G'day all - geez this was a tough video to make haha! It is fantastic there are so many new beers in Cambodia since the last time we came. So rather than compare to the best, we compared to what i think is the worst (Ganzberg) to see if Vattanac, Krud or Hanuman Beer could possibly be worse!
Of course beer preference is subjective and these are just our thoughts!
@nowinlao Hey Todd - mate any truth to BeerLao being a 'rice beer'?
I'm Marc - and these are my mildly interesting adventures, mostly through Cambodia and South East Asia.

G'day everyone - so have you had any of these beers before? Do you agree? Disagree? Tell us your best and worst Khmer beers in the comments and I will line em up for the next trip! Cheers everyone! 🍻🇰🇭
As a craft beers lover - especially hazy IPAs at the moment - they are all flavoured water......
Well - just off to the first of Claire's recommended lunch spots- Try Me in Taphul Rd....
Haha flavoured water! Mate in the heat of Cambodia i’d take a flavoured water over some of those heavy flavoured craft ones 😁😁
Try me is great! The Source Cafe down the road and the Italian place next door to it are great as well! Enjoy mate!
Don't mind Krud, fun name as well.
Yeah the ol Krud went down well! Don’t think it has what it takes to take down Cambodia beer though!
Hey Marc, the room looks like the hotel room at Chateau d’Angkor La Residence in Siem Reap. We stayed there last January.
HeyThave - you be correct! I will have a room tour up by this weekend! Might be the same one haha! Cheers mate!!
Cambodian beer review, awesome mate!
I liked ganzberg but in the tropical heat I'd enjoy anything!
Have a great weekend
G'day mate! Yeah Ganzberg is ok all things considered - next time try a Vattanac in the heat and let me know if you still feel the same 🤣!!
Cheers!!
Rice is a common adjunct in beer making. Classic American Pilsner (CAP) requires about 40% of the grain to be corn/maize or rice. One of my favourite craft beers from what is now Bacchus Brewing
Hey Mark & Kim! I knew a few Asian beers used rice but not a Pilsner! There you go! What is your fave craft beer from Bacchus? Maybe I can find it here and give it a go!!
@MarcsMildlyInteresting Hi Marc. Bacchus Brewing is in Brisbane (not to be confused with Bacchus Marsh - near Melbourne). Whilst I loved Ross's brews I currently live too far away to partake. I'd be surprised if his supply reaches to Cambodia yet. But, I'm heartened at your hint that Aussie or NZ craft beers might be available - I'll be 'boots on ground' in Siem Reap on 8th Dec. (KL and Penang from 2 Oct).
I've become a recent fan of hazy IPAs. Black Hops is worth a taste....
Ahhhh that makes sense. Sorry there is an energy drink here that is also called Bacchus - I thought they brewed that beer you were talking about haha!
There are a few craft beer places in and around town so hopefully you should be able to find something that takes your fancy. December is a brilliant time to visit, Cambodias winter! They get 2 or 3 nights where the mercury drops below 20c and everyone freezes!
We've been frequenting a bar and restaurant in Palm St., Sala Kamreuk - opposite Khmer House Resort and tested all those beers
Agree hands down!
G'day Mark! Haha nice! Good to know our taste buds agree. Seriously how does anyone drink the Vattanac stuff and enjoy it! Cheers mate!
Well.... Cambodia and Angkor are owned by Carlsberg.
Krud is made by Vattanac. Vattanac is Cambodian owned.
I tried Vattanac light (and Vattanac yesterday). Drunk with a mug of ice is OK.....ish
Ahh there you go! Also agree a watered down Vattanac with ice is probably less offensive to the senses!
G'day mate , as an ozzie beer connoisseur, all those shelves full of beverages awaiting consumption looks mmmmm but from the items tested i wonder if they compare as the good ol crest lager, courage draught or that recycled p11s 4xxxx from the pineapple state ? So it sounds you couldn't pay us to drink that V stuff even tho lots of beers have been tested for us potential consumers , any way Catchya...
G'day Maddo! So what is your prefered ale when over there mate??
I reckon the pineapple beer ranks better than that V stuff. It just had a really really strong aftertaste - like a crownie or one of those little creatures beers. One mouthful stays with you for 20mins! In KH you need a solid drinking beer, one that goes down with no fuss and is low gas so you have enough room in your guts for another 8!!
@@MarcsMildlyInteresting G'Day marc hhmm been out of practice , but have seen some craft beer places springing up but might be a little pricey tho checking them out ,so i think I'll have to re acquaint myself by spending some time surveying the establishment thats got the coldest beers first , hey I'm just dreaming lol Cambodia beer is was a fav any way
Catchya
😉🙃😁
The unfortunately named "Krud" is definitely the best of that bunch. Funnily enough, I think it is actually made by Vattanac.
I'm still "Cambodia" boy though.
G'day mate! Yeah Krud goes alright actually - just a pity they didn't do a bit of googling when the named it. All i think of is the old Crud show on Triple M 20 years ago! And you are correct - the same brewery pumps out both those beers so at least the got one right!
Cambo/Angkor is still my go to as well! At least there are plenty of options these days!
Cheers mate, thanks for watching and the comment!
Champs! 🤣🤣🤣
Hehe cheers mate! Do you have a prefered Cambodian Brew? (or least prefered one hehe) Cheers and thanks for watching!
@@MarcsMildlyInteresting I liked Cambodia beer....good for it's price. Angkor was ok too, had that in the citycentre. They can keep the Anchor and Ganzberg. Also this DARK beer..... don't remember the name. All men en women were drinking that during Songkran......OMG. Not my taste. :-)))
Ohhh was it ABC Stout?? For some reason they love this stuff! A dark ale in that climate, no thanks! I'm with you on this one - pour that one straight down the sink!!
@@MarcsMildlyInteresting yes, it was ABC. The can looks great....but the stout...🤢
Cambodia beer #1 🍺, vattanac is terrible 😂
G'day Paul! Yeah Cambodia cans go alright don't they! Glad you agree with our thoughts on Vattanac 🤣🤣! Although someone out there must like it. Have you ever had Krud or Hanuman? Cheers mate!
