Hey Tom, could you do a video on how to regain your swing when you've lost it? For about 12 months I perfected your swing. I went from a 9 to a 3 hdcp. But in the last couple months I've completely lost my "feel" in my core and arms. I've lost 10 yards per iron, and 20 per wood. What would you do to get your swing back???? Start from the basics?
@@peteroliver4988 One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will refer students in my online school back to Chapter 2 of the Golf Swing Simplified course when they experience a hiccup or perceived setback. That chapter reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then park yourself on that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance! (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators. One online school student experimented with this by playing five consecutive rounds with the "2.8 swing". He shot in the 70's each time.) Once you've got that down you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards reclaiming ownership of YOUR swing! If you're not already enrolled in the school, please consider doing so. So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. As an enrolled member you'll enjoy: - Unlimited access to comprehensive members-only systems for the full swing. - Short game courses: Chipping, Pitching, Bunker play, Putting. - Simplified, succinct, step-by-step lessons and drills designed to put you on the fast track towards learning everything in a well-organized, self-guided fashion. - Detailed troubleshooting diagnostic videos and fixes for a variety of common swing issues. - Power & Distance course. - Shot-Shaping Grid course. - Ball Flight Fixes course. - Indoor Training Program. - The quick-start “Get Out and Go Play” program. - A Members' Forum where you can ask specific swing-related questions, interact with others in the SagutoGolf community, and suggest new content ideas. - Access to all exclusive paid TH-cam channel members-only content at no additional charge. - Discounted rate on my V1 Swing Video Analysis service. - Ongoing additions of new content. All that and more for just $10 US/ month or $99/year. Here's a link if you'd like additional info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga. I hope to see you there! Tom
"Just hold on loosely but don't let go, If you cling to tightly you're gonna loose control"... What a perfect description of the golf grip. Thanks, Tom for making that connection, and thanks to 38 special for that amazing lyric... Instant thumbs up from me!
I truly appreciate that, Tom, and I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying my channel's instruction content!! If you've not already done so, perhaps sometime soon I'll see you enrolled in the SagutoGolf online school for just $10 US/month or $99 US/year?? 😎 Thanks again for your kind words and support!! Tom
Today I shot a 90. It has been a while since I moved much off of 100 The course was a challenging course and I took 2 sevens which would be easy to eliminate next round My point is Tom is the only one I will listen to on TH-cam ...and the only instruction course I am taking Arm straight .. changed my life Don't sway... Changed my life Weight on my lead leg... Changed my life Arm pits out .. and change my grip.. changed my life If I do those 4 things I hit it straight...crispy... And solid EVERTIME ... YES. ...EVERYTIME GOLF IS FUN ...FINALLY .... THANKS Tom and SAGUTO Golf ..I am a believer .. I am a deciple 🎯👍🎯👍🙏💥🙏💥🙏💥
That is absolutely *AWESOME,* Geoff!! 💪💪 Thanks so much for your kind words and for sharing your "life-changing" experience - I'm thrilled to know that you are now enjoying this great game as that is what it is ultimately all about. Keep up the great work, keep it crispy, and we'll see you in the 80's _VERY_ soon!!! Tom
Thanks for another great post, Tom. You know, sometimes we get so focused on all of the little nuances that are involved in the golf swing that we forget about the basics - the fundamentals of a good swing. I love these little reminders so that when I'm out at the range, on the course, or just swinging in my back yard something clicks in my head, a gentle nudge, to check the basics - like a pre-flight checklist. It helps keep the foundation strong and I think we all need that from time to time.
It truly is a "pre-flight checklist", Dan, because all the swing really does is project a flight plan onto the ball. Speed, altitude, course - these are all established at the moment impact. After that the little orb is truly on autopilot! I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson! Tom
I've been following Tom for a few months now and practicing what he's teaching. My swing has changed a lot and my ball striking is miles better. I was a high 90's golfer for several years with a bad slice with driver through mid iron. Last weekend I shot 42 on the front 9 then 4 pars in a row to start the back. I fell apart at the end and shot 91. But its definitely a step in the right direction. I see many rounds in the mid 80's and lower in my future. Thanks Tom!
That's awesome!! I'm very glad to learn of your improvement through my instruction, and I appreciate your support in sharing your success!! Keep up the great work and have fun out there!! Tom
@Average American - Fantastic! Welcome aboard - I'm very glad to have you in the school!! Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start on your journey to the Land of Ball Striking Bliss: 1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this. 2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing! 2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down. 3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf 4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school membership - and begin engaging with your fellow members. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I really think you’ll enjoy it! I look forward to assisting you through the school’s structured lessons and drills towards building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level!
This lesson is gold. After one round of trying it I was getting used to it and shot a regular score for me lately of 76. Then the next round I shot 67 at Caledonia. And wasn’t even putting great. Then I was excited to play again to see if I could repeat a good score and shot 72 at True Blue with 4 three putts! No lie! I’m hitting the ball almost perfect to perfect all the time with this tip. Thanks a million Tom! I’m gonna come get a lesson/diagnosis soon!
Tom Saguto golf, this tip on "pushing away" has changed my golf game. Watched it one morning and without any driving range practice went out that same morning and shot the best round that I had shot in more than a year. Thanks Tom.
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated well with you, Kenneth!! Fabulous job incorporating it into your swing so quickly!! Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!! TS
Hey Tom - Tom here. This tip was fantastic for me, I played this morning and hit 2 pars and 3 bogeys across 9 holes - never EVER have I don't that. keep it up Mr.KFC! Tom.
That's fantastic, Tom!! I'm very glad to learn of your improvement. You obviously did a fabulous job digesting this lesson content and quickly incorporating it into your swing! Keep up the great work, and most importantly - have fun out there!! Tom
I really like how you describe the swing in a simple way. It's not easy to find instruction where someone can describe aspects of the swing mechanics that one can easily capture in their minds eye and take to the range.
Thank you - I sincerely appreciate your kind words and support, and I am very glad to know that my channel's lesson content is resonating well with you Keep up the great work and have fun out there!! Tom
I sincerely appreciate the kind words, Andrew, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating well with you!! Keep it KFCrispy, keep it fun!! Tom
Well, Paul, I don't see you in my online school so how about enrolling in that as "payback"?? Actually, that won't work because the school is so good and the annual "tuition" is so low that you'll still feel like you owe me..... 😎 I'm very glad to learn of your success. Keep up the great work and keep it crispy!! TS
I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, @Melba_Toasted, and I'm especially happy to learn of my "interwebs" domination!!..... 😂 Thanks for your kind words and have fun out there!! Tom
I am finding that this is the key to a consistent swing. It is something many of us think we are doing correctly but not well enough. Thanks for pointing that out and offering a great solution!
"Feel vs. Real", right @midnight4109?? This is one of the reasons I recommend that everyone who wishes to improve should record their swing. The video does not lie!! I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, and yes - it most certainly will deliver consistently crispy impact once properly ingrained through correct, repetitive execution. Thanks for your comment and have fun out there! Tom
Consider becoming a member of his teaching school, hours and hours of great content, all categorized and a forum of great people. I joined last week best money I spent.
Thanks Paul!! As @Doug kindly suggests, there's plenty more to be found in the online school for just $10/month or $99/year. If you've not already joined perhaps we'll see you there sometime soon? Cheers! Tom
Thanks Vincent - I'm glad you are enjoying my content!! By the way, here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning about the swing in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Have fun out there! Tom
Great tip Tom 🏌️ I use a “feel” practice swing for keeping my lead (left) arm straight, by holding my left wrist with my right hand & literally pushing my left arm down during my practice swing, obviously not holding a club, helps me 👍
Thanks - I appreciate that! Rather than subject yourself to bombardment, why not just join the online school for just $10/month or $99/year? Thank you Tom. It's a pleasure to watch your videos. I love your style (direct, efficient, funny). I improve both my golf and my english (i am a frenchman).
Thank you for your very kind words, @CHAMPION Valéry. I am very glad to know that you are enjoying my lesson videos and that your swing is benefiting from them! Keep up the great work with your golf and your English, and have fun out there!! Sincerely, Tom
Welcome to "the dark side", @neildollar, where the spoils of "conventional" instruction - chronic inconsistency, physical pain, and endless frustration - yield to the fruits of effortless and body-friendly enjoyment of this great game for a lifetime. 😆 I'm very glad to have you on board!! Tom
Nice Charlie! Congrats on that score. Consider supporting him through his website by becoming a member like I did. Tons of videos and a great forum for questions and comments.
I, too, am a Sagutogolf member. My lowest scores I had achieved since becoming a Saguto online student are 78, 79, 79 (on separate courses). I was a 20+ hcp before and achieved a 13 hcp. On a bad or OFF round, I can break 100 without thinking about it but usually am in the 80's. My golf game isn't quite balanced yet. I do learn something new or may pick up on information I may had missed everyday I review an online lesson from Tom and realize the golf swing taught is that simple. It can't be that simple....oh, yes it can!
@@johnpfistner8065 And here’s the thing too, there is always gonna be some bad shots and swings. Doesn’t me we have to revamp and go back to the drawing board. That’s golf, enjoy being able to even play.
Well done, Charlie - I'm very glad to know that the crispiness is beginning to click for you!! Bless your heart Tom. Love your enthusiasm for teaching us to play better golf. Also thanks for also continuing to add great content to your online school. Great to have a place to review a topic in a structured curriculum.
Wait a minute, Tom - isn't that bless your heart thing a well-disguised southern insult??.... 🙄🤔😂 I'm glad you're enjoying the school and you are doing a fabulous job with your swing. So when am I going to see you actively participating in the Members' Forum?? I know you will enjoy it, and the community will certainly benefit from your contributions. Keep it crispy and have fun out there! Tom
This guy is the absolute best, in my opinion, at explaining feels in the golf swing. There are heaps of guys teaching S & T on the net, but there is no one better at explaining how something should feel. Aaaand, he gives great relationship advice as well. 😉
Ummmm.....I'd be very careful with how you use this single guy's relationship advice......😂 Thanks again for your kind words and support, @Man_Bearpig!! Yes - Unless we are able to experiment with various feels and then ultimately ingrain the ones that work best for ourselves individually, there's no way that we are going to truly take ownership of a swing that performs consistently well under the pressure of on-course play. Cheers! Tom
I wish I had watched this before I played in the World AM. It was great meeting you there too. I met you out side the entrance and my wife took our picture together.
Hey Tom, I’m not sure if this makes any sense but I sort of came up with a good analogy for the feeling one should have coming out of the top of the backswing. I think from this point ( top of the backswing with arm straight and a good bow going on) you should feel like you are actually PULLING with the lead arm. If you can imaging a rope dangling from the air and are pulling it down across your body. So in other words, the backswing itself is just a set up where it then transforms into a pulling down feeling.
That's certainly a workable "feel", Warren, and it also speaks to why I would really prefer to call it a "backset" rather than a "backswing". An effective, repeatable golf swing is built on a compilation of personal "feels" that are unique to each of us individually. Over time we ingrain these feels into a complete motion that we can execute without need for mechanical thoughts. We are then able to simply allow our ball striking and shot shape to be our guide, making only occasional minor setup tweaks when necessary. That is what it means to "take ownership of YOUR swing". It seems to me that you are well on your way in this regard. Nice work!! Tom
Brilliant, as always Always coming back to the same principles Saguto's stuff is like a puzzle: he gives you a new "piece" in each video, but they all fit together. He''s not giving you 20 different swings, but rather ONE swing seen from 20 different angles, as it were. Watch 2:30 - 3:30 for the essence of this, which you should entitle "Don't Break the Left Arm!", BTW, Tom.
Thanks Justin!! You understand the method to my madness quite well, and I appreciate your kind words in this regard!! Yes - I do my best to convey different "feels" or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all unique physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with me may not necessarily work for you. Furthermore, a feel or thought that performs well for you this week may run its course or get overdone and not play out so nicely next week, so it's good to have alternates to call upon if needed. The key takeaway here is that no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired motion or position. (It's like a multiple choice test with no wrong answer!) And another nice thing about ingraining “feels” is that we can then disengage ourselves from mechanical thoughts during a round, focus on the target, and really just feel the swing we are going to make. This prevents “paralysis by analysis” and enables us to go out and enjoy the round. Cheers! Tom
@@SagutoGolf Thanks so much for getting back, always good to hear from you Just the other day, after much Saguto bingewatching, I FINALLY realized how important the TILT was (yeah, I know you practically strangle the viewer, but I was STILL like "Yeah, yeah, whatever ... tilt, schmilt ... feels too weird") I finally realized "Wait, I am NOT tilting ... maybe I should do that, especially 'cause this approach is called "Stack and Tilt" (they dropped me when I was a baby) Anyway, when I started, EVERYTHING you are teaching made sense ... it was like a revelation. A light shone down from the heavens on me, and the Earth shook ; ) No really, when you get the TILT, everything else falls into place ... like dominos. You can use, that, BTW ; )
@@justinpeterson2105 - I'm glad my ad nauseam tilt redundancy finally sank in!! Yes - without that component you may as well call it "Stack & Hack"...... 😂😂😂 Enjoy your epiphany!!!
Tom, I don't comment on golf videos much, but I have to say this one was excellent. Thanks for spending so much time on it, this tip is spot on for non-divot takers like me. Plus, the .38 Special song lyric reference is perfect for this tip! Great job, thanks again!
Thanks Jim - I appreciate your comments and I'm very glad to know that this lesson (and the .38 Special song) resonated well with you!! I wish you beautiful post-ball divots in the Land of Crispy Ball Striking Bliss!! Cheers! Tom

Tom, I’m a bit over 73 years old and, using your videos to correct my swing, you have me hitting drives that are straight and 230-250 yards in length. Now I need to work on hitting the ball first with my irons. I’ll let you know how it’s going. Thank you!
That's some great driving distance and accuracy you're getting there, Rob! Nice job!! Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? While I do my best to try to simplify the learning process, golf is most definitely not easy! In terms of building in this straight arms feel, baby steps and repetition rule the day. Done properly, those post-ball divots will begin to appear over time! Have fun out there! Tom
I remember covering that .38 Special jam! Great song and song reference to this tip. I'm still here! I'm still standing. Oh, this tip does wonders of dropping that trail shoulder, too, on the downswing! 👍⛳🏌️♂️
Where have you been, John? You were a regular in the Members' Forum, and then suddenly you disappeared. I hope you are well, and I and many others in the SG Community hope to see you participating there again soon! Tom
This really hits home for me; lead arm breakdown is a huge issue that I deal with as I can barely make my lead arm go to ground parallel across my chest before it folds like a cheap card table!! It may be my age 50 and lack of flexibility in that stretched out, straight position. I'm just picking up golf again after a 14 year "layoff" where I quit due to the frustration of it all. I'm just wondering if I should halt my practicing until I get some flexibility back? I love your ideas and would love to learn where to start, basically as a beginner all over again; which steps to focus on first as I build a swing
Hi Frank, You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing and experience great ball striking. A significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? This would be my best recommendation for you to put the past behind you and get on a proper path towards consistently crispy ball striking and true enjoyment of this great game. That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. @@SagutoGolf Tom, thanks for the encouragement. I can relate to Dan in this video illustration (lefty and that tight/tense feeling in the lead arm). I'll check out the links you sent me. My main goal is to just be able to play reasonably well; when some of the guys ask me to go play with them, I just want to get it around decently with consistency. Even better if this is not a high maintenance swing that requires tons of practice and time, which I don't have. Next time, I'm in the Grand Strand area, I'd love to stop by and hit some golf balls with you for a check up.
It's definitely a low maintenance swing, Frank, as it does not require continuous micromanagement or timing. The school would be a great place for you, because it's got all the step-by-step instruction for learning the swing in its entirely, as well as a plethora of diagnostics/lessons/drills for resolving a variety of swing, contact, and ball flight issues. FYI, I have phased out in-person instruction so I can further dedicate my efforts in support of the online school. I will, however, continue the V1 Swing Video Analysis lessons as they are instrumental to the progress of my school's members, and these can be done for anyone from anywhere across the globe. This enables me to put my eyes on your swing and offer some very specific observations and corrective action plans if applicable. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf TS

Hi Tom, new student here. Thanks for all the awesome content, I'm looking forward to digging into your course material. I'm watching this video wondering how you reconcile 'push away' with Hogan's magic elbow?
The two are certainly not mutually exclusive, Brian. The "push-away" enables us to retain width in the backswing, while the Magic Elbow confirms that our downswing is on a good path. Hi Paul, Per @STRoNG iSLaND's reply, it’s essentially the same swing with every club; there are just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. "Shiver me timbers" haha, I could hear the chuckle. Lead arm is so huge man. When I'm showing people S&T ... I focus on that first. It's amazing at how many people freak out and start thanking me. Then I show them the sticks and they can't stop texting me throughout the week lmfao. It's a beautiful life in the land of milk and honey. I'm almost 2 full golf seasons in on S&T and I've almost gotten 4 under par at my course. 3 under is my record. Just gotta have consistent greens... ours aren't the best. They change every hole, kinda thick (giggity). But eh it's a new challenge. Every obstacle is a addition, not an annoyance.
The lead arm is our circle's only radius, Johnny, so its importance absolutely cannot be overstated. That's some fabulous playing, my friend. Very well done and crispy!!! BTW, your timbers will be starting to shiver up there pretty soon, so be sure to post that 4-under before they do! Tom
@@SagutoGolf AS long as there isn't any snow I'll be hitting ha. GOt myself some callaway gloves that go into cold weather nicely. Ball doesn't fly as well, but ya know, golf. I've been close multiple times to hitting 4u, but it's usually do to a pulled drive/bad approach, or a putt from 6-10 ft that just misses past. Putting is simple as ever with lead arm straight too, literally just pull back with my right hand and I can put the ball anywhere. I've gotten a lot better at breaking up my reads too, on long ones anyhow. Got an eagle out of the bunker the other day too! First one out of the sand. Idk why people make it so difficult in sand haha. I feel like it's not a threat whatsoever unless you're right under the lip.
@@NonnyStrikes Plus you can get plenty of roll across those frozen water hazards..... Nice job with the putting. You definitely can't get to even par - much less under par - without flatstick proficiency!
this is what i learned from watching seve, when i was young. i was taught to hinge my wrists up, and when a player does that it causes the left arm to bend and puts the club on too steep an arc. i saw how seve created a lot of extension whilst cocking his wrists, in the takeaway. so, i just simply thought of creating more extension. and, really i think this made me unconsciously press down with the heel pad of my left had to cock my wrists, instead of hinging the left wrist up. and, when we press down with the heel pad of the left hand- when the club is parallel to the target line- it does create extension.
Yes indeed - that type of "pushing away" will certainly create the desired extension while allowing those wrists to react properly andon autopilot. Thanks for sharing! Tom
@@SagutoGolf thanks for that. i think, also, that trying to turn the shoulders 90 degrees can cause the left arm to bend. it causes the shoulder muscles to tighten and can cause the shoulder to collide against the chin and a player then has to bend the arm to compensate. and, when the left shoulder is tight and twists off to the right the shoulder joint cannot stretch in its socket. we are told that we have to focus on making a full turn to complete the backswing. that is wrong. the backswing is only complete when the shoulder joint has stretched in its socket. and, when the shoulder joint stretches in its socket it helps to create tilt and get a player into a level left position at the top.
@@DASH1ful As I regularly tell folks in the school, don't worry so much about 90 degrees (or getting to parallel) - just try to feel and ingrain your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete and the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees. This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur: 1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift 2) the wrists will break down 3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side 4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball 5) weight will shift into the trail side Cheers! Tom
@@SagutoGolf absolutely. a player can only swing within their parameter. if i try to get to 90 degrees i only get to about 45 degrees; but when i relax the shoulders and establish heel pad control with the left hand, in the waggle, and just feel the pressure in the heel pad extending the left shoulder joint in the socket i do get to 90 degrees, at the point where the club is still at its highest point of elevation. but, one major swing secret that hogan discovered just before he won the u.s open, unlocks the backswing completely. and, had he put it out into the public domain the game would be a different game now. but, instead he did exactly the opposite, in five lessons. he discovered that if a player activates the muscles in the left side of the right leg, at address, it cocks the head to the side slightly. and, then when a player actively cocks the head to the side in the takeaway it moves the right hip back. and, this completely unlocks the swing.
Glad you enjoyed the episode, Russ! Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you - In Stack & Tilt you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. There's no "weight shift" into the trail side, and the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing! Cheers! Tom

Tom, how do I balance this with keeping the connection right arm from one of your other videos about Ben Hogan, and keeping the connection with the upper arms?
There's no conflict at all, Louis. This is simply a "feel" for those golfers who are prone to a breakdown of the lead arm. We absolutely can - and should - keep the lead arm straight while maintaining our connections. I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason is why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school is so effective! Tom
@@SagutoGolf thanks for the clarification and relating the importance of the potential disconnection many golfers, including myself, encounter. I regularly over analyze and out-think myself into having a horrible golf swing. Perhaps when you can take Saguto golf on a Midwest tour and have a clinic day. I’d sign up if at all possible. Us pseudo geriatric golfers appreciate your infusion of both wisdom and jovial observations, albeit that it might provoke ineffective swing thoughts multiplying. Happy Friday!
@Louis Pounds - My pleasure!! Now, I can assure you of two things: 1) There will not be any SagutoGolf "traveling road show" anytime in the foreseeable future; 2) With the online school I'm there for you on-demand 24/7/365, delivering the exact lesson and drill content that you want or need to be working on at that specific time, at an annual "tuition" that is the same or less than what you might pay for a one-hour live session (or a traveling road show... 😎) As for the "pseudo-geriatric" thing, a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. As I've often repeated, you don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some serious thought if you're serious about improving (which, based on your questions, you seem to be.)
I'm sorry, Kevin. There is no straightforward answer to your question because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. This is why I do my best to convey multiple feels or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. For some the downswing feel is the lead arm pulling down, for others the trail arm powering through, for others it's both arms, and still others it's the body motion with the arms and club simply along for the ride. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired positions, motions, and crispy ball striking results. In other words, an effective, repeatable golf swing is built on a compilation of personal "feels" that are unique to each of us individually. Over time we ingrain these feels into a complete motion that we can execute without need for mechanical thoughts. We are then able to simply allow our ball striking and shot shape to be our guide, making only occasional minor setup tweaks when necessary. So while this is more of an explanation as opposed to an actual answer to your question, the answer is discovered individually by learning the proper setup and motions, and then understanding how to build in your own unique feels in order to execute them and take ownership of YOUR swing. The structured and sequential mix of learning, understanding, and "feeling" is the reason why the success rate of my online school is off the charts. @@SagutoGolf Thanks Tom. I'll give you credit for part of that. My biggest problem is staying focused for 18 holes. It does help playing for💰 though. As you get older you'll find that out. We always play the tips wherever we go. Heck,I'm 60 and really don't want to move up.
Hay Tom, another great video. A little confused though as I have been working on keeping my trail arm glued to my side and upper chest which seems different than pushing your arms away away from your body. Will go back into the school site and review.
As long as you can keep a tee stuck in both armpits for the duration of the swing, that's all the connection you really need to maintain. If you correctly execute this push-away move to keep the arms straight, those tees will remain in place and you will also find that the elbows work properly together. Proper repetition with shorter swings will eventually build this in. If searching the online school for related content, visit the Get Out and Go Play program, and among those lessons you will find the 90% Weight Forward/Arms Straight Drill. That's a good one. Cheers! Tom
Holy crap this works so good !! My golf coach who I’ve going to over a yr assures me that the left arm breaking down is ok , yet his never does ! I feel maybe these guys just want you to play bad so you keep coming back 💰💰💰
Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Consider this: The swing is a circle. A circle requires a fixed-length radius in order to remain a circle. The lead arm is that radius. Therefore, if the lead arm breaks down you no longer have a circle. Life - and the golf swing - are greatly simplified when looked at through the lens of logic... 😎 Just remember - straight is not the same as stiff or tense; we don't want either of these.

Tom
Nothing better than sincerity. Thanks
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

@@SagutoGolf 👍 Just signed up for your online course. Looking forward to more improvement in my game.
@Average American - Fantastic! Welcome aboard - I'm very glad to have you in the school!!
Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start on your journey to the Land of Ball Striking Bliss:
1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered.
You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf
4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school membership - and begin engaging with your fellow members.
I’m gonna come get a lesson/diagnosis soon!
thanks for sharing before and after of your students lessons
My pleasure - I'm glad you enjoyed that!!
Tom
Tom Saguto golf, this tip on "pushing away" has changed my golf game. Watched it one morning and without any driving range practice went out that same morning and shot the best round that I had shot in more than a year. Thanks Tom.
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated well with you, Kenneth!! Fabulous job incorporating it into your swing so quickly!!
Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!!

I really like how you describe the swing in a simple way. It's not easy to find instruction where someone can describe aspects of the swing mechanics that one can easily capture in their minds eye and take to the range.
Thank you - I sincerely appreciate your kind words and support, and I am very glad to know that my channel's lesson content is resonating well with you
Keep up the great work and have fun out there!!

Tom your instruction is amazing I am hitting it so crispy these days and I owe you.
Well, Paul, I don't see you in my online school so how about enrolling in that as "payback"?? Actually, that won't work because the school is so good and the annual "tuition" is so low that you'll still feel like you owe me..... 😎
I'm very glad to learn of your success. Keep up the great work and keep it crispy!!

Thank you, Tom. When I follow the instruction, magic happens! Going tomorrow to the course and perform this new swing for me.
That's a pretty simple formula, Patrick. Just follow the instruction to keep it magical.....😎
Have fun out there!!

Thanks Tom , loving your instruction , looking at the Ben Hogan tips now .
Thank you Tom Saguto! Your golf instruction is always the best of the interwebs!
I'm glad you enjoyed this episode, @Melba_Toasted, and I'm especially happy to learn of my "interwebs" domination!!..... 😂
Thanks for your kind words and have fun out there!!

38 Special. Love that song.
It's a great one for sure. As a guitarist I especially enjoy the solo at the end. It's definitely not an easy one to play!

Great tip Tom 🏌️ I use a “feel” practice swing for keeping my lead (left) arm straight, by holding my left wrist with my right hand & literally pushing my left arm down during my practice swing, obviously not holding a club, helps me 👍
That's a good clubless drill for building in the feel that can be practiced anywhere. Thanks for sharing, Graham!

This guy is the absolute best, in my opinion, at explaining feels in the golf swing. There are heaps of guys teaching S & T on the net, but there is no one better at explaining how something should feel.
Aaaand, he gives great relationship advice as well. 😉
Ummmm.....I'd be very careful with how you use this single guy's relationship advice......😂
Thanks again for your kind words and support, @Man_Bearpig!!
Yes - I enjoyed meeting you in Myrtle Beach, Samuel! Sorry the lesson was a week late, but I hope you had a great time at the World Am regardless!
Tom
Nice work!!
Tom
Another amazing video Tom thank you..
Thank you, Chris - I truly appreciate your kind words and I'm glad to know that you enjoyed the episode!!
Tom
Brilliant, as always
Always coming back to the same principles
Saguto's stuff is like a puzzle: he gives you a new "piece" in each video, but they all fit together.
Cheers!
Tom

Thanks so much for getting back, always good to hear from you
Just the other day, after much Saguto bingewatching, I FINALLY realized how important the TILT was (yeah, I know you practically strangle the viewer, but I was STILL like "Yeah, yeah, whatever ... tilt, schmilt ... feels too weird")
I finally realized "Wait, I am NOT tilting ... maybe I should do that, especially 'cause this approach is called "Stack and Tilt" (they dropped me when I was a baby)
Anyway, when I started, EVERYTHING you are teaching made sense ... it was like a revelation.
A light shone down from the heavens on me, and the Earth shook ; )
No really, when you get the TILT, everything else falls into place ... like dominos. You can use, that, BTW ; )

Great lesson. Easy to understand. Very difficult to do, especially the divot in front of the ball.
While I do my best to try to simplify the learning process, golf is most definitely not easy! In terms of building in this straight arms feel, baby steps and repetition rule the day. Done properly, those post-ball divots will begin to appear over time!

Hi Frank,
You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing and experience great ball striking.
So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result.
You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf

Any differences when using this method for Driver or Fairway Woods?
No difference at all, even more important to keep arms straight with longer clubs
Hi Paul,
Per @STRoNG iSLaND's reply, it’s essentially the same swing with every club; there are just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.

Is it the same technique and concept for the driver? Thank you Tom.
Yes, Joseph - it’s essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: th-cam.com/video/7fmtzyH3rsA/w-d-xo.html. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: th-cam.com/video/SLjwU_1Cc7o/w-d-xo.html If you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously.

This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
2) the wrists will break down
3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
5) weight will shift into the trail side
Cheers!
Another great "simple concept". Thanks Tom-looks like you're also keeping 60-70% weight on your left side. Am I seeing this correctly?-Stay safe-Russ
Cheers!

Please show more of these customer improvement videos. They are relatable to average and below folks
I'm glad you enjoyed this, and I'll continue to post this type of content periodically. As for the "average folks", have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of *_former_* "average and below folks" from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner.

Tom, when you bring the arms back down to the ball (pushing away) are you releasing the wrists on impact or doing anything with the wrists whatsoever?
There's no timed manipulations in this swing, James. That's shy the results are so consistent, repeatable, and predictable.
Here are a couple of lesson videos specific to impact and the "release":

@Louis Pounds - My pleasure!!
As for the "pseudo-geriatric" thing, a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.

Sagutoooo you legend!
LOL! Thanks Dan!
Quick questions Tom please - as a right hander - which arm is more dominant in the downswing please
Great video. I have working on pushing my arms away this week but did not realize, until watching this video, that pushing away the arms connects the upper arms to the pecs and puts the elbows in the pro position. Thanks

Great Video again (as usual) Tom! Where can we start adding power to this swing if done correctly? I'm assuming it would be the speed of the turn but wanted to get your opinion..
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Chet! In answer to your question, swing speed builds in as you get more comfortable with the swing and begin to trust it without relying on mechanical thoughts. Hay Tom, another great video. A little confused though as I have been working on keeping my trail arm glued to my side and upper chest which seems different than pushing your arms away away from your body. Will go back into the school site and review.
I feel the same. I tried this and topped/ low slice to the right
As long as you can keep a tee stuck in both armpits for the duration of the swing, that's all the connection you really need to maintain.
Cheers!

Consider this: The swing is a circle. A circle requires a fixed-length radius in order to remain a circle. The lead arm is that radius. Therefore, if the lead arm breaks down you no longer have a circle. Life - and the golf swing - are greatly simplified when looked at through the lens of logic... 😎
Just remember - straight is not the same as stiff or tense; we don't want either of these.
