    I'd recommend if you get dry eyes a lot and wear contacts, but don't want to screw around with eye drops on a flight, wear glasses and pack the contacts.

    • @AlexgoesCoconuts
      @AlexgoesCoconuts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree , you can bring glasses and skip the contact lenses during your flight, however you should still carry your contacts in your carry on bag in case they loose or misplace your luggage. And If you are packing everything in a carry on bag, you need to put your contact solution in your 3-1-1 liquids bag.

    Alex... Respectfully... You "missed" something... I'm a 5+ Mile Miler flyer (TV producer) with 6-8 international longhaul flights each year and I decided, before an upcoming trip to Australia, that I would survey some of TH-cam's "travel experts" suggestions and I am stunned that I have not seen any "travel expert" offer this advice and this is so simple to implement... BRING A PILLOWCASE... And if you are flying in a window seat and have brought with you any kind of jacket, toss the jacket into the pillowcase and... Voila... You will have a much more comfortable headrest... (If you're flying during cooler months and have brought with you a down jacket, you will have a VERY comfortable pillow, in fact.) And when you get to your destination you can use your pillowcase to help separate used clothing (socks, etc) from your fresh clothes... We ALL sleep with a pillow at home and while the "yoke" headrest you describe here works, if you are at home would you rather sleep wearing that yoke or rest your head on a pillow? (Again, I'm describing sitting in a window seat, for a middle seat or an aisle seat, your yoke headrest is better than nothing...) I've flown for 40 years and I have never seen anyone (other than myself) use a pillowcase in this fashion. I don't get it? Why not do this?

    Great tips! I also travel extensively all over the world. Just returned from a long haul 15.5 hr flight. As mentioned in others comments - make sure to check the carryon restrictions of the airlines you will traveling on. Some have very strict size and weight restrictions. I personally travel with a small makeup size bag to hold everything I need for the flight in my backpack that I take out and tuck on the side of my seat. Eye mask, lip balm, wipes, earplugs, ginger chews, gum, travel toothbrush and toothpaste, earbuds, a small snack, etc. It allows me to not have a backpack on the floor and have more leg room. I put my flight essentials bag and my charged mini iPad in a ziplock that I pull out before sitting down. Most times I can put my backpack and carryon in top bin.

      Whichever one is your “personal item” should go under your seat. Hogging the overhead bin with personal items means someone else will have to gate check their carryon bag. Be considerate.

    Love it! I use essential oils but not on a plane. My friend is allergic to mint. And my husband HATES the smell of essential oils. I try to be mindful of scents in a small space.

    • @AlexgoesCoconuts
      @AlexgoesCoconuts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, that is something I didn't think about. I don't really use essential oils often. I only pull out the peppermint if I have a horrible migraine and use very little on my temples. Of course if someone is seated next to me, I am even more mindful. Thanks for sharing. It is definitely something that I will think about next time I travel.

    I carry a roll of doggie bags in carry one bag as well as in my auto too! One roll is less than one inch and slides into a make-up bag or glass case. When used for doggie walking to pick up poop, they appear very small, but for people items, they’re surprisingly generous in size when paper or plastic is smushed together inside. Some doggies bags may even be cute having stripes or other patterns. A dollar store may carry them too!

      Actually it doesn’t have to be fully charged. I think the rule is at least 30% charged but still, all devices have to be able to turn on if the security officers asks. They want to make sure the device is not a compartment to hide something suspicious. Thank you for your positive feedback and thanks for watching. I appreciate it 😊

      @@AlexgoesCoconuts Very true! I have a co-worker whose laptop ran out of battery. When he went through airport security, he was one who was selected to start up his laptop but could not. They made him go in a room to the side, plug in his laptop, and start it up that way. He didn't miss his flight but spent a lot of unplanned time with TSA.
      I've had to start up my laptop at TSA but honestly have not had to do that for years. I wasn't even sure they still did that.

  • @morpheuszzz662
    @morpheuszzz662 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    You travel like I do! Normally people push the hard-sided carry-on cases then talk about sneaking extra stuff on board. Yes, they look cool and make traveling through the airport easier. Like you, however, I prefer to use a duffel bag in flight so everything is right in front of me. I've had great luck with the duffel that Rick Steves sells. It looks similar to yours but has extra pockets on the outside. I like that I rarely even have to put it on my lap to retrieve what I need. I know where things are stored and can easily access through the outside pockets items are in or in the travel pouches like you use.
    I also use an oversized scarf as a blanket, but mine has pockets on the bottom ends which I use to hold my phone and earbuds case, etc. Handy if I fall asleep while listening to a book. Along with non-liquid OTC medical supplies like Tylenol, Pepto Bismol, etc., I carry hard ginger candies just in case I get motion sickness. Problems are rare but they can happen and I'd rather be prepared than embarrassed and/or miserable.
    I also pack a pair of "Fitkicks" which are rubber soled stretchy slipper shoes. Very comfortable and take almost no room in a bag because they are completely flat. I then use a carabiner to attach my regular shoes to my duffel so they don't get lost under the seat somewhere. I agree about carrying the water mister to spray on your face, especially on long flights. It's amazing how much that really helps! I also use either ziplocs for garbage or a roll of those pet waste bags, which were very helpful when my kids were little. So many messes could be tied up and either handed over to the flight attendants without being too gross or just carried off the plane myself.
    Thanks for your effort in making this video and for all the great tips.

    A couple of other ideas that I have are a thin pair of house shoes, that way you if you take your shoes off, you don't have to walk around barefoot, or have to put on your shoes every time you get up. For a winter destination, I highly recommend bringing a warm winter coat, a hat, gloves and a scarf. I personally would choose a winter coat that is very warm but lightweight for travel. You can find lots of options in hiking or ski stores. Here is an amazon link for one that could work: amzn.to/3BgbtVE (paid link). As for the plane ride, I usually carry my winter coat onto the plane to keep me warm during the flight. If not I store it in the overhead bin with my carry on luggage and grab it before leaving the plane. Hope that answers all your questions. Happy Travels!

    Could you not place your packed bag into a small suitcase so you don't have to carry it around the airport and then when you get on the plane just take the bag out of the little case and pop the case in the overhead. If you do have to put your case in the hold you could just remove your carry-on bag? Could you see any problems with doing that? Really hate carrying a large bag around an airport when I could wheel it in a small suitcase.

    • @AlexgoesCoconuts

    Great video but honestly and respectfully you should keep your passport on your person and not in your bag. They make those thin cloth money belt/ wallets that wrap around your waist and fit under your clothes. where you should keep your passport, large bills and credit card. People steal bags all the time and there are professional pick pockets, even on planes. Just because you keep your bag close doesn't mean it can't be stolen or lost. Losing a passport will ruin your trip and now someone has your Identity. Only put your passport in your bag, if you are in a trusted residence . Not a hotel, hostel, plane, bus, train, Taxi etc... American Passports are highly sought after by thieves.

    • @AlexgoesCoconuts

Just a question, if the airline carry-on baggage limit is 8kg and you have a carry-on luggage and a personal hand bag, do they weigh both of those and add it, or only the carry-on luggage will be weighed and not the handbag? And is there a weight limit to the handbag?

    • @AlexgoesCoconuts
      @AlexgoesCoconuts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have an Air France flight soon and they have a weight limit for your carryon suitcase/hand baggage plus personal item combined. That said I’ve never had my personal item weighed but twice I’ve had staff come through the waiting area pre flight and weigh carryon suitcases with with a hand held scale and made people gate check bags that were too heavy.

      @@DrezdanyWildlife I just checked with United, and they have NO weight limit, although they have very detailed measurements for carryons and personal items. If traveling internationally check for size and weight limits for checked bags, carry-ons and personal items. If you go over on weight or size, a hefty fee is charged. Some duffles are sized to be personal items, stored under-seat, but this duffel would possibly not be under 10kg and is too large for many international flights. Do your homework!
