Did this with both my kids. My daughter was a hard nut to crack but by 12-15 months she was sleeping 10 hours just fine. Now she's 3 y 8 m and is still a great sleeper. My son is now 8 months and I went from co sleeping and waking every 2-4 hours for feeding to sleeping alone in his crib for 11 hours in just 2 days with this method. I’m honestly so so shocked. I already notice a huge difference in my 1 year old son. Let me just say a few things before anyone thinks I’m jumping the fence here lol: My son is FULLY breastfed. All throughout the day and all throughout the night. He wakes up about 4-6 times a night to breastfeed and throughout the day he is always following me around and BEGGING at my knees for a feed about every 1-2 hours. My milk production has kept up with his needs of breast milk. This method however has calmed him down about bedtime. After 2 times of doing the 10 minute intervals he’s quieted down quite a bit and has gone to sleep on his very own for the first time. Im IN LOVE with this method. Thanks so much for this helpful video!!!
Great, did he still get up to feed at night or sleep through the night by himself? My daughter doing same as him, always breastfeeding every 2 hours even at 7 months.

I just tried the "no cry" method and it made my baby worse. Hi there. Thank you for this video. A few quick questions: 1. If the baby is crying because of gripe or gas, do we pick the baby up or not to relieve them? 2. When we go in for the 2 or so minutes to let the baby know we are around, do we stay until the baby has calmed down or do we only stay for a couple of minutes and leave whether the baby has calmed down or not?
Hiscock led one of the few long-term studies on the topic. It's a randomized controlled trial - the gold standard in medical science - with more than 200 families. Blogs and parenting books often cite the study as "proof" that the cry-it-out method doesn't harm children. But if you look closely, you quickly see that the study doesn't actually test "cry it out." Instead, it tests two other gentler methods, including the camping out method.
Starting Ferber tonight at 8 months, I tried to start a month or so ago but couldn’t take the crying. Fingers crossed. I wished I started earlier because now he’s sitting up
We are room sharing and put up a curtain to divide our bedroom! Our little man now has his own space! We ordered it from amazon- large curtains that are mounted onto the ceiling! Worked so far. This is night two of sleep training and last night I had to sleep in our living room- I know it’s going to be short lived, and then I’ll go back in bedroom once he’s gotten a hang of his routine
This works! I needed to be emotionally ready for baby to cry but baby slept after three rounds on the first night and has slept after one round since then. It seems barbaric lol but it really isn’t. Take a long weekend and get the process started. I wish I started a month earlier. I did it at 5 and a half months.
But as a caveat- you can tell when your baby is in distress. The cry is a little different. I picked up baby and all he needed was a burp and he went down to sleep in a few minutes
How’s it going now? How’s your baby sleeping now? Mine is 5 and half now, and we’re on day 4. It has been working amazingly for us! Although by day 4 feels a little like torture (for us) to let her cry starting at 12 minutes. Although her crying doesn’t sound deep and emotional as the first night.
I worked in a day care using this method in a very distorted way. Putting babies to sleep for times during the day when they were not tired and not in consistency with the parents methods and leaving the babies crying for hours without checking. I do not like or believe in this method. I understand and do not judge the family who needs and want to use it. But it needs to be done the right way
Thank you for this informative video. I'm an epileptic with a four month old and the sleep deprivation has really messed with my seizure control. Our first two babies were great sleepers. This little man is ensuring he will always be the baby in the family, lol! Anyways, this video has given me more confidence starting this method. Wish me luck and thanks again!! :)

One thing they don't specifically address, only hint at,but i think it's key .... And what the touchy feely types don't get, is the newborn infant is in survival mode. Cries are their only means of communication. Between 4-6 months, babies start to recognize that "if i cry, they come." That's why this method is actually critical. And why the process works. It's the right balance of reassurance and "you're okay".
Hi! My baby is 5.5 months and for the last 2 nights Ive trying ferber but I chicken out after a couple of checks in as I can't cope with the crying... However I know I need to do it as my baby is waking minimum 5 times every night And I feed him to sleep every time😴😴
Hello friends. Can you write down short sleep training method here. Because I am from Uzbekistan and could not understand fully the language they are speaking. Please 🙏 please 🙏 🙏🙏🙏
My husband and I we’re desperate so we started this method 3 weeks ago with our 8 month old baby The first 2 nights were very hard, but the third night she cried just a little bit. Since the fourth night she is been waking up once. She doesn’t sleep the 10-12 hours in a row but at least she is not waking up every 2 hours as she used to do. Every night since we started the training I put her in the crib and she doesn’t cry and in about 10-15 min she finally falls a sleep. My husband and I were skeptical about this method but in our experience it worked out.
I think you misspoke at 6:57. From what I have read about Ferber, you do not restart the 3, 5, 10 time sequence throughout the night. It is 3,5,10 and then 10 onward for the rest of the night. Right?? Otherwise this is a great video and I was going to show it to my grandparents to get them on board but I think that error would throw them off.
Thank you for the video. This is great! What is your recommendation for diaper change? Because sometimes their diaper is full and it has to be changed.
How long to you continue the process of leaving and coming back before you pick the baby up and try again later? One hour, two hours or until they just finally fall asleep?
Thank you for the video. I'll have to start sleep training soon... I don't want to but my husband worries that I am not sleeping, and yes, he is getting all kinds of advice from his friends that I don't agree with. Maybe I'll give this method a try.
I give you permission to love your baby. Pick up and hold your baby. It’s instinctual and natural. Love them, sing to them, comfort them, be with them.♥️
Always change a dialer if it needs changing. No sleeping through the night worths diaoer rash that could really make a baby uncomfortable an uncooperative further on anyways.
Thankyou for this amazing video! A few questions ! We live in a small apartment and his crib is in our room. How would this method work? His bed time is at 8 pm. So for the first few hours we can leave the room as the video says to. But When we are already asleep in our bed, how would this work? ALSO, do we do the same for naps?
You stated to keep checking in until the baby’s falls asleep.. well what happens if the baby doesn’t fall asleep? Do you let the baby cry all night long and keep checking in until sunrise? At what point do the subsequent check ins should stop and know that the Ferber method is not working? I tried the Ferber method for 3 consecutive nights and my baby cried for 3.5+ hours until I gave in because apparently we’re supposed to “stop the check ins when the baby falls asleep”.
Great video, 2 questions for you guys: If the baby stands up and is well past that 6 month window how do you adjust the method? Also, if the baby is going through a period of intense separation anxiety and more intense crying when away from parents, is this method still advisable, or should the separation anxiety be sorted first?
Thanks for this video!!! Love your teamwork ! My son is 5 months and he still eats every 3 hours. Can I still do the ferber method and decrease his feedings gradually?
If they're a healthy weight and healthy otherwise, start! I've found overnight it's usually a comfort feed not always an actual hunger feed. Our boy is 5mths, 14.6lb, and he's done overnight before (4mth regression set us back). So we know he can do it, he's just looking for comfort now.
Ashley: Your Life, His Voice going to thru that now with my 4 month old, he would sleep 10 hours withal a feed and now he wakes up once of twice crying for 1 oz of comfort feed. 🤦♀️
Thank you for the information! We are looking into sleep training for our second baby. He generally sleeps pretty well at night but often wakes up and needs us to give him his pacifier in order for him to put himself back to sleep. Is that going to hinder the self soothe process? Also, how would we implement sleep training for naps? He only naps on us or in his swing (which I know is unsafe and I hate doing it!) so we really need to get him to nap in his crib! Any tips?
It kills me to imagine not feeding my baby throughout the night. He’s a chunky boy at 4.5 months so he’s not wasting away, but man I’m almost in tears just imagining it! Also not that you answer anyone’s amazing questions, but maybe someone will see my comment who has an idea.. my boy started teething at 3 months, he’s 4 months 3 weeks, & a week ago popped his 2nd tooth. He’s still going through a bit of the pain atm but slowly getting better as it makes its way through. Would I wait to start this method until they’re both fully through. First one is almost finished, maybe another week, and 2nd one would still have 3-4wks maybeee to fully come through. Thanks anyone who sees this 😂❤
This video is really informative - I am hoping to try this method so that we can have a consistent bed time. At the moment the baby only falls asleep when being cuddled.
When do you transition the baby into their own room? Does keeping them in your room (in their cot) make it harder for them to sleep and resettle by themselves ?
Thank you for this nice video. What's the order of moving baby to his room and sleep training him? Should I move my baby to his own room while sleep training or do one first and then start the other?
With our first baby, we kept her in our room while sleep training, then moved her to her own room. Now with baby no.2 , we started sleep training the same night we moved him to his own room. He took a bit longer to adjust to the training in comparison but still within the normal timeliness given. In hindsight, I would either do what we did with our first or move the baby to their own room first, let them adjust to that then start the training.
Hi, thank you for the great and simple guide. I have two questions though. Is it okey to put the baby down with pacifier? And my baby is four months and I swaddle him at night. Is it ok?
Love the video and am very excited to start once my son turns 4 mo. 2 quick questions that I haven’t seen answers to in the comments yet: 1. Do I absolutely have to stop night feedings or could I still feed once during the night, then put baby down awake and do Ferber again? Or do you recommend never feeding at night? 2. He’s sleeping in a SNOO in our room right now but we want to transition him to his crib in his room (door connections our bedroom) and sleep train at the same time ideally. Cold turkey. Would you recommend? THX so much, you guys are super sweet and reassuring!
I think it’s confusing for babies if sometimes you feed them when they wake up and sometimes you don’t. I would recommend stopping night feeds. And i would do naps in the crib for a few days before you sleep train to get him acquainted with the crib and then do the sleep training
Thank you for this video, my granddaughter is 7 1/2 months, I wish we had found this sooner, she seems to go the bed ok in the evening but its the naps that are so hard, do you recommend doing the same method for nap time? or Any recommendation would be greatly helpful. Thank you
Hi, Thank you so much for this video. Very helpful and insightful. Any recommendations for babies that will still cry through every interval including up to 15 or 20 minutes? Thank you
My daughter is 9.5 months and we had to start this method because it was no longer feasible to have irregular sleep. We are on the 8th night, and it is working. Our daughter is very persistent though...so right now it seems to be the "extinction burst" which basically is a huge tantrum before it actually settles down. But our night are much better. Will they cry? YES. Will it hurt your feelings? YES. Is it still worth it? YES. :)
Once the child is sleep trained with the Ferber method, will it hamper if a child's routine gets disturbed due to some unavoidable situations like travel or getting sick etc?
Amazing video! I have a question, we are moving in soon future, my baby is 4,5m old, and I wanna sleep train him. Should i do it already at our old place, or should I wait that we move, wait for him to get used to the new place and than start sleep training. He will be about 6months old than… is that too old for Ferbers method? 🙏🏽 I would very much appreciate your answer 🙏🏽
This video is awesome. Thank you🤍 My baby is eight month and I just started ferber method. It took 20 min first two nights and 10 min today. She fell asleep quick today so I didn’t bother to go check on her. Hope that’s okay. My question is should I remove paci completely during this process? and when she wakes up in the middle of the night do I continue without comforting her? I’m so nervous about this because we tried when she was six month but stopped because I felt guilty leaving her cry. So I hope it’s not too late😌

This is night two of sleep training and last night I had to sleep in our living room- I know it’s going to be short lived, and then I’ll go back in bedroom once he’s gotten a hang of his routine
We all sleep in the same bed. What do you recomend ?
Me reading this as my baby is 5.5 months old lol
Are sound machines ok?
Good luck!!!! And we use them :)
Hi! I’m so grateful for this video 🙏🏼 so confident about start sleep train. My baby is 5th… right in time. I’m resident doctor of internal medicine and my maternity leave is ending 💔 I just did the first night. We did it! Wish me luck 🙏🏼❤️thank you!
I absolutely love y’all’s approach and how you explain everything very simply and have a comforting attitude
must be nice to have a nanny and grandparents helping. wouldn't know anything about that
Can you provide references on these long term studies done on crying babies?
Yes, I would also like to see the references for this claim.
Thank you. This makes me feel so much better. Been wondering when to start sleep training and this is just perfect explanation. Thanks again xx
However I know I need to do it as my baby is waking minimum 5 times every night And I feed him to sleep every time😴😴
Hi! Thank you for the info! Can you please name the studies you are referring to? Or a link? Thanks!
Hello friends. Can you write down short sleep training method here. Because I am from Uzbekistan and could not understand fully the language they are speaking. Please 🙏 please 🙏 🙏🙏🙏
My husband and I we’re desperate so we started this method 3 weeks ago with our 8 month old baby
The first 2 nights were very hard, but the third night she cried just a little bit.
This worked great 36 years ago with my boys , it just didn’t have a name.
Do you recommend during the first night to implement the ferber method for every single wake up ?
I give you permission to love your baby. Pick up and hold your baby. It’s instinctual and natural. Love them, sing to them, comfort them, be with them.♥️
Can we do the sleep training with mother sleeping in the same room after baby falls asleep..
I’m doing it now! Seems to work. But I have a large curtain that divides his space from ours! It was less than $150!On Amazon
I needed this! Thank you so much!!!!!
You are lovely! Thank you for this information 🥰
When you go back in do you turn on the light? Also do you check for dirty diaper and change it if needs be?
I don’t think so!!! Sleeping thriugh the night usually means without any waking, diaper change or feed etc
M gonna do it tonight... thank you.
I’d like to see the studies that you’re referencing. 4:19
How about for an 18month old baby? The same applies? Thanks
Finally, great and to the point video!
Our baby sleep in our bedroom, what should we do when he cry in the meddle of the night?
What can I do for my baby who is 7.5 months? He keeps sitting up and will cry every time I lay him in the crib. Please help!
I am wondering the same!
Same question! Any pointers for this?
Wondering the same, has anyone heard anything more on this?
Me too
Please someone answer this question!
So AAP recommends baby sleep in the same room until 1 year. Can you do this in the same room as the parents?
Can you provide the research which is done Because of CIO? I am just curious for myself. I believe you ☺️
I had to research on how to put my baby to bed after suffering from back pains from rocking my 15 pounds 3 month old by to bed every now and then
Thank you this is really helpful to prepare sleep training.
This is amazing information, thank you both for sharing. We have a 3 month baby, and it’s a struggle to put her to sleep or put her to take a nap.
And then the same method you apply during the day naps right?
Great!! Thank you!
Any tips?
This is literally my life 🙄
Starting tomorrow with naps! Wish me luck 😢
Thank you very much. Super Helpful for First time moms like me. More videos about babies pls😊
What is the baby is already 8 months old. Is it not worth to give a try? What would you recommend.
Please do a video for sleep training a 1 year old
This was so helpful!! Do I do this with naps as well?
I love your video
This info and video was so refreshing 🙏🏽
Can you try this during nap times as well ?
Thank you for this nice video. What's the order of moving baby to his room and sleep training him? Should I move my baby to his own room while sleep training or do one first and then start the other?
With our first baby, we kept her in our room while sleep training, then moved her to her own room.
Now with baby no.2 , we started sleep training the same night we moved him to his own room. He took a bit longer to adjust to the training in comparison but still within the normal timeliness given.
In hindsight, I would either do what we did with our first or move the baby to their own room first, let them adjust to that then start the training.
Clear and concise information. Amazing!
Thank you for such an informative video. My baby is almost 5 months and I am up about 3/4 times a night to feed the baby.
I will hopefully try this :)
3 or 4 tyms seems like a blessing to me haha.. ours is 8-10 times + :/
Hello, I loved how you explained the method in the video. Will this method work on babies that are nursed to sleep? My baby just turned 5 months.
Hi, thank you for the great and simple guide. I have two questions though. Is it okey to put the baby down with pacifier? And my baby is four months and I swaddle him at night. Is it ok?
How do you do the Ferber method if babies crib is in the same room with your or it is in a shared sibling room?
Thank you
How about naps? Do you do this for naps also at the same time??
Is this method something you can do if you're room sharing?
When doing this method, does the same technique apply for naps? Or Do we still rock them?
Hi, Thank you so much for this video. Very helpful and insightful. Any recommendations for babies that will still cry through every interval including up to 15 or 20 minutes?
Thank you
Raimos Bakis I Wouk first like to know this too as my baby can cry for hours!
Maybe the baby is hungry? Maybe he's uncomfortable... Follow your instinct and adapt :)
Can we use Ferber method at 9 months ? And baby sleeps in the crib on the same room as parents. Does this work ?
Thanks
did you try this finally ? and did it work ?
My daughter is 9.5 months and we had to start this method because it was no longer feasible to have irregular sleep. We are on the 8th night, and it is working. Our daughter is very persistent though...so right now it seems to be the "extinction burst" which basically is a huge tantrum before it actually settles down. But our night are much better. Will they cry? YES. Will it hurt your feelings? YES. Is it still worth it? YES. :)
Can we use pacifier
Once the child is sleep trained with the Ferber method, will it hamper if a child's routine gets disturbed due to some unavoidable situations like travel or getting sick etc?
Amazing video!
I have a question, we are moving in soon future, my baby is 4,5m old, and I wanna sleep train him. Should i do it already at our old place, or should I wait that we move, wait for him to get used to the new place and than start sleep training. He will be about 6months old than… is that too old for Ferbers method? 🙏🏽
I would very much appreciate your answer 🙏🏽
This video is awesome. Thank you🤍
My baby is eight month and I just started ferber method.
Can I ask how it went for you? I’ve been putting sleep training off a lot because I hate hearing my son cry...
How can I train my 5 month old baby to sleep if he sleeps in my room (live in small apartment) any tips? thank you!
Helped big time,thanks.
What about naps? Currently sleep training do you do the Ferber method with naps too? First time trying this he’s been crying for an hour 😢
Thank you for this video. Do we have to change a diaper in between the checking?
CaroliPitt not at all. However, we would recommend it if it is a 💩 diaper :)
