Lyrics:
Sailing down behind the sun
Waiting for my prince to come
Praying for the healing rain
To restore my soul again
Just a toerag on the run
How did I get here?
What have I done?
When will all my hopes arise?
How will I know him?
When I look in my father's eyes
(Look into my father's eyes)
My father's eyes
When I look in my father's eyes
(Look into my father's eyes)
My father's eyes
Then the light begins to shine
And I hear those ancient lullabies
And as I watch this seedling grow
Feel my heart start to overflow
Where do I find the words to say?
How do I teach him?
What do we play?
Bit by bit, I've realized
That's when I need them
That's when I need my father's eyes
Then the jagged edge appears
Through the distant clouds of tears
I'm like a bridge that was washed away
My foundations were made of clay
As my soul slides down to die
How could I lose him?
What did I try?
Bit by bit, I've realized
That he was here with me
I look into my father's eyes

I have to look my son's eyes to see my father's eyes. Miss u dad ❤
My biological father died a year and a half ago. My parents split when I was five I didn't see him again until I was 18. But we still got to make memories as adults. My dad was a good man my step dad too. He's Still alive so at least I have one out of two dads left.
Eric Clapton ist ein Segen für die Welt der Musik. Ein Segen für sein Publikum. Ich durfte ihn bei seinem letzten Deutschland Konzert in Mannheim Deutschland 🇩🇪 erleben. Vielen Dank
It is 2024 and I am still watching this. So many concerts, so many GREAT memories.
I am 102 years old and have been a Clapton fan since the beginning.
God bless you for making it to 102. Im half your age 51.
If I make it to 102, it may very well be because of Eric Clapton....
Of course „straightmanforever69“ TROLL 😂
We don't know you but we love you and wish you more health to enjoy more of such masterpiece. When someone of you age loves such a song it means the rest of us are not wrong.
Im 104
My father passed from Covid complications 6 months ago - still miss him everyday. Music keeps me sane and learning about faith in God after 64 years. Life is a journey in progress. Thanks for making that journey more pleasant, Eric Clapton!
xo
My condolences, dear. May your dad RIP. I'd like to share your sadness. 😢
thank you!!have you ever had an opportunity to attend any of my concerts so far? Thank you for your likes and comments as well and I really appreciate your love and support over me as well
My sincere condolences !! I can't agree more with your comment !!!

Clapton is timeless. What an incredible song lyrically and musically.
He is timeles, he is genieus, love him
Thé "guy" IS awesome!!! Love u Eric!!!😊
I’m 76 and love this man’s music
Yo soy más joven q tú pero para esta música no hay edad
Good music never age's only we do.
I'm 23 and I love his music too. I'm going to watch him for the first time here in Argentina, as my dad make me listen his music when I was just a child. I'm so exited!
@@federicoschembri4284. You will never forget especially because you will associate Eric’s music with your dad. Lifetime memory, enjoy your concert
Great must doesn't age. People are still listening to music from the 16th century.
“He’s always with me.” - that’s what everyone who has lost a loved on needs to remember. They are ALWAYS with us. God blesses the broken hearted, for he surrounds them.
This song is so brilliantly written he's singing to the Lord our father God.

My Father died and this was his Song… where ever you are enjoy. Love you
I'm listening to this with tears streaming down my face . As my dad passed away this morning. He was a huge fan of Eric Clapton, as I am to. He was 66 years old and I will miss him forever.
My father passed in 2012 and I think of him every day. It will get better but he will always be by your side.
Gazeral Gaming I understand your pain, my Dad went to Heaven a year ago ❤️
man, thats rough... sorry to hear.
you WILL feel better sooner then later. trust me, i know..
hang in there!
We hear you my friend. This song meant SO much to me and I lost a lot of tears when my dad passed. We're all reaching out to you and we share your pain. Hang in there -- you know your dad would be proud of the love you feel for him. Love is forever.
So sorry for loss, I pray for healing and strength. You are not alone.
One of the best guitarists AND vocalists ever. This song is amazing
2024 Legend for Sure 66 and totally Happy!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My all-time favorite always
Clapton is untouchable, the real guitar god !!!
Nobody else on this planet is able to play this delicate introduction. Eric is really inspired during the whole song, he masters every second of it with genius.
This is not a song; it is a prayer 🙏 ❤️🩹🪶
Just 🙏😘
It isn't. It's specifically about his actual Father who he never knew, and the perspective of his Son who died in a tragic accident.
😢
Bro that’s what OP meant by saying it was like a prayer. To God. About connects death
Well said. Very
When I was a kid my dad would play Eric's lives on tv and record it...we would run everytime knowing it was going to be playing all day! Tomorrow will be my Daddy's first birthday in heaven and here I am listening to him just to feel those day's again!!😭😭😭😭
Gracias al que publico esta bella canción. Por favor si alguien pudiera colocarle los subtítulos en español, les quedaría agradecido. Gracias.
Eric Clapton, is the number one.
Lost my father just few years ago.
His blue eyes smiled.
"Be a good man" they said
So I am
My Father and I were very close, then in my early twenties we had a bad agreement over a foolish decision I made and he was forced to make a tough decision to put me in jail. Am older now, we made amends, but I still feel poorly for putting my Father through that terrible ordeal. Then I think of Mr. Clapton and the problems he had with his family of origin. Makes my story look like a fairytale. God Bless you Mr. Clapton, thank you for your strength and healing.
My father passed when I was 10. This song means a lot to me.
So sorry that’s so young 😢
My mother didn't physically die, but something in her died when I was ten years old, and I had to grow up and become an adult. So, in a way, I understand your pain.
Dedicate this song to my daughter TORI Washburn , no matter what happens in life your dad will always be there for you. Love you kid.
There are no words for the Brilliance of this artist. It means so much to me and so many different ways with recovery for the last 30 years
No guitarist has the same arithmetic timing, geometrical progression and ring range Simply an Alien
Eric Clapton never really knew his father ... which makes this song so much more meaningful .. especially when he sings "thats when I need them; that's when I need my fathers eyes"
it was soon after his son passed as well if im correct. breaks ur heart

Thank you Mr. Clapton for this Song!!! I miss my father's eyes a lot😢
Sometimes i suffer and had a qustion how to do right with my children!!❤
He is a complete guitarist and good singer as well I have following Clapton 30 years and I am still enjoying his music I am 72 years old
We will remember our fathers eyes. And our Mom's as well. Wish I could see those eyes again. Maybe later.
There will never be a guitarist like slow hand Eric Clapton. He is as smooth as it gets!
My Dad the only one that accept me the way I am. Miss you, your son.
I lost my Dad today. He was 65. My heart is shattered. I don’t know how I will get through this pain. I am here because He loved Eric Clapton. ❤️

Still watching in 2024. I'll bawl in tears if my future child will discover this song and sing it to me.
I play guitar and my dad is very excited to hear me play his songs. I play on the same guitar he played when he was 16. Today he is 41

Can't help but reflect on my late father listening to this. I have children of my own now and the feeling of staring into their eyes is something I wish I could freeze and keep with me forever.

*If you're still watching this in 2022 you're such a legend*
👊🏽
Sure I do.
Here I am
From Seoul.Korea
I’m here but I’m no legend, only a legacy to the ones I helped create. To be a father is the greatest gift ever bestowed upon me.
He never met his Father....Eric was the illegitimate son of a Canadian flyer who was in GB during the War...knocked-up his Mom, then returned to Canada. His young Mom then lived with her Mother and gave birth to Eric. As a cover story, Eric was raised to believe his Mom was his SISTER and that his Grandmother was his Mother !! So I believe his search for his Father will never be over...perhaps he wrote this song to "air" his pain relating to this life issue just as his "Tears in Heaven" was written to help him deal with the loss of his child Connor who died tragically. Our love of his great music is rooted in his life tragedies without which they would never have been written. He always has been a "Blues-Rocker" and a great song writer who has had MULTIPLE successful careers spanning literally more than 1/2 Century. Thanks man....you have made your mark with millions of loyal fans and WILL do it again with generations yet unborn.
Beautifully written and thank you so much for sharing your heartwarming story... My father was an alcoholic and abused my mother and us 4 kids... I have been using my music therapy group on my msgr now and with that said I've been listening to rock and roll since I was 13yrs old it's my 1st love as is This Man...
Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful thoughts on Eric he is a great gift from Our Father God I was abused by my alcoholic father until I was 13yrs old and never wanted to look into his eyes... Music is my therapy and rock is my heart 1st.
I too have loved this man's musical talent.
Have been listening to him since I was 13yrs old and never heard this song before and I was doing a top 5 guitarist on my music therapy group through msgr and of course Eric was there and I searched for the song choice I wanted to use and I don't believe in accidents or coincidence's...
I believe God led me straight to this song and at first the title of course wasn't right but I listened to the lyrics and knew God and Eric who wrote the song flipped the script and I cried with love and joy with the most precious words of understanding exactly what they meant... I had already forgiven my father a long time ago and God has blessed me with 4 son's and plus 1 1/2 brother I helped raise and they are grown now ... My oldest is 43yrs and Christopher is in the Ellis Unit serving a long sentence for drugs that I know he would otherwise be dead... My heart is broken but I'm so grateful for his life and God's mercy on him... He has a son who just graduated and we have not seen since he was a child..
Through the music and prayer warriors for our children all around the world I dedicated this song to them and played through out the day I tell you that again that prayers work by 9pm that night my grandson on msgr contacted me... I was overwhelmed with joy and love to hear from him and asking about his father, my son...
I thank you Mr. Eric Clapton for your music that touches us in our hearts!!! We are all blessed by it through you and I say thank you for all you give of yourself with the precious talent through Our Father God in Jesus Christ name Amen... I apologize for the long reply as I have never done this before... I really enjoyed reading your words of his lifetime and would like to know more and read his autobiography too... Can you tell me the title please...

Heartfelt and beautiful. It will be 10 years in August since I lost my father. I think of him every day. I am the man I am today because of him.
Lost my father today he was 93. It would take too long to tell you about him. He was steady as the rain, dependable. He had kind brown eyes but that wasn't his most obvious characteristic. I felt like I was closer to my Mom but my fathers eye's were always there. Not judging or panicking, rarely crying. They gave me strength.
I lost my Dad this February. He was 92. I thought because of the age it would help with his passing... No. How much wisdom our Dad's have given us? Let us pass this on to future generations the best we can! Loving thoughts Your way 🙏
