    PSA to everybody reading this: please do not use scented products in confined areas. For people with asthma it's like torture

    • @mehe85
      @mehe85 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Shannon or Dickens I suffer from asthma but I'd prefer a scent than awful body odour. My asthma is manageable with a preventer and ventolin

      mehe85 Thank you! Yes we have triggers but if properly managed we can live amongst be the rest of society with little to no problems! As you said BO is much worse than perfume.

      B.O. is terrible, but if you're allergic to perfumes/colognes, they're worse! At least B.O. doesn't make my throat close up or give me a rash all over my face and neck.

      I haven't figured out if it's airport toilets or aeroplane toilets that make me get some sort of tummy bug, but for a 7+ hour flight, with a 3+ hour trip TO the airport, I'm gonna have to go at some point and I just know I'm gonna get to my destination and get sick at some point early on.

    I don't understand why so many of the comments here are so rude. Lily is offering tips to survive long haul flights. For some, long could be 4 hours or 10 hours or 20 hours. It doesn't matter, this isn't a competition. As long as these tips help a few people, especially those suffering from anxiety, it's amazing. We could all do with being a little bit more considerate of others, especially when we know that others on the same flight may be suffering from anxiety or allergies or migraines. Just be kind, y'all.

    • @nikkimorrison8115
      @nikkimorrison8115 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I dont think anyone was really being rude they were just offering a point of view from a different perspective, just because they're thoughts weren't in line with yours or the video doesn't make it rude to voice them. Perhaps the consideration needs to be implemented where others have an opinion and accept that there are people who these tips will work for and people who disagree..the people that jump in straight away accusing others of being rude for simply interjecting a thought on the topic at hand are very narrow sighted and need to not be so defensive. It wouldn't have occurred to me either that a nice perfume or a scented hand cream might cause discomfort if not actual pain to another person had these people not commented so in actual fact I found that to be extremely helpful if them, not rude at all, I will be much more aware and put more thought into what I use in flight from now on because after all we're all just trying to enjoy our trip, we're all just trying to get somewhere as peacefully as possible and as much as I may like a certain scent, not having it is not going to kill me and let's face it, I'm not the only person on the plane.. We could ALL do with a little of consideration towards someone else, showing a little bit of compassion and consideration to others is a quick way to restore everyone's faith in humanity... Even if it is just for a little while.

      I learned the hard way how perfume can affect some people on planes. Many are allergic to it! I still feel ashamed thinking back. I felt compelled to go to the bathroom to wash off the perfume as best as I could so that the girl beside me could breath and eat.

  • @duckpondwithoutducks

    I don't want to be rude, but using scented products in a confined space like a plane where there is no fresh air is really hard for a lot of people. I have asthma, and scented products make me wheeze and cough. I also get migraines, and scents are one of my triggers. It is also really hard if a migraine is triggered for a person on a long flight where you can't lie down and you feel nauseated, et cetera. Also, for people with chemical sensitivities, what smells great to most people, to them smells terrible. I have a friend who is worse than me and actually gets heart palpitations from perfumed things. It is really hard for her on a plane where she can't just leave the room, and she is forced to endure it.

    Great video, but just a heads up for anyone doing a long haul flight for something like Europe to Australia, don't eat things like salty chips or really sugary food. The salty chips will just make you retain fluid which will make you feel really uncomfortable, and the sugary food (and salty food) will dehydrate you.

      Unless you're travelling within the country you live in, you need your passport to go anywhere past the check in desk. At least that's what I understood the role was a decade ago, and this year in America. I'm so glad to finally see a TH-camr who wears comfy clothes and flight socks on a long haul flight! So many people seem to wear skinny jeans and sandals, I don't know how they don't end up with DVT.

      Diane Bishop Clothes that are so constricting bother me on flights!! I usually wear leggings and a sweater. I do however wear sandals because they're easy to kick off because I don't like wearing shoes on flights. I bring fuzzy socks and wear those during the flight.

    • @Roadent1241

    • @ThatGirlJD
      @ThatGirlJD 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Roadent1241 Yes you can, most people just wear a shirt long enough to cover their bottom and front. In other words just don't flaunt camel toe or panty lines. Thicker leggings that don't sheer out when stretched over your legs also are advised.

    This video has been so helpful for me. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who needs a routine before flying to help ease my anxiety. I get very nervous and panicky (especially at take off I majorly freak out!). I'm very appreciative of this video and you should ignore all the nasty people, they clearly do not understand what it is like to have anxiety/fear of flying! I have a 8 hour flight in about 5 weeks which I'm really worrying about but I know once I'm there it will be worth it!

    Love this! It's also just a nice reminder to think of caring for yourself, whether that is in flight or not. I always find that if I take the time to "check in" with myself before a trip then I'm less likely to get sick. I've had way too many trips that I'm uber stressed before it and end up getting sick as soon as I reach my destination. Wonderful video! And loved all of your snaps from your honeymoon. Lovely trip!!

    I always check in online 24 hours before I fly. I got to my airport 2 hours (as I always do, and I normally have 30-45 mins waiting to board) before I flew from Toronto to San Fransisco last month, and the US line was horrendous just to get into security. We had to be taken to the front of the line when the officer asked if anyone's flight were within the hour. When I managed to clear security and customs, I was running late, and headed straight for the bathroom when the final boarding call for my flight was being called, and I forgot the bathroom and bolted for my gate. They didn't call my name, or anything, even after I checked in the day before. The plane would have left without me.

    I'm really just going for 2 hrs but this is great for the international airport in my country takes 16 hrs from my place to there and here's my personal tips:
    *When you use the toilet please use tissue papers on the lid*
    It's good when you're a germaphobe or don't wanna get sick
    *Please do not use water on the plane use your own sanitizer or wet wipes* It could be dirty
    *Get early to the flight 4hrs or 8hrs by don't go by 1hr left*
    Yeah you're gonna get a missed flight or you'll gonna get your flight delayed
    I do these because I'm not the type of person who likes to be late or dirty
    Please don't reply to me I hate being replied to, I hate criticism even the constructive criticism

Love that you like James Taylor on take off & eat salt & vinegar chips-two of my favs. All your suggestions are great & have done some of them over time. I just went on a flight & watched a lady take everything out on her purse & wipe it off with wipes & cleaned the inside of her purse & put it all back in. Hi Lily, I liked your reminder to be grateful and excited we have the chance to take a long flight getting you somewhere far-off. Can you imagine what it would have been like sailing in a wooden ship in the lower decks for WEEKS at a time?!!
    Also, just a thought; I wouldn't stow my shoes where I couldn't access them immediately in an emergency. I just would tuck them under seat in front of me if I took them off. Thanks to people like you using their long-haul flight as a fragrant quasi-spa experience, people like me spend their flight with a migraine, hay fever or asthma attack that mat ruin the entire holiday or work trip. So utterly unfair. You mention hoping those around you don't mind, so you're aware your preference may invade boundaries. Yet you choose to use perfumed products anyway. Ever considered asking people if they mind? You'd need to ask everyone on the plane though, as scent travels and lingers in a confined space. Unironic Household Hints I only realised this about a year ago and I've completely stopped. I used to bring all kinds of things (sleep spray, perfume, face masks, etc) until someone told me that they get migraines from them on planes. I honestly hadn't ever thought about it like that but now I keep it simple with a stick deodorant, a micellar water and an intense moisturiser that has little to no smell at all.

      Unironic Household Hints I can relate to your comment 1000%. It's amazing to me how folks don't consider others when using scented products in enclosed spaces.

      Unironic Household Hints it's not that hard to use unscented skincare and refrain from spraying perfume and deoderant into the air! the air in planes is enough if you have asthma without adding all the extra beauty routine bs

    This was so helpful. I have traveled to Europe from America often, but I have yet to figure what it is I NEED to make it that much better. My takeaway were those noise-cancelling headphones because I'm so sensitive to sounds when I sleep, and the face oil! I'd also recommend a silk (or satin) eye mask. They're great for blocking out any additional light when you're trying to rest. Sometimes I won't sleep, but I do like to relax with music and my eyes closed to forget where I am.

    I find that when I used to be anxious of flying (I'm not anxious anymore, I actually enjoy flying now). I used to just get up and go pee in the bathroom.
    Most anxiety is from feeling a lack of control. So when you get up and pee it's like your mind knows your ok. Also keep in mind that there are two trained people flying.
    I like to wear sweats and hoodies to be comfortable. Music, books, and now it's common for most planes to have free movies. I play a roleplaying game on my phone, that takes lots of time too.
    Great advice in this video by the way

    I would recommend buying snacks before you go to the airport. They are 3x cheaper at the store, magazines too. Usually take chocolate, something fruity and something salty. And just buy the water at the airport

    I've never had a hard time passing time on long-haul flights. I usually give myself an informal list of things to do or work on while on the flight, and I end up doing maybe one of them. Like, I always tell myself that I'm going to try to get a lot of reading done since I can never seem to find the time to read much at home. But then I end up just sleeping most of the time.

    A few years back I was travelling to New Zealand/Australia and the air company I was flying with decided to go on strike! They were not able to get us a flight out of that airport so we ended up taking a 15 hour bus ride to a different city, had a 4 hour layover, then a 5 hour flight, then a 2 hour layover, a 14 hour flight and then another 2 hour bus ride! It also took us 2-3 hours to get to the first airport where we waited approx. 8 hours just to see if they could get us on another flight! Definitely a nightmare!
