Biffa there is a Metro Sation mod you might like called (IIRC) "2 Platforms Parallel (4 tracks)" which is actually fantastic for setting up district "loops" so that passengers can change lines at one station without the metro trains backing into each other.
One thing I've tried with some success on several cities was make a highway exit on the submap closest to the edge (since it takes funky mods to build outside of the purchasable map area), place a parking lot/parking garage next to a metro (or train) station, and then run the metro (or train) to the areas they are wanting to go to. It has cut down on passenger cars coming in from outside the city by quite a bit. Anytime you see it starting to affect another area, add another metro/train line to that area connected from the edge station(s). So it doesn't look so out of place, can use some industry or something in the area to look like a small developing area.
I prefer to use timed traffic light all the time if there’s not enough space for a roundabout or if it seems inconvenient, but it took too much time to set up them. Now I’m the happiest person in my life they’ve added auto-setup, makes life easier. Congrats, Biffa!
Love your new city! I think it's time to expand. I would like to see you adding a totally separate city/town at the same map and giving a few tips on road, rail and perhaps maritime connections
Your link to the park area (when you added a cross over station) when you extended the original line missed the stop by clicking first and last station only thus there’s no link and the metro just goes through without stopping to the main line
I'd love to see elevated metros in Teaville, you should consider looking at implementing Metro Overhaul in the city. For the Olympic park-style area the modern-looking concrete tracks and surface-level/elevated tracks would suit the area best.
A good way to avoid traffic going into small roads, instead of using the main roads, is to make some small districts and put the "old town" restriction on, that way they will only go in there if they have business to do there. Particularly useful for avoiding industrial traffic in residential areas. Just make sure your main roads are up for the increased traffic.
Love the new TM:PE features - thanks for explaining these. I find that as I'm building, especially something like a sports center, I will mess up traffic too. Then I need to go back and spend an hour (or more) fixing it. Thanks for showing this too!
I am a big fan of preventing people from making left hand turns, especially when there is a roundabout nearby. Like that connecting road that you added right near the end of the video. And I know you generally do not like it but maybe consider doing some lane mathematics on that L-about at the road you added at the end that got immediately busy. Just add a node in-between the next turn off.

If there is a stop with a load of people waiting for a bus, I will pop in a metro station nearby. After I get done with all of the bus lines, I will be able to connect the stations up in ways that make sense, and the metro immediately gets use and the bus lines don't need dozens of units to service the users.

I'm honestly surprised features like this aren't in the core game yet. It's such an essential part of playing the game, at least for me. I rarely play the game and only have 1 "really large" city, but without this mod, it would just grind to a halt immediately.
Remember saying that you get loads of comments about not connecting your metro tunnel to the stop in your industry area. Well after u you connected you didn't add a stop in the station. Enjoy the comments. Great vid biffa 👏👏
In that square you bought to put that one off ramp, why not build out a proper 4 way junction to let people transfer highways right there instead of making weird bypasses through the middle of your city?
I actually took an estimate last time I took public transport. I edited my buses to carry 60 people, and my metro to carry 100/car. It's like the game only counts seats, not standing room... Hell, there's like 40-odd seats on subway cars. So they're even underestimating that at 30 passengers per car. Anyway, just something to consider. You can actually turn a profit with public transport, and you don't have to ruin your traffic with 1000 buses or have endless queues.
What I would love from TMPE would be a combined arrows/vehicle restrictions. ie Buses and service vehiclrs can turn right from this lane, but not cars or trucks. You can hack it through lane restrictions and stuff, but it's not as neat.
with all those multiple route metro stations is it worth finding some metro stations with four or more platforms on the workshop to try and keep each line separate whilst still maintaining interchange within the one station?
While I've learned a lot watching your videos (my city never had any traffic issues, 70k ppl and 85/87% traffic), I've been doing the metro layouts like that since I started and it works great. The big loops never worked in my mind, seems super unpractical and you end up spending more money. I still think you added too many metro stations and bus lines - probably because you are used to the big loop xD - I use ONE metro only for each huge residential / commercial / industrial areas and just a few bus lines (I don't think I have more than 5 lines on my 70k city) and it works, CIMs walk a lot in my experience (I don't use any mod for this), I just make sure they all have good walking paths connecting the routes / blocks. The traffic lights Quick Setup is a revolution. I've never had the patience to manually set traffic lights, waaaay too complex before.
I have an idea. When going onto the "L-about" there should be an extra lane to accept turning traffic for a couple of lengths, and the input lanes should all be set to "continue through nodes". The roads feeding it should all be single lane, and seperate from the output lanes, which should also be single lane when possible. This would maximize the traffic flow, and allow a truly massive amount of traffic to flow through a single L-about or large Oval-about, without the need for a huge interchange.
When placing lane arrows on two lane junctions, it is generally speaking best to have right and straight on one lane and left on its own lane (for right side driving)
Good job Biffa, you are coming to the traffic light side, good, very good. Also, when are you going to take care of the waste int the ocean, and you have all your demands for residential, commercial, and industry maxed out.
I love this feature! Thanks for doing a somewhat spot light of the new feature for traffic manager. Lane arrow ease is brilliant . Too bad you can select the whole road at a time. Maybe at a later update though.
Another strategy is to possibly add a stop quite close to another station but this station instead will be having many frequent feeder buses to the areas that are not covered by walking distance
Everyone negatively commenting .... making a video, being informative, being cordial, planning the traffic, metro, buses, industry and playing the game is a lot of grapes on the plate to watch at once. So he missed a metro stop and he missed a lane arrow change at 19:01 but you know what? it is easy sitting in your chair, sipping a soda and watching every move someone makes to spot a mistake... if you didn't make mistakes you wouldn't be watching the video. Personally, I want to thank Biffa for choosing this as a means of livelihood, his tone, his vernacular and his wit are just soothing, his building skills are phenomenal as is his knowledge of the game... I am on my fourth city now thanks to Biffa getting me addicted to cities skyline and teaching me how to play the game. About 2 weeks into it, 90k population, 40k a week profit, 80% traffic, all four industrial areas in DLC industries running at a profit .... if someone can just tell me how to make my stupid warehouses send goods to my unique factories that sit idle most of the time waiting for.... say glass when there is 80 tons of glass in a warehouse on the same lot as the factory, I would appreciate it...lol Now there is a video we could all use... :P Thanks Biffa.... have a great one man....
If you click "copy" while on the timed traffic lights screen then click the node you want to add, it copies the settings and seems to work in conjunction with the original I think anyway - perhaps just unbelievably good timing.
looking at your videos, and regarding your comment about not wanting to just have metro loops everywhere, i'm often wondering about just having multiple vertically parallel road networks for different types of traffic, heavy at the bottom or in a tunnel, cars in the middle, pedestrianisation that the top. there's double-decker roads on the work shop, but seeing a quadruple-decker highway or road network implemented would be interesting.
I think what this automatic timed lights feature does is simply translate basic game lights into editable form. Before you had to start from scratch and build each segment of it manually, which for people starting out could be very daunting (as, its not very clear how to do it properly, so lots of trial and error, and every junction with more than 2 lane roads from each side was a little nightmare). Now you have your template just as is, and if you just wanted to make a green arrow for turning right, you can just switch one thing and be done with it. Still pretty cool.
I bought this game after watching a Biffa marathon, played for the first time yesterday and every time I did a roundabout or managed traffic I heard in his voice “you go here, you go here, you go there.....”
Side note, I tagged you in a twitter post with my city with roundabouts and lane control STILL suffering. Will have to try this and see if these lights help maybe. Otherwise, my cry for help is much needed. LOL
Quick question! If I want to begin watching the building of this city, should I go back to Kerrisdale? The first episode on teaville already starts with a build city, so I'm very confuse @_@
Biffa uses timed traffic lights. Forgets the name of his lord and saviour Roundabouts. Also forgets to add a metro stop at his long line for the transfer. People don't want to go from the stadium then be stranded in the industry area, who knew!
If cars are driving on the right, you need to separate the left turns, since they are in conflict with oncoming traffic, while right turns and straight traffic go well together. It seems like the automatic separation in TM:PE is doing this wrong, as well as the base game, which always separates right turns instead of left turns.
Hey man, why dont you ever use the multiplatform metro stations? They are pretty useful saving a little space and they are also more realistic i feel than normal 1 awning stations
quick extra bit, I've found on those "interchange" metro stations that you can set the lines to stop on opposite sides if you take an extra minute to adjust the lines. The trains don't get held up queuing for the stop so much. The new TMPE looks pretty good graphically even on the lane connectors now! side question: I'm looking for a few extra asymmetrical roads like the 1+3 etc...suggestions for a non-dlc person?
@biffa tmpe 11 does do multiple junction timed traffic lights. Just not with the control click shortcut, have to set up manually. I love it for my round a bouts!
@1:47 what if i come back to this intersection late,r look at it form another angle, and do the roads checked again and notice the discrepency? Do the horizontal roads change only? because the first time you did it at aprox @1:00 it didnt work for the entire intersection...

Regarding the metro's line 1 was successful because that is exactly how it is supposed to be built unless you are building a loop in tight business district it won't make much difference. @23:05 you mentioned the way private vehicles are moving across the city that is your cue to build the metro line in your city follow the same route with multiple stops but not a loop keeps it like line 1.
For line 2 instead of going all the way out pls add stops in prospect district and then end at current. then just extend line 1 and close line 2.
I'm honestly surprised features like this aren't in the core game yet. It's such an essential part of playing the game, at least for me. I rarely play the game and only have 1 "really large" city, but without this mod, it would just grind to a halt immediately.
"If we pause the game and delete that van"
So that explains how I got to this dimension...
A great update to the traffic mod! A great time saver. Your fix up videos will be half the size. :)
Remember saying that you get loads of comments about not connecting your metro tunnel to the stop in your industry area. Well after u you connected you didn't add a stop in the station. Enjoy the comments. Great vid biffa 👏👏
😋
In that square you bought to put that one off ramp, why not build out a proper 4 way junction to let people transfer highways right there instead of making weird bypasses through the middle of your city?
I likely will at some point :-)
"I've never used so many traffic lights in my life" good ol Biffa ;p
I actually took an estimate last time I took public transport. I edited my buses to carry 60 people, and my metro to carry 100/car. It's like the game only counts seats, not standing room... Hell, there's like 40-odd seats on subway cars. So they're even underestimating that at 30 passengers per car.
Anyway, just something to consider. You can actually turn a profit with public transport, and you don't have to ruin your traffic with 1000 buses or have endless queues.
22:54 - 22:58 Biffa: What was the name of the thingie again? ... A roundabout!
What I would love from TMPE would be a combined arrows/vehicle restrictions. ie Buses and service vehiclrs can turn right from this lane, but not cars or trucks. You can hack it through lane restrictions and stuff, but it's not as neat.
with all those multiple route metro stations is it worth finding some metro stations with four or more platforms on the workshop to try and keep each line separate whilst still maintaining interchange within the one station?
updates to a mod tool Biffa's mind is blown
Today's episode marks the end of the roundabout era and the beginning of the timed traffic lights era.
Yea, we shall record them as BTL and ATL.
Watch the video 😉
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines I have
I love this feature! Thanks for doing a somewhat spot light of the new feature for traffic manager. Lane arrow ease is brilliant . Too bad you can select the whole road at a time. Maybe at a later update though.
Looking forward to getting the latest Traffic Manager Mod, Biffa! I love those updates! Are there room for ferries yet? 🤔
About 2 weeks into it, 90k population, 40k a week profit, 80% traffic, all four industrial areas in DLC industries running at a profit ....
if someone can just tell me how to make my stupid warehouses send goods to my unique factories that sit idle most of the time waiting for.... say glass when there is 80 tons of glass in a warehouse on the same lot as the factory, I would appreciate it...lol
Now there is a video we could all use... :P
Thanks Biffa.... have a great one man....
It's easy to be a back seat gamer. You have to have a thick skin to be a TH-camr (and a comment delete button). Thanks for the comment ;-)
I see Biffa has been made a happy Lenny with the new traffic manager update ^^
If you click "copy" while on the timed traffic lights screen then click the node you want to add, it copies the settings and seems to work in conjunction with the original
I think anyway - perhaps just unbelievably good timing.
Been missing your videos as of late, and I just so happen to stumble upon your epiphanic episode! 😅Love it!
looking at your videos, and regarding your comment about not wanting to just have metro loops everywhere, i'm often wondering about just having multiple vertically parallel road networks for different types of traffic, heavy at the bottom or in a tunnel, cars in the middle, pedestrianisation that the top. there's double-decker roads on the work shop, but seeing a quadruple-decker highway or road network implemented would be interesting.
Biffa’s mind is blown, no more roundabouts 🤯
That update could be a game changer! Thanks for sharing this!
Start at the other end of the playlist (it's a long story don't ask) ;-)
Maybe an expressway bypassing the whole city so the people going through don't clog up the junctions.
That makes traffic management at traffic lights easier. Now to make Biffa Lane Mathematics on the Roundabout Builder one click :-)
In the tile you bought. If I were you i world put a Proper junction in there. It will surely decrease traffic.
Biffa uses timed traffic lights. Forgets the name of his lord and saviour Roundabouts.
Also forgets to add a metro stop at his long line for the transfer. People don't want to go from the stadium then be stranded in the industry area, who knew!
Eh, they all have pocket cars anyhow, so it's fine.
If cars are driving on the right, you need to separate the left turns, since they are in conflict with oncoming traffic, while right turns and straight traffic go well together. It seems like the automatic separation in TM:PE is doing this wrong, as well as the base game, which always separates right turns instead of left turns.
@24:50 you do you bro :-D I always look forward to watchign your videos :-D
Brilliant update but I shouldn't have watched this at 2am!! Now I want to load up my city and see if I can fix even more traffic problems!! haha
The trafic light you are looking for in order to synchronize the crosses, is the one on the top line but you have to program it step by step.
The update for TMPE looks cool! 👍
Thanks Biffa. Love learning new tips, with each of your videos. You're the best!
Those are some good updates to the traffic mod! Auto lane management ;)
22:54 timed traffic lights came and all of a sudden biffa cant remember how are roundabouts called
Network Extentions 2 mod has the interesting roads, though it's only on the Steam version of the game.
So many trees in the road, that's why I hate Anarchy.
@biffa tmpe 11 does do multiple junction timed traffic lights. Just not with the control click shortcut, have to set up manually. I love it for my round a bouts!
Yeah I was hoping for an auto setup 👍
@1:47 what if i come back to this intersection late,r look at it form another angle, and do the roads checked again and notice the discrepency? Do the horizontal roads change only? because the first time you did it at aprox @1:00 it didnt work for the entire intersection...
Synced timed traffic lights would definitely make managing traffic patterns much more viable, I think.
