I really like the noise canceling headphones ! Make sure they are called noise cancelling & not noise reducing. The noise reducing style only reduce the noise with the headphone cushions . The price will reflect the difference. I also tried noise canceling ear buds that were very expensive. They didn't work that well and were uncomfortable. Go for the full size noise canceling head phone with lots of padding. One can wear them with no audio coming through and have dead silence. I use them on the trains to block out the rude people who run their mouth the whole trip and have regards for people around them.

Everyone sharing itineraries so… here’s mine. Getting ready for another 25 hours in the aluminum tube - starting in Boston heading to Tokyo - that section is almost 14 hours duration - leaving just after noon from Logan in Boston and flying northwest over Canada heading toward Alaska, over the Bearing Sea, then south along Kamchatka Peninsula approaching Japan from the north, so flying over Hokkaido, and finally a slight right turn down into Narita - then… change planes in Narita for another flight of 10+ more hours, continuing south across the South China Sea (lots of turbulence in that part - bumpy bumpy) past the Philippines and over the Java Sea and finally down into CGK (Soekarno-Hatta) (SHIA) airport in Jakarta on the northwest side of the Island of Java… arriving around 1am the following day and finally out into the balmy tropical night. The journey crosses twelve time zones and the International Date Line. I don’t bother to reset my watch to sync with the time of my destination bcoz it’s the same hour just twelve hours ‘in the future’ so to speak. My airline of choice for the trip is JAL. They have a gigantic selection of menu options catering to all sorts of international diets from American, Japanese, Vegan, Hindu vegetarian, Jain vegetarian, Moslem, Halal, Kosher, Diabetic, Gluten intolerant… special meals for ppl with allergies, for passengers with religious dietary restrictions, several kids meals… it’s amazing the amount of thought that went into their numerous menu choices. I’m curious about the planning of the schedule - they serve the passengers a meal about an hour after takeoff and when everyone has eaten and the cleanup has finished they dim the lights and tint the windows creating an artificial twilight (tho it’s actually late afternoon) and many passengers try to settle in for some sleep. Fourteen hours. 14. For me… somewhere around eight to nine hours into the flight I find myself getting impatient still knowing we have six more hours til Narita, followed by a short walk thru the terminal to an identical plane for…. OMG… ten plus hours more heading toward Jakarta. It usually takes me at least two or three days to flip my schedule to get used to being exactly twelve hours out of sync with my life ‘on the other side’ since the two locations are on opposite sides of the world. What tips do I have? Can’t say bcoz everyone is different. I like to find something to read that will keep me interested and turning pages as much as possible… so that’s when I put aside the science and literature I normally read and try to find a thick novel. I agree with selecting a good seat. Personally, I prefer the window seat just because of being able to look out and then able to rest my head if I need to sleep.

Lol I've been flying such cheapo airlines recently that they don't serve food (even for 8+ hours) unless you pay!! My favorite strat has been to remove the emergency booklet and any brochures from the seat back pocket immediately when getting on a plane and tucking them out of the way (usually between seat legs on the floor keeps them stable). Then, I put all of my in-flight essentials in the pocket. This makes it feel much more like my own space and less cluttered. I heard of a lady recently who brought an orange with her and used the peels as a natural scent diffuser!
Thanks for a lovely video ☺I'm flying from LA to Stockholm where I'm originally from. Picking my desired seat and blankets are absolute necessities for me on these long haul flights. The basis for a comfortable flight 😅
Hi from Texas. Hubby and I will going on my first international trip to Spain and Italy in October a little nervous but mostly excited. I decided to just be in the moment once we get there. Just booking some of must see places in Madrid, Barcelona, Florence and Rome then winging the rest. We will be there total of 20 days. Celebrating hubby’s belated retirement and it will be his 68th birthday too.
Next long haul flight is SF to Manila (15+ hours, non-stop). Booked a seat in the first row of economy (just behind premium economy) facing the bulkhead and next to the emergency exit....3-feet of leg room and its positioned right over the wings which fulcrum point of the planes' rotating axis (most stable, least movement). You mentioned many good ideas, I'm going to try compression socks and a 1-liter bottle of water! Safe travels everyone 😊
consider a small tube of nose gel. My nose gets really dry and sometimes will bleed if I forget my gel on these ultra long haul flights. Yes compression socks really help. Use your carryon as a foot rest once in the air.
I'm the weirdo who likes the middle seat 😆 I only have to ask one person to move if I have to use the bathroom, and only one person needs to ask me. Bathroom anxiety is real haha
Great video! Can I share Seat etiquette: since the window person has the luxury of the window support to lean on and the aisle person has the luxury of a little more elbow room. It is customary for the middle aisle person to get both arm rests. Can we spread the word? 😌. Ty for your tips! and
All your tips are on point, from someone who loves traveling but absolutely hates planes and long haul flights 😅 Can't sleep on a plane and I get very severe motion sickness, I spend my entire flights feeling sick and horrible 😫🤣
@@tanyadonald149 yes but it makes me sooo drowsy I can't do anything for multiple hours after taking it 🤣 and the non-drowsy ones don't always work for me :( But thanks for the recommendation :)
For the aisle seat folks - if the plane is a 3 - 4 - 3 seat configuration choose the aisle seats in the middle row that has four seats. That way most likely only one person will have to climb over you to go to the bathroom. With the 3 seat row on the sides there will be 2 people that need to disturb you or twice as often . Window seats allow you to rest your head on the wall. As far as choosing a window seat for the view, the view looks the same with mostly clouds for about 90 % of the trip. At night, there is almost nothing to look at except for the short departure and landing phase of the trip.
Lots of good tips here. Thank you. I also bring beef chomps as a snack: easy, tasty, and lightweight. I’m planning my trip to Southern France from California this summer of 2024. Wish me luck.
I do embroidery, English paper piecing, and hand applique both in the car and on airplanes. My daughter crochets. No knitting because the needles are pointed.
Oh by the way , I purchased the magnetic hooks for my cruise and it worked. All my hats were hung on the walls. Just so cool! Thanks Dana …you’re so awesome!
Flown BNE to HRW numerous times and don’t always book a stopover. 21 plus hours, 8 or 9 to Thai, Singapore etc then 12 or 13 to London. Don’t care for water much but do like wine and beer, always eat what they serve, rarely had a meal I hated. I’m not a good traveler so sleep as long as possible as I can’t watch the screen or read I get sick 😢 wasn’t so bad when they had drop-down screens that were a distance away.
Yep, I know about not usually wanting to be close to the restroom, but I thought it’d be good to be near it for this trip because our son is still young and probably needs to go a lot, and he doesn’t give much warning before he’s like I have to go now. There are also three of us, so it’s nice that we can have one row together. We are going to Taiwan.
I have to go pee often so I always try to get an aisle seat towards the back of the plane. Flying from the US to Japan or Incheon Korea usually takes 14 to 16 hours so I’m either sleeping or watching all of the movies. The very first time I flew internationally, I was given a middle seat in the center row. That was a terrible time because the people to my left and right both took sleeping pills and I could not wake them to go use the restroom. I normally wear a polo shirt, cargo pants and wear light jacket because it gets cold even with the blanket they give you; if I get cold I either zip it up or flip it around and use it as another blanket.
Ditto. Only book aisle seats for flights. Flying to Vietnam in two months. Flight from Toronto to Seoul and then Seoul to DaNang. With layover, that's almost 24 hrs. Quick walks during the flight helps my blood flow and enjoy extra snacks usually kept at the back of the plane.
I consider 8 hrs long haul and 12+ to be ultra long haul. I guess it all depends on where you travel to most often. I used to get a little squirly on any flight over 4 hrs now that we travel to Australia from Toronto, long flights have a totally differnet meaning.
I understand liking the aisle but I constantly get bumped with either the cart or other passengers which is annoying when asleep. It never fails that I get woke up as nudged.
Just came back from Morocco, and the longest leg, 10 hours, was Madrid to Dallas. Watching 5 movies with my Apple headphones kept me sane, because they cancel more outside noise than the airline provides headphones. I survived, but now I wanna do a 13+ to get to Asia, and just the thought makes me wanna cry. Another tip was we stayed the night in a Spain airport terminal hotel, to break up the continuous flights, that way our longest leg was the first one of the day.
Middle seat in the center bulkhead row, you don't need to get up when the people next to you need to get up, you have a ton of leg room and a good chance that no one will book a seat next to you.
The best way to deal with a long haul flight is to get to the airport early to enjoy the lounge for a couple hours and make sure you book into business class lay flat seat. You can avoid the middle seat as there are none in business and first.
Here is something different bring your own cloth dinner napkins , drape them over the airplane seat back table..create a picnic type atmosphere by bringing a very nice meal or cheese tray crackers in a small container..get some cheap plastic wine glasses (allowed by TSA)even if your not drinking wine served on the LH flights it makes any beverage look better than the plastic cups the airlines hand out .get some nice take away utensils from one of the many restaurants or airport lounges after clearing TSA.bring an orange, the aroma from the orange once your either slice or peel it adds such a fresh scent around the area your sitting in. Traveling alone or with someone makes this fun. Pull put your laptop ,tablet or pad/ pen. Write your autobiography or think tank some ideas.. it's stated that flying creates an amazing ability to think because of the altitude.
I’m a very frequent flier, as far as seat selection goes it’s easy…. Make sure you’re the absolute last person to board the plane… unless it’s a full flight… then just scan the aisles and pick a seat you like.
Cambodia is my next trip. 15 hrs to Doha and then another 8 to Cambodia. I have never fallen asleep on a plane before so I am going to talk to my doctor about this one. I'm thrilled to be going, but it feels very daunting.
@@DanaBerez update: no one was in the middle seat for both flights! Thank you for this tip!! Seriously saved my sanity being able to lay down in economy! Xo
I will be traveling from Ft Lauderdale to New Zealand and then home from Australia. Thanks for the tips. Bought the Chomps today and we really liked them.
I love sitting near the window seat, but also I just have this sinking feeling when I’m leaving for Paris in four weeks but I probably have to sit probably in like the middle seat
I'll be flying London to Tokyo. I'll be stopping in Poland to stretch a bit so my long-haul will be Warsaw to Tokyo. My main concern is, I'll be in Poland for 9 hours (possibly not as long, I have NEVER been on a flight from London Heathrow that left on time). With 9 hours, I wanna leave the airport (if nothing else, it's a chance to walk before my long flight). I'm just not sure when to be back. I am hoping 4 hours would be enough, I don't have to checkin or anything but obviously I need security and whatever
Cannot recommend Cabeau neck pillows enough - they are brilliant - do not push your head forward, they connect to headrest to keep headsupported and comfy and they roll up pretty small.
My first international flight is coming up soon. I got Memphis/Philadelphia/Doha/Bangkok starting out. Then Chiang Rai/Bangkok/Doha/Chicago/Memphis on the way back. The longest I've ever been on a flight was 4 or 5 hours. I don't fly often so here I am!
Thanks for the comment! Well I do hope that you found some helpful tips. Your journey will be quite the long one, so just buckle up and enjoy the ride.
Really love all of your tips! I'm planning on going to Japan at the end of this year, so I will definitely bring some snacks, wear comfortable clothes maybe bring some comfortable slippers. Thanks! Do you have experience with flights to Japan or Asia and which one do you recommend when it comes to comfort?
It's pretty much impossible to try and fall asleep until they serve the main meal and turn down the lights. That's the only time it's going to be somewhat quiet. For me, that's usually 2-3 hours into the flight. Then I get about 3 hours of quiet before the lights come back on, serve a snack and they prepare the cabin for landing. That's typical in my experience, going from the east coast USA to Paris. Air travel pretty much is the worst, with everything involved.
Flying upper class next week uk to florida and for some reason im so looking forward to it . If it was economy id be dreading it. Its going to be amazing.
When I fly, I make myself vegan sushi with quinoa, they are bite size, dont need a fridge and they are so filling. I complement with some dried mangoes or other dried fruit.
I’m flying from Richmond, VA to London at the end of May. Traveling with my daughter and 7 month old grandson. First time traveling with a baby. Wish us luck….hopefully we don’t anger everyone on the flight. Doing the red eye so he will more likely sleep through most of the flight.
Good thought. I learned early on to take what’s offered to you any time it’s offered especially snacks because you can save them for later and not have to have the flight attendant make an extra trip.
The main thing is noise cancelling. GOOD noise cancelling, the best result achievable with professional aviation headset, total cutoff for engine noise, crying babies, loud announcements and so on, as bonus - cabin crews do know this thing, their pilots wear the same, and do not disturb the whole flight with anything. All other ways almost always cause headache after 13h in roaring plane. best seat in 3-4-3 plane is aisle seat in middle - 4 or 7. Access to aisle any moment + only 1 pax (or 0 if you are lucky) to climb thru you. Neck pillow does not work as it has no side support. The best (but still not ideal) solution is face pillow, inflatable cube to place on laps and lay head straight ahead. Arrive early - NEVER! You already have 20-30h of travel ahead, to add 2 more is very costly. Of course if you have doubts they do everything in time - yes, its unavoidable.
Got a 24 hour flight coming up in 3 weeks then 1 week afte that another 24 hour flight lol 16 hours 1 way then a transfer for another 6 hours flight with 2 hour layover .... Fun times 😞
Going on my honeymoon this April, going from JFK to Dubai connecting to Maldives then connecting by seaplane to the island, total flight time is estimated at around 19-20 hrs. 12.5 to Dubai, 6.5 to maldives and then 45 min to maldives. I'm very nervous as I've never flown more than 3-5 hrs and even those flights fell endless, I have a hard time sleeping on flights
going to Oregon next month and I live in Florida. That will we a LONG flight bc there isn't a great way to get there. In October we are heading to Switzerland and it is a long flight over and even longer on the return.
I'm going to Paris, France in August. I actually have one layover in Montreal because it's Air Canada I like Layovers because usually by the second half of the trip I'm get my anxious also I tend to bloat really badly on a plane. So i have to pack like antihistamine that kind of makes me go to sleep on top my food allergy to olives, the alternative would be lemon balm because it doesn't make me feel drowsy, ashwagandha for stress and my bloat, maxi strength gas medicine and fiber pills. It's good to bring some sugar free hard candy.
I’ve only flown once and don’t remember it much. I’m flying Ohio to Alaska. Are you able to bring your own water bottle through TSA? i want to bring my own bottle of water but just not sure how to go about it?
I don’t mind a middle seat. I am 5’ tall and have worked very hard to become healthy and in a right sized body. So I fit perfectly in an airplane seat 😂. And I like only having to bother one person when I have to use the restroom. When I was younger, I absolutely loved having the window seat but I rarely had to get up and use the restroom. I’m flying to Barcelona in four days. I think I’ll try the time shifter app as I’ve never heard of that before. Thanks for all your tips. I appreciate them them.
Unfortunately a male in his sixties requires frequent bathroom breaks which absolutely mandates an aisle seat. However, was that not the case I would have parked myself in the middle of the middle seats where I shall establish my own kingdom isolated behind noise-cancelling headphones and a sleep mask without any intrusion for the duration of the flight. I am a firm believer in having an entire series available to view on a long-haul flight.

5 hours is a shortish flight to me 😂 we’re in Australia so to fly to Europe for instance it’s anywhere from 15 hrs to 24!
Australia is in the middle of the ocean far away from anything 😅 of course it’s going to take you long
I consider 8 hrs long haul and 12+ to be ultra long haul. I guess it all depends on where you travel to most often. I used to get a little squirly on any flight over 4 hrs now that we travel to Australia from Toronto, long flights have a totally differnet meaning.
Yup just like you…hard core aisle seat girl. Great video Dana
Thanks Cynthia! Yes,aisle all the way!
So thankful I found your chanel! Love your tips ❤
I totally love this picnic idea!!! I'm doing it!!! a little cheese board and some plastic wine glasses, yes!!!
I’m a very frequent flier, as far as seat selection goes it’s easy…. Make sure you’re the absolute last person to board the plane… unless it’s a full flight… then just scan the aisles and pick a seat you like.
I’m going from California to Greece next week. Loved so many of these ideas. But as a retired flight attendant I’m pretty prepared.
Good for you!
Long flights are the best time to edit videos! Thanks for this video
Yes they are!
Cambodia is my next trip. 15 hrs to Doha and then another 8 to Cambodia. I have never fallen asleep on a plane before so I am going to talk to my doctor about this one. I'm thrilled to be going, but it feels very daunting.
I recommend a good eye mask, earplugs like Loops and definitely a Cabeau neck pillow.
Heading to Sydney from LAX next week & my fiance and I did the seat gamble when booking - hoping the middle stays open for us!
Good luck!!
@@DanaBerez update: no one was in the middle seat for both flights! Thank you for this tip!! Seriously saved my sanity being able to lay down in economy! Xo
@@jessgetsmarried Good for you!!!
I will be traveling from Ft Lauderdale to New Zealand and then home from Australia. Thanks for the tips. Bought the Chomps today and we really liked them.
Love the ideas! I’m flying from Pittsburgh to Detroit, to Amsterdam, to Istanbul!😅
Going to Israel from Texas in early September. Last summer I went to Switzerland. I am not a newbie, so your tips were a refresher for me.
Cannot recommend Cabeau neck pillows enough - they are brilliant - do not push your head forward, they connect to headrest to keep headsupported and comfy and they roll
up pretty small.
im going from Boston to Hethrow (London) in september. nervous to do the window/aisle seat trick as most flights ive been on recently were PACKED!
Wise advice to wear compression socks! Thank you for the reminder.
You are so welcome!
I'll be traveling more with my new job so these tips are much appreciated! Going to Anaheim next from STL.
Helpful. We’re heading to South Africa from Oregon soon, 30 hours of travel. 😟
Safe travels!!
How was it?! I’m flying from San Diego to Malawi, Africa but have a layover in London and South Africa. 30 hr travel too. So excited yet nervous
Going to Oahu from Boston in November. We'll see how it goes. I'll take advantage of some of your tips. We di pay more for extra leg room.
I'm off to the UK ad Paris in just over a week. I didn't want to pay the high price to choose a seat, so I just hope I get an aisle seat.
I’m flying to Amsterdam from San Antonio, Texas in 10 days. Thanks for the vid!
Have fun!
I have a 7 hour flight followed by a 14 hour flight this summer, can't wait 😅
Wow, that’s longer than us. We’re going to Taiwan.
@@marty0063 Australia for me
Really love all of your tips! I'm planning on going to Japan at the end of this year, so I will definitely bring some snacks, wear comfortable clothes maybe bring some comfortable slippers. Thanks! Do you have experience with flights to Japan or Asia and which one do you recommend when it comes to comfort?
ANA. Also most on time I have ever seen.
Thanks girl. Leaving for Rome in a couple weeks from the East coast. Good tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Have fun!
When I fly, I make myself vegan sushi with quinoa, they are bite size, dont need a fridge and they are so filling. I complement with some dried mangoes or other dried fruit.
Great tip!
Global entry card cuts down on customs line back to the US, worth the money🎉
Yes, I love mine and will always renew!
I’m flying from Richmond, VA to London at the end of May. Traveling with my daughter and 7 month old grandson. First time traveling with a baby. Wish us luck….hopefully we don’t anger everyone on the flight. Doing the red eye so he will more likely sleep through most of the flight.
Im already practicing all that has been mentioned in this blog. Thanks.
Excellent! Keep it up
You are blessed, and I love your videos.
You are so kind
International flights, you can ask for more food if your meal don't fill you. There is usually extra and they just throw it away after they land.
Yes, you can there can also be not enough. I have experienced both instances but it is always worth asking.
Flying to Germany from Washington, DC - Have never flown to Europe before. Longest flight ever was 6 hrs. A little nervous about flying and jet lag.
Boston to Bali via Doha Qatar. Eight hour layover there.
I dont like.doha airport.
I love the middle seat of I’m in between family because shoulders = 2 headrests 😂
Then you won the jackpot in that case!
Got a 24 hour flight coming up in 3 weeks then 1 week afte that another 24 hour flight lol
16 hours 1 way then a transfer for another 6 hours flight with 2 hour layover ....
Fun times 😞
How'd it all go?😮
USA TO Fiji - 12 hours. I slept for one whole week ,doing nothing and just sleeping. hectic summer in the US!
Super helpful! Thank you. I am new to your channel and was just wondering who Al is to you?
Going on my honeymoon this April, going from JFK to Dubai connecting to Maldives then connecting by seaplane to the island, total flight time is estimated at around 19-20 hrs. 12.5 to Dubai, 6.5 to maldives and then 45 min to maldives. I'm very nervous as I've never flown more than 3-5 hrs and even those flights fell endless, I have a hard time sleeping on flights
Where can I purchase the hoodie you are wearing in this video?

Love that you’re a fellow crime junky! 😅
Yes I am!!! ❤️
Going to Rome in June!
Have the best trip and stay cool!
I book middle seats. All the time. I optimize for front of plane. So whatever seat is closest to the front, I’ll take it.
going to Oregon next month and I live in Florida. That will we a LONG flight bc there isn't a great way to get there. In October we are heading to Switzerland and it is a long flight over and even longer on the return.
Good tip about the noise . I thought I'd watch a movie but the ambient noise was just too much.
12:05 I can't sleep before a trip. I go to bed at 1am and wake up at 4am, and only get a full night's sleep when I get to my destination.
I like middle seats because i personally don’t like windows cuz they kinda scared me ngl and IL seats are ok
Thanks for sharing!
LA to NY is longISH. Cheers from Asia. It takes us 16 hours to NY.
Thanks for sharing! That is quite the journey the longest flight I have take is from NYC to Qatar
I’ve only flown once and don’t remember it much. I’m flying Ohio to Alaska. Are you able to bring your own water bottle through TSA? i want to bring my own bottle of water but just not sure how to go about it?
You can bring your own empty water bottle. It cannot contain any liquid in it when passing through security. You can refill it once you pass security.
I’m flying Saturday September 9th from Nebraska to Manchester, England
24 hour flight from London to Sydney - survival technique is noise cancelling headphones! Have tried it twice and my head wasn't throbbing.
Yes! Great tip!
Thanks for the tips. International flights are just so difficult, long and boring . 😅
Yes they are!
I need the outside seat because I have military disabilities and it’s hard for me to keep my legs bent for a long period of time
Great tips! Thank you! ❤️
You are so welcome!
San Diego to Africa next month! 30 hour travel time 😅😬
We have a redeye from NY to Paris. Do they feed us on that?
I'm travelling to seattle from the uk in sept then from seattle to philly. I have to flown for over 10yrs so should ne an experience:)
Safe travels!!
I like to take Emerge C packages while flying since the air is recirculated and keeps me from getting sick
I organize my mp3, videos and my laptop data while on flight.. this way if there is no internet i have saved my offline work during flight time...
Flying to Italy this fall!
I am dreading falling asleep on the long haul flight I'm going on for fear that I'll snore. I'm u sure of a neck pillow will help
