Some of my family (particularly mother in law) thinks I'm a little too uptight about her sleeping patterns and her sleeping in a dark and quiet area instead of the busy area of the house during the day, but so far she's extending her night sleeps from 11 - 3 'o clock sleep to feed, to 11 - 4:30! So far so good... Also my MIL was over a few days ago and was holding her for 3,5 hours... I have trouble standing up for myself and let it go for this once, and boy did I regret it. This video is perfect timing for us. He is 16 weeks and everything switched. Do you have any tips regarding sleep when we are out and about for the day?
This video is so helpful! My wife and I’s newborn just started sleeping well through the night at 6 weeks and we are definitely trying to get ahead of the 4 month sleep regression to make things easier. One question - can we still swaddle our baby at 4 months? When is it no longer recommended to swaddle your baby? Thank you again!
Glad the video was helpful. In regards to swaddling. It really depends. You want to stop swaddling when your baby is showing early signs that they are getting close to rolling over. The concern is that if they do roll over when swaddled they would not be able to use their hands to clear their face and could suffocate. So it is best to transition out of a swaddle when they are showing you that they are close to rolling over. If they have rolled you will have to go to having both arms out ASAP.
Hey it’s really helpful for me at this time because my son is 4.5months and he does exactly what u said in the video…. I would like to know when this regression ends
3 babies later…I have to disagree. I do that and I give my baby 15 mins to cry. She falls asleep during that 15mins and now when I lay her down “drowsy but awake” she lays in bed awake but she’ll put herself to sleep.
@Limonka my twin girls will be 6 months in 2 days. And they (or I) am going through the same ordeal since 4 months. Its mind boggling and tiring as shit
Proud to help my baby back to sleep by nursing him. 🥰❤✌ Nursing is a gift that was given to mothers. Dang it's hard, exhausting, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I think this obession with babies sleeping independently is really evil. It deprives babies of much needed affection. I also believe that nursing to sleep is so soothing for babies and I love it. There is something magical when the babies fall asleep while nursing. In my experience it does not effect their sleep either. It just a theory which is hard to prove. I will rock and nurse all my babies to sleep. That is a precious bonding time. My first was a terrible sleeper (honestly, I think I caused it bcs could not read his feeding and sleeping cues properly) and still nursed and rocked him to sleep. Now he is 2.5 years old and I have such sweet memories and bonding because of it.
Emma..all ur videos are very informative and accurate.. we like to know if its okay to use baby carrier with hip seat..it not please recommend the beat for us
Thanks so much😊. If your baby's bottom and thighs are supported and their knees are higher than their hips (so they form an M shape) when they are in baby carrier with the hip seat then the carrier sounds great.
4 months? We were fine at 4 months...now we're at 12 months...oh my word...what on earth has happened? Wakes up screaming and cannot be consoled unless picked up and after a while sleeps again, but only on our bed... At our wit's end!
My little one started sleeping through around 10 weeks, thought this is great 👍 now she's 6 months and back to waking up every couple hrs 😪 biggest issue is rolling over then can't get back over, so been going in flipping her back, 2hrs later, on the belly again awake 😫 any help would be much appreciated guys
This is us right now with our 4 month old. We’ve gone from 5-6 hour stretches and one on feed overnight to waking every 2-3 hours and 2-3 feeds overnight 😵💫 she won’t go back to sleep after 5am without another feed. She will stay on the breast for ages but isn’t actually swallowing and screams when I lay her back down so she’s using me as a dummy. I’m dying.
I feel you. Im still a human dummy, going at 8 months now. She won’t leave me!! Thank god, it got better, she can now sleep in trolley or car seat if enough tired. How to tame a wild baby? Haha
She is not using you as a dummy, she is using dummy as you. They look for comfort by sucking mama's nipple, the want to smell you, feel you, feel the warmth and comfort of your arms and be in their safest place. Think about it like this : when people were in the cave they didn't have dummies, babies were sucking nipples for comfort, they do exactly the same thing now, dummy is introduced, nipple is natural.
Can you make a video on when not to swaddle please? Is it when rolling to the side or to the belly or when can roll and roll back or when there is no startle reflex or all above or some has priority over the others.... Just a bit confused here haha! Thanks heaps
Please, please do a video on sleep regression: when in the first few years we can expect them and how to deal with them. Please. Mine is 4 months and is going thru it. My sister inlaw says to expect one every few months in the first years. Do we let them cry it out. Do we console. Do we take them back to bed with us. Help!
My baby never went through the 4 month regression HOWEVER at 5 months 5 days , my bby started waking up 2-3 times a night 😢 11pm, 2am, and 5 or 6am. She wakes up to feed and quickly falls asleep right after
I have this issue but it started when she turned 9 months and her top teeth are coming thru. She only sleeps in her bed for a couple hours after putting her down and cries until we put her in our bed, this has currently been going on for 3 weeks previously she was a great sleeper.
My 7 month old has this! It started when she was 5 months old then one whole month of good sleep then 7 months old is like she is waking up 9pm then at 3am then at 6am. I need sleep 😭
did all this. Baby slept fine then at 9.5 months baby learned to scream at top of the lungs, despite knowing moma and dada.... when i picked her up she stopped "cryelling" and started to lecture me in baby gibberish. Full tonality and all.... she is co-sleeping with me from 230in the morning now, cause I feel soo guilty. Didn't care about the crying... but the lecturing hit hard!!
Can you please make a vid of Babys that fight sleep. My 2 month old is fighting sleep during the day. It takes me up to two hrs to get him to take a nap.
We're afraid of doing too much together. Our almost 5 month old has started rolling over on his tummy, so we're considering taking him off the swaddle, then there is reducing dependency on us for going to sleep, and finally helping him sleep for longer. Any thoughts on which to prioritize?
Hi @Arudresh I would recommend taking him out of the swaddle first. It is important to do this now as you mentioned he has started to roll over onto his tummy. I would then ensure the bedroom is dark, cool and quiet and your little one might surprise you and start linking his sleep cycles without your support.
This is the second time we start having problems/are going to start something and you post a video on how to solve it/do it right xD your posting schedule and our babys development seem to be in sinc xD Also the new animations are great!
Emma, thanks for all your videos, really helpful and informative! We are now coming soon to 4 months and since very beginning my baby has awful sleep patterns (day sleep 30 min, more ( 1,5 to 2 hours) only outside on the walk. Now he starts to spend the whole night on the breast eating, not sure what to do and how to fix it. Thanks
My baby is 6 months old and I was so surprised to observe the he has started not to sleep early. Instead he would be sleeping at midnight then will wake up every two hours until morning. Jesus. But thanks to your tips Emma. I'm glad I've subscribe d your channel.
Hello Emma, my son is 10 months old. He can’t sleep well at nights. Nearly wakes up every hour. It makes me so tried, sleepy, and also angry. What’s the reason for that? He is sleeping while breastfeeding , or I’m rocking him on my feet or arms. What can I do?
Yes, absolutely. At 9/10 months little ones are more mobile (crawling/learning new skills), are also aware of separation anxiety and in the process of dropping a nap. This can lead to a sleep regression. You can approach the regression using the tips in this video but you just need to adjust the wake times and night feeds to suit a 9 month old. At 9 months your bub might be on a two nap schedule. So generally look for your little ones' tired signs after being awake for around 2 hours in the morning and again after being awake for around 3 hours after the first nap. Some 9 months olds may wake for one feed at night and some might not need a feed.
We do a lot, if not all of these things on a regular basis and have done for ages but my 6.5 month old still wants to start his day at 4am 😓 do you have other tips for over 6 months old?
Ours been like this for a month and we’re considering assembling her crib. She had a side bed next to ours. But it seems a little small for her. Bought a bigger one but it didn’t work.
My son is 7 months old and nurses every 2 hours, and some nights will literally scream for hours if he isnt latched while asleep. How do i change this? Im exhausted.
Hi Emma, my 3 month old is going through the regression. Unfortunately, she has been a catnapper since birth and would only sleep cycle for longer than 30 minutes if being held. Now that the regression has started, it’s difficult to get her to sleep longer than 30 mins even when she is held! Her nights are all over the place but we are so anxious about whether she will ever learn to sleep cycle. Any advice on how to manage a catnappers daytime schedule would be amazing! Thank you
When my baby was 7 weeks he would sleep from. 4 to 6 hrs a night now at almost 10 weeks he is not sleeping well. Any tips for how to get him back to sleeping better ?
My baby is already almost 7 months and he is having the same thing. 😢 it has been a week and he is waking up every hour during the second half of the night. 😢
Thanks for another great video. Is there such a thing as a 10month sleep regression? Mine has gone super clingy and seems to know the moment I'm trying to put him down and the tears start. Sleep only lasting 30-60mins all night 😔
Hi @Jay Fo yep another sleep regression is common at 9/10 months of age. This is when little ones tend to be on the move, peak or separation anxiety and they are also dropping a day nap (moving to 2 naps a day). This often results in a sleep regression. I will try and do a video on this topic soon. The tips in this video will help though (just adjust the number of night feeds expected to a 10 month old).
@@EmmaHubbard Thank you. Yes have taken your tips on board. We find making the room boring for him to be impossible though. At 4am he finds the air-conditioning vents, doors and even plain white walls exciting and wants to touch them and play 😅
Desperate need tips for toddlers. My boy is 14 months now. After he start CC and also get sick he is very attach to us and car 3 times a hour so we have up and co sleep with him. But still ! He cry so much , we are exhausted and desperate 😢
My baby fights naps and requires a dummy for naps and initially to go to sleep on an evening but never throughout the night (he can self settle/doesn’t fight). Do you have an explanation for this? It baffles me
Hi emma my baby dont sleep at all during the day and uses me as a dummy to get back to sleep at night. He dream feeds and stay tired during the day. I feed him in a quite/dark room and rock him after ever feed but he fight back to stay awake. Sometimes he stay asleep after leaving the breasts but that sleep lasts for only few minutes. He sleep for 1 whole hour rarely and stay playfull all the time. Also, he love to see faces around him and if left alone even for a minut he screaams and calms down after seeing me. I am so tired

I am looking for paid service for - How to teach a 16m old baby to sleep independently.. my baby goes to daycare now and has problems sleeping. she is very stressed and so am I. Please help
Hi Emma! I have been following you before my daughter's birth..Now that she's been 4 and a half months Let me take you a week before I tried to stretchher daytime feed intervals.. So ,she was sleeping 3 times a day 30 to 45 mins naps but I used to feed her in every 2 hours or sometimes 1 and a half hour.during the day. 10 min feed from one breast only and for the next feed ,the other breast after every 2 to 2.5 hours. used to sleep through the night. A week ago, I tried to stretch the time between feeds.Since then, she hasn't been sleeping through the night and wakes up for feed, even if I have fed her at 12am.. :( She is now taking 6 min feed at every hour and then she asks for another one after 3 hours almost, which I try to stretch to make it 4. What do I do,I am not used to waking up at nights :( as she has been a good sleeper since the beginning.
I try to do the sushing or patting but after 5 mn of i eventually give in and end up "feeding" her. She starts feeding but falls asleep right away and keep sucking through the night, if i try to get her off she will scream ! I thought we were done with that but its coming back now at 3 months
Is it still normal for babies to still need a feed at night around 9 months old or is that 100% sleep association? Like other parents here, it's been really rough with my bebe waling every 2 hours and having a very hard time going back to bed. Thank you!
My baby is 4.5 months old.....sleeping well around 5-6 hours in afternoon and sleeps only 2-3 hours at night and then stays awake. She wants me to hold her and cries when i place her back on the bed at night. I dont know how to change this
Hi Emma, in relation to tip 2 , does this mean if my 4 month old was only previously waking for 2 night feeds, but is now waking 4-5, I should only feed her for 2 and the extra wake times try to settle her other ways? Thanks so much
Hi Elle! Yes, absolutely! If your little one was previously only waking for 2 night feeds but is now waking f4 or 5 times, it is highly likely she is waking at these extra times because she is waking between sleep cycles and needing your help to fall back asleep. And not so much because she is extra hunger. So I would recommend trying to settle her in other ways at these times. Hope this helps.
My baby is 2.5 months old and she doesn’t sleep longer than 3-4 hour stretches at night? But often it’s less, 1-2 hours. What am I doing wrong? I wake up 3-4 hours a night to feed her I am going mad 😢
How do you make them nap in the day if they just won’t sleep? He’ll sleep for about 30mins in late morning but that’s literally it, we can’t get him to nap at all. This means he’s overtired every night and struggles to sleep

My 3.5 months old just hates darkness. He’ll start crying when we carry him to his dark bedroom and stop straight away when we turn the light on. He will even be super fussy & move a lot when he’s already asleep and we turn the light off. Any suggestions as to how to overcome this issue?

Hello Emma, My baby is 3 months and 10 days old, from past 1 week i have been noticing similar signs of ?? Sleep regression. My concern is that is it possible to get regression so early? Also, her appetite has decreased I was expecting cluster feeding during this time But its reduced. What to expect?? Kindly enlighten
Is there a 6 weeks regression?? Our newborn started at around 4wks to get to some longer sleep streches at night. We had 4-5 hours between breastfeeds. Now (5-6weks) our boy is waking every 2-3 hours. He is also much more unsettled at night. And its much harder to calm him back to sleep. He seems uncomfortably gassy /windy. Do you have any advice??🙏
My baby is approaching 5 months and he is waking 3 or 4 times a night and the only way he goes back to sleep with a feed I’ve tried these methods before resorting to a feed but if you have any more suggestions that would be great.
If the only way your baby goes back to sleep is by a feed, most likely it is because of hunger. What I did was offering more milk/food during the day so that the baby's tummy has all the needed calories to last through the night without a feed. This solved the problem for me, no more night wakings.
@@charu230 hi Charu, I think the next step was trying to have him attempt to put himself back to sleep. I fed in the night up until he was 15 lbs I think it was. Try the gentle sleep method too.

We tried to feed her when she wake before 12am but she does take it well , we don’t know what to do with this sleep regression!!! Please help
I have a 3.5 month old that was an awesome sleeper from the beginning and would go for a 5 hour stretch or longer. And then wake every 2-3 hours. Now he’s going through a sleep regression and wakes sometimes every hour. I give him the binky unless I can tell he’s not falling back asleep for long. But now I think he’s continuing to rely on me giving him his pacifier really often but I’m not sure what to do in place of it to get him back to sleep? I’m nervous he will start all out crying and become unable to manage if I don’t help him back to sleep.
Thanks for watching! Which strategy are you going to try first?
I think I’ll start gently, and taking him to his bedroom to have a nap on my arms… I’m so tired I’m scared I won’t last much crying

3 babies later…I have to disagree. I do that and I give my baby 15 mins to cry. She falls asleep during that 15mins and now when I lay her down “drowsy but awake” she lays in bed awake but she’ll put herself to sleep.
My daughter is 2 months. Wakes once in the night to feed, down a few hours, and then cuddles for the next 2 hours
I have this problem as well. And my saughter will be 6 months old tomorrow. Are the advice the same for this age? Thank you
Yes, it is!
@Limonka my twin girls will be 6 months in 2 days. And they (or I) am going through the same ordeal since 4 months. Its mind boggling and tiring as shit
@@Nickerz1983 , you are right. It is exhausting!
Please make a video for 9 to 12 months sleeping
Just what i needed!
Can you guide about converting from motherfeed to bottle feed ???
Good suggestion!
Haha
😢😢
Hi Karly, hopefully some of these tips will help you get some sleep back. Particularly tip #2.
We have the same demon child. Jk kinda my wife is physically and mentally drained from this behavior. I feel helpless
Thanks heaps
can we pls have a vid on teething. and i dont mind night feedings but everyone says not to do them bc it will lead to bad habits later on
Hi! I've got a video on teething if you search my channel 😀
@@EmmaHubbard thank you!
@@sarikatimmi No worries. Hope it helps
She wakes up to feed and quickly falls asleep right after
It is happening now at the 6th month with my baby
I have this issue but it started when she turned 9 months and her top teeth are coming thru. She only sleeps in her bed for a couple hours after putting her down and cries until we put her in our bed, this has currently been going on for 3 weeks previously she was a great sleeper.
Hopefully when the teeth come through she returns to being a great sleeper again. But these tips should also help a bit! 😁
My 7 month old has this! It started when she was 5 months old then one whole month of good sleep then 7 months old is like she is waking up 9pm then at 3am then at 6am. I need sleep 😭
Hopefully some of these tips help. Also good to check if your little one is teething as it can start around this age too!
did all this.
Do you have a video about 6 month sleep regression?
@@EmmaHubbard thanks for responding! We'll do that first.
This is the second time we start having problems/are going to start something and you post a video on how to solve it/do it right xD your posting schedule and our babys development seem to be in sinc xD
Also the new animations are great!
Thanks so much! Hope the video was helpful!
Same! 😆
Thanks
Did it get better?
My baby is 6 months old and I was so surprised to observe the he has started not to sleep early. Instead he would be sleeping at midnight then will wake up every two hours until morning. Jesus. But thanks to your tips Emma. I'm glad I've subscribe d your channel.
I hope this helps! Hopefully you both get some more sleep💕
My baby is 3 months and during the day he only naps if he is being held. Do you have any tips?
Hello Emma, my son is 10 months old. He can’t sleep well at nights. Nearly wakes up every hour. It makes me so tried, sleepy, and also angry. What’s the reason for that? He is sleeping while breastfeeding , or I’m rocking him on my feet or arms. What can I do?
Hi Emma,
My baby is 9 months and is going through a sleep regression, is that normal as well? Can we approach it similarly? Thank you!
@@EmmaHubbard thank you so much!!!
Is anybody else going through this at 11/12 weeks!? Isn't this too early? He was born 2 weeks late if that makes a difference...
Thank you
All babies are so different 😅 one of my twins breezed through the regression, the othe baby... Ooof rough
My baby ALWAYS fights sleeps. He does not like the idea of going to sleep as soon as we start our bedtime routine he gets upset. Any advice?
When my baby was 7 weeks he would sleep from. 4 to 6 hrs a night now at almost 10 weeks he is not sleeping well. Any tips for how to get him back to sleeping better ?
so this is where i went wrong D: shes 10 months now but she used to sleep soooo good at night! :((( its terrible.
Thank u Emma
But my one month old want to sleep in my arms and when i put her down she wakes up everytime.
What should i do?
What if my baby is 10 months old and started waking at ~1 am and crying/refusing to go back to sleep for basically a full wake window worth of time? 😭
Thank u i really nees this
No worries at all. Hope it helped!

It baffles me
My baby is 4 month, at the moment her sleep is the dream she sleeps from 8pm until 8am. (Not always thow)
I am scared by watching this video.......
My 4m old is doing same... and am dying to sleeep thru atleast 5 yrs during night...😩😩
Exactly what am facing right now....😢am so exhausted...

my one and a half month old baby is killing me. she always wakes every 2-2 .5 hours at night and she is active in day time. i have head ache for 3 days now because of lack of sleep. i am thinking to hire a nanny at will work at night
I am looking for paid service for - How to teach a 16m old baby to sleep independently.. my baby goes to daycare now and has problems sleeping. she is very stressed and so am I. Please help
Hi Emma!
I have been following you before my daughter's birth..Now that she's been 4 and a half months
Let me take you a week before I tried to stretchher daytime feed intervals..
She is now taking 6 min feed at every hour and then she asks for another one after 3 hours almost, which I try to stretch to make it 4.
How do I get him to sleep without my help , I got to work at 3 in the morning and don’t have time to be awake for him
What happens is she’s only 7weeks and she’s already like this. She only sleeps one sleep cycle. Does this still apply if she’s not 4 months yet ?
@@EmmaHubbard Perfect! I assumed so and within a few nights she was back to her regular wake times thank god:)
I tried all of these tricks and my baby still wont sleep, shes 5.2 months old its driving me nuts…

Hi Emma. So my 5 months old is wakes every 2 hours for full feeds. His routine has not changed since he was born. Please help
Our "4 month sleep regression" started at 4 months and has so far lasted to 10½ months.... I'm tired...
😢
So my baby is 2mo and he keeps waking up every hour in the early morning around 5am and doesn’t stay down 😭
My 3.5 months old just hates darkness. He’ll start crying when we carry him to his dark bedroom and stop straight away when we turn the light on. He will even be super fussy & move a lot when he’s already asleep and we turn the light off. Any suggestions as to how to overcome this issue?
Maybe dim lighting
Hi, we have almost 4 month old twins, they share the room. Last night they kept waking each other every hour. We have a noisemachine. Shall we try seperate rooms?
Hello Emma, My baby is 3 months and 10 days old, from past 1 week i have been noticing similar signs of ?? Sleep regression.
My concern is that is it possible to get regression so early?
Also, her appetite has decreased
I was expecting cluster feeding during this time
But its reduced.
@@Bold-Math interesting I do offer more during the day though.
Hi Payal
I’m going through the same issue with my four month old
Any tips what worked for you eventually?
@@charu230 hi Charu, I think the next step was trying to have him attempt to put himself back to sleep. I fed in the night up until he was 15 lbs I think it was. Try the gentle sleep method too.
Hi Emma how about baby doesn’t need night feed already since 3months old , and has been sleep through the night until 4months ish all the sudden she wake up earlier or multiple wake up during the night ?
Is it possible for this to be happening at 1 week old
