67 here. Whoya ! Witnessed CREAM on their Goodbye Tour at the then "Fabolous Forum" in Los Angeles. 1st concert AT $6.50. Followed this man from the Bluesbreakers on but no matter who he has played with you always....know its him. Articulate, clean, fast, gracious on stage and soooo soulful. Thank you indeed Eric Clapton ! We on the senior tour were so lucky to actually see live, EC and the other amazing axmen mentioned below in our life time. Gonna be a good while before such collective musicianship comes this way again. What a ride !!!
Cream live at the LA Forum is a classic recording, maybe their last show (or one up in San Francisco after that). The Ginger Baker drum solo at that concert, in "Toad", is unsurpassed in rock, with amazing polyrhythms, creativity and drive. I luckily saw EC twice, in '74 in SF, and about '85 in Sacramento with Ry Cooder opening (they didn't play together, unfortunately). Derek and the Dominoes with Duane Allman may be his best album.
This is probably one of THE BEST examples you will ever find to illustrate the importance and the affect of playing the pocket. Right after a few bars, you can see the keyboard player is bopping, Willie is bopping and then the song just explodes. Steve Jordan's performance on this song, in my opinion, puts this live version on my MUST HAVE and MUST HEAR Steve Jordan list.

was in the audience and this totally blew the roof off. A good portion of the acts before Eric were playing slower or acoustic songs. Eric came on stage about 4 hours in and his energy and vocals were 110%. Love the interplay between Doyle and Steve Jordan at the end on the triplets
Steve Jordan: Using the simplest of sets, no fancy effects, minimum micing, doesn't even look like they have in-ear monitors,,,nevertheless he's spot on throughout the entire 8 1/2 minute groove! His left foot never stops...the hi-hat slapping all the time. Totally precise and restrained with class. Man is he good! BTW, Charlie Watts' personal pick as his replacement for the current Stones tour.
Amazing I commented on Max’s reply also He brings the Pocket in & out so smoothly It’s unbelievable. On a simple set.I don’t see no ear monitor or anything.Total concentration.😎
Nobody does it like Clapton! I'm almost 68 and dam, he's still out there stylin'. Gets me and my walker out there on the dance floor! Don't retire until you put out another CD, Eric!!
I saw an interview of EC a few years back. He was asked, "what was your first addiction?". His answer was not what I expected. He said "sugar". As a kid, he liked the rush he got from sugar.
The Beatles' song, "Savoy Truffle" is Harrison poking fun at Clapton for his teeth problems from his love of chocolate. I should 've been paying attention because I love chocolate too much myself.
Life got you down? Just sit back and listen to musical perfection. Awesome how each member of the band work together to create a magical experience. All I can say is WOW!!
I love this performance. I remember seeing Doyle near 6th street playing some tiny place. These dudes are special to us that have "lived the life" and recovered. God bless anyone who reads this who is suffering with addiction. Remember.. God don't make junk.
23yrs sober, one day at a time. I use the same statement at the end of all my shares, "keep coming back it works if you work it, God doesn't make junk." 😘
Not to mention Doyle plays his guitar upside down, right-handed guitar played left-handed like Hendrix. Didn't notice when I saw him with Clapton in Charlotte in '01.
You couldn't ask for a better performance from Eric, he definitely had it going on. The mid-song guitar break...it was like the guitar was speaking to us.
Used to catch him every time he was in Seattle, (I live in Montana)...I'm about to be 66 and have been listening to him since I was 12...I play guitar and his albums, tapes and CD's were my teachers. Miss him touring within my reach! Thank EC for a lifetime of pure enjoyment
He has always been the perfect example of "less is more" and this band proves it. The drum kit looks like a mini kit - but sounds like a full kit. Clapton has a single Volume/wah pedal (all I ever used on stage), and - I don't know about now, but I saw him a few years ago in a gig with Santana (whose F/X pedal is a pyramid of f/x (kidding, but he uses a LOT of effects - and uses them well - and his band is enormous. Clapton was introduced, and walked out with and old, tiny-looking Fender Twin Reverb, plugged it into the P.A, (no pedal) and jammed the Hell out of Santana's song. Just pure, raw talent, and so much knowledge of tone and how to manipulate a great little amp combo and his guitar. Looks like he has 'upgraded' to a pedal and a little bigger amp, but less can STILL be more. This is proof. Superb.
Then u must not know about his Daddy. And all the bands WITH SRV ..AND 4-5 BIG SONGS HE WROTE FOR SRV when they were HOT (+never cooled down) .. HE PLAYED DRUMS. Did his own thing too..WAS IN CHGO on tour WITH Charlie Musselwhite no less.the whole band cooked. The place was on fire. The whole band was possessed. Insane guitar. We lost him about 9 years ago..at 61 P.S. thats "Doyle Bramhall 1"
A blogger hit the center of the bullseye with, "Steve Winwood doesn't get much credit for his guitar chops, because he does so much else so well. But the man can hang with anybody." Splendidly put, I offer that in this priceless song, SW's chop is the one I like best - he recaptures the flat, tinny sound EC made his own for decades." One of my anthems for sure, we love you Robert Johnson!
I was about 14 rows from him the other day and he's still killing it! He tore this song UP at that show too. I'd say this was maybe my favorite song of the night if I had to pick. The ONNNNLY thing I wished he would've done differently at that show was to play at least one Cream song but that's just a selfish request on my part. He's still an all time living legend. No doubt.
@@SimpleManGuitars1973 I saw that same tour 9/21/21 in Nashville TN. It was GREAT!!! I do wish they would have done the electric version of Layla after they played High Time We Went for the oncore. Even though we did get the acoustic version it would have been awesome to get the electric version.
@@markhaus2830 I also wanted an electric Layla and honestly thought he might do both because he has before. The acoustic one was great too. The acoustic song I really was hoping for was Change The World. I was at the Nashville show too btw! Marcus King rocked it and so did Jimmy Vaughan.
Clapton IS God! This has always been one of my favorites but it's more relevant today than when he did it years ago. I'm just glad he's still alive! It's going to be a very sad day when Eric, and Bob Dylan, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and the Rolling Stones are no longer with us. Losing Tom Petty, George Harrison, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and SRV all way too early was bad enough.
In the space time continuom of things the chances of hm being heard in some-other space and in some-other time will not be by chance but because E.C. has payed his dues time and again he"s not only earned his place in this world he"s earned his place in the universe and I believe that not only GOD would agree and his son but the E.T."s would to.
"There's still one thing that you can do, get down on your knees and pray, you know the Lord will answer you, do it today, do it tonight"... Eric Clapton. The finest to ever pick up an electric guitar, by the Hand of The Almighty...
First saw him when I was 19...almost fell out of the first row balcony trying to get a better look. Loved him then, love him now and I am 70, he is the best guitarist I have ever seen and I've seen them all.
Same here, been listening to Eric for 50 years unfortunately like many great musicians from my time are in their 70s. Not much time left for these great musicians unfortunately.
I’m 17 and about to graduate from high school in June. Thank you Eric for your beautiful music that helped me through the stressful time in the college application season.
And he'll always be there for ya. Need to get jacked for a workout or a night on the town? E.C. gotcha. Need to hear someone who is relating to your heartbreak or hear someone tell you their story which is a million times worse, thus, making you feel better about your situation? Slowhand gonna smoothly guide you home. Need to rock out so you can stay awake for that long drive? God will keep your eyelids from getting heavy. Wanna know about some of the greatest American and English music history? Professor Eric will make easy to grasp. Need to learn about women? Eric Clapton can teach you what to do and what not to do. But if you are back at your crib with a lady-friend and y'all are getting romantic? Slowhand gonna greatly increase your chances with her unless You somehow manage to screw it up? Then, Mr. "Clappin" gonna sing and pick you a Blues song that will soothe your loss.
Great to see Eric give it his all, which he always does at these Crossroads Festivals. On many tour stops I feel Eric coasts a little, but never at the Crossroads Festivals.
Great call! Totally agree! He’s a magician on the thing! “Go Back Home” on his first album, and “The Love Gangster” on his Manassas album are just two examples.
"Tales of Brave Ulysses" oh man what great use of a wah pedal - also the very beginning of his solo with it on "Presence of the Lord" - man, just fantastic.
Don't you know what's wrong with me? I'm seeing things I don't want to see. Sniffing things that ain't no good for me. I'm going down fast, won't you say a prayer for me? It's got to get better in a little while. The sun's got to shine on my guitar someday. Revolution all across the land. Just like Sly, you got to take a stand. Please don't hurt nobody, don't knock them down; Give them a helping hand to get off the ground. Still one thing that you can do; Fall down on your knees and pray. I know the Lord's gonna answer you. Don't do it tomorrow, do it today.
Top of their game , Clapton is a legend , his entire band are amazingly talented people , Paul Carrack etc Doyle Bramhall II solo at the end is also top notch , reminiscent of Claptons original 70s live solos plus a lot more. One of the best live songs ever done.
Honed my skills as a Bass player listening to Clapton, never gets old , almost got to see him in Frankfort in 70 or 71 but it didn't happen, came back home and put him on the turntable,ha ha .

Steve Jordan is a beast.
Those ladies on backup vocals are fantastic!
was in the audience and this totally blew the roof off. A good portion of the acts before Eric were playing slower or acoustic songs. Eric came on stage about 4 hours in and his energy and vocals were 110%. Love the interplay between Doyle and Steve Jordan at the end on the triplets
Wow. I was also there. My
Seats were “on the moon”
But me
And my
Brother snuck down to get a better feel. It was absolutely amazing .
BTW, Charlie Watts' personal pick as his replacement for the current Stones tour.
oOoO good one
Dude's a human metronome for sure.
I first became exposed to Steve on John Mayer's "TRY" CD. Instant fan.
Yes, and I saw Jordan with the Stones. He did a great job!
Amazing I commented on Max’s reply also
He brings the Pocket in & out so smoothly
It’s unbelievable.On a simple set.I don’t see no ear monitor or anything.Total concentration.😎
THE DRUMMER AND THE BASS PLAYER ARE BOTH AWESOME
+Roger Lee Meyzindi The drummer is now playing with the John Mayer Trio
Willie Weeks and Steve Jordan!
+Mario Fletcher Thanks for the info Mario
+Suzy Thompson now ? Steve Jordan has been John Mayer's drummer since forever. He produced almost all his albums.
Mayerforever
Steve Jordan used to be in Paul Shaffer's band on the Letterman show.
Steve Jordan lays down such a solid groove here...it just adds volumes to Eric and his playing of this song...
It sure does, a solid beat. Brilliant Steve.
I believe it is Sonny Emory with Steve Gadd.

It’s funny he doesn’t find himself a good vocalist

Eric Clapton 1.23M
Clapton and Crew taking us to Church. Outstanding.

Eric's music is my drug of choice.
The master at the top of his game. Transcendent.
Still #1 utube music video!!!!
Thanks for the love & support ❤
Life got you down? Just sit back and listen to musical perfection. Awesome how each member of the band work together to create a magical experience.
All I can say is WOW!!
And also : " Thanks God !!!!! )
Totally agree. I love this song and love to play along on my guitar.
if we listen we get better in a little while !!! ciao

Didn't notice when I saw him with Clapton in Charlotte in '01.
i just turned 65 and i realize that i'm listening to Eric for more than 50 years now ('though at the times i was more into Jimi ;-) ) - GREAT PIECE!
One of the most killer rhythm sections ever.
Superb.
As a drummer and Clapton freak, these two go together like a grilled cheese sandwich.
Super underrated groove. Clapton, per usual kills it here. Also Steve Jordan on drums never hurts....
Steve Jordan pushes the rhythm like no-one since Buddy Miles.
Dont forget Doyle !!
I love how Eric music sounds and you can here his inspiration s in it ❤🎉😊
Tough as nails. That distinct EC tone gets you every time. So glad he's still here and playing!
There's not a guitarist on planet earth that's not humbled by his presence......
My brother is also excellent. I'm lucky
Drugi gitarist je ljevak, jebote, ima naopako žice, ko da je učio u špiglu svirat. Strašno !! A tek dramer, kakav majstor !!!!

Then u must not know about his Daddy.
And all the bands WITH SRV ..AND 4-5 BIG SONGS HE WROTE FOR SRV when they were HOT (+never cooled down) .. HE PLAYED DRUMS. Did his own thing too..WAS IN CHGO on tour
WITH Charlie Musselwhite no less.the whole band cooked. The place was on fire. The whole band was possessed. Insane guitar.
We lost him about 9 years ago..at 61
P.S. thats
"Doyle Bramhall 1"
A blogger hit the center of the bullseye with, "Steve Winwood doesn't get much credit for his guitar chops, because he does so much else so well. But the man can hang with anybody." Splendidly put, I offer that in this priceless song, SW's chop is the one I like best - he recaptures the flat, tinny sound EC made his own for decades." One of my anthems for sure, we love you Robert Johnson!
Eric has been a treasure for about 50 years; we’re very fortunate to have his talent and hopefully for a long to come
I was about 14 rows from him the other day and he's still killing it!
British treasure, lol.
Well said…. Clapton is God and he is indelibly etched into the soul of rock and roll forever

"There's still one thing that you can do, get down on your knees and pray, you know the Lord will answer you, do it today, do it tonight"... Eric Clapton. The finest to ever pick up an electric guitar, by the Hand of The Almighty...

I never get tired of watching and listening to Eric Clapton play guitar.
I am too! 👏👏👏 🎸🎸🎸
Same here, been listening to Eric for 50 years unfortunately like many great musicians from my time are in their 70s. Not much time left for these great musicians unfortunately.
Mee too, it is so simple: he is the best of all time, forever and ever.
..wow! Clapton, JJ Cale, Derek Trucks & Doyle Bramhall II together, they rocks the block...
I’m 17 and about to graduate from high school in June. Thank you Eric for your beautiful music that helped me through the stressful time in the college application season.

Mr. Clapton is so fun to watch when he gets in the zone. I got my first electric guitar at 13 and Mr. Clapton was my teacher. What a great song!
wow ur really lucky to have him be your teacher
The thing I admire the most about Clapton besides his great guitar work is how he's so focused all the time.

Clapton's use of the wah, particularly during his live playing, is at once tasteful, erotic, controlled, and explosive. So damn good!!
Not a competition, but love how Stephen Stills handles the wah as well.
Great call! Totally agree! He’s a magician on the thing! “Go Back Home” on his first album, and “The Love Gangster” on his Manassas album are just two examples.
Hear him on White Room with Cream. He picks the splinter out of it.

Wow! Saw him in 68 with Cream, 69 with blind Faith, and here he is thrilling me with a 2013 knockout performance. So glad he survived drugs and found happiness with a great family,.
