so in japanese is: Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, but this name is too long even for japanese people, so they instead call it DanMachi (dan from dangeon and machi from machigatteiru)

Try to thing of that for every single anime you watch, they might be called any of the 3, most people call them by the short name, eg, this one is mostly called danmachi (for the slime one it would be called tensura.... ten from tensei sura from suraimu(slime))
ohhh Danmachi such a underrated one just watching the MC's growth is satisfying. First 2 seasons are wholesome but season 3 and 4 get darker with 4 being the darkest and most recent season. Sajou no hana is one of my favorite bands so I definitely love op 4.

IMHO, just the opposite, overrated. At least at the time of the release of the first and second seasons. Now this anime is deservedly in the shadow of most new series.

It's not underrated. The show destroyed itself. It should have been just Hestia, Bell and Lili. With Bell being weak compared to his enemies.
But no, they turned it into the typical and boring anime where the protagonist is OP and has 500 people around him.
To your question about the fight scenes. They vary from season to season a little bit on how well they adapted them from their source content. But there's a fight about halfway through S1 that is one of my favorite of all time in Anime. The music and everything swells so perfectly
the AMV of centuries of that fight is legit what got me to watch the anime, def not a mistake, love this anime

Danmachi is definitely what you could call a cheeky anime. Season 2 especially is pretty horny. Opening wise, it is not amazing but season 4 op 2 is really good. Helps that it is actually sung by Saori Hayami, one of my favorite VAs and one who voices a very prominent character for that season.
Season 4 is also imo the best the show has ever been. The older season does cut quite a bit from the light novel but season 4 has been pretty faithful.

@@GOTGames How I (and many other Danmachi fans I have seen) see it is like this -
Season 1 - Light-hearted anime about dungeon diving. Has very good production (very expressive framing, character acting and character progression). There's a fight mid way into the season that ramps things up a notch with much higher stakes; It is also complemented with some of the best action choreography and music I have seen which hypes the fight up a lot.
Season 2 - Story becomes more lore-heavy and complex with inter-faction conflict (people vs people rather than people vs monsters). The story is good in the light novels but is undercut by a very rushed production. Many people consider it the worst season out of all four. Still fairly alright as a binge imo.
Season 3 - Story becomes darker and lore-heavy, both in the dungeon and in the inter-faction aspects. Conflict is now much larger with the entire city being involved, while also having much more complex stakes (Not just lives' being threatened, but people's reputations are at stake with the core theme of justice being questioned). Production is good. Story is still rushed, but not as bad as season 2; There are many climatic moments to enjoy and the story grows in unexpected ways every episode.
Season 4 - The best season imo, adapting one of the darkest and most tense arcs in the series. This is basically a pure dungeon diving arc where the author decided "fuck it, you guys want despair in the dungeon, I will give you despair". Some episodes have me literally sitting on the edge of my seat hyperventilating from the tension, but that just makes any small victories that our characters get hype as all hell. Production is also comparable and if not better than season 1, with 22 episodes given to flesh out the 3 light novel volumes it is adapting.
TLDR; Danmachi is getting more complex and darker through the seasons. What started out as a superficial harem/power fantasy, quickly transforms into a show about inter-faction conflicts, life-threatening survival and heroic justice. While anime cliches still exist in later seasons, attributing it to just be a mere harem show is like calling Attack on Titan a show about "killing titans" -- You aren't wrong, but you are missing out on the other 80% that makes the show fun as all hell to watch.
DanMachi is the just shortform of the japanese name.
It starts out cheeky and more funny but also has its dark elements and over time gets progressively darker as seen in the op's
I'm pretty sure you would like it as it does have quite the simular vibes as slime, especially at the beginning.
Danmachi's mc growth makes you want to root for him. Unlike other anime where the character starts out strong, we see Bell working for it and see the potential he has.
Danmachi's endings are also worth checking out, so I hope there will be a reaction to them in the near future.

I just caught up with the third season a couple weeks ago and I forgot how much I liked the show.
this series is fantastic. DanMachi is the short hand for the full Japanese title, where as "Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon?" is the english translation of the full japanese title, if that makes sense. Danjon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka
I would say more like the english title is an adaptation rather than a translation, since the japanese is something more like "Is it wrong to expect encounters in a dungeon?"

This series is similar to Slime in that it mostly has a lighthearted atmosphere, but very serious moments every now and then. Overall, I do agree that Danmachi is more serious than Slime (and also less cheeky). Also, the fight scenes are amazing.

When he says "cheeky" he is referring to ecchi. Danmachi is more ecchi than slime.
The author just wanted to call it Familia Myth, which IMO is a much better name and fits the story. Their editors basically forced the long ridiculous name to give it a competitive edge against other works in the genre.
This is what I'm gonna go around calling Danmachi. Familia Myth is apt and it's fittingly namedropped in 113 during Hermes' insane monologue tirade.
But nothing will ever top the series finale when Bell finally says "Is it Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" to his daughter and then Dungeons all over the place right before the credits roll.
There is kind of a sixth one, there's a spin-off anime ("sword oratoria") that shows the first season through the eyes of another character. Very very cool (more light hearted, but the implications you get from the alternative perspective raises the hype even more).
SO season 1 was a disappointment. Lefiya is too annoying. The LNs are so much better and get even better after the S1 ending point. Omori himself was not happy with how JC Staff handled it (or seasons 2 and 3 of Danmachi which is why he is consulting this season).
it does seem to get way more serious im on latest season now and i loved this anime since its season 1 years back and the music in it is just a masterpiece
I would very much like to recommend you watch the Blood Blockade Brigade openings and endings. Its a hilarious and zany series with a lot of action and amazingly animated series, and also fairly short, so I think its one you'll want to pick up!
When you asked about the fight scenes: YES. They are awesome. The opening/ending music tone and the name of the anime do not match the epic level fights that happen and the serious tones and world building. It is a unique take on dungeon crawling anime that draws on real mythological lore and deities. There is a level of mystery beneath the surface that is easy to overlook. The cheekyness is basically comedic relief between serious bits. Can't judge a book by its cover for this one.

Season 1's fight scenes were good especially the fight against the minotaur but season 2 was kind of meh because they shortened a lot of the fight scenes. Season 3's fights were good too but could have been better. Season 4 which is currently airing is as good as if not better than season 1. Its certainly more brutal at least
It started out light hearted but most of the characters have backstories with dark and/or serious themes that are realistic. Alcohol addiction, pride, being orphaned, self esteem issues, idealistic beliefs, abuse, survivor's guilt, prostitution, etc. Many of the monsters they fight are based on mythical creatures that you would commonly see in RPGs
This show is pretty good. After watching the first season I had to start reading the books because I didn't want to wait

I like this series alot. Season 1 had one of the most intense fight scene I've ever seen. Differently watch this at some point, I'd like it to the next big anime he watches but I'm thinking the bigger ones are more likely to get voted in next.
This is a sneaky good anime - good in a way you would never expect a series named "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" would be. The story goes (whether it's actually true - shrug) that this was not at all what the author wanted to name the series - the original name was "Familia Myth" (which is included in the logo for the series). But after signing the contract to have the book series published, the marketing department of the publishing house told the author that they can't publish the series with that title - and after some convincing, we have the title we have now. And it might be one of the most misleading titles ever as there is very little in the way of our MC trying to pick up girls in a dungeon - even if nearly every woman in the series does fall in love with him. It is simply a very solid non-isekai power fantasy.
This. I watched the first episode just to have something weird to laugh at. By 2 or 3, I got the "Wait, this might really be good", and that was that.
Actually, there is a 6th op, it's for the "spin-off" to season 1, it's called Danmachi Sword Oratoria ^^ I really think you should watch the show, the spinoff after season 1 and the OVA's after each respective season
I really like this Anime. In my opinion, it is a great successor to reincarnated as a slime. The name doesn't have much to do with the plot. It tells you one of the reasons why he wanted to be an adventurer. (in episode 1 he has just become an adventurer)

If you're into reading at all, I recommend the light novels for this series. They're really good, and have some of the best writing of any light novels. The majority of light novels have pretty lackluster writing, but DanMachi is one of the few exceptions
I love it, after this season is over I will probably buy the Light Novels of it aswell (Rip my money). Hestia is brestia a- sry I mean Hestia is Bestia!
Ryu is best girl. Aisha is next. Then Tiona and Ais. Hestia needs to move on. Light novels are really good and some aren't really "light" (looks at volume 14).
More cheeky... BUT I've watched lots of people react to it and no one has gotten into trouble for cheekiest scenes. Prolly mostly because they're done as comedy at the expense of the protagonist. I'd say the Op.s are an accurate representation of the overall tone of the season.

Dan Machi is great! (think we have all just resorted to that name because of the length of the English one) story follows a kind hearted kid trying to become an adventurer and watching him grow is great. The cheakyness comes from literally one character and that's it.
honestly, the name very poorly reflects the show. while the art style suggests one thing, the story is actually very dramatic. And yes, the fights are awesome, no doubt!
Danmachi is a great anime and I enjoyed a lot, I think you would like it becouse it has similar vibes than tensura un some aspects while being a totally different anime
You would definitely enjoy it. The only problem that I find, being myself a big fan of this anime, is that they added too much fanservice to the anime (which is obvious, since what they want is more sales) but I assure you that the story is good and it gets very dark at times; Anyway, my opinion is that you should see it.
Fun fact, the vocalist for OP 5 is also the VA for the blonde elf (Ryuu Lion) as season 4 (OP's 4 & 5 are both for S4 beacuse it's 2 parts) revolves heavily around her character, more so part 2 of S4 than part 1. In summary the first 2 seasons of this show are almost like prologue, season 3 is where you start getting more story/lore involved and the pace starts to pick up more, season 4 is much darker than the other seasons and there's more content since it has 2 parts.
Now that season 4 is officially complete I'd put Danmachi high on the list of recommendations because prior to season 4 there wasn't a lot to get newcomers hooked upon completing the series however I think season 4 is the turning point for expanding the fanbase tremendously.
If someone started watching when there were only 2 seasons out they might have finished and thought "this was alright but also felt lacking so I may or may not watch future seasons" but if someone were to pick the show up now and watch from season 1 to the end of season 4 I think they'll be hooked for all future seasons.
Danmachi would honestly be a perfect replacement for slime.
Very underrated. If you liked reincarnation as a slime then you will definitely like this. I like seeing characters grow in any type of show so this checks that box big time for me.

The 6th opening was probably for the side story Sword Oratoria I love the show its fun and I enjoy the world characters and power scaling system the last 2 OPs might be my favorite I know the author worked as a consultant on S4 the major gripe I hear against it are the LN readers who complain about cut content but that just means the LNs are also worth reading to me

danmachi is a portmanteau of the japanese name of this anime (Danjon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka) by combining parts of the “danjon” which is romaji of the english word “dungeon” and “machigatteiru” which is more harder to translate but simplified into english as “wrong” to get “danmachi”
its how words and phrases is abbreviate in japanese by combining the first kanji or syllable together though unlike english portmanteau there is no combined meaning and serves more as an shorten/faster way to say soemthing instead
Also theres the lesser known less talked about Sword Oratoria Is It Wrong To pick up Girls In a Dungeon On The Side That happens both during and imbetween the events S1,2 and i think S3 of Danmachi/ is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon and what Sword Oratoria is about giving characterazion,story and backstory to characters we know exist in the main series and help out a lot but are not given a backstory in the main story ( other then oh yeah them there super strong )
This was my first anime I watched back in 2015, I would absolutely reccomend it. Perfect for a twitch watch along since it is a bit less popular show now
It has a lot of silly lighthearted and *cheeky* moments lol, and they’re great, but the main plot and the fights are what is really great. It has pretty dark moments even in season 1, but you’re right, season 4 took a massive tone shift and got so much more serious, it’s incredible
IMO, season 1 and 4 are incredible, 3 is very good too, 2 is the weakest but still enjoyable
And if you want some *extra cheeky* but still safe for twitch lol, each season has an extra OVA episode which are hilariously stupid, they’re so good

There is actually a 6th one - it is from the Season 4 part 2 - the darkest opening yet. It just came a few weeks ago, that is why you probably missed it.
The monster you saw in the 4th season opening (5th opening) is a mild spoiler, but what you don't know - doesn't hurt! Yes, it is TERRIFYING with a reason.
Danmachi and Slime are like twins - when there was no Danmachi, you would go to Slime, and vise-versa when seasons aired. Anime gets darker and more serious as seasons continue, just like Slime.
Yeah, if you liked Slime and enjoy the Guild Adventure Dungeon instance anime theme, or just like playing MMO/MMORPG, then you will highly enjoy this.
I strongly suggest this anime after slime, it's full of emotional and amazing scenes.

personally, the first season was boring for me. I watched thanks to the cheekiness and contine the show only thanks to lore explanation videos. I'm happy I did because as easy to notice the show becomes good from the 2th season and awsome from the 3th.

A lot of anime fans do this since these super long titles get annoying to say. Take Slime for instance, TENsei shitara slime (SURAimu) datta ken is shortened to TENSURA. For any confusion suraimu is the engarish (the action of a Japanese person pronouncing english words that their language doesn't have the proper phonetics to pronounce IE the letter L is not part of their alphabet) for the word slime.

The series is called "Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka", meaning roughly "Is it wrong to pick up girls on a Dungeon?", but, since the name is soooooo long, they just call it "Danmachi" (Dan, from Dungeon, and Machi fron Machigatteiru).
Also, there's a spin-off series called "Sword Oratoria", so that may be why someone told you about a 6th Opening

This anime is a good anime but just that. I think there are better anime to see then you don't need to see this one. I suggest you react to Summer time rendering and Kingdom openings. These two are incredible but not very famous.
i think is more cheeky than slime, so much cheeky, but when you see the anime not is important is at the same level of cheeky at Food wars (sorry for my english)

As a lover a good story, i find this anime leaves me clueless, slime is way better and even slime (that i love) isn't honestly that great

There are some light-hearted moments of this show. But yes, more serious moments than Slime.

I really love this series. Still haven’t watched Season 4 yet since it was split into two parts and I’m just waiting for them to finish so I can binge it but yeah, it is pretty good and from what I’ve heard of Season 4, it’s actually amazing. Out of all the seasons, I think the weakest one would be season two for me since nothing really much happen and not much dungeon exploring which season three got back and it’s really awesome whenever they do scenes inside the dungeon!
When you get hit with the answer to the question "Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?" in Season 3, you just can't help but bawl out. That should hype you up into watching it. 😉
Danmachi is my favorite in the "too long title with random unexplained rpg mechanics fantasy land" shows. Watching MC's growth is a great journey to go on. Also you missed the spin off's op which is great as well.
You're right on both accounts of the name. We got so many long-named anime series, you'll either hear the long Japanese name, the long English name, or the shortened name. So, most people would use the shorthand. This series' full title is "Danjon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka", so they just took the first syllable of the first word Dan, and Machi from Machigatteiru. Just something to better roll off the tongue I guess, easier to remember.
The show is slightly less cheeky than Slime since I'd say its mostly Hestia (Bestia) that is cheeky rest is more toned down. As for the title, there is the full japanese title, translated long title and then you have a "nickname" Danmachi since full title or translation are too long. That happens with quite a few animes that are based on a ligh novel with extremely long title.

I think its more accurate to call it danmachi or familia myth but lots of people call it danmachi.

This one's definitely underrated. You would definitely enjoy this one from what I can tell. Although it probably isn't popular enough for that to happen.
It has cheeky elements but the world building is pretty good and interesting.

Familia Myth was the name of this light novel series, but, someone thought it wasn't nearly long enough to say "This is a light novel," so, it was changed to Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon, which now gets shortened to DanMachi. My fingers hurt after typing all of that.
WONDERFUL, long series of anime. It's in season 4, part 2 right now. I think you'd love it.

Danmachi is an anime with a lot of potential that kinda didn't carry over. First season was the strongest, and from there on it kinda was average at best. The plot itself try way too hard to be serious but failed. It's a combination between My hero academia and Slime isekai. In which I mean that it's kinda a mix between both , but fails to deliver at the same level (in terms of comedy, cheekyness and seriousness).
As for 'if you would enjoy it', I think yes. Being new to the world of anime means that you can watch anything and enjoy it, and this show is barely a little bit above average (7.5 average score on myanimelist on all 5 seasons combined).
PS: if the characters themselves didn't had those PLOT assets, I bet the show would decline to a 6.5 at best. As for others who read my comment I dropped at season 4 part 1 mid season.
The newest season is a must watch

There is a spinoff series called Sword Oratoria in which they only did one season which covers events that happened in the first season from the Loki Familia perspective. That opening is good too
