More than family drama, I´d say it´s village wide drama... as for the plot, well... you´ll be pretty lost during the first couple of arcs. Hell, you probably will be lost till season 2 starts. Because this show is an evil bloody mess. But then it starts making sense... or so you think, because the last season made me go bananas.
this is definitely a "go in as blind as possible" type of anime. it'd be difficult to explain anything without spoiling bits and pieces. it's a fantastic show. i love it. i think you'll enjoy it.
@@GOTGames I think there is one thing you should know before jumping in. The first two seasons are a part of the same plotline and you really do need to watch them both to understand everything.
Higurashi is really good in making you forget its a horror anime with fun little children just playing then suddenly there is a nail gun in someones head etc
@@jupiter926 Not saying you would necessarily have liked it even if you continued, but you seem to have left _just_ as things were starting to pick up :P
Flowers don’t always means that something is happy or picturesque, flower has their own language and depending on what flower is being used it can even have a hidden meaning Popularly used in anime is the Lycoris Radiata aka the red spider lily, equinox flower, corpse flower or as its name in Japanese; higanbana or manjushage and are symbolic of “final goodbyes” typically someone or something dying
Yep, for exemple in the first Tokyo Ghoul opening, they appear somewhere in the background in a sneaky meaningful way and it becomes an recurring theme in the anime. They appear in so many other shows too from Demon slayer to Dororo. The meaning of the Lycoris Radiata in the japanese culture is explained in the Jigoku Shojo (Hell Girl) show, an anime I'd recommend, it's quite underrated as an horror show. I find the flower so pretty but in anime it's almost as ominous as the Dead-mom hairstyle xD In short, don't trust too much anime with flowers and/or butterflies in the opening/endings, especially if among said flowers are red spider lilies!
@@mikidream7314 yea it has deep roots in culture which is why it’s used so symbolically but at the same time it’s overused because of it that there is nothing subtle about it anymore
Higurashi is actually pretty deep, despite the horror you see only on the surface of the water... Lots of interesting and important philosophy in the story. It would be Really Worth it if you give it a try. In summary, Higurashi is the anime of a lifetime.
OH MAN I wasn't expecting this at all!! This anime is GREAT! So... It's actually pretty hard to give an explanation without spoiling anything. What I can say is, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is based on a series of Visual Novel. This is an anime FULL of mistery, suspense, drama, horror and GORE, *LOTS* of gore. I really recommend it BUT it can be kinda hard to get started with it, the first two episodes are pretty hard to watch when you're not used to this kind of anime 😅 but I swear it's TOTALLY worth it.
Yeah I remember it took me like a whole month to finish watching those first episodes, I was too young and it was hard to understand, ( "understand"... Or maybe Accept a reality like that, pretty fckd'up)
"Who am I rooting for?" Is a great way to sum up this series. You're constantly having to ask yourself, "who can you trust?" Who is friend and who is foe? What is real and what is an illusion? Mystery vs truth. Having faith in yourself and others is not always an easy path to walk. An awesome series with many twists and turns.
I NEVER CLICKED ON A VIDEO SO FAST BEFORE!!! Higurashi is a series that is very dear to me (my profile pic is a Higurashi character as well). I always try to promote the Visual Novel for Higurashi since it delves into each character's personality and actions more but in the end it's a personal choice for people, anime is cool too. Glad you reacted to the openings for this
x2 to everything you said, I always promote the visual novel to everyone I can since I read it for the first time years ago. Is a complete masterpiece, literally improved my life
@@CyrSciencer I agree. The Visual Novel is the best way to experience Higurashi. But some newcomers to Higurashi might not have the time for spending hours on the Visual Novel/Sound Novel or they might just want a more bite size way to experience Higurashi. So yes the Anime has flaws for sure. The Anime is an okay starting point. But honestly the Manga dose a better job than it's Anime counterpart with being more bit size while still remaining more true to what Higurashi stands for and means with it's philosophy /message.
@@GOTGames i was as well. lmfao. its the OP for the OVA series it has no plot relevance what so ever and i dont think ive ever seen those episodes. correct me if im wrong fans but i dont think you need to watch those OVAs. your reaction to it was funny tho. anime does this stuff with popular series they make completely slice of life OVAs that have nothing to do with the story most likely with fan service episodes. lol
This is an anime where everyone is a "villain" at one point per say. Its up to you to piece together the truth behind the overarcing mystery with the clues given over seperate self contained arcs. The characters are all so good, esp for a horror. You come to understand and empathise with them and root for them to escape the cycle of tragedy. The plot: Higurashi is set in 1980's Japan in a rural village Hinamizawa. When Keiichi Maebara moves there from the city of Tokyo, he quickly becomes fast friends with his classmates, all seems well. It all takes a horrific turn when the village's annual cotton drifting festival arrives and Keiichi learns that previous years there have been murders and disappearances on that same night. All seeming to be connected to the village's worship of their local guardian deity, Oyashiro. The further Keiichi digs, the deeper he falls as he soon begins to question who and what he can trust. This is a story of trusting and believing in your friends. Overcoming past traumas and current problems by confiding in one another, rather than dealing with it by yourself. The value of empathy and understanding each other, and reaching out to help. There truly is a beautiful and profound story, underneath this thrilling horror mystery.
Other themes constitute the birth of violence, and the role of cops (therefore the government), the military, interpersonal relationships, social hierarchy, family dynamics and trauma in said birth. There's talk about what narratives (victim blaming, stereotypes of the townsfolk etc.) are believed exacerbating desperation, distrust and yeah, paranoia as you mentioned. I feel like it's one of the few stories that manage to talk about so much with what seems to be a simple handful of characters.
I love higurashi because it's great at building a kind of paranoia. You describing it as two shows in one is pretty close. You get the fun and cuteness between friends, then every now and then you get some little flash that something is just... Off. But hey, happy play time! Then next thing you know the situation goes bad real fast. At first you have no clue why or what's going on, but each season gives you more of the puzzle.
Very true. When I started watching Gou, I was freaking out because they were remodelling the clinic and I couldn't figure out what that was supposed to mean. 🤣
The first season shows mysterious incidents without any explanations (each one takes around 3 episodes). The second season shows the same incidents but it explains what happened behind the scenes. The following one is the cast trying to find a solution to what's happening. This kind of storytelling amazed me since I never saw it before and they did it perfectly. That's why I love this anime so much. I'm thinking of watching the real life adaptation.
I need to watch the rest of the show then, because i just watched the first season and i loved It but i decided to watch the second season later because i had other things to do lmao
Shiki openings and closings are great! You seem to have a similar taste in horror as myself. Huge Supernatural fan here. I think you will really like Shiki and Another as animes to watch.
Without spoilers, Higurashi is a murder mystery series with several twists and many interesting characters. Whether you watch the anime or play the visual novel it's based on, I do think it is a story that deserves your time. In addition, AZKi from Hololive has performed a cover of the first ending, called "Why, or why not?" You should give that a listen too! As for other horror recommendations, I would also say to watch Naoki Urasawa's "Monster". it's a 74 episode series with deep psychological themes. It is a classic and definitely worth a watch.
This is easily my favourite horror anime! Higurashi is a great psychological show and knows perfectly how to get under slowly your skin. It's based on a set of very famous visual novels (all of which were made by a single guy Ryukishi07) and is about the mystery of a few murders in a small village set in the 1980s. Honestly, it's best to go in as blind as possible, given the show is mainly built on horror and mystery. The show can be a bit hard to get into especially as someone new to anime since it loves to slowly build the tension instead of going 0 to 100 in the first episode, and I love that. If you don't mind a slower paced horror, Higurashi is the best you can get for horror in this medium. Also, the first two seasons of the show cover the entire story from the visual novels. You can stop at after these seasons if you want. The Rei and Kira seasons (3rd and 4th openings) are basically spin-offs covering what-if situations. They recently made new sequels (5th and 6th openings) to the finished story but the reaction from the fans was pretty polarizing. Some loved it just as much as the original seasons, some think it ruins a classic story.
Found the newer stuff less nuanced compared to the first seasons and the stile was less appealing, both in writing as well as in visual quality. Would recommend the first seasons though without question. It has a slow and confusing start but is a really good mystery, with a less in your face horror and instead a more subtle one.
Higurashi is really best experienced blind so I hope people don't spoil you too much. And also if you do get around watching it please also watch the gou/sotsu seasons, despite people telling you otherwise, I personally really like them and everyone should give it a chance and form their own opinions on it.
I agree! I wish the ending of Sotsu would be a bit different but, all in all I really enjoyed both the newer seasons and don't get why some people is so displeased with it! But it's personal preferences I guess ^^
@@AzukaLockheart the execution could've been done better and I wish they were more explicit about satoko's reasons because not everybody looks between the lines. but it still keeps ryukishi's core ideas of tragedy and madness coming from real human feelings of love and wanting to belong so of course I'd end up liking it in the end
Too late, some person already explained "spoiler free" the contents of the first seasons and it has a lot of upvotes so he's guaranteed to read that. The fact you don't go into detail of what happens doesn't mean you're not spoiling the twists the show has 🤷
@@humbertochilo88 as long as they don't mention the things with auau and auau's protegee it should be fine, that's the one thing that shouldn't be mentioned tbh
in terms of horror anime... hm. I think you're going to struggle to find a whole lot of openings that reflect the horror genre at the forefront, because a lot of horror anime are either blended with other genres that define the anime more heavily, or they have the horrific element as a twist that sneaks up on you. the closest thing I can think of for horror-forward anime is stuff by Satoshi Kon, with the only TV series being Paranoia Agent (the rest are movies, like Paprika or Perfect Blue) and even then, that's much more psychological, as the name Paranoia Agent probably suggests. tbh, if you want dark stuff and horror, I'd suggest watching Akira... there are some scenes in that which are genuinely uncomfortable to watch, and stick in your mind for a long time after you see them... and it's _because_ the work is well crafted. also... Dorohedoro fits. though it's much more like... it has campy slasher and body horror elements. like, it's a ton of fun on the surface, and the campy slasher vibes are part of that, but then below the surface, there may be real horror brewing in the underbelly of the plot. but that's all part of the mystery elements as things get deeper. idk, it's hard to explain, but it belongs in the discussion. tbh, I think you'd find more horror in manga than anime... then I'd be recommending Junji Ito right away.
You should totally watch this anime if you're into psychological horror, it's REALLY good. I also would recommend watching the Umineko no Naku Koro ni openings (including the Visual novel's). If you ever want to tackle this last one's story, I would recommend the Novel over the Anime, though, the anime is not the best adaptation of the story.
I'm convinced an Umineko adaptation done right would be miles and miles better than Higurashi. Sadly that's not happening. It would require A LOT of episodes which is not feasible.
@@humbertochilo88 Agreed... They condensced it waaaay too much in the anime (plus plot flaws), but I would still love seeing a better adaptation of it someday :')
@@humbertochilo88 there is some stuff in umineko that's been repeated across arcs that they could cut as well as maybe shift some of that dialogue at the start of the question arcs across those arcs so it's not too condensed.
I love how Higurashi's openings are so good at misdirection that you can hardly tell what the series is about just by watching them, the funny part is that the series is also a mess to understand at first xD I would love to see the entire reaction to the series
I love this anime! The first murder horror anime I've watched and it gave me nightmares the first time I watched it lol. Season 1 and season 2 (Kai) are serious and follows the plot and that plot gets more interesting as you continue watching. It's got some mystery and it's got an interesting way of showing you the answer: s1 has the question arcs where you don't get what's going on and s2 has the answer arcs with the explanations. The story is about a town with a dark secret - it looks peaceful until their town festival where someone goes missing and someone else goes dead. The others (Rei and Kira) are specials which meant most of it are more like extra episodes. Rei has a sort of sequel to the series arc that is also dark and Kira has more random fun stories (that's why the OP is more happy than all of the other songs). I guess in a way you don't need to watch these to understand the full story. (It also got the pool episode and a lot of fanservice heavy stuff that you may or may not want to post on your channel lol) Gou and Sotsu are new and are the actual sequel series to the main story. Long time fans of the show (like me) never saw it coming and they were advertised as remakes instead of as an actual sequel. It's gotten mixed reactions for what it... did to the story. It's definitely gorier. "Who am I rooting for?" All of them. Once you understand the story you'd wish they all get their happy ending. (The series set in the same universe, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, also have an anime but it was so terrible that fans want to pretend it doesn't exist. It's got a good OP and ED song though).
I feel a lot of the "mixed" reactions to GOU and SOTSU were by fans who were absolutely convinced those two seasons were finally going to connect Higurashi to Umineko... and they ended up being flat out wrong, so they disparaged those seasons to save face.
@@jdoggivjc Honestly, I'm one of the fans who have mixed reactions but mostly cause of what they did to the characters, especially Satoko. And it's just... the things that happened in it (especially the deaths) felt way more over the top than what the original series did, I guess? I can't elaborate here cause of spoilers but that's how I sum up my feelings on it.
Higurashi starts very light and becomes really dark with a very complex story, really good show in a whole. Another really good dark Anime to check out would be Shiki.
Eiko Shimamiya did the first opening. She is AMAZING! Check out Umineko When They Cry when you get a chance. The first opening for that series is by Akiko Shikata and she is a GODDESS! Her vocal range is nuts!!
So funny seeing your reaction XD, just saying, the 4th happy bouncing opening is from the 10 year commemoration of the series, so it's more like a comedy parody of the main series where all the characters are just having fun, not important to the plot. And this anime is definitely one to go into blind, just know it's pretty confusing to understand what's going on, but the mistery is interesting to see unfold
Higurashi is basically a tone-shift anime. Without spoiling anything specifically, every story starts out all "this is me and my friends, and we have a great life together!" but then something happens that makes one of the characters start becoming distrustful of the others and it keeps happening until it spirals completely out of control and people start dying Rinse, repeat, Higurashi
if you check out the lyrics for higurashi opening 1 the entire theme that spreads through the anime is i every word of those lyrics it fits soo perfectly and almost no hint as to what the hell is going on in the actual opening, this and elfen lied were my rabbit hole into anime, glad you enjoyed it as much as i do :D cant wait to see more
I _must_ recommend The Greatest Living Show by Toby Fox/Itoki Hana. _ESPECIALLY_ if we're talking about anime and horror. it's a music video, and it's all animated by one person. it's an excellent example of surreal shojo horror, which I don't see in animated form, like, ever. I wish stuff like this could be animated more often because that video is hauntingly beautiful and I have been obsessed with it. I want you to see it, it's so good.
I am so surprised and happy to see this reaction! I love Higurashi, it is my favourite anime ever along with Attack on Titan. It is definitely something you want to go in blind for, but I'll answer a few of the questions you had without spoiling anything. Season 1 and 2 are adapted from a visual novel and are the original story. Season 3 and 4 are short side stories that aren't as related to the original, pretty much filler. Season 5 and 6 are a direct sequel to the first two, the idea came from the original author but he wasn't involved in writing them. It is a very dark show, some scenes in the later seasons even had to be censored, but as you saw it also has very wholesome moments, the duality is a big part of the appeal. Story wise it has incredible writing, similar to Attack on Titan where nothing makes sense until it all does, with unbelievable foreshadowing that makes a re-watch just as enjoyable (which would make it better for us if you react to it). It's hard to explain the plot at all without spoilers, but the story has lots of different arcs, each one adds more pieces to the puzzle and teaches you more about the different characters and the overall story. The mystery and suspense draw you in immediately and keep you watching, I binged the whole show in a few days pulling all nighters just to find out what was going on. The story is also very emotional and I guarantee you will love it based of what I've seen of your reactions. There aren't many reactors that have stuck with this show and I would love it if you picked it up soon! It is definitely a show that will do well with reactions, with unexpected twists we want to see your face for and an intricate story you can theorize about, just your thoughts on the opening were interesting for someone who knows the whole story. Sorry this kind of turned into rambling, but I love Higurashi and could probably talk about it for hours.
Talk about finding hope and having ripped from your grasp! This is an anime that I will never forget and a major part of my childhood. The 2020/2021 updated/ continuation anime ties everything together nicely 👌.
I'm so happy that you're reacting to the higurashi no naku koro ni openings, 10/10 recommend it! The horrible animation by deen studio actually works in its favor and the remake (not remake) is beyond amazing
Higurashi is the psychological mystery horror like The Shining or Get Out Only the first two seasons forms the main story of Higurashi. The first season leaves you with questions while the second season provides you answers. The third season contains some optional story which is optional as said. The fourth season contains parody episodes (that's why it's opening was happy and fun) The last two recent seasons is sequel to main story that provides a new mystery. The fifth season provides questions and last (sixth) season provides answers. However this last two seasons got mixed reviews because the last season ruined the potential the fifth season had. So it's not compulsory to watch this two seasons too.
higurashi is my favorite anime of all time and your reaction was amaziung, it is a mysterie horror anime and the fact that you are confused makes it perfect XD
Feels like my requesting for this one finally paid off! A lot of people will say that either the first or second OPs are their favorite (and I would never discount them of their opinions on this because they are great), my favorite is the fifth - I Believe What You Said. Not only do I absolutely love the music, but by the time you get to the end of that particular season that particular song takes on a completely different meaning - the lyrics actually mean something. This is one of those series that you end up having to watch twice - the first time in release order, and the second time where the episodes make sense chronologically, which means rearranging episodes from different seasons .
The fifth opening is the best in my opinion as well, its a shame, that it is connected to a horrible reimagination of the story, was totally unnecessary and robbed the anime community of an actually good remake.
People really sleep on Super Scription of Data too, I love all three of the first season openings. Kira is just its own thing, just gotta embrace the weird of it and roll with the "happy fun hehe" vibes. Gou/Sotsu's openings had to grow on me a bit as I wasn't too keen on the visuals and more "poppy" sound, but I think they're good now, just below 2006-Kai-Rei
One of my fave animes that make use of its character design subversive trope. Cute happy characters, in a close little town, with a whole range of archetypes. Then the real horror kicks in, pretty much right away. The anime is a lot more about building suspense and dread. It's suffering for the characters and audience. Really a journey -
Just because of this I'm subscribing damn I love HIgurashi, pleaaaaaaseeeee do the endings as well, I beg you !! Thank you so much for reacting to this ! :)
I’ll leave a very vague explanation of the show under the cut so you can see if you want to-no specifics, but general info on the plot that will hopefully get you interested in watching! …….. Two words you need to know to understand the show: time loops. The basic premise is that the main characters are a group of school children living in a town with a dark secret that keeps causing them to die, and every time they do, the events start over so they can try to make different choices and prevent the deaths. However, only one girl realizes what’s happening. Season 1 contains the Question Arcs: each is 3-4 episodes and covers one time loop. Season 2 is the Answer Arcs: you see all the loop versions from S1 from different perspectives that explain what forces outside of the friend group caused things to happen the way they did. And with all her gathered knowledge, the girl tries yet again to save her friends and break the loops. Rei and Kira are more lighthearted side stories not considered part of the main plot. I’d recommend watching Rei if only because it brings up some interesting philosophical discussion, but Kira is really just there for fanservice. Gou was originally marketed as a remake, but as it goes on you realize that’s not the whole story. Sotsu is the second season of the “remake” and (as of now) the finale to the whole show.
Great reaction, and your guess on the story is quite spot on. You should definitely start an horror anime. Higarashi when they cry and Another should be in the modern horror genre. Another anime with the same vibe would be Mieruko-chan, which is about a high school girl that can see ghost/spirit. Berserk and Goblin Slayer would be fantasy horror.
Horror anime can be pretty straightforward - shows like "Monster", "Another", or "Shiki" are all happy to show you the kind of story you're tuning into. But sometimes you get a show that hides its true nature for at least an episode or two, so the twists add to the fun but the opening isn't going to be the best representation of the show. Besides "Higurashi" some good examples are "School Live" and "Happy Sugar Life", or for something a bit older you can check out "Narutaru (Shadowstar)".
😂😂 His face trying to understand where the horror is😂. DON'T FALL FOR THE OPs, IT'S A TRAP!!!😂. *When I first watched it, it was recommended to me as a nice anime and I should watch it without searching for any information about it. I never knew I was deceived haha. My shock when things started happening 🤡.
This anime is effectively the equivalent to watching "the Ring" for the first time, except every 2-3 episodes is a new movie that throws you for a loop. Also the openings give away about as much as telling you that "the Ring" is about a VHS or "Blair Witch project" is a student film about a pair of kids going camping. Also I think the Ni Kira opening is either meant to troll new audience members, or it was part of the wave where they basically took a break from the horror part to just have slice of life anime parts for the characters, I can't remember. You are kind of right in that you don't really root for any one character, but it requires explaining the premise. But I don't think I spoil anything if I explain it as, they are basically folk stories about various yakashi or ghost spirits of Japan that do things to people and that's why it seems to work like it does.
I think if you watch the first episode blind, you'll understand the theme and tone of Higurashi in a nutshell. You will _undeniably_ be very confused about halfway through the first season; don't worry, that's perfectly normal and as intended. By the end of the first season, the structure of the show _should_ become more clear. It is a masterful series both from a narrative _AND_ meta-structural standpoint, but is definitely not for everyone. I had to drop it myself at a certain point, not from the content, but from the structure and pacing. And this coming from someone who thoroughly _enjoyed_ Endless 8 (people who know what that means, know what that means). I do intend to pick it back up eventually, but my adult life has left not as much room for anime (much less revisits of older anime) in my schedule.
I’ve been asking for this so long, I was so happy to wake up to this video!! It would be a great Twitch anime, it would be better to watch a few episodes at once rather than one at a time to get the full impact of the change
If anime were ranked from 1 to 10 in terms of complexity, with 1 being very easy to understand and 10 being crazy, Higurashi would be a 10 without a doubt. Basically you watch the first season you don't understand anything, then you watch the second season and your mind explodes because it answers all the questions you didn't understand. Also you should react "Umineko no Naku Koro ni" is from the same creators
I mean the flowers and happy colours are easy to explain. Showing normal and cheerful things in a scary or creepy setting makes it 10x more unsettling. That's horror 101.
@@sagi3933 season 2 of gou lost some of element of mystery and horror. i was hoping that the "mystery" behind the weird mental disease would be solved near the very end however, it became more like a time travel action genera. Of course this is just my opinion and others might enjoy this twist but I was hoping that it would continue the trend of slowly figuring things out in an eerie way. That would probably be my only gripe with the show.
Well i know its year late to explain it but, its about girl named Rika (that girl with blue hair). She lives in loops. I mean by that that if she will die, she will move to next fragment (world). She just want happiness but there is one problem that's called "Oyashiro sama's curse" ( oyashiro sama is that girl with purple long hair). That means if characters get it, they will be like in drugs, started thinking that there are maggots in their bodies and have illusions that they are getting out of thieir body and they think that only way to endure it is by killing somebody. And last season is the same but Satoko (that girl with short yellow hair) will get the same power as Rika. Satoko's goal is to not let Rika go to other school by making plans how to kill her. Satoko tried to go to high school in gou season but Rika wasn't helping her to study as Satoko wanted, Rika was just talking to other girls and Satoko was thinking that rika totally just ignored her. Satoko meet Eua san (Somebody like Oyashiro sama but evil one) and she gived her power to live in loops like Rika, however, Rika didn't know that and Satoko was planning to kill her to stay in Hinamizawa so she can stay with her. At the end they were killing each other when Rika figured out that she lives in loops too, but they maked desicion that Rika will go to her High school and Satoko would wait one year for Rika to go back. Sorry for long text but its not possible to explain it so easy!😅 If u saw this, plz reply! Thx❤
12:46 - To answer that question I'll just say that the anime is an adaptation of a visual novel in which has many possibilities of how events can go down. So like in each season we get several episodes seeing things from different perspectives, or things happening in different order. However, all this does is make you ask more questions, which doesnt really get answered until season 2, but even then you get more questions. And the 2020 higurashi is not a remake as some were led to believe when it first released, i know alot of people and youtubers made the mistake of thinking they could go in with the remake and not watch the original. To keep it simple, the show wants you to piece things together yourself. On a side note the author of this series got tasked with writting the story for the new silent hill game.
as a huge fan of psychological horror this anime is something special, the way it makes you forget it's a horror and out of nowhere puts you on edge is unparalleled imo, cannot recommend this enough
Higurashi is one of my favorite visual novel series. It’s kind of like a psychological murder mystery series, mostly grounded in reality but with some supernatural elements but it rarely shows up. Word of advice, do not start with the new series, it is a sequel and spoils the twist as early as episode 2. It’s even considered unnecessary since it overrode the happy ending the visual novels gave us. It’s also tied to another series called Umineko but that series doesn’t have a good anime so you’ll have to read the visual novel.
- Summarised by ChatGPT (spoiler free my opinion) "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" is a Japanese visual novel, anime, and manga series that revolves around a group of friends living in a small village in rural Japan, and the mysterious murders and supernatural occurrences that happen in the village during the annual Watanagashi Festival. The story follows the characters as they try to uncover the truth behind the events, which are often shrouded in secrecy and suspicion, and as they struggle to survive the deadly consequences that follow.
Holy shit he did it!!I've never clicked on a video so fast higurashi is one of the greatest anime one of my top 3 you should react to the endings too they are great.
Higurashi has one of the best casts and one of the finest stories of any media ever.. The anime adaptation is kinda wild but it's visual novel and manga is where it's at.
the anime originally released in 2006 is actually based on a visual novel, a pc game, the anime was actually finished but in 2020 it was remade, reinterpreted, continued but everyone should decide that for themselves but if you want to immerse yourself in this universe you should too of the 2006 version, even if it looks a bit old 😁
if only they remake the old higurashi's plot and a bit better animation (not the 2020) or made it from mappa this anime totally more horrific than ever, ngl i don't like the higurashi 2020 like in everthing
totally agree. I've watched Higurashi in like 2008 and as a kid I couldn't sleep by the first arc. The paranoia was insane. It's definitely best to watch this not knowing anything from it. I hope they remake it with just up-to-date visuals, I hated the new Higurashi show too I didn't even watch it except for some clips where Satoko is completely crazy lol
The visible confusion at OP 4 was beautiful XD If I remember correctly that was an OVA that was sort of what might have been if * *redacted* * didn't happen. May be wrong.
eiko shimamiya is one of my favorite artists! i hope you looked into her and also this anime. the openings definitely fit the vibe of each season tbh. amazing psych horror with a dash of supernatural mystery tied in. kira is the HARDEST season to get through :')
okay but talking serious, this story is one of the best animes when we talk about a great script, characters development, it have everything, sometimes it have kind too much gore but it's cause the genre of the story. The happy song is like you think an extra most fanservice and comedy, I'm not a big fan of the last season but have most relation with the story, btw a great arc and ending, Higurashi have a LOT of clues in each chapter and extra (except Kira) but I recomend watch all the rest of chapters in order to have a good read in the story, I don't want to give you spoilers about nothing bc everything in this story is part of the experience that represent Higurashi
Ah, finally, a reaction to Higurashi. Man, you are quite spot on on a lot of points you said, yet you are still far away from what's going on. That's just how the show is, the creator Ryukishi07 (real name unknown) is just a insane genius. Also the last thing you said, spirited away, it also fits well with this show, but they call it a little bit differently, but I can't get into spoiler territory. Great reaction. This anime you will either really enjoy or not enjoy at all, but I think you would enjoy it.
Without spoiling too much, the anime revolves around the extreme paranoia you can often find in secluded and remote villages. The whole mystery unfolds slowly and you will be lost the whole time until it just... clicks at one point and you just look back on it all while screaming "HOW THE HELL DID I MISS THAT!?" It is a genuinely unsettling anime and I really pray that you one day check it out properly.
OP 1-3 - original story OP 4 - comedy side stories OP 5-6 = newly written story (animated by different studio) IMO, only the anime covering the original story (Higurashi, Higurashi Kai, and Higurashi Rei) is worth watching.
Some suggestions for obscure animé openings no one is probably going to suggest, but I feel like you've progressed far enough to very much appreciate, so I do recommend them: _Murder Princess_ - You want a hardcore opening? This is it. _Monster_ - You want the opening to a _messed-up_ animé? *This is it.* Trust. Me. _Le Chevalier d'Eon_ - this one is honestly just beautiful, but in this case, the show itself goes hard, after a slow build at the start. Very curious to see how much you can guess. _El Cazador de la Bruja_ - mostly including this one because the song is beautiful, but so is the opening animation, and I think it will leave you delightfully confused by the end.
Another dark dark series is Shiki - The story s about vampires in a sense but a bit different then the regular idea of them and while we have gore and mystery what makes the anime incredible are the philosophical and moral themes and psychological elements
From "horror"-style anime I can recommend Berserk movies and Paranoia Agent. And yes, Higurashi - I watched this anime years ago and some scenes are still stuck in my mind to this day... It's a good horror anime.
Just shortly this series is a masterpiece. The writing of Ryukishi07(author) is very very very complex and goated. Not only this series but his every other series like umineko ,ciconiya and others are same masterpiece.

Ama Lee has sung a few of these in English, and understanding the lyrics makes these ops darker
The anime is about trust and friendship...do you trust yours friends?
Also last two op is also about trust and friendship...and abit of stockholm syndrome and obsession
our man here always wants to have a good and a bad side, he needs to let go of that tendency
this is definitely a "go in as blind as possible" type of anime. it'd be difficult to explain anything without spoiling bits and pieces. it's a fantastic show. i love it. i think you'll enjoy it.
Hmm okay!! A completely blind one it is 💯💯
@@GOTGames I think there is one thing you should know before jumping in. The first two seasons are a part of the same plotline and you really do need to watch them both to understand everything.
@@GOTGames Oh shit, confirmed new reaction series? if so hyped as hell

Flowers don’t always means that something is happy or picturesque, flower has their own language and depending on what flower is being used it can even have a hidden meaning
Popularly used in anime is the Lycoris Radiata aka the red spider lily, equinox flower, corpse flower or as its name in Japanese; higanbana or manjushage and are symbolic of “final goodbyes” typically someone or something dying
I find the flower so pretty but in anime it's almost as ominous as the Dead-mom hairstyle xD
In short, don't trust too much anime with flowers and/or butterflies in the opening/endings, especially if among said flowers are red spider lilies!
flowers and butterflies. Promised Neverland :)
@@mikidream7314 yea it has deep roots in culture which is why it’s used so symbolically but at the same time it’s overused because of it that there is nothing subtle about it anymore
@@esa689 I thought you would say Fatal Frame, but OK 😅😂
Higurashi is actually pretty deep, despite the horror you see only on the surface of the water... Lots of interesting and important philosophy in the story. It would be Really Worth it if you give it a try. In summary, Higurashi is the anime of a lifetime.
Ooooh I do really want to check this one out! Looking forward to seeing it!
Ooooo interested to see what all the fuss is about now 🤔🤔🤔
Yeah I remember it took me like a whole month to finish watching those first episodes, I was too young and it was hard to understand, ( "understand"...
Is a complete masterpiece, literally improved my life
I feel like I'd definitely like to check this one out 💯💯💯
Your pfp a higurashi character 💀
@@somerandomguy4216 LMFAOOO, well it was back when this video was uploaded. If I recall correctly it was a picture of Keiichi😂
I love higurashi! The story is deeper than one might think at first glance and the characters are pretty good! It’s a high recommendation in my book!
yeah, and i recommend the visual novel, it's better and longer, there is a lot of cut content in the anime.
But it's not the same experience
@@CyrSciencer I agree. The Visual Novel is the best way to experience Higurashi. But some newcomers to Higurashi might not have the time for spending hours on the Visual Novel/Sound Novel or they might just want a more bite size way to experience Higurashi. So yes the Anime has flaws for sure. The Anime is an okay starting point. But honestly the Manga dose a better job than it's Anime counterpart with being more bit size while still remaining more true to what Higurashi stands for and means with it's philosophy /message.
It has very good reviews in this community so definitely one I'd like to check out 💯
"I know you're laughing, stop laughing" I admit, I was laughing so hard in this part...

You absolutely _have_ to check out ‘Dear You’-the OST from Higurashi. Seriously the best song I’ve listened to from that anime, love it so much.
I can confirm this, that song is something else
'Nipa Nipa Marching Song' supremacy
My favorite is Yuzuki version
Happily check it out 💯💯
@@GOTGamesListen to the new version called Dear you graduation
For sure a "going in blind" type of anime. It is an anime you got to experience! First 2 openings are amazing, have listened to them so many times.
@@Kaika433 Do it and you will never regret it.

Spoiler much?
"Is this Dragonball Z now?"
thats exactly how I felt watching sotsu near the end.
Shiki openings and closings are great! You seem to have a similar taste in horror as myself. Huge Supernatural fan here. I think you will really like Shiki and Another as animes to watch.
Seconded this. Shiki story is amazing, also the op is really good. Another is fun to watch too and the ed is great
I also agree.
Yes I love Shiki!!!
Agree!
I'd add Umineko no naku koro ni (Umineko - When the seagulls cry) , Jigoku Shojo (Hell Girl), Ghost Hunt and Gakkou Gurashi(School Live!)
Shiki really is one of the best horror animes, especially the OSTs are magnificient.
Yes, must watch without Amy prior knowledge
(It also got the pool episode and a lot of fanservice heavy stuff that you may or may not want to post on your channel lol)
Gou and Sotsu are new and are the actual sequel series to the main story.
I love the legitimate confusion on his face when the Kira opening came up.
Haha. The Higurashi Kira theme starts, and it's always instant confusion in these reactions. Every time. I love it.
Higurashi is basically a tone-shift anime. Without spoiling anything specifically, every story starts out all "this is me and my friends, and we have a great life together!" but then something happens that makes one of the characters start becoming distrustful of the others and it keeps happening until it spirals completely out of control and people start dying
Rinse, repeat, Higurashi
Oh nah, what's next Berserk and Clannad?
Anyways, Another, Elfen Lied and Madoka Magic are some nice of the genre
I want Clannad sooo bad haha
if you check out the lyrics for higurashi opening 1 the entire theme that spreads through the anime is i every word of those lyrics it fits soo perfectly and almost no hint as to what the hell is going on in the actual opening, this and elfen lied were my rabbit hole into anime, glad you enjoyed it as much as i do :D cant wait to see more
Yeah this anime fits in the "op is misleading af" category along some you have already seen 😉
Yes a recommendation to it!
I waited so much for Higurashi reaction! ❤
You should watch the Endings too, the last 3 ones could give you more context about the anime 👍
Higurashi is the psychological mystery horror like The Shining or Get Out
Only the first two seasons forms the main story of Higurashi.
The first season leaves you with questions while the second season provides you answers.
The third season contains some optional story which is optional as said.
The fourth season contains parody episodes (that's why it's opening was happy and fun)
The last two recent seasons is sequel to main story that provides a new mystery.
OP 2 is "chill"... Yeah - about as chill as a song that translates to "Flower of Hell" can be.
YESSSS IVE BEEN HOPING YOUD DO THIS FOREVER I love this anime and all it’s twists and turns
Would recommend the openings to "The promised neverland" Its an anime that's somewhat similar to made in abyss.
Berserk I would agree has some horror elements, but Goblin Slayer not so much. They are both taking place in a pretty cruel world though.
Nice, this is one I had suggested a few times and was waiting for. One of my favorite horrors ever, and most of the openings are fire
This is definitely one I'd love to watch you react to. One of my favourite anime of all time honestly.
One of my favorite shows! Unfortunately the show kinda falls off later on but is definitely worth watching if you are into horror!
What do you mean, where does it fall off? Just curious, cause I might agree depending on what you mean :p
@@sagi3933 Sotsu probably.
@@ErenYeager-no4om alright, I do agree with Sotsu being just... what the frisk
Sorry for long text but its not possible to explain it so easy!😅
If u saw this, plz reply!
One of the rare psychology horror
Other one i know are monster, Paranoia agent
And i don't know if people agree
Re zero too gave off the same vibe

"Get caught in the loop"
I wonder how many other higurashi fans chuckled at this accidental reference you made to this show
Higurashi is one of my favorite visual novel series. It’s also tied to another series called Umineko but that series doesn’t have a good anime so you’ll have to read the visual novel.
this anime teaches me that never takes anything for face values... always question anything and everything...
- Summarised by ChatGPT (spoiler free my opinion)
"Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" is a Japanese visual novel, anime, and manga series that revolves around a group of friends living in a small village in rural Japan, and the mysterious murders and supernatural occurrences that happen in the village during the annual Watanagashi Festival. The story follows the characters as they try to uncover the truth behind the events, which are often shrouded in secrecy and suspicion, and as they struggle to survive the deadly consequences that follow.
Holy shit he did it!!I've never clicked on a video so fast
higurashi is one of the greatest anime one of my top 3
you should react to the endings too they are great.
A scene with nails 💅 that's say it all 😰😱😱😱
Do the Ghost in the shell and Black lagoon OP reactions :). Really enjoying these, keep up the good work!
"Is it over?"
That's the worst/best part: Higurashi is *NEVER OVER!*
The visible confusion at OP 4 was beautiful XD If I remember correctly that was an OVA that was sort of what might have been if * *redacted* * didn't happen. May be wrong.
You should maybe react to all "Shakugan no Shana" Ops and Eds, they're very good songs and it's kinda this style from Higurashi ^^
eiko shimamiya is one of my favorite artists!
i hope you looked into her and also this anime. the openings definitely fit the vibe of each season tbh. amazing psych horror with a dash of supernatural mystery tied in. kira is the HARDEST season to get through :')
okay but talking serious, this story is one of the best animes when we talk about a great script, characters development, it have everything, sometimes it have kind too much gore but it's cause the genre of the story.
Thank you for reacting to this legendary anime op/ed 👍
"Im being so missled here its unbelievable." Most relateable higurashi reaction quote ever said.
yes 100% 18:54 this show and "Another" are the first 2 things that came to mind wayyy back when you said "I like dark shows" or something like that
Ah, finally, a reaction to Higurashi.
He is too much genius 💀
man i love you, it's so rare to see someone reacting to that
Yessss been waiting for a reaction for this! It’s one of my fave anime series!
Keep them dark anime coming! More dark anime you should react to are
Hell girl, shiki, Happy sugar life, paranoia agent
Japan likes symbolism. Flowers are a big indicator for themes. One of the most used flowers for the horror genre is the red spider lillies.
Without spoiling too much, the anime revolves around the extreme paranoia you can often find in secluded and remote villages. The whole mystery unfolds slowly and you will be lost the whole time until it just... clicks at one point and you just look back on it all while screaming "HOW THE HELL DID I MISS THAT!?"
It is a genuinely unsettling anime and I really pray that you one day check it out properly.
Finally! This anime is old but suits you so well. Shiki is another great one for you.
The first two openings can also be listened to in reverse and find a different meaning, this also applies to the images
Luke, can we vote for having this series reaction yet? I really wanted this one LOL
OP 1-3 - original story
OP 4 - comedy side stories
OP 5-6 = newly written story (animated by different studio)
IMO, only the anime covering the original story (Higurashi, Higurashi Kai, and Higurashi Rei) is worth watching.
The second OP is one of my all time favorites.
The lyrics resonates so much with a particular character in the anime.
Oh my boy good ol higurashi! Watch it up to the OVAs the rest is just for the gags, I wish I could watch this again without knowing anything about it.
Some suggestions for obscure animé openings no one is probably going to suggest, but I feel like you've progressed far enough to very much appreciate, so I do recommend them:
_Murder Princess_ - You want a hardcore opening?
Parts 1 and 2 are the best, the craziest dark and the most plot twists.
It's a good horror anime.
wow not to take anything away but your thoughts on tragedy in the past and isolation fits pretty well
In this anime... the mood whiplash is real...
oh my god i've been waiting for this one thank you so much
Just shortly this series is a masterpiece.
The writing of Ryukishi07(author) is very very very complex and goated. Not only this series but his every other series like umineko ,ciconiya and others are same masterpiece.
Been eagerly awaiting this! Reaction long overdue. The endings are just as good!
Higurashi?!?! NO WAY, MY FAVORITE ANIME EVEEEEE AAAAA I’M VERY EXCITED FOR THE REACT
