      Saguto online course changed my game. I was ready to quit until I found Tom and his course. I never had any consistency-I’d shoot an 85, then a 95. I never knew why I played good or bad. I started in April with course. I have not been less than an 83 in last eight rounds. Course changed my game-I would pay 10 times the amount.

    If there's any doubters out there, I can tell you since I started watching Tom and swallowing my pride, my game has been better than ever. The two things that took me from a 6 to a 3 was not shifting my weight from front to back and then to front again. And the proper grip. I wasn't gripping the proper way. Never hit my Irons so pure before. My last 16 of 17 rounds have been in the 70s and one was a 69 which I haven't done in 10 years. Listen to this guy. And his nuttiness keeps you entertained. Thanks Tom. You're awesome.

    Great stuff, Tom! My Dad and I went from getting 10-15% crispy shots and struggling to now around 80-90% crispy shots just watching your videos and following you. We've both added a good 20 yards to our clubs and are having more fun just going to the driving range. I do tend to start slicing (but still make crispy contact) when I get lazy and get too upright in my posture, making my swing out to in across the body, instead of staying bent over and keeping my relationship to the ball (old habits die hard!) but just wanted to tell you that you've made golfing much more enjoyable for the both of us.

    Tom, I’ve saved 17 of your videos and have watched each several times. Even before going to the range today I watch this video. And watched at the range while I was struggling. The before video with Larry is me. And the after video is what caused me to stop and watch while struggling. I watched you hit 100’s of ball into your net and how you put on the “brakes” is amazing. The same results with Larry! I’m finding it impossible! Wish I was closer to SC. Will be going to Edwin Watts this weekend and getting the “Divot Board”.

      I'm glad those lessons are helping you, Ron!!
      With regard to living closer to SC, it really wouldn't matter as I have phased out in-person instruction so I can further dedicate my efforts in support of the online school. I will, however, continue the V1 Swing Video Analysis lessons as they are instrumental to the progress of my school's members, and these can be done for anyone from anywhere across the globe, school member or not. This enables me to put my eyes on your swing and offer some very specific observations and corrective action plans if applicable. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf
      And here's a link if you are not already enrolled in the school and would like to know more about it: saguto.golf
      With regard to the Divot Board, I'm not certain but you may be able to get a better price here by using the SagutoGolf discount: www.divotboard.com/sales/?ref=tomsaguto
      Also on the subject of training aids, have you considered the LagShot that I've demonstrated in some recent episodes? (For example, in this short video: th-cam.com/users/shortsvN7ejhuHqgU ) I think these are awesome training aids for resolving a host of downswing sins, particularly because you can hit balls with them and receive instant feedback. Simply incorporate the LagShot into your practice routine and it will greatly assist you in grooving the proper motions and downswing path. Here is a link to the LagShot website - lagshotgolf.com?ref:sagutogolf - and if you do end up deciding to purchase be sure to enter the code SAGUTOGOLF at checkout for 15% off.

      I must say that trying to build a swing through these YT videos - while certainly doable as you have proven - represents the far more difficult path. That's because the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. Great video! Thanks a lot! Even when I swing more slowly back, the setup is better, Some pro' s say, swing back fast, and you got more ball speed when you go throu the ball, and the ball goes further, but this is not true. It makes more problems!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it!! And for those who say you need to take it back faster, a reminder that we do not hit the ball in the backswing. 😎
      It's so important to feel the transition in order to suppress the "hit" instinct - which plagues a majority of amateur golfers (the primary audience of this channel) - and get the downswing started in the proper sequence. Slowing things down to discover and ingrain our ideal swing rhythm is an excellent way to accomplish that. This does not mean that we’re going to be slow through the zone. We are simply dialing in our tempo for grooving the correct path and achieving consistent sweet spot contact (i.e.: maximizing our “smash factor”). Think in terms of Els, Couples, Matsuyama, Cam Young, Morikawa, for example.

      Thank you so much for your quick an long answer! You absolutely right! "We do NOT hit the ball in backswing" For example. A young guy, which sometime plays with me, has a veeery slow backswing. He swing 2/3 back, stops, look the right...all ok? swings the last 1/3 and then with incredible power throu...backswing 5 sec. PW 140 yard. But this is not for me. I have a sleepy rythm. Like in my music, , guitar playing. Downtempo🤣@@SagutoGolf

  • @mikerodrick2430

    Hi Tom..here's another tip to smooth your swing. All it amounts to is hitting the ball shorter with a full swing. Take whatever your 150 club is & practice hitting it 100 yards with your normal full swing. You can use any club as long as you know how far you hit it. Just hit the ball 2/3 of your normal distance with a full swing. Works really well. The hit impulse is 1 of the worst enemies of recreational golfers & really difficult to overcome which is 1 reason they say golf is 90% mental.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing that tip, Mike. Yes indeed - our well-ingrained instinct to "hit at" something is a difficult one to beat into submission, and it really takes a change in mindset - and plenty of practice - to give up that control and trust that the swing motion is going to deliver the club to the ball at the proper time. And that is how we will find our way to the Land of Ball Striking Bliss!!

I have been watching for quite some time as well,just all went to heck that day. Before this round I'd normally be between 42-50 putting is killing me in that regard. The above scores are a direct result of applying your skills. I share your videos often with some of my stubborn struggling friends. One won't entertain the thought of learning something new which is a shame as he has watched my game improve

      Sometimes that happens out there, Rich, and while it likely frustrated the heck out of you on the course it seems to me like you are keeping a good perspective. That's what is most important!
      An excellent book that may help you with the overall approach to the game and navigating through the hiccups is "Fearless Golf: Conquering the Mental Game" by Dr. Gio Valiante. I’ve recommended it to many of my online school members and have received excellent feedback from them. Another book that I like is "Play Your Best Golf Now" by Lynn Marriott & Pia Nilsson. Beyond that, it’s a good idea to have a reliable “default swing” that you can dial up mid-round when you sense that you are beginning to leak some oil. Many of my members use the swing provided by Drill 2.8 in the online, which is actually the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators. In fact, one member recently played five consecutive rounds using just the 2.8 swing and he shot in the 70’s each time!
      By the way, have you enrolled in the school yet? So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. As an enrolled member you'll enjoy:
      - Unlimited access to comprehensive members-only systems for the full swing.

    Hello Golf Junkies, I have been following Tom for 2-3 years. My handicap was 12 when I started. My handicap got as low as 5.9 this summer but has climbed back to 7.4. tom explains the swing in a simple format and translated to results for me instantly. However, watching Larry, I realized I was still flipping at the bottom and not able to compress the ball consistently. This was such a great video and I cant wait to try it this weekend!

      Hi Alex,
      That's some great improvement over the past couple of years, and now it's time to put your "functional flipper" days behind you and get that handicap trending downward again for good! This impact lesson includes a drill that may help you: th-cam.com/video/Fe2kQ44azJ4/w-d-xo.html. Beyond that, there's plenty of content in the online school that will help you to rid yourself of the flip and put you in the land of consistently crispy ball striking bliss!

      You and countless others, Mike, and that squirrel mode will drive you nuts.... 😂
      Taking it back in rhythm is not too difficult; the challenge is to keep that rhythm at the transition and resist that urge to hit. That's the difference between sequentially unloading in the downswing to create an effortlessly powerful strike vs. crashing and burning with an over-the-top chop.
      Cheers!

    I’ve just started playing golf and I’m so excited to get to the range and try these tips thank you so much. Some times I hit a great shot but the wrong direction. Any advice on how to aim your shots properly as I find this difficult to do when on the course

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome to this great game, James - it's sure to provide you with many years of fun and challenge!!
      With regard to alignment, first of all I strongly recommend using alignment sticks when practicing - at least one for your foot line and another parallel to it for your target line. Practicing like this will help you ingrain the perspective of lining your feet, knees, hips, and shoulders *_parallel_* to the target line. This is critical as many amateurs will aim both the club and their body lines at the target, and this setup flaw is the root cause of many swing issues.
      By the way, as a beginner have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Add a chicken wing to Larry and that’d be me! lol I’ve grooved a move over the years where, in an effort to get power, I pull the butt of the club at the ball from the top and then have to stall and flip to square it up. Good reminder for an old timer who has lost physicality and tries to muscle the ball. What helped me most here was your weight forward lean {80-90%] and left shoulder down. Am I reading that correctly? Be good, stay safe-Russ

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Russ,
      Many folks transitioning from a shift & lift type of move really need to emphasize the weight-forward component as Larry is doing in his lesson. In fact I have a "90% Weight Forward/Arms Straight" drill in the online school specific to this, and you can actually take that swing out to the course and play quite well with it. The key for Larry in this lesson was eliminating that steep backswing and over-the-top downswing, and through his excellent work the result was mission accomplished on both fronts.
      In more general terms, you start with your weight forward (55/45 generally, but up to 60/40 for the longer clubs) and gradually increase your forward weight load to the top (70/30). Add the lead shoulder working down in the backswing (which is really a combination of tilting, turning, and extending), the "feeling" of straight arms (in actuality your trail arm will, of course, fold to 90 degrees in the backswing), and swinging the hands on an inward path, and you've got yourself in a great position at the top from which to transition nicely into the downswing.
      Cheers!

    What do you think about the "one hundred-and-one" rhythm. Does that go in line with that smoother swing?
    Saying/rhythm:
    Onehundred= Backswing,
    and=hips turn, one= arms follow throug into finish.

      As suggested in another comment thread that you participated in, @J B, we each have our own ideal swing rhythm, and your means of setting it with an internal metronome such as that represents an effective way to lock it in.

    Good video Tom! You are my golf game saver. It feels like you were referring to my exact swing issue 0:24. I have the proper setup, proper backswing, proper weight shifting, and proper swing path and plane. However, When it gets to the impact zone, I always try to hit the ball instead of swing thru the ball, and I always try to find the checkpoint(such as both hands pass the ball and then start to straighten...etc) of when to straighten my trail hand. Per your saying, you let the trail hand automatically straightened instead of intentionally adding speed and power to straighten. Do I comprehend correctly? However, I watched your other episode about Ben Hogan's swing and he wished he got 3 right-hand during the impact....doesn't this mean he adds power during the impact zone??

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed the episode, Victor!
      We must never forget the first part of Mr. Hogan's statement in this regard (paraphrasing, of course): "As long as I start the downswing correctly with the lower body, I wish I had three right hands to apply power..." Build in your rhythm first, allowing the arms, hands, and club to respond to your smooth swinging motion. Once you've got that properly ingrained you can work on the various power accumulators, but still that trail arm should not be allowed to fully straighten until after impact, otherwise you'll revert back to "hitting at" the ball.
      Cheers!

    Question for you, as I’ve learned to gas n compression and release after the golf ball has been contacted I find that if I don’t get a decent side bend and my lowers then I cannot contact the ground even if I feel like I’m attempting to release my wrist as fast as possibly. Any tips? And from my recordings I am keeping shoulder plane and I’m not throwing my hips towards the ball. I do set up almost one a one plane swing though. Wonder if that has anything to do with it.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are maintaining your relationship with the ball but still not contacting the ground, then it could be that your weight is not forward enough as the club is coming through the zone. Here's a lesson that may help in this regard: th-cam.com/video/FmdHyl6OBIs/w-d-xo.html
      Also, if you are releasing your lag too soon then that can cause us to rise up at impact and miss the ground. Here's a video on lag:
      th-cam.com/video/bLWekbGl7C8/w-d-xo.html
      I don't want you to feel like you have to time your release. One of the great things about this swing is that it does not rely on timing nor any type of contrived, handsy manipulations.

    Just s question on weight being on the lead leg at address. I load probably 55-60% on the left leg, but Larry really looks like it is easily 80-85%. Is he loaded a little to much or is this where we want to be?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Scott - I just responded to a similar question in this regard. Here's an excerpt from my reply:
      "That's a good observation and ultimately we'll get Larry into a bit more of a "neutral" position (i.e.: 55-60% weight forward at address). However, many folks transitioning from a shift & lift type of move really need to emphasize the weight-forward component as Larry is doing. In fact I have a "90% Weight Forward/Arms Straight" drill in the online school specific to this, and you can actually take that swing out to the course and play quite well with it. The key for Larry in this lesson was eliminating that steep backswing and over-the-top downswing, and through his excellent work the result was mission accomplished on both fronts."
      So yes - in my standard instruction I would have you starting with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increasing that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increasing the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward.
      Cheers!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically a breakdown of the lead arm is a result of going beyond our body's natural stopping point - that's where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete and the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees. If we try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
      A proper setup supports the necessary body motions by allowing the hips to freely turn 45 degrees, with an effortless 45 degrees of shoulder turn on top of that to get to the full 90. When our setup restricts any of these motions the body stops prematurely, and that's when we are compelled to try to reach back for more, bringing the above problematic issues into play.
      There's plenty of structured and detailed instruction on how to accomplish this in the online school for just $10/month or $99/year.
      Cheers!

    • @SagutoGolf

      Hi Jack,
      Pulls typically occur when we don't have enough weight forward at impact. You start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. If we don't get enough weight moving forward on the downswing the necessary targetward lateral hip slide will concede control to the rotational hip motion, shifting the low point of our swing backwards and rerouting the club across the ball. There is likely some content that you may find helpful in this regard within this playlist of my downswing related videos: th-cam.com/play/PLV62KxT7Mp7Jxi814RQddJx3wkHqxqhio.html.

      I fully understand that, Jack, and because of those stubborn "shift & lift" ghosts of swings past many of us must devote a fair amount of time towards really ingraining the weight forward component. In fact, one of the most popular "ghostbuster drills" in my online school has the golfer hitting balls with 90% of their weight on the lead leg. It's not easy at first, but once mastered it delivers consistently crispy impact with a nice push-draw shape.
      Cheers!

      Larry has been focusing on keeping his weight forward. Many golfers find it beneficial to exaggerate this feel in the early stages of their transition from a "shift & lift" style to this very centered swing. In fact, in my online school I even have a drill called "90% Weight Forward", which has been highly effective in helping members really ingrain this component into their swing.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @N Rago - There are a few variables that can result in fat, thin and/or topped shots, and if I blindly guess at the wrong cause then it may only serve to exacerbate the issue and be detrimental to your overall swing. However, if you're willing to risk a self-diagnosis I'll give you two of the more common reasons for what you are experiencing, and they both have to do with the low point of the swing being behind the ball: 1) Your weight isn't forward enough at impact (this video may assist you here: th-cam.com/video/x1IudE_9e5g/w-d-xo.html); and/or 2) Improper wrist and trail arm action (these videos may help with #2: th-cam.com/video/Fe2kQ44azJ4/w-d-xo.html; th-cam.com/video/ynLkzwK_SBg/w-d-xo.html).

    I love your videos Tom, and I plan to apply what is in this one. However, I think it is absolutely ludicrous to charge $120, for the divot board. I bought an excellent 4×5 golf mat for that price. That is the problem with many training aids today, they are WAY overpriced.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      All I can say, Leonard, is that my practice sessions are benefiting immensely from the Divot Board, as it provides the exact type of impact feedback that hitting mats are incapable of delivering. Think about it, though - we spend so much money on our clubs only to get frustrated with them because we're still using that same dysfunctional swing. For the price of a decent new wedge, this training aid will help you groove your impact and perhaps rekindle your love affair with that old wedge that you were going to toss into your spare bag... 😎

    One other comment I would make is that your golfer Larry looks like he must have at least 90% of his weight on his left side. His head is WAY in front of the ball at address. I may be wrong, but I don't believe that is how you suggest we address the ball.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Leonard - That's a good observation and ultimately we'll get Larry into a bit more of a "neutral" position (i.e.: 55-60% weight forward at address). However, many folks transitioning from a shift & lift type of move really need to emphasize the weight-forward component as Larry is doing. In fact I have a "90% Weight Forward/Arms Straight" drill in the online school specific to this, and you can actually take that swing out to the course and play quite well with it. The key for Larry in this lesson was eliminating that steep backswing and over-the-top downswing, and through his excellent work the result was mission accomplished on both fronts.
      Cheers!
