In this video we head out to eat breaky in Phnom Penh.
Honestly - I don't understand the love of noodles for breaky, but hey that's ok!
I'm Marc - and these are my mildly interesting adventures, mostly through Cambodia and South East Asia.

Sorry folks - it's just a fact that noodles for breaky are overrated! 😁😁
G'day Marc & Kinal 😊, for me , having soup first off in the morning , can only mean one thing , " It's Hangover Recovery Time " , squirts be damned 🤣, hope all is well in your world , Peace
Ahh G'day Brian! Haha I like that the noodles signify the morning after a big night! So I must ask...how often do you partake in breakfast noodles? 😁😁😁🍻🍻🍻🍻 All is well here mate - hope you are doing wonderfully too!
Ku Teav is definitely delicious
G'day! Ah a fan of Ku Teav! What flavours do you like to add to your soup? Lots of chili? Sugar, sauce, sweet chilli etc.? How do I make it more appealing for me instead of waffles? Cheers mate!
That wok at 2:47 looked dicey. I wandered through crowded alleys thinking this must be where I can find the authentic Khmer food experience - never brave enough to try it. I'm with you - waffles - safe and delicious. Ch'nang.
Mate cannot go wrong with the waffles! I mean they are still an authentic Khmer food - so nothing wrong there! That wok did look a bit 'how you going' didn't it? Then again some of the best meals have probably come from kitchens that were a bit 'on the nose' by out standards. Cheers Dave!
Great video 📹 mate. Good to see you and the family out and about. Mmmm 😋 waffles 🧇!
Hey Ed! Cheers mate! Yep thought you might be on team waffle! Hope you are well mate!
I'm doing very well in Kampot.
A special friend is joining me here in a week. Life is going to better.😁
G'day mate, yep not my idea for breakky either , but better than spicy hot rice soup first up holly crap that got me lol live n learn , waffles n some topping yep much better with a nice coffee also ..
Catchya...
G'day Maddo! Haha geez that sounds like a shock to the system! In such a hot climate, I never understood the hot spicy soupy breakfasts! Ah well - waffles all the way haha! Hope you are doing alright mate! Cheers!
Some of the streets in Cambodia I wish I went down like you did, I should have videod everything I saw, we didn't have soup there but have had it in Springvale
G'day Robert! Ah there are so many of these little laneways and alleyways that would go undiscovered unless you went with someone that knew what was what! Plenty of hidden gems out there for you to discover next time!
Was the soup any good in Springvale? What place do you go to? Cheers mate hope you are well!
@@MarcsMildlyInteresting hi Marc, we go to Phnom Penh Thmei on Queens Ave they are very popular and the soups are good
I love noodles for Breakfast.. mmm.. and the red syrup is Thai style sala flavoured concentrated syrup for drinking or desserts. Sala is a fruit in SE Asia.. google is wonderful!
Ahh there you go! I just thought 'red' flavour haha! Thanks for the tip - learn something every day!
Have you ever had the waffles for breaky? Surely will give those noodles a run for their money..?? Cheers!!
@@MarcsMildlyInteresting goodness no... not a sweet tooth at all... love pho.. noodles... am going to try ko dat when at the market for breakfast.. not interested in western food at all when I am away. (though I do love maccas for the clean toilets) I ate Tarantulas last time in SR.. had scorpions in Beijing, seahorse, donkey.. snake.. I realise its different for you as you are there much more and the fun of new food is probably less fun than for me.
I live in the US for 40 years and I still prefer ka tiev for breakfast over waffles 😁 although we dont cook them every morning because its just a long process and would be very costly, but I would have them whenever i can. I love how you speak khmer 😆
Chili sauce in ka tiev is just like you put syrup on waffles in the States
G’day Synn! Ahh nice mate! I empathise with that cooking process, when Kinal cooks something at home it takes her half a day - Khmer food has so many elements - so completely understand you jumping at Ka Tiev at any opportunity!!
Where in the States are you? Have you been back to Cambodia much since leaving? Cheers for watching and the comment mate!
Marc
Im from the East Coast (MA). Planning to visit in June 2025, will be my first time. Im kinda hesitated because of the heat. I dont think i can handle the heat 😬
What a tease. You left me hanging - how were the bloody waffles? Were they better than SR?
Haha you are right Steve! Mate the SR waffles are still the ones to beat. These ones were good, but not as good as the masters!
I feel like a barang because I've never liked eating Ka Tiev for breakfast. I too would of started with waffles but hey each to their own.
Hey mate! Did Mumma Sao ever do a Ka Tiev? It's hard growing up on cornflakes and toast then switching to a bloody hot soup as a breakfast - I suppose they look at us Aussies and wonder why we don't put tomato sauce on our pizza or dip our bread in sweet milk!
Cannot lose with those waffles though!! Cheers!!
She does. She makes it occasionally for lunch and probably dinner if any is left over. I know the elderly that like to eat Ka Tiev for breakfast.
Surely the big question is yet to be answered... How were the waffles??? :)
G'day mate! Ahh sorry yeah i left everyone hanging! They were ok - but not as good as the ones in Siem Reap. But i don't think there is such a thing as a bad waffle though hehe! Cheers!!
🌸 P r o m o s m
so what does this actually mean or do? I mean come on - genuinely curious about these comments...?
They aren't my favourite either 😢
G’day John! Agree mate - just can’t get excited about noodles. Each to their own I suppose. Cheers!
