    G'day everyone! I am honestly on the fence about the changes that have occured around Angkor Wat. As a tourist who hasn't been here before, It probably makes for a more pleasant and modern experience - however I can see the downside as it feels like the area has lost a bit of old world charm, and knowing the family impacts to the villages/shops that have been moved makes it feel a little sterile and soulless. I don't know - what do you reckon? Thanks for watching!

    G'day Marc & Kinal , hope all is going well , having just recently returned to Siem Reap , after being gone for 4 years , I would be the first to say some things have changed , but I remind myself that in life , things are always in a state of change , sometimes surprisingly good , sometimes not so much , all I have to do is look in the mirror 😜, but the one constant in Cambodia that has not changed , and I pray never does , is the wonderful spirit of the Khmer people , the smiles , laughter , and warm hellos , are all still very present , hope Max is doing well , he's such a happy little fellow 😊, look forward to your next adventure , take care of yourselves , catch you on the next one , Peace

      G'day Biran! Great observation about Siem Reap and Cambodia in general. You would have seen some huge changes with that 4 year gap! The development of the place happens so fast compared to the west. Things will always be moving forward weather we like it or not - but we don't have to like it. Agree the Khmers are always wonderful people, I always enjoy the interactions with them wherever we go! We are all well here mate - hope you are too! Thanks again for watching and for your ever thoughtful comments!
      Cheers!

    Hi, How long ago was this shot. I am eager to see what is different this August. I did love the restaurants there. I loved the atmosphere there. Angkor Wat and the other Temples near Siem Reap is one of my favorite destinations and #1 on my bucket list. I am excited to be coming back in August to film it for our Anthropological TH-cam channel. We loved the video and the fact that you are sharing this amazing location. We share the amazing cultures, places, and foods from our travels too and hope we can return the inspiration with you one day. - Turtle

      Hey Turtle! This was back in May 2022. Unfortunately most of the old restaurants and nearly all the shops Re gone now. I think if it’s someones first time there it would appear clean and organised but for us folk, I reckon it’s lost a bit of it’s charm. I use to love the little businesses that would pop up and the restaurant in front of Angkor was a favourite of my wife and I. Will be interesting to see your take on the place and how it’s changed when you visit. When was the last time you were there?
      Cheers - Marc

    3 gold camry right at the end! Better than seeing all the Prius! I really hope they keep the bridge out front of Angkor Wat just to maintain to old bridge. Good work

      G'day Chandy! Haha there was a smorgasbord of Gold Camrys at the end there haha!
      Agree about the bridge - the first time we went there were no hand rails either - really felt like you were discovering something special walking up it. It would be a shame if it couldn't be preserved..

      G'day Robert - yeah you could say it's a modern mini village full of shops isn't it!
      I'm so use to seeing all the familiar faces and sights around the temples but yeah for a new tourist it will definitely feel a bit cleaner.

    G,Day Mate , Its been about five years since we have been to Angkor Wat , it certainly looks so green there ! loved walking around a lot enjoying the slow pace around the temples , at one point i think i grew bat wings as certain tourists couldn't pass me so they had to wait like everyone else lol, couldn't help myself hahaha, It was awesome during the sunrise , but till i get back i'll just have to keep watching , if you had been many times before i think the old shops were better as you said no character but at least some where to sit for a rest , oh well Catchya...

      G'day Maddo! Mate I remember those days of being able to explore at a snail's pace - so much to take in at the temples! Yeah those little sets of shops always offered a place to sit and rest for a bit - was convenient too as you were never far from someone selling a refreshing drink!
      Hope you are well mate!
      Cheers - Marc

    Hi, great video. I plan to visit seam reap and the temples in a couple of weeks. I didn’t book any tour. Is it possible to hire a local tuktuk when I’m there? How much will it cost for a day out in the temples? As I’m staying there for 5 days, would it be possible to visit the temples on my own without guide for a day?

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Enrico - Sorry i didn't get to your comment earlier. There are lots of local guides and tuk tuks that will happily take you around the temples. Not sure what they charge these days but im sure it's pretty reasonable. Did you end up going? What was your experience like?
      Thanks for watching and for your comment mate! Cheers - Marc

    I don't care for that new shopping area either. Loved the photo recreation with Max. You did well to get him around all day like that!

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  ปีที่แล้ว

      The more I think about it the more that shopping area annoys me actually. I love the fact that you could always be within reach of a drink, a new pair of sunnies or a hat during any sort of tourist activity in Cambodia. Was always so convenient! I just hope the vendors do a good trade in their new spots.
      That day was huge - Really regretted leaving the baby carrier/pram behind. We saw 5 minutes of temple, 4 hours of Kinal chin wagging to her old friends and then spend a couple of hours at the shop on the beers....day well spent!
