I shared with Tom recently that my friends are now asking me to share my online lesson tips with them. They are making great progress now too!!
I feel like I want to do this but my coach and other coaches like Larry Cheung recommend 80% weight on the trail leg then shift the weight forward right before the downswing starts. I feel like it’s possible to rotate and stay over the ball with no sway with the weight in the trail leg. Doesn’t this method cause a loss in pressure caused from the shift of proper sequence? .... not sure... do you teach this method?
@@kevinarbogast9309 Hi Kevin. This is such a complex subject. It's hard to know where to begin. I think the style Tom is teaching here certainly has a place. For occasional players, less athletic, physically compromised, etc. Good teachers, and I'm certain Eric would agree, don't just teach one method or style. So yes, this approach is definitely in the mix. I'm gonna throw a concept out here because by what you said I think you might benefit. I distinguish between "pressure shift" and "weight shift". And often I find developing golfers don't do this. Wt. shift is when mass above your feet moves positioning it in different places above the feet, and pressure shift is when you de-weight a leg momentarily so pressure moves dramatically to one foot but no mass moved above . So if you were standing in place alternating knee flexing pressure would be momentarily moving to each foot at 100pct to 0pct, yet no mass would be moving above. As opposed to moving upper mass from over one foot to the other. Ok, hope you got that. Imo, there is very little "wt shift" in a great golf swing but immense "pressure shifting ". So, what Tom is teaching here does not and should not eliminate pressure shifts . Think about that for awhile. Its the knees my friend.
@@555Trout yes! Makes total sense! That helps a lot actually. When I practice “pressure” shifting while keeping weight centered with proper sequence things go very well. I don’t think I would get the same result if I didn’t have the help of ground force generated by the pressure.
Eric is one of the greatest teacher out there, and not just regarding to golf, his teaching method is spot on for all aspects of study. His appreciation for all kinds of different golf coach and methods should help countless struggling golfers out there. This is seriously brilliant. I took a lesson a few months ago, and the instructor kept telling me, "Get off the ball. You need to get off the ball." He kept advocating for this big shift away from the ball in the backswing. I kept thinking to myself, why? It just didn't make any sense to me that I was adding this additional moving part to my swing. I hit the ball worse than ever after that lesson. I need less of that nonsense and more Saguto and Cogorno in my life.
Hey Eric; I’ve seen some of Toms videos before he’s a funny guy and talks good golf. Love watching you two interact my golf world is now insynk. Love ya brother!
I played baseball into college and have struggled with this exact issue in my golf game, too much swaying in my swing. I incorporated this technique into my game during 2 rounds this weekend. I generally shoot in the mid 80’s. This weekend I shot 82 and yesterday I shot my personal best round of 75!!!! Thank you so much for all that you do. My next goal is to break par.
I’m 79 years old always been a single digit handicap. I’ve tried this shoulder down hit the wall technique for about a month. It has dramatically improved my ball contacts. My only regret is I didn’t start 30 years ago you hear too many people saying stack and tilt is a joke. It’s a perfect swing technique for seniors
Eric, I really commend you for doing what you do. You're very open-minded when it comes to the golf swing, and you value the input you get from other teachers...even if their philosophy doesn't totally marry up with your own. That seems like a simply thing to do, but it's surprisingly lacking out there in the real word. This particular video is made for me, as I simply cannot (no matter how hard I try) take a divot in front of a golf ball. I'm going to give this a try!
My two favourite online golf instructors mashing it together! Love it! Both these guys have helped my game out significantly over the past 2-3 years. Although not on a one dimensional flat plane. Thanks guys
Very impressive the way Eric accepts other methodologies. I learned S&T 3 years ago because of sciatica. Most of the time now I use it for my irons. And a hybrid swing for driver. S&T keeps your head in the circle. All good golfers tilt. Many elite golfers don’t stack. But they’re hitting hundreds of balls a day. And they still keep their head in the circle albeit with some weight shift. Many mid to high handicap golfers would benefit from stacking and tilting. You just need to have an open mind. S&T is not snake oil. Try it ...it might work for you. So many ways to skin a cat. And straighten that trail leg on the way back 🙂
Thank you for sharing. I take online lessons with Tom and am a member of his golf school. Two days ago I told him I was impressed you two were doing this collaboration. I even did Mike Austin technique for a while....I was inconsistent at best. I too like how you share other pros and their perspectives! Nothing wrong with that!
Thank You. Over the years I've come to think that for the average golfing Joe S&T is the most accessable way to get to experience a decent round of golf. Paired with the throwing release a la Mike Austin (see Steve Pratt) many, many golfers would be a long way up the fairway and enjoying it immensely. Thats my personal story anyway.

Started to Watch Tom Saguto last year due to back problem, love the Metrodome, almost never take a excersice swing before i hit the ball on course. Used to take 4-5 to find the feeling, now just hit the small thing.
I've been struggling with my swing mightily the past couple years and tried these principles this week and probably had my best ball striking round of the season, and gained 5-10 yards. Even though it feels a little weird at first, it does seem more repeatable. Wish I had tried this years ago! Thanks for the video collab.

You are the MAN TOM!! You totally turned my golf game around! I got back into golf when covid started, had never broken 100, I’m now a solid 8 handicap. It all started with A LOT of your videos, A LOT. They were easy and made sense. I’ve then taken pieces of my favorite online coaches teachings like you, Eric and Gankas and built my swing. It’s been a really fun process. I tell people that I’ve never taken a lesson but I guess that’s not really true. I’ve taken thousands!
Love Tom. He understands there are basically two types of golfers: on the one hand there are the athletes, who can hit anything with anything, have fabulous hand-eye coordination and will always make contact with the ball and on the other hand... us; Tom talks to us. However, on the downside he is slowly turning into a werewolf.
All I’m going to say is I hope you got a good chunk for helping this guy out. I got one of his videos a year or two ago and I told him his swing bordered on a reverse pivot and that he needed to be careful conveying it to his flock. His response was that he had never heard of the term reverse pivot so I had to explain it to him. I understand the place to where you are sending this Eric and get the well, you know. Lol
Great video. I am a fan or both Eric and Tom. I know there was not time to address this, but what Tom is saying -- keep the weight forward -- fits in with some of what Eric teaches. For example, keeping the weight forward allows the hips to turn more, which in turn allows the shoulders to turn more and the arms/hands to travel further and, as Eric has talked about in the past, this allows your chest to open up, to extend, as you approach the top of the back-swing. This creates a wider arc and more club-head speed without the need to lunge or throw yourself into the ball. Thus, the weight forward can be the foundation of a rhythmic, smooth swing with tempo that looks beautiful and hits the ball a long way without looking like you are putting too much effort into it. Watch any decent pro and you will be amazed at how easy they generally swing and how far the ball goes. I think it is because of the weight shift Tom and others advocate as well as the other great things the weight forward promotes. Again, you guys are two of my favorite.
I watch Tom’s videos. I wish you would have talked about how not to lift and chop vs the weight shift. Tom’s stuff combined with some of your wrist action really changed my golf turn dramatically
Great video. Stack and tilt does work. Keeping your weight forward makes for consistent ball contact. However, I found it difficult to generate significant club head speed. Once I started to shift my weight more, my club head speed increased more than 10mph for all clubs.
@@CogornoGolf It did.........thank you for bringing this to us.....you both make a great combo.....I was very doubtful, and more than skeptical.....first practice session was great.....
Interesting video and I can see how with irons having the more weight on the lead side promotes a more downward blow to the ball. I could also imagine there may be some tendency to try to help the ball up on the downswing. My other question is how does this work when it comes to the driver and longer clubs? Would love to see more on this in future videos.
my favourites golf coachs on the same screen ! that's crispy. Your calm and detailed way of teaching and Tom's funny and snappish method are really helping me understanding the x and o's of the golf swing, thanks.
Thanks Eric I watch you both and respect All your knowledge. I've been stack and tilt , if that's what you want to call it, for the past two years and it's effected My ball striking abilities for the best especially the irons. Driver , well it's a steeper swing but I've learned to flatten my circle to come in nice and shallow with the big dog.
Great video as always! I’ve been tinkering around with weight forward over the left insole not so much for contact but actually swing path improvement. It seems with weight forward it’s a lot harder to swing outside-in which helps a ton with path. The farther back the weight goes the more outside-in the path seems to go (at least in my tinkering at the range).
Ok so i watched this video about "The Wall" last night. This afternoon I played golf. The first thing I did was hit the range and was hitting the ball real solid. I played about 10 strokes better today than my normal game. My buddies started saying that I normally sway but not today. I was hitting the ball much better. I give credit to "The Wall". I want to buy the shirt! Build the wall!
Nice vid. Tom is quite the character. This makes sense especially when the ball is on the ground. I can’t imagine it changing that much once it’s teed up?
I live in Myrtle Beach and Litchfield CC is an underrated course. Very Nice layout. I purchased the Stack 'n' Tilt DVDs when the system exploded in popularity, and liked much about it. Unfortunately, I'd had surgery on my lead knee 15 years prior, and shifting MORE weight onto my lead foot as the flex on the lead knee increased resulted in sharp pain in that kneel.
Eric great video lesson with Samurai Tom who is hilarious. My feel as Tom mentioned is my right hip back to the wall on the backswing helps me from swaying and thus better solid contact on the transition and downswing.👏
I guess it’s very good and reliable for Irons to achieve a constant contact and AoA 3-5 degrees down to compress the Ball. With Driver I guess the weight in setup is different and you need more side bend to shallow and hit up 3-5 degrees. Good Question!
I am liking this Wall idea Keeping that left leg there is something I think is going to help me I am trying hard to get the shoulder tilt happening (lack of coordination aside) But this drill is actually forcing body into areas I am wanting it to go but it wasn't
Hey Eric ! Congrats and many thanks for helping golf moving forward for amateurs ...Would it be possible to plan some day a video with Georges Gankas ? It would be an amazing mix of philosophies, styles and points of view.... Jean
Thanks, Jean! We had a day scheduled with George Feb 2020 but we ran into some scheduling issues. If we ever get back out to the west coast we would love to! George is awesome!
@@CogornoGolf Yeah! But there’s lot of value to that stack and tilt style. His setup is allready before the backswing post impact and takes a lot of variables out of the occasion. Love it 💪
Eric did this principle come from your head on the wall, or correlate to it (meaning you still came up with it, but it relates and can work in conjunction) ? Both your stuff is helping my golf game. Keep up the excellent work !
Hey Tom! None of these things did I nor Tom come up with....we are just passing along what we have learned from others along the way and our observations of those things. Certainly all the moves tie together!
I noticed that Tom has an exaggerated weight shift to the front leg at address vs Eric. It does not look like any other golf address I have seen but trying this exaggerated position at address definitely helped me. That with visualizing the wall on the left side and head in circle have been great tips. My question relates to a trigger to start my back swing and how to bend the front knee. I found it helpful to start my back swing motion by starting to bend my front knee as the trigger which forces the shoulder movement down. Since my front leg is flared out and the weight is mostly on my front leg the knee bend also goes to the left or straight out instead of inward towards my back leg. Tom kinda is doing it like this but Eric's knee shifts a little towards the back leg on the back swing. I see the old time golfers doing this even more dramatically(Sneed). Am I seeing it right and how do you feel about triggering the back swing this way and the way I am bending the knee? Thanks
Hey Frank! Yes....you are seeing that right. Mines goes in a bit more to help me turn my hips more. The lead knee NEEDS TO go down....the tilt to help keep inclination to ground. In CAN (doesn't have to) go in....that helps the turn I personally like to see the lead knee bend down and slightly in so the kneecap is right under the lead hip More on that here that may help: th-cam.com/video/pPlAIUbGTOY/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBvZ29ybm8gaGlwcyBiYWNrc3dpbmc%3D th-cam.com/video/MI9XfoDBr00/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBvZ29ybm8gaGlwcyBiYWNrc3dpbmc%3D
@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric. Not far from Bethlehem golf club. I recognize the driving range in your other videos that I have been on many times. Thx for getting back to me and for all your videos.
Awesome, Eric. Enjoyed the combo lesson with Tom. My only question is I noticed Tom used an iron for weight on lead leg against the imaginary wall. Does he recommend the same approach with driver? Probably works with hybrids but not sure about the big stick. Thx
My only concern Eric is when I start with weight forward the swing becomes too steep? Divots become deep. Your thoughts and great video from you and Tom!
Thanks, Kelly! Have to shallow it out during downswing with the extension pieces (hips forward, chest up) th-cam.com/video/pbyZpiTnNlY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/scieZk2ZGo4/w-d-xo.html
S&T is a great shortcut to a great swing...and it's hardly "new" given Hogan's swing, along with Snead's and others. Hogan advocated a weight shift to the right side, but in reality, his left knee dipped down (weight on the lead foot) and his right leg straightened. Plus, even though he had a slight shift to the right, at the same time his butt moved probably 5 inches towards the target at the top of the backswing which pre-loaded his weight to the left. S&T simply pre-positions the weight onto the left side to eliminate excess movement. S&T is so easy that I feel like I"m "cheating". I never had a 5-inch bacon strip divots on wedges before with boatloads of spin. Plus, I have added at least 30 yards to my driver, maybe more, and I'm hitting 8 irons 160 vs. 140-ish with my "old swing". Great job Eric to introduce Tom and also S&T which is what many of us have already discovered and never looked back. There are still guys at my club who swing with a right side weight shift. The same one's who complain they never improve, but they're good at buying new clubs to "solve the problem". LOL.
Why not pre set the the ball contact and then go backward instead of starting to learn the backswing. Whats right and wrong in golf? I won a competition with strong forward press and rapid hockeyswing, then I tried to be a golfer and trained the backswing in two years. Now time for downswing, and I will definitly try this. Im always doing this for my wedges. Eric is NO 1, so pedagogic and just focusing on showing, not just talking😉 Tom has a point. Great
I mean, get the feeling of correct position when hitting the ball, then how it looks half way back in downswing, top position, and then how to get the top position from backswing. Vice versa as normal way of learning that starts from backswing. Just a thought.
Great video, 2 quick questions, does this go against your teaching point (which has helped me a lot in the past) of equal and opposites? Or no Because your weight/hips stay forward throughout the swing? Also, as someone that tends to move off the ball too much, could this also work with driver/3w? Thanks as always
Hey Brian! 1. So long as you keep going forward on way down you are ok (opposite would be away from target) 2. Yep....of course you can over do anything

Appreciate the kind words and feedback, John!
I watch Tom’s videos. I wish you would have talked about how not to lift and chop vs the weight shift. Tom’s stuff combined with some of your wrist action really changed my golf turn dramatically
Appreciate it--Tom is great! More to come!
My name is Thomas Eric so this is naturally my favorite golf video
:) Thank you for watching my friend!
Love Tom He helped Me with my game and showed me the way to improve. great vid Eric.
Love to hear that! Great guy!
Awesome video! Can't wait to give it a try tomorrow. Shawn Clement with Wisdom in Golf teaches a very similar method.
Hope it serves you well, Mat!
Great video. Stack and tilt does work. Keeping your weight forward makes for consistent ball contact. However, I found it difficult to generate significant club head speed. Once I started to shift my weight more, my club head speed increased more than 10mph for all clubs.
Thanks, Tom! Several ways to do it!
I love this guys attitude and communication.....makes sense.....just never heard it said ...great job....will advise on my outcomes...
hope it helps!
Thanks! Definitely some adjustments with driver...more on that here: th-cam.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/w-d-xo.html
Great tips from the “Goodfellas” of golf!! This is an offer I can’t refuse!!
LOl
WOW.... you two characters really blend. Great stuff
Thanks! Tom is awesome!
my favourites golf coachs on the same screen ! that's crispy. Your calm and detailed way of teaching and Tom's funny and snappish method are really helping me understanding the x and o's of the golf swing, thanks.
Appreciate ya, Fred!
Thanks Eric I watch you both and respect
All your knowledge. I've been stack and tilt , if that's what you want to call it, for the past two years and it's effected
My ball striking abilities for the best especially the irons. Driver , well it's a steeper swing but I've learned to flatten my circle to come in nice and shallow with the big dog.
Appreciate the support my friend!
100%
After seeing the video today realised. ..Eric ur a gentleman...appreciate ur manners
:)
this dudes sideburns are NEXT level. Great tips too, awesome video!
Lol yes they are!
Great stuff. Good reason to listen to saguto...
You give so many different options for golf...stack and tilt here, square to square. Conventional...its great
Lots of ways to get it done!
Often times if you look into the details of the options they are 90%+ the same
You are both great teachers I watched Eric but I am focusing on toms stack and tilt right now.
Appreciate it!!
Lol love it, Richard!
Nice vid. Tom is quite the character. This makes sense especially when the ball is on the ground. I can’t imagine it changing that much once it’s teed up?
Hey! Here is more on driver vs iron differences: th-cam.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/w-d-xo.html
Cool place!!
Two of my all time favorites!! Awesome. More S&T principles:)
Thanks, David!
I did not see this coming... awesome Eric and Tom 👏👏👍👍
:)
Love the collaboration and info shared 👍
Appreciate it, Alan!
Best sideburns on YT, hands down.
Lol no doubt love it
Eric great video lesson with Samurai Tom who is hilarious. My feel as Tom mentioned is my right hip back to the wall on the backswing helps me from swaying and thus better solid contact on the transition and downswing.👏
Thanks, Anthony! Tom is awesome!
You guys are great together !!!
Thanks, James!
It definitely works, I usually shot mid 90’s, and never broke 90. I shot a 78 my last round. I was on fire 🔥, all 3 phases was working.
Fantastic playing, Preston! Congrats on the personal best!!
Is this method applicable only for iron shots? Thanks
I guess it’s very good and reliable for Irons to achieve a constant contact and AoA 3-5 degrees down to compress the Ball. With Driver I guess the weight in setup is different and you need more side bend to shallow and hit up 3-5 degrees. Good Question!
Here is more on differences between iron and driver: th-cam.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/w-d-xo.html
I am liking this Wall idea
Keeping that left leg there is something I think is going to help me
I am trying hard to get the shoulder tilt happening (lack of coordination aside)
But this drill is actually forcing body into areas I am wanting it to go but it wasn't
Hope it serves you well!
One of your best videos
Thanks, Mark!
@@CogornoGolf Your mix would be impressive... for sure 😉
Phenomenal boys! Great video!
Yo, Jess! What's up man....we missed ya there is Myrtle. Maybe next time we can do a GOLF 3 way
Lol! Yes! That would be awesome!! Dream
Video!
Please bring Tom back on again. Great fun.
More to come! He is great!
Thanks guys!! ❤️❤️🎯🏌️♂️
Our pleasure my friend...thanks for being with us!
Tom insists on breaking the fourth wall while telling us not to leave the wall. So meta, love it.
:)
Great video. When I can stay focused and follow this advice, I hit the crap out of the ball.
Love to hear that, Joe! Appreciate you watching!
Love the Sag-Gorno 'Head on the Wall" and "Don't Leave the Wall" mash up. This might be 99% of my contact problems.
:)
Love Mashing the ball!!
Yessir!
Great vid guys
Thanks, Michael!
Thx you. My two favorite Dudes.
Appreciate it, Ron!
Great video! Practicing it right now.
Appreciate it---hope it serves you well!
The Man with the most sexy Sideburns in Golfteaching history and the crispiest contact! Love it! 😍
Lol
@@CogornoGolf Yeah! But there’s lot of value to that stack and tilt style. His setup is allready before the backswing post impact and takes a lot of variables out of the occasion. Love it 💪
Hi Rick Hauser great video looks like you're starting your trip back home have a safe one
Thanks, Jim!
Whoa!! Saguto and Cogorno together!!?? Shut the front door! It's about dam time 🤣
Lol!
In CAN (doesn't have to) go in....that helps the turn
I personally like to see the lead knee bend down and slightly in so the kneecap is right under the lead hip
More on that here that may help:

@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric. Not far from Bethlehem golf club. I recognize the driving range in your other videos that I have been on many times. Thx for getting back to me and for all your videos.
Awesome, Eric. Enjoyed the combo lesson with Tom. My only question is I noticed Tom used an iron for weight on lead leg against the imaginary wall. Does he recommend the same approach with driver? Probably works with hybrids but not sure about the big stick. Thx
Thanks! We didn't do a driver video this time around but here is a video I did on iron vs driver differences: th-cam.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/w-d-xo.html
Great video lesson
Thank you!
My only concern Eric is when I start with weight forward the swing becomes too steep? Divots become deep. Your thoughts and great video from you and Tom!
Thanks, Kelly! Have to shallow it out during downswing with the extension pieces (hips forward, chest up)

@@CogornoGolf Thanks Eric!
Is this concept of putting your weight a little forward only for irons or is it for every club?
Could be just irons...could be all clubs. I would say weight more forward the shorter the club and less forward the longer (personally)
@@CogornoGolf yeah that definitey makes sense hahah thank you!
LOL.
:)
Great
Hey Jonas! I'm not sure I'm following your message but whatever works!!
I mean, get the feeling of correct position when hitting the ball, then how it looks half way back in downswing, top position, and then how to get the top position from backswing. Vice versa as normal way of learning that starts from backswing. Just a thought.
Out of curiosity, how would this affect driver angle of attack?
Many of the setup differences involved between iron and driver.....more on that here

Tom rockin the Abe Lincoln look! Styles brudda!
Haha he's too funny!
Awesome! ...what about driver though? What would the feel be for driver? Thank you! Awesome video!!
Thanks man! Check out Tom's channel for this thoughts on driver!
If someone new to your channel watched this video and then the Josh Koch series, their head would explode!
Lol
Does this work with the driver? Great vid..
Some similarities some differences with driver vs iron here: th-cam.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/w-d-xo.html
Toms the man!
Yes he is!
Great video, 2 quick questions, does this go against your teaching point (which has helped me a lot in the past) of equal and opposites? Or no Because your weight/hips stay forward throughout the swing? Also, as someone that tends to move off the ball too much, could this also work with driver/3w? Thanks as always
Hey Brian!
1. So long as you keep going forward on way down you are ok (opposite would be away from target)
2. Yep....of course you can over do anything
Oh yeah it works for the irons for sure!!!! But how about driver?
Check out Toms channel for more of his videos to see what he says about driver!
