    I always try and think of going to the airport as the start of my holiday, so making sure I have plenty of time to get there, even if it means being early, just gets me into the holiday mindset. I can take my time getting through security and start to relax, without having to rush and panic that i'm going to miss the plane!

    The other thing people need to keep in mind when you're wearing clothes on a flight is that yes there are 200 300 people on your flight and if you're on an international flight there can be upwards to 600 people everyone has control over their own air flow. If 300 people on an airplane all turn their AC valve above their head on and the plane is going to hundred miles an hour your plane is going to feel like an igloo in about 10 minutes. It's the exact same concept when your car cools off faster because you're driving faster...

  • @keirayau2111
    @keirayau2111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Point three (do not wear tank top and/or shorts) could be right in most cases but you will never know the temperature. When I flew from Thailand to Hong Kong with Air Asia, the plane barely had AC and everyone suffered in heat. I was glad that I wore a tank top. My tips to this point is that wear layers for your upper body!

    A good time for flying, if you bring a bag of anything, either make a small hole or open the bag before you take off. My last flight to another state, while we were still rising, I had a bag of chips at my feet and the bag slowly inflated! I was panicking because I didn't it to make a large popping sound, because we know that any sorta loud noise is not only frown upon, but also incredibly risky when it comes to security. That bag of chips could have easily ruined my entire flight home.

Not only that but my dad had 1 checked bag and the people in front of us had like 7 members to their party and like ALL of their bags got checked and so we had wait an insanely amount of time. Luckily we got there 2 hours early and we only had about 15 spare minutes. Let that be a lesson to you all. ALWAYS GET THERE 2 HOURS EARLY

    If you travel to Europe keep control of when you are entering the Shengen area and make sure you pass passportcheck as soon as you land to be on the correct side for your connecting flight, the ques are likely to be looong, the same when you are leaving Europe when it´s likely that the "outside" has less service, make sure to exit directly.

      @GlobalAdventurer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      iamkellij While you wait for Lindsay to make a video about this subject, I thought I would contribute some information.
      If you haven't already, go to Google Flights and explore flights leaving a major city near you under the "explore" tab on Google flights. It will list some really cheap flights to random locations you probably haven't thought about. Which will give you a cheap starting point to get over the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean at least (if you're in the USA). And from that location you can make further plans to build on the trip making it inexpensive.
      There are many round trip international tickets for well under $500.00, like on Norweigan and WOW airlines for example. Some are even $350 RT.
      Sometimes, you have to go out of your way literally to find a great bargain and travel cheap.
      Good luck.

    You say not to use the seat back pockets so you don’t forget something. I’ll give you a better reason not to use them. Studies have shown they are almost as dirty as the toilet seat in the lavatory. Basically, it’s a contaminated Petrie dish, and so is the table. Take Clorox wipes and clean the table, and don’t use the seat back pocket at all. Also, as a frequent international traveler, getting Gloval Entry is THE BEST thing I ever did!

    • @happybubblecakes
      @happybubblecakes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I throw everything I need into a large drawstring bag or plastic bag and use it to contain my stuff in the seat pockets, so I don't actually reach into the seat pockets themselves. I either throw away the plastic bag or wipe down the drawstring bag with alcohol wipes after that. That bag is only used for seat pockets hahaha.

    My fav snack to bring on the plane is freeze dried snake bags from thrive there super good in small separate bags that fit nice in a backpack also they last a really really long time like 20 something years so if you pack more of them for your flight back home and me as a 13 year old that didn’t think fruit and carrots would be good they were amazing and you can get yogurt bites and ask for water and make yogurt fast and there is granola witch I just eat out of the bag but it is good on the yogurt to it’s a nice easy way to take healthy food on a plane and it is one of my essentials

    I agreed with most of the video, except the part about not wearing skirts or dresses on planes. I have a lot of dresses and skirts that are really comfy and are often my go-to choice, when I want to be comfy and look nice at the same time. That said, I most of them are at least knee length, and if they aren't, I wear them with leggings to keep my legs from freezing.

    Been flying since I was 6 months... Every year lol. However, 300+ flights later, ADHD and the ever changing rules and ahem, aging, it always is great to watch these videos before flying.
    And omg! Yes! Dressing up... Shorts? If i feel dressy? Haha, i wear larer than usual jeans, and a niceer sweater or sweatshirt.
    Note:about sodium. I actually need to increase mine or take a medication that increases my sodium (POTS. it also involves compression stockings and abdominal binders XD)

    When you're in a flight, the air in the cabin can be really dry. That's why it's not recommended to drink soda or alcohol because these beverages will dehydrate you quicker than other beverages.
    I also prefer to pack dry snacks like biscuits or cookies because I think some airports don't allow fresh fruits into the flight.
    I've never heard about Global Entry before this so I guess this is for the U.S. only?
    And finally... yes to carry on!

      Yup. Only long-haul planes I drink on (and only if it's to relax my nerves against a crying baby--damn traveling families unless they're immigrating) are the A350 and 787 (and eventually 777X). The reasons being they are way higher pressure (7000ft instead of 10000) and higher cabin humidity (I think it's almost 55%).

    here's another tip; when traveling with elderly relatives or friends, make sure to request wheel chair access. You get pushed through the front of the security checkpoint quickly, and you get to actually get a break from carrying their stuff.

    Normally I always argue against soda but I do have to point out that if you get motion sickness and forget Dramamine then drinking a clear soda (something like sprite) can help settle your stomach. You don’t need a lot! Just sip on one of those little cups they give you alongside a glass of water to stay hydrated

    Valerian root is also good for sleep. I learned about it after learning i cant take melatonin without getting migraines the following morning.

    • @leftysrightwich7627
      @leftysrightwich7627 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Valerian is the herbal form of Valium. I believe Valium's origins were from Valerian. The cool thing with Valerian is that it is usually safer with far less side effects than Valium has, most notably the lack of "Valium hangover" the next day. You can either take it by capsule/pill or in delicious tea forms available in almost any grocery store and certainly at tea or health food stores.

    Any advice on how to make sure you don't miss international flight connections? This is the only thing that has ever REALLY stressed me out about traveling

    • @lindsaymccormick9607
      @lindsaymccormick9607  7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Don't book flights with too tight of a layover and be sure that you book your two flights from the same airline (like one big flight) because if you miss your connection, they will just rebook you at no cost.

    • @westwindsailer
      @westwindsailer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      also book seats closer to the front of the aircraft. might have to pay more BUT if your in the back of the bus on a large aircraft......that ten minutes extra to disenbark could mean the difference.

      Download the app of which ever major airport you are arriving/departing from...then before you go on the flight make sure you know exactly which terminal you come out of and which you arrive at. This + the app will help you map out exactly where you need to go once you land, making it one efficient journey from terminal x to terminal y. The worst thing you could do is come unprepared and get yourself lost.
      Most carriers and booking sites will cover the layover, but if you’re still worried just purchase travel insurance (which will cover many other things as well. Just read the fine print).

      Frequent international traveler here. Try to leave at LEAST two hours between flights. 3 hours is even better. It’s better to have to sit in the airport for a little while than have to run to catch your connection.

    • @lanasa265
      @lanasa265 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Wandering Wife yep...good advice. I’ve seen flights where there is only 45 min in between flights... that would give me severe anxiety. Ideally I like to have 3 hours in between flights

    For sleep aids!!! If you get restless legs from Tylenol PM (or similar), like me, it's because the sleep aid is Diphenhydramine. Also, IF melatonin doesn't do jack diddly squat for you (like me as well)...I HIGHLY recommend getting a sleep aid with Doxylamine!!! I learned about the differences between the two when I was pregnant. Unisom Sleep Tabs are the most common sleep aid with Doxylamine, but places like Walgreens have a generic version. Start with 1/2 a tablet to see how it effects you.

    It might help to distinguish between "smaller carry-on" and larger carry-on by referring to the "smaller carry-on" as the "personal item". Airlines permit one personal item (handbag, tote, backpack, etc.) and one carry-on, e.g. luggage.
