G'day everyone - Today we head out to Run Ta Ek - the new village where everyone who use to live around the Angkor national park. It's pretty sparse out there at the moment, but hopefully in time the villagers will have a better life than what they had in their knock up villages around the temples.

Hi Folks, I hope this gives you some idea as to where the locals around Angkor were relocated to. In time, as the village develops I believe things will improve for them. It definitely won't happen overnight.Videos of the old house and village:

I have had the pleasure on a few occasions now to build houses for the poor families in that estate unfortunately for the people there the infrastructure is coming after the people had already been located there so in the meantime they continue to do it tough hopefully this area will eventually be a nice place to live. There is now a bus service to town to help with getting to work and better shopping 🙏

G'day Mr Jake! Mate that is fantastic - love the work you guys do in giving some of the families a leg up and help along. It truly is life changing for them and i bet very humbling for everyone involved. 100% spot on about people first, infrastructure second. I mean it happens in new developments in Australia however in Run Ta Ek they are starting from such a lower base. Fingers crossed it continues to improve - and the get more wins like the busses. Cheers mate!

G'day Maddo! Mate - it doesn’t take much for them to turn on the beers does it! I think this was just any old Wednesday too!
Agree mate, hopefully over time the place get the support and infrastructure it needs for everyone to live a comfy life out there.
hope you are travelling well mate and all is on the up!
      Cheers!

That was very interesting and in some ways reminded me of growing up in a small rural community in the states. Similar large family and neighborhood friendliness. Though construction workers do generally have pretty nice homes and incomes compared to those here. It will be interesting to see it build out and what the lives of the relocated people will be like.

G'day Rusty! Agree mate, like everything in Cambodia, time will tell and hopefully the place will become more homely for all. I bet the construction workers in Asia would hate to learn how well off the equivalent trades earn in the west 😱 Cheers mate - hope you are well!

Great video Marc and I now know the touching of meat is not a quality check but really just a habit , Fair way out but the new house was very impressive , well done . I wish you all well and hopefully some trees will be planted and the lake development is done well. Max has grown a lot too cheers .

G'day mate! Yeah the touching the meat was a bit of a surprise - always thought there was some science behind it too! Cheers mate, their new house was pretty impressive considering what they had been through!
Same here mate, just hope the place develops beyond a shadeless dust bowl - every little step forward will help but it will just take time - this is Cambodia after all.
Cheers and hope you are well!

G'day Marc & Kinal 😊 , hope all is going well , after watching this wonderful , and of course " sober " 🤣 , as well as informative documentary on Run Ta Ek , it did give me pause to reflect upon the resiliency of the Khmer people as a whole , compared to America , where it is not unusual to greet any government official , hell bent on taking your land and property , with a smile and a loaded shotgun 🤪, after all , we are civilized in the west 🤣, but you were right Marc when you stated in the previous video , it's going to take time for things to grow and progress , with that said , I am so impressed with your Sister-in-law's home , they did a fantastic job constructing that house 👍 , again , words are not enough to describe the resiliency of these people , things can , and will work out for these good people , I'm convinced should scientists ever succeed in building a rocket ship capable of transporting people to Mars , they would be wise to send the Khmer on that first mission , no doubt they would figure out how to survive 😊, great piece of film making , you were only attacked once by wildlife , and that's pretty good for you 🤣, the little guy looks great , not so little anymore I know , and before I sign off , may I simply say , if I ever need a wheelman , Kinal , you get the job 😊, you handle a car like a pro 😊, take care , see you on down the road , Peace

G'day Brian! Lovely comment as always mate! Glad you enjoyed the vid even though it got a little out of hand at the end hehe!
I reckon if you put the Khmers on Mars they would be working out how to grow rice and dry fish before anything!! They will certainly get the job done haha! Give them some time and hopefully things keep developing and improving for the locals. See you in the next one mate! Cheers - Marc

I believe the correct term is propertois

Haha that is the perfect pronunciation! Just need Brian out there in a suit like a real estate agent introducing each propertois to potential vendoirs!

Question , so the villagers were moved 30k , what happened to those that had employment near the old village?
    Peter Sukhothai

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

G'day Peter! In a nutshell - tough luck! A lot of the villagers had employment in little stalls or shops around Angkor Wat, so they have just set up shop again in the new village. Lots of the families had kids go to school in Siem Reap so they are now either travelling, or living with other family members in Siem Reap to continue studying there. It's a tough gig for them at the moment but hopefully things in the village will improve over time and the community becomes a bit more self sufficient. Cheers mate and hope you are well!
