How We Sleep Trained Our Babies - [Tips for sleep training]

  • My experience with both babies - first 13 minutes
    Tips for sleep training - starts at 13:14
    We first sleep trained my daughter around 7 months and we just sleep trained my baby boy at 5 months. Unfortunately I feel like sleep training is something we consistently have to do because it is so easy to develop bad habits & regress from our amazing sleep. I am not a baby sleep expert, honestly I'm not really an expert at anything, but I love helping people & I am honored to be a part of your life when it comes to this mom stuff. When I had my first baby I had no clue what I was doing but with my second it has been significantly easier because it's not all brand new. My hope in sharing these videos with you is that they'll help you along the way, and even if your mom style is totally different than mine I hope you are encouraged to know that if I can be a mom anyone can be one.. because I am totally out of my element here.
    Thank you so much for watching! Good luck mamas! Leave input & encouragement in the comments for each other! Love seeing the interactions on here :)
    See you on instagram!

    PSA: a lot of things she talks about in this video is really helpful for babies sleep! Pay attention to wake windows during the day so you know when they are ready for naps and you aren't waiting until they are crying to try and get them to nap because when they are overtired it is harder for them to not only fall asleep but stay asleep. Also, try soothing your baby for 5-10 minutes at night after there longest stretch of sleep BEFORE feeding them and if you do that every night you will slowly stretch there nighttime sleep. (Dont start this until after 4 weeks, and/or when your doctor is happy with there weight gain). And lastly, practice your baby falling asleep on there own! You can rock until drowsy and then place them down or at first put them down asleep and nudge them awake slightly so they fall back asleep on there own. (Usually this works best for the first nap of the day) and this is essential for them to sleep through the night when they are older.. do me a favor and give this a like if you actually read the whole thing so I know if I completely waisted my time typing this out or not 😂

    That's very similar to how we sleeptrained the twins. I needed my husband to stop me from going back into the room too soon, and to remind me that it never takes longer than 3 days to adjust to a new situation and be back on track with sleep. Next baby is due in a week or two. 😊

    Excellent advice! It seems like a lot of people just go full CIO at like 8 months because they didn’t do any sleep training prior and are losing their minds from lack of sleep by that time. I like your approach better - gradually removing night feedings as the baby gets older. Thank you so much!

    My 2 month old has been sleeping from 10pm- 7:30am *almost* every night. Since birth I have been super strict about his bed time and bedtime routine. I also make sure to keep things bright during the day and dark at night. I still nurse him at night if he were to wake up because he is too young to just let him cry but I feel like being so stringent with his nighttime routine has been the key to him sleeping through the night.

      manehbag lol A B was right 😭😭😭my little guy wakes up 1-2 x a night to eat now!!! Im so sad about it!! Plus he will wake up few more times for his pacifier on bad nights. However he does stay sleepy/ keeps his eyes closed all night which isn’t bad I guess. I just keep everything as dark as possible starting from bedtime and use white noise.. I will sing him the same song and massage him with Johnson’s Bedtime lotion. Then I put his pjs/ sleep sack on and nurse and rock to sleep. 🤷‍♀️ I feel like he still does pretty well t night for his age but definitely not as good as he used to!!!

    Thank you so much for your tips. Feeding was never our problem. My baby boy feeds the same time as yours but he is still waking up alllll the time. He had is sixth teeth at 7 month so he is really early, if he is not in a sleep regression is is teething, having a fever or is sick. We have maybe a few better days in between and then there is something else coming. Even if he falls asleep by his own he still wakes up all the time. It's really hard. I hope it's getting better very soon. Thank you so much for your video. I just love them.

    I started very early with sleep training so this is very interesting to listen to. Into a couple weeks when my son and daughter started to go longer at night in between feedings I would encourage it and by 6 weeks for both, they slept 7 hrs straight. My son is 3 months now and sleeps 10 hrs straight. Definitely agree that you need to make sure they are a good weight before you try training and both my kids grew and gained weight right on point. My son has an extra feeding time then my daughter who is 19 months old and but he likes to feed when she does which is cute. Loves his big sis. Maybe I come from a family of good sleepers....

    Hey! I love your videos btw! I have a question. You said with Elois you sleep trained her while she was still nursing. Did you just wean the night feeds cold turkey? Or did you slowly wean the night feeds for her? My baby is 4 months, but I plan to sleep train at 5 months, abs she still nurses about 2-3 times at night

    For us, night time schedule is not too bad(not weaned). Naps are a major mess. Unavoidable noisy environment isn't helping.
    Good to know that the 11:00 pm feed is your choice and not Wilson's. I've been debating the same situation regarding my son. It's a feed I can easily push farther, but that's the time most convenient for me...n will help me avoid having to get up for the next feed too soon after I go to bed. But I wasn't sure if it's ok to feed him just before I sleep, only because it suits me.

  • @jassamaynawes7270

    I started with naps as well, i let my little one cry it out for a bit. It took a good amount of time the first day but drastically decreased every time until now she just goes down. It helped with nighttime for sure. We had to move her from breast to bottle about a month and a half earlier because of extreme weight issues that we caught just in time for it not to permanently affect her. So with her being bottle fed it was probably easier for her, i just would go in a pop her bottle in her mouth. Now we've slowly moved to water and now is just binky. She is just now at 9 months sleeping through the night.

    • @Msinai07

      Ya they're crying less because they've learned no one will come if they cry. You're teaching mistrust and suspicion of others unfortunately

    • @jassamaynawes7270
      @jassamaynawes7270 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Msinai07 not true, they're crying less because they know when they're in bed its time to sleep. My child trusts me. She also is falling asleep right away when i set her in bed, whereas she was fighting her sleep every night, so I'd choose my battle. Not liking hearing my child cry for a bit while watching them on a camera for a day or 2 with great results or my child never sleeping..... i prefer the first. Honestly if you cant handle sleep training dont do it, but my child did great with it and shes a sweet little 9 month old, but dont go shaming others for your opinions.... thanks ❤❤

    • @ayanabenjamin376
      @ayanabenjamin376 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Msinai07 Babies wake up asking to be nursed out of habit even after their bodies don't need it. As very young babies, they cannot get enough nutrition with just day feeds. Their digestive system is not developed yet. Around 4-5 months,they are ready, physically, to be weaned of night feeds. I cannot train the strict/harsh way either. It feels cruel to me. But I cannot agree that babies shouldn't be sleep trained at all.

    • @jassamaynawes7270

      @@ayanabenjamin376 it's totally fine to feel like you can't handle sleep training, what's wrong is when people go around mom shaming for it.
