine is also a manual transmission, which, due to the really crappy horsepower, helps hugely. I highly recommend a MT Crosstrek to anybody. I use 8 litres per 100 kms, which is a little aggressive. In the summer, drops to 7.2 L per 100 kms. It's a good car on mileage despite it being worse than the CVT. But I think I want a Turbo Kit. Shit dude, we should get turbo kits. Note that at 100,000 miles/160,000 kms, my front CV joints went. (I drive a lot) Power distribution is 65/35 rear/front. Performance type distribution. Best AWD anybody will ever get.
Just got a white 2019 Crosstrek for my wife yesterday and started doing some research last night to see what I could do to the car. I showed the wife a few of the mods like the debadge and the tow hooks you did and she's all about it. Overall, you have a clean beautiful car there.
Talon just wanted to say it seems like just yesterday I was saying congratulations on 300 videos and you're already closing in on 350. I love seeing your videos come out! Thank you for everything you do!
I’m 16 and got a 2013 subaru crosstrek as my first car. so far, i’m absolutely loving it. the equaliser in it allows me to tune my music to the cars speakers. i added a aFe filter to it and the acceleration difference is insane. i get great MPG with heavy traffic each morning and the CVT has adapted to my daily route so it is smooth as can be.
I have experienced buggy audio issues on my 2019 Outback. Sometimes the music gets stuck coming out of only one speaker, like the map voice does. Powering off the entertainment system and back on seems to fix it. Other than that, love the Outback!
got 2019 crosstrek, mpg high way is normally 35-40 mpg, seen averages of 37 38 and 39 for highway trips. (also looking at mpg gauge influences how i press the gas pedal indirectly)Granted I accelerate like a grandma , and cruise around 70-75 mpg . City i get 26-29 mpg.
I get in the upper thirties and even lower 40s in mpgs on the highway with my 2016 Crosstrek simply by using my Eyesight on cruise control at 65-70 mph. I've been driving the car for almost three years now back and forth up and down the northern half of Rt 495 outside of Boston. Very consistent results as long as it's not too windy and such, though I get better mpgs driving south on the northern half of Rt 495.
I have a 2019 Crosstrek and I often get 38 - 39 mpg on the mountain road highways and 34-36 on city/highway driving. One of the things I love about this car, I've gone 500 miles on a tank of gas and it cost less than $30 to refill the tank, at $2 a gallon. Also, the gas tank is on the right side of the car, the passenger side, so I often just buzz right to the tanks at crowded gas stations because most cars seem to have gas tanks on the driver side. The downside of Subaru is that because I love to drive them, I put lots of miles on them really fast. My Forester had 100K at just three years old.
1st off, thank you for buying Subaru. I build them for a living (not crosstreks tho) and always love seeing ppl happy with their vehicle. 2nd, yeah i want subaru to amp up hp as well. I think the big issue is that with AWD adding hp will come at the cost of mpg and really all subarus have meh mpg for their size and hp.
A fellow Crosstrek owner and outdoor adventurer. I dig the mods you have done. I had the cloth seats on a previous Crosstrek. Now I have the limited. The limited seats are actually vinyl, not leather. A rag and your choice of cleaner will take care of anything that you track in on the vinyl. The cloth seats being more porous can be difficult to clean. When it comes to strength, they both have there limitations.
If you want to use the light bar more often, get the grill covers for the hella 500 series. I did this for mine and have noticed I'm using them much more often. They protect the lights and more importantly you can use the lights with these covers on since they're open. No more having to put on and take off covers every time. Great video!
I have a 2013 Crosstrek with 130,000 on it and I love it!!! Purchased the base model and haven’t done any upgrades cause frankly, I can’t afford it. Would like to invest in a lift kit and purchase those tires. Great video and very informative.
I bought a 2019 Premium 6spd when it dropped. Did the whole lift and wheels kit. Had skids and all kinds of other things. Got rid of it about 4 months ago and went with a 3.6 Outback instead which feels far superior. 1. Speed: The Crosstrek is super underpowered. I get the whole economy car argument because I did buy it to save of gas. But that thing super struggled up hills. I live in the Tahoe region and getting around in the Crosstrek was stressful. The 3.6 is actually pretty fun to drive. 2. Space: The Crosstrek was small. I’m 6’2 about 210 pounds and felt super cramped in the car all of the damn time. I’ll never tell you the story about the time that I tried sleeping in the back of it. It’s a great car but at a huge cost. Sadly those cons were a huge breaking point for me. Hopefully the new updated engines have some more power.
We LOVE our 2022 Outback Wilderness… we look forward to getting the Crosstrek Wilderness in spring 2023!💪🏼😎 We have a Jeep JL 392 and we have taken our OBW on the exact same trails and it never spun a tire! Capable, nimble, practical and comfortable AF!
We have an Outback....and just bought a Crosstrek....my wife absolutely loves it. It is a very nibble machine on the back roads! You did some really nixe camera work on rhe trail scenes ! We have a second farm with an off-grid cabin that is off the beaten path. We can't wait to take it over there.
I still have my 1st gen crosstrek. I have a 2018 outback too. Still like the crosstrek better for my 1 hour each way commute. Nothing beats the outback when exploring the mountains though.
Mike DeRosier I have the same crosstrek and with the seats folded down, it’s more than enough space for several dogs. Especially nice with the all weather mats on the back of the rear seats. Only issue is if you have more than 2 people + dogs and can’t fold the seats down, it gets tight. My lab rides in the back 2-3 times a week for the past year and loves the space even when I have gear
Just bought the new Subaru Ascent SUV.....cant say enough great things about it. With a wife, three kids and a dog we needed an suv and am glad Subaru finally addressed the market with the Ascent. It’s amazing.
I just bought this exact year and model in the Sunshine Orange color and I love it. I live in rural Idaho, and I have to commute 45 miles to work, so I needed good gas mileage as well as something Idaho-worthy. I love it.
Just done 4300 miles on my 2018 XV, which is what they call a crosstrek here in the UK, I haven't made any serious changes other than fitting a tow bar and a spare wheel. Not keen on pumping foam into tyres. The car has been trouble free and economical to run. Glad I bought it. At some point I would consider AT tyres but may be a problem as car came standard with 18 inch rims.
I'm looking at the 2023 Crosstrek sport, I kayak bass fish and I've beaten up my chrysler 200 from driving up and down the dirt boat ramps and that has ruined my suspension. This car seems perfect for the pacific northwest, the rain and snow we get.
Great video! I like to see other owners onsite on the car. My complaints are the HU is slow at times After 2 FW updates most bugs have been worked out. Engine is a little loud on the highway with the 6MT, and the spacing between 5th and 6th gear seems too small, actually 4-6 don't seem as fluid as gears 1-3. CVT definitely makes more sense for taking it off road, plus you have the hill assistance feature. It's not perfect, but a great little car. Best of luck with yours!
Love my 2018 Crosstrek!! I did go with the Limited but only because I wanted Orange with the Moon Roof and Eyesight and that was the only one they had at the dealership with all that. I won't complain, love the damn thing., I have similar complaints as you with the front vent and the radio. I get typically 28-32 mpg with mine on the highway, mine is still completely stock though. Great review, nice to see someone else enjoying this car ;)
1 year here for me too. I have the same setup except I have the Primitive Racing lift. I take my Crosstrek up to Mt. Hood snowboarding about three times a week. It does a great job plowing through the snow. I do wish it had more power but that is what my Evo is for. Keep up the great work on the channel.
Have a 2017 xv (Uk) 2.0 diesel 6 speed manual, not sure if you guys in the US have the option of the diesel, no underpowered problems, loads of torque and 50mpg 👍🏻👍🏻
Ive had my 2014 turbo diesel for 4 years. Even with almost double the torque of the gas model it still feels under powered and with a 6 speed manual you never stop shifting because the shit stalls if you find yourself in the wrong gear. The worst part of all id that the center console is too big and crowds the gas pedal. This causes me to have to hold my foot a a weird angle which causes me a lot of back pain. Aside from that, its been a really good and reliable car. Also, the bluetooth is a complete piece of shit and if you drive a short distance , stop for gas, and start it up again, you'll spend 30 mins trying to get it to connect again.
Dumb question, but in the USA, is the gas pedal on the left or right? I mean since you sit on the left? Ours is on the right which makes sense because driver's side is the right side in Australia, I am thinking the clutch needs to be closer to the gearbox but I may be wrong...
@@michaelperkins399 I'm from Canada where vehicles r the same as US, while we sit on the left the pedals r in the same position, clutch left, brake middle, gas right. The only real difference the is the shifter. Because it is in the middle, we shift with our right instead.
I'm not sure where exactly you are, but my sister lives deep in the NC mountains and when I first went to visit her in my 2001 Acura CL I was presented with a creek type situation like the one you drove through in this video. I don't know what my GPS was thinking, but fortunately a local woman saw me and gave me directions, telling me I'd never make it through in my car. Fortunately I have a Crosstreck now so if I'm ever in that situation again I'll be much better prepared and more confident!
You know, I’ve had my Crosstrek for about 6 weeks now (all Stock) no mods yet, and I thought about what you said about the computer figuring out your driving habits. I really took notice how it adjusted to how I drive and it’s AWESOME! I love it! I am getting about 33 MPG average and really like how it picks up when I need to pass vehicles on the hwy. If I had one thing to complain about, it’s the lack of a passing button on the shifter. I have to switch to the sport shift then down shift on the shift paddles which I’ve gotten used to but it’s a little annoying at first. Other than that I like how it handles off road, I got through some pretty deep mud which I have gotten stuck in before with my Chevy 1500 truck. I got through it without issues, it was incredible to experience. I also took it to the beach a couple times. Got through some loose deep sand as well. I mean I am not planning on rock crawling or anything so I am not worried about getting stuck, but it’s nice to know that I can get out of most practical situations with the way it’s currently set up.
Yo! This video is great, I’ve been looking into a forester, and had some of the same concerns about that as many people have about the Crosstrek (power mainly). Good to know it doesn’t hold the vehicle back with regards to being a daily driver. Thanks! P.S. That jacket is dope! Any chance you’d be willing to give me a nudge in the right direction? 😉
1984 Chevrolet Corvette Specs This was a sports car, we forget where we used to be regarding horsepower Horsepower: 205 HP @ 4,300 RPM Torque: 290 lb-ft @ 2,800 rpm
Well to be fair, the cross trek only has like 152 hp. There’s lots of cvts and/or cars with worse power to weight ratios, that are far faster. It’s just too little engine. Thankfully the 2021 addresses it in higher trim levels.
I think for most people CVTs are new to them. I think however they are a great invention. Think about it this way with a CVT you are getting the most efficient way of distributing power. CVT's save money and that is cool.
Regarding complaints about speed: I have a 2008 Outback Sport (non turbo impreza wagon), a similar engine as the crosstrek. It's just under 200hp with 200 ft lbs of torque. It's plenty fast. It's not that naturally aspirated single cam engine is slow, it's just that it isn't turbo charged. Subaru isn't competing w Porsche for your money, they're competing with Honda and Mazda. You'll find a naturally aspirated base Subaru is quicker than any factory Honda sans the Civic Si, which would be competitive with the WRX/STi. I haven't driven a Crosstrek, I thinks it a little slower than my Impreza, but its not a sports car. You have AWD and over 150 hp, that's a good start above the competition.
When you want a I upgrade your outback with manual transmission but they don’t make them anymore and the only way to get certified used newer year car with lower miles in manual that’s as close to an outback is the crosstrek. They don’t make foresters is manual anymore either.
Fantastic 1 year update. I'm impressed with this vehicle. You covered things I hadn't even realized I was interested in regarding this little gem of a car. Curious if you've towed anything with this car? With the 1500 lb. tow rating it seems like a lot of weight for this car but apparently it can handle it. The sport version is appealing with the added power but not being offered in a manual transmission is both weird and unfortunate. Thanks for the deep dive and food for thought about both the vehicle and your thoughts thus far driving it.
Love your review. Good, bad and expected. I have a 2013 manual, and I was wondering if I can install a 6th gear. The manual hits about 3200 revs at 70 mph. The engine complains alot. Great beard bud.
i found this ridiculously helpful, im eyeing this for my first car or a similar stick shift Subaru and who knew one of my favorite gun channels of all things had a review on the car i was looking at, lol!
I bought my Crosstrek in August of 2014. Nearly 5 years later, and barely over 100K miles, I still love mine. Still runs amazing. My biggest complaint is the lack of power. That's about it.
What about oil issues and which year was it?
@@iamironman616 I bet it has a cvt. That zaps the power. I have a 2013 with the 2.0 and a 5 speed manual. It has plenty of zip.
@@johnbanket7000 Nah this vehicle and yours needed more power. I was going to get a Crosstrek but bought the Outback 3.6R instead, the 250hp/250ft-lb torque make a massive difference.
Lack of power is perspective... ive driven heavier things with smaller engine daily so for me is actually much better.
Lack of HP has me on the fence.
(Assuming there is something to attach the winch to)
I've watched this video like 5 times still planning for my crosstrek lol
Same...
2021 Crosstrek Sport is going to have 182hp. Which is a huge plus, but only offered as a CVT without a manual option. Other than that, I’d love to get one myself
That makes two of us,love from Kenya🇰🇪
Lol that's what I'm doing right now. Take delivery in a week.
Doing same
I know this video is 2 years old, but it convinced me to go with the crosstrek! Same trim level as well.
How has it been so far? Still like it? Any issues?
My brother-in-law, a native of Boulder, Colo., is a VERY active back country/mountain trails, roads and highway driver. Skied all his life, tent camped, hiked, nature photographer. Wow! Sounds like you have an incredible family
I had to adjust my volumes on my iPhone to make it work on my Apple CarPlay. No issues so far
Was it just you or anybody else with you.
How's it holding up thus far?
I got a 2019 Crosstrek premium with 15” MR502s and 215/75R15 KO2s on stock height. I love it. No rub. I go everywhere. Looking into a lift, lightbar, engine and trans plates, and Raceseng tow hooks.
It looks like it narrows slightly at the bottom so the lift (you don't have) may actually contribute to rubbing.
For winter I'm running 215/70R16 on +48 rims which are technically +0.7% larger diameter, and I have no rubbing on my RA mudflaps.
thinking about that wheel/tire combo for my 2018. Not really wanting a lift so it's good to know they don't rub.
I have the same year/wheel tire setup. I love it!
The KO2 in a 215 on a 15” wheel is almost identical in overall diameter to the stock setup. It is a marginally narrower tire, but nothing you’d likely notice. If anything it might help a little with the mud. The 235 is just a little too wide and too tall which creates the rubbing issue.
any noticeable hit in gas mileage?
Thank you for the horsepower comment. I watched review after review where they talked about them being gutless. My crosstrek gets up and goes great. Never felt it was underpowered.
No midrange in mine. It throws me I to the seat off the line but guts out at the midrange. Mine is a 2013 limited.
Bought my 18 Crosstrek based heavily on your review and I love it! So thanks!!! Keep up the great content man!!!
How's the transmission?
@@mdumaguit7416 so far, I've not had any problems with the car. The transmission is working normal.
(mines grey too)
Well done Talon,
A great review, honest and comprehensive!

I'm torn between the current XV S and a near-new outback premium. Main concern is storage.
Proud new owner of a 2014 Crosstreck Limited - I've had the car for 3 days and I love it. Bought it used with 47k miles. Subscribed.
Glad you mentioned about sleeping in the back of it.
Marnie T how has it been have you ran into any issues
Yes this was a long video but I thought it was great. It was one of the better reviews that I have seen on-line. Most of the so called ''experts'' don't post videos as interesting as this. Well done Talon.
I appreciate the kind words, Thanks for watching!
@@TalonSei You're welcome.
I am very happy with my Crosstrek as well. I do wish they came with a low range like my conventional Dodge Dakota four wheel drive. Right now I am getting about 30 M.P.G. with the six speed and almost all highway driving.
What's your highway speed and rpm? Thanks.
Really, really happy with the car.
have you had any problems with the car ? looking to replace our Wrangler for some hting with a little better MPG
They are supposed to be reliable. If you have any problems the dealership will give you a loaner, so you will be ok
@@tjj5337the Crosstrek is actually one of the easiest cars to fix repair and maintain
Dude , keep one hand on the wheel at least
had the 2013 xv, traded up for the 2016 crosstrek and then traded up to the 2019 with eyesight , practically drives itself. Love all my Subaru's!
What’s the main differences you’ve noticed from the 16 to the 19?
I drive my 2019 cross trek on the beach with the most default kit so it’s a beast of a car on its own
I have a 2014 crosstrek and it fits me and my family really well. we have gone to the drive in before and put a full size futon mattress on the back with the seats down, it curled up on the sides but it was really comfortable.

Enjoy.
I have had 6 subarus so far. I currently have two 2017 crosstreks. My only complaint is that they need more power. Otherwise great! Love your car!!
(I drive a lot)
Power distribution is 65/35 rear/front. Performance type distribution. Best AWD anybody will ever get.
Yes that exact setup will work on a stock Crosstrek. I have installed them on my 2019 crosstrek
My March 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is 8 1/2 months of driving and has 46,000+ miles on it. And I still love it.
The rubbing is not a complaint as it’s your tyre mod that caused the issue. Love the look of the whole set up, very purposeful.
I usually drive my Forster at 65 and it does increase the gas mileage, to 30 mpg or better.
The android auto update did fix a lot of bugs - still not perfect, but now we get news and less connection issues.

Thanks for posting! My next car will be a Crosstrek!

I wanna get a crosstrek as well. Not sure if I ever will tho. With dogs the suv just makes a bit more sense for me personally
I believe that but I dont wanna lay the seats down for it. I just want them in the trunk

Love it!!!! Can’t wait for mine. Looking to get a pretty similar setup, minus the light bar.
I'm looking at the 2023 Crosstrek sport, I kayak bass fish and I've beaten up my chrysler 200 from driving up and down the dirt boat ramps and that has ruined my suspension. This car seems perfect for the pacific northwest, the rain and snow we get.
There is a company in Australia that makes turbos for the Crosstrek and they ship to the US
how does the CVT respond?
Interesting...who and where?
Mrt performance, I have the standard and it works fine. I'm pushing about 250 horsepower
I priced a turbo from MRT for my XV. $8000 😢 But they have a 1inch lift for under $1000 which is good.
Mike E sick!!

You and your car are literally the reason I’m going to buy a cross trek (Xv in Australia)
Definitely a tough spot for me as I am torn between a Honda HRV or a Crosstrek. Both are great cars!
Reliability is key.
i watched these videos a while back when i wasn’t in the market but now i’m looking at a wrx or a crosstrek...leaning towards a manual crosstrek
Within the next 30 days my Jeep Wrangler TJ will probably be traded for a manual Crosstrek 👍
Have a 2017 xv (Uk) 2.0 diesel 6 speed manual, not sure if you guys in the US have the option of the diesel, no underpowered problems, loads of torque and 50mpg 👍🏻👍🏻
Colin Liggat we in the US do not have most diesel options in cars and crossovers...but in trucks it’s always an option lol
I bought my 2018 Crosstrek in July, That is how i found your channel! Keep up the great work love your channel
You might own a Subaru if you ignore the noises that aren't engine related.
You own a Ford...fuck outta here douche..my 17 crosstrek will retain a value while you'll have a heap of shit in 5 years. 🤣

same...and it makes the insurance premium dirt cheap!!!
1984 Chevrolet Corvette Specs This was a sports car, we forget where we used to be regarding horsepower Horsepower: 205 HP @ 4,300 RPM
Torque: 290 lb-ft @ 2,800 rpm
test drove a few CVT's. Test drove one 6speed manual
the decision was clear as day. That CVT robs so much power its ridiculous
I just purchased crosstrek grey!! Your video makes me to go for outdoor driving so bad! Thanks for the great info.
Holy moly! I remember not to long ago when you only had about 20 thousand or so subs. Good content for sure brother.
Cross trek. When you want a forester, but you don’t want one.
When you want a forester but can’t afford one, you mean?
I owned a 2015 forester for three years. Got a crosstrek. I like the smaller size, looks better, and the manual version is a fun ride
When you want a I upgrade your outback with manual transmission but they don’t make them anymore and the only way to get certified used newer year car with lower miles in manual that’s as close to an outback is the crosstrek. They don’t make foresters is manual anymore either.
@@RetroKingOGhow can you say this, when you have crosstreks that cost more than foresters? Not everyone wants a big car that handles worse…
I bought a 2019 crosstrek in October and already have 6,000 miles on it. I guess I've been playing hard XD
Thank you for saying wheels instead of rims
Fantastic 1 year update. I'm impressed with this vehicle. You covered things I hadn't even realized I was interested in regarding this little gem of a car. Curious if you've towed anything with this car? With the 1500 lb. tow rating it seems like a lot of weight for this car but apparently it can handle it. The sport version is appealing with the added power but not being offered in a manual transmission is both weird and unfortunate. Thanks for the deep dive and food for thought about both the vehicle and your thoughts thus far driving it.
I want to see a solid axle cross trek! Somebody has to have one!
That thing is legit! I have a two day old 2020 Outback Onyx XT...i'm super happy with it so far! Good luck mang!
Love your review. Good, bad and expected. I have a 2013 manual, and I was wondering if I can install a 6th gear. The manual hits about 3200 revs at 70 mph. The engine complains alot. Great beard bud.
Man that thing looks nice. Great job on the lift and wheel/tire combo
I have a 2017 Impreza Hatch, wish I'd held out for the Crosstrek ...
i found this ridiculously helpful, im eyeing this for my first car or a similar stick shift Subaru and who knew one of my favorite gun channels of all things had a review on the car i was looking at, lol!
