Shield hero was super popular when season 1 came out. To my knowledge, it was up there with konosuba for best current isekai when it came out. But season 2 rushed stuff and I heard a lot of people found season 2 kind of boring so that's why it became much less popular and why you probably hadn't heard of it before

main reason peopel didnt like season 2 was because they already got back at bitch and naofumi was more powerful so he wasnt get pushed around as much but i heard the story gets alot better later on in the LN
Season 2 strayed way to far from what I thought the show was.
Pretty spot on there, season 2 wasn't terrible per say but the decreased budget, the rush to release as well as them trying to cram the entire turtle spirit and the new world arcs into a half season (13 episodes) just spelled disaster. I prey they learned from their mistakes and will do better moving forward for season 3, but my confidence is somewhat low.
The first opening makes me wanna rewatch the first season again, its perfect

By the way, the reason you kept seeing ending credits during the opening is because a lot of the time the first time they show us the op is at the end of episode 1/the pilot. A lot of anime do it now, as I'm sure you'll notice for yourself. These videos that are uploading the op usually take it from that first episode, for WHATEVER reason.
probably because it was uploaded on the anime release as well, therefore their only source would be the first episode, and they cant be bothered to reupload since its already gathered views and stuff.

@@GOTGames I recommend you to not watch these 60 fps chennels, and instead watch some officially licensed channels. The opening 3 uploaded by the channel "Anicard" just has cut the opening scenes together randomly, mostly played in reverse. All that just to avoid copyright, and thats why i hate these channels. They also ruin the video quality with "60 fps" and "4k" "enhancements", and i dont need to go into detail why these "enhancements" to the video will never be good, (specifically the 60 fps one) there is already like a 20 minute video explaining that.
What I like about Shield Hero is that it tells a unique story that feels very real and maps on to the experience of a lot of young men. At it's core it's an anime about abuse and mental trauma, how that affects someone, what they can become, and how they can change. The main character Naofumi has become a jaded, somewhat shitty person due to the awful circumstances he goes through. Since then, he feels like everyone hates him and nobody is willing to show him any compassion or extend a single olive branch to him and he's been completely fucked over by it and comes to hate other people. Eventually he meets Raphtalia, a woman who shows him compassion, believes in him despite his flaws, supports him, and helps him become better. I see a lot of real, young men become like Naofumi because of the things that have gone through and this anime shows how meaningful and supportive a single kind word and compassionate voice from just one person can do for someone like that.
sometimes one word, good word can change a persons life..and not dunking on men from grade school, telling little boys that they are toxic and evil..
An episode where all this went down made me cry. It felt like, "Finally, someone understands."
It sounds like a very deep and hard hitting anime, but you've all said so much about the first season! Got to check it out 💯
I would add one thing to this description.
Despite how he was treated and despite his cynical and spiteful view of people..... he still treats Raphtalia well from the start. He buys her as a slave, but he feeds her, clothes her, equips her, and trains her. He tries to keep that hard facade that she's just a tool for his goals, but it's clear that it's a fake mask and he offers her compassion from the start.
The first part of the first season is super gratifying to watch and worth reacting to.
I love the way Naofumi's feelings are transcribed in the way he tastes food,. The whole kid's meal scenes and growing up from that food. At the end of episode 4 he can taste food because he opened up to Raphtalia and the world he is living in thanks to her. Great chara development, loved it. When it was meant to be the start it was the only chara development they ever underwent :). I hate the rest of Shield Hero to the bone.
I don't think luke could react to 4 episodes and ever agree to stop after such a high point.

Naofumi doesn't deserve all the shit he's been through. i just want him to settle down with his daughters in some small, quiet town and rest.
Shield Hero should have ended on season 1. I''ve read the LN up to volume 19 and tbh it's really bad. Yusagi (the author) is really just milking the franchise as much as she can.

@@dimabodnaruk35 Honestly, I read the Light Novel has well and it's true that it was all over the place but I think the adaptation in manga / anime has made a decent work to make it enjoyable
Without spoiling it, the anime is a 9/10 and was like contender for anime of the year when it appeared, first season is even better than slime.
The reason you asked why season 2 opening is weird, is because the budget dropped a lot for season 2 and the score dropped to like 6/10 (sketchy animation and they rushed everything).
Also the reason you only now hear about it, is because people voted with season 2 in mind, those who voted, did it for the music and not for the anime itself (So it took a while to win twitch vote).
EDIT: it's an isekai like slime, just more dark, almost zero happy events happen in the show.

I've been on stream with you for months now trying to get Shield Hero put on the vote, I was just lucky enough to get some backing by a few others during that vote. I knew you would absolutely love MadKid it's why I was pushing for it.
You are pretty spot on with your assessment of characters and plot. The big "chicken" are called Filolial they more closely resemble the big riding birds from the Final Fantasy game franchise.
Chiai Fujikawa is really good. Her first 2 ending songs made me look her up and listen to all her songs.
I legit shed tears in the 15th episode, so get ready to feel some emotions in this show if you watch it
This anime is just as epic as the songs are, ep 1 is kinda heavy but after that it's just an amazing show. A lot of people didn't like season 2 (I thought it was fine) so maybe thats why it took a while for people to recommend, but it's so worth a watch.
The second season was truly trash compared to the first one and the manga dude, they changed everything in a really bad way, they made us wait almost 3 years for that disgrace. And for the look of the 3rd season poster looks like they're gonna rush alot of things and it's gonna keep going down.

i think i would have love S2 if i whould not seen S1 because i dont think it was bad but it was rushed. I was relly hyped about "boss battle" but it was done kinda way to easy (just to clarify i did liked it. i just didnt love it as i would normally do)
Yeah, no. Season 2 was indeed trash. They made us wait so long after announcing 2 more seasons right after season 1 ended and the quality is somehow worse. They cut a lot of stuff out so the story felt odd, the animation got worse even though they should've had a bigger budget than the first season due to its success. I didn't like that so many people came out of the woodwork saying it was always bad though, just because of season 2
I felt it more because how they changed everything on the story, i mean i kinda don't care too much about the animation if they have done a good job keeping the story, just look at arifureta dude, they do rush things but the story keep it interesting and good.
I'm really sorry for Aneko Yusagi, they ruin his story.
The main reason why I love anime, that studios can make any action/fantastic/fantasy/sci-fi anime without big budgets compared to hollywood movies. You just need interesting manga, some good artists, professional voice actors and talanted director to show people anything you can possibly imagine. That's why there are such a variety of great anime.

Once you have watched the show, turn on subtitles for the first ending and it will hit you like a truck. It is literally a poem of a character's feeling in this show (i won't spoil who towards who but it is very clear to those who have watched the show), such a beautifully composed song.
The songs are top of the top level, MADKID is awesome, but let me also say that this is a big contender for a reaction series for the future.
Shield Hero season 1 especially, was HUGE! I can't say much about it without spoiling stuff I shouldn't. This is a series you gotta go in full blind for the best experience. All I can say is I used to read the manga (though the original work is a book) and I was ecstatic when they announced the anime! And season 1 was an even more epic experience than reading the manga even though I already knew what was gonna happen, which is rare for me! That's how good the anime was. I cannot praise it enough.
I completely agree, Shield Hero season 1 has gotta be the only anime season I can say has made the story and combats even better than the manga

R.O.T.S.H is an emotional roller coaster. You know how things start off good then go bad. This started off emotionally like a long walk off a short pier. Your emotions are going to be TESTED. And you'll be slowly surfacing. REALLY slowly.
I have loved this anime so much for a while now lmao
This is one of my very top favorite anime ever and I 100000% recommend it. It IS emotionally heavy and well wrtten. Personally, I had a few characters that made me want to punch them in the face despite not being official villains. But it also has a lot of heartwarming sweet moments and i grew so attached to the characters, it makes you wish you could be there with them and stand up for/protect the main characters. (and there's obviously action stuff too)

Whenever you watch an opening and it has credits rolling, its because your watching the version from the first episode which usually isn't shown until the end of the episode.
12:13 The credits are like that because some shows play the op at the end of the first episode when there’s a new season. The text their showing over the op is what would normally be the Ed credits. It has normal credits for every other episode.

god I love this animé. it really does a great job with making you connect and sympathize with the protagonist.
Opening 2 last few seconds pretty much tells the whole story accumulating in a few seconds. The part where the three women are helping him. Is so touching cause all the crap he goes through gets uplifted. Is a metaphor.
having watched Rising of the Shield Hero, I will say, it's a pretty good casual watch, but some of the details start to fall apart under scrutiny... I had fun with it, but if I had a mind to, I could probably pick at it until it sounds like I hated it. there's just some really messy character work in this anime, which is fine if you don't mind that sort of thing too much. I do love the OPs and EDs though!
this does have me kind of thinking about Golden Kamuy once again, because like... that show is so goofy... unbelievable amounts of jackass shit happen in that show. and yet, the main storyline has so many dramatic plot elements that work so incredibly well... I think it's literally because of the goofy stuff. like, a LOT of the cast is former soldiers, and during the war, their personalities were set aside and neglected in favor of somber stoicism... they could die at any time, so there was no point in being a unique person or getting to know anyone. but post war... they can be people again. and you see so many strange, silly, awkward, unique parts of them start to come to the surface. and it makes you more and more aware that this is what could've been lost if they'd ended up as canon fodder. it's such a strange mixture of laugh-out-loud hilarious, and completely heart wrenching at times.
This is exactly how I feel as well. I had fun with the first season, but I definitely have some issues the show.

mostly I had trouble with the lack of characterization for the other heroes besides Naofumi... or rather, when they got characterization, they were just buffoons? like, they never got smarter, or learned anything, and it bugged me.
it also bugged me that Raphtalia only ever seems bothered by slavery when it's convenient. like, when the plot wants to have a "Raphtalia is against slavery" moment, it gets it, but when Naofumi goes back to the same slave trader where Raphtalia would've probably died if Naofumi hadn't acquired her, in order to obtain Filo... she doesn't even act traumatized?
like, idk, I'm not against controversial shit in my media... my favorite anime is Golden Kamuy, and that has a guy who makes clothes out of corpse skins as a hobby. I really can't judge. but at the same time, I'd like the piece of media I'm consuming to at least treat the characters with internal consistency. when it doesn't, that's when I start asking myself why the writer even wanted this detail in their story in the first place. like... they're not even _doing_ anything with it!

When credits "roll" in an OP, it's because it was used as an ED the first time it was aired, usually for the season premiere.

12:18 it was shown in the end of the episode 1 for the first time, so it has credits during it. Same with op 3, it was shown in the end of episode 1 of season 2. Also, they go upwords because you watched edited version, they swaped scenes and did some of them in the opposite order to avoid copyright.
I havent seen this show yet, but the composer of the series' music is Kevin Penkin who created some absolute masterpieces in Made in Abyss and Tower of God so i expect it to be so emotional!!
The Rising of the Shield Hero is one of the best Isekai (Japanese fantasy where the protagonist finds himself in another world). It is one of the few anime where the first episode leaves viewers speechless. Like attack on titan, goblin slayer, Re:Zero or The Promised Neverland. TH-cam video (Highest Rated First Anime Episode) to realize how much the first episode marked people.
I loved Season 1 of this anime so much. One of the few Isekai anime to really get me to give more Isekai series a chance instead of declaring most a waste of time.
Just sad they didn’t handle season 2 well. I hate when series do that 😩
beside the production..the material for season 2 was hard to adapt..but they couldnt drop it..lore wise it was important..this is the problem with novel adaptation..a novel can take 100 pages to draw something out but an anime cant take 3 eps to give us back lore...i tend to see a lot of people be influenced by hollywood action movies..people want fast action paced shows..
These openings aren't really my taste usually but the more i hear them the more i like them, especially the first 2. But the endings... my gosh, so emotionally strong, again especially the first 2. Easily two of the best of all time.

The rising of shield hero is a dark hearted and a mix of light hearted it is about a guy name naofumi who been Summon to another world as the shield hero to stop monster apocalypse that is call wave in this world there are 4 hero a shield spear sword and bow this I recommend you watching this anime
when the credits go as if it was an ending, it's because it WAS as an ending, it happens a lot of time at the begin of a season.
it sure is a good anime (at least the first season, i didn't watch all the second season) i recommend you to watch at least season one without knowing anything. a lot of anime that are recommended to you are the anime of this season, the ones that are hyped because that are being aired or because they are news recently, or anime that are just too known by anyone for you to not know them, that's why you didn't get any info about it before, this and the fact that this is an isekai like 80% of what is done in anime for the last 10 years...
You must start watching this anime! It does have some emotional moments, but they are a huge part of what makes Rising Of The Shield Hero so amazing in both the story and character designs.

The first Openings are often showed as the first Ending in the first Episode. In the 2nd Episode it's the Opening after all and the ending is revealed then.
The reason those openings showed scrolling credits like an ending is because the versions in the videos you are using are from the first episodes of their season where’d they showed the opening at the ending of the first episode.
Please react to "Utawarerumono" openings and endings! It's a fantasy series with eastern and in particular Japanese aesthetic, in opposite of how many fantasy series have Medieval Europe-like settings. And, of course, it has really, really good music in it.

An old school throw back I like is the opening from Record of Lodoss War: Chronicle of the Heroic Knight.
Shield Hero's first season opening feels like Naofumi's song (he's basically just angry for a lot of it, for extremely good reason) while the closing is the girl - Raphtalia's - song as all she wants is to stay with him and protect him (ironically as she's the offensive and he's the defensive class). Raphtalia starts as a child, but becomes an adult in the first season. Essentially she ages in alignment with her class level rather than time. ;)
Shield Hero isn't a really hard emotional anime, but it came out at the right time for a lot of people and it's got enough character emotion to offer depth while still being just a blast. It's one I wish stayed higher on the popularity radar to get the full light novel run a high quality anima series. And I desperately wish there was a video game that had similar vibes to the story. Think "Heroes wrongfully accused and on the run while still trying to do good" though they eventually establish their own base of operations (which would be cool town building element in a game).
Season 1 of Shield Hero was next level it was all the hype when it was airing! And one of the only anime ever to get confirmed for season 2 and 3 at the same time!

🤩 One of my favourites, I really liked the first and second seasons.
Although for some the second season was not good, it is because they compare totally different arcs, the first was more focused on the tension between characters, while the other fought for a common goal.
Quick Synopsis: 4 people are summoned from their world to be heroes of this world. Each person represents a weapon and they are unable to use any other weapon besides what they represent. They get a game like HUD they upgrade. Its a good one.
this anime is one of my favourites, the first season is honestly amazing, the first episode is probably my favourite first episode for an anime ever, its done really really well. watch it i beg, you won't regret it
Just so that it is not forgotten. The opening and ending of Tasogare Otome X Amnesia and the ost Requiem. The opening and endings from Gosick and Kore wa Zombie desu ka are amazing as well

7:12 oh yes. this anime is going to HURT you. it's going to beat you down. it's going to pulverize your emotions to dust and hold your eyelids open to make sure you watch. "the highest highs and lowest lows..." is a great way to describe it

this anime is definitely dark yet light hearted and very emotional, every time i rewatch it, i cry
heads up: this anime will put you front row on an emotional rollercoaster. btw i recommended this way back in the beginning of your anime journey.... this would be a great one to watch live
The first 4 episodes are definitely master class, I was very happy and along for the ride for the full season 1. Haven't watched season 2 yet though, people say it's bad but I don't beleive them.
My fave is the first ending, especially the name screaming version, you could feel the emotion deeply
4:22 this is why you shouldn't skip the anime openings. they set you up for the episode and also end it perfectly. I understand why on twitch you skip the opening but i'm sure there's solutions so you don't have to skip it... like muting the opening for the stream.
Setting the mood is very important, after all.

I didn't know too much about Anime other than the popular ones (sailor moon, Pokemon, dragon ball). During covid lock downs this was the 1st one I binged, the SAO dude I'm hooked.
Rise of The Shield Hero also one of my favorite anime, easy recommandation 😁

The Rising of the Shield Hero was so much better of a show than I thought it'd be when it came out. Definitely worth a watch imo
And I liked season 2.i think people really over hate it.
Some anime's first episode have their openings on the end, that's why it has the credits and not the usual stuff
Shield Hero is an emotional roller coaster at times, yes.
There are a lot, I mean a lot dark, happy, comedy, epic and fun shows, with amazing or old school animation or OST or music... finding gems within the anime history is tiring, cuz there is a lot, I was bullied into watching anime, but now I'm losing sleep, there is more than 100 anime I want to watch, I watch 30 anime, seasonal and finished alike. and I finished more than 100, and I can't keep up with the seasonal anime... Believe me, the openings you watch 'til now, every anime that those openings belong to, are very much liked by the whole community, you still far from the end, you gotta react to much more...
the anime openings of "Drifters" and "Inuyashiki" are also very good
Firstly, the Opening of the second season has 2 versions, one for the anime (engl. lyrics) and the japanese version which i like a more than the anime version.
I completely agree, Rising of the Shield Hero is a really great Anime and definitely recommend watching both Season 1 and 2.

The ED singer Chiai Fujikawa (藤川千愛) has very good voice, I known her several years ago. The song I first heart from her is a cover song '幸せ'.
The shield hero is a generally dark series that is somewhat subversive of the isekai trope (at least at the time). It tends to play human vices more realistically and shows the real potential of how badly that could affect others in a world of magic.
And while it'd be enjoyable to read, the anime cut out and watered down SO many things that it actually started to play out like a generic isekai. There was a plot point I waited for so long to get and soldiered through the other changes, only for them to completely ruin that too. I was furious.
I didn't even bother to watch season 2 but I saw people talking about the animation taking a massive hit. Honestly this is something I'd recommend to read and not watch.
Rewatching these since season three just started. The new OP is still epic.
