Eric Clapton, one of the world’s pre-eminent blues/rock guitarists, once again summoned an all-star team of six-string heroes for his fifth Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2019. Held at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, the two-day concert event raised funds for the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, the chemical dependency treatment and education facility that Clapton founded in 1998.

Lyrics:
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy
All around in my home town
They're trying to track me down
They say they want to bring me in guilty
For the killing of a deputy
For the life of a deputy
But I say
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
Sheriff John Brown always hated me
For what I don't know
Every time that I plant a seed
He said, "Kill it before it grows"
He said, "Kill it before it grows"
I say
I shot the sheriff, but I swear it was in self-defense
I shot the sheriff, and they say it is a capital offense
Freedom came my way one day
And I started out of town
All of a sudden I see sheriff John Brown
Aiming to shoot me down
So I, so I had to shoot him down
I say
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
Reflexes got the better of me
And what will be, will be
Every day the bucket goes to the well
But one day the bottom will drop out
Yes, one day the bottom will drop out
But I say
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy
I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot no deputy

Saw Clapton two weeks ago. He is now 74 years old, so i went to the concert without having big expectations.
Ended up being the best musical experience of my life
How was it? Albert Hall?
@@TheIzzatsyamim It was great. Saw him in Mannheim, Germany. He played both Layla-versions :)
He is quality of course and also no fool - that is Steve Gadd on drums... former Steely Dan and arguably the best session drummer in the world. In his former band he had Steve Ferrone on drums (Average White Band followed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), Nathan East on bass and Greg (I really wrote most of Thriller) Phillinganes on keys. Andy Fairweather Low as his backup guitarist for over a decade - these are all proven journey men of popular music and recording. Who was Clapton's best friend and the guitarist he admired (even more than Jimi, Buddy, Albert and Robert)... George Harrison. The mans got class.

WHAT A SOLO
Matheus Lima one of my all time favourite Clapton solos for sure. I heard it today after years, and I was blown away yet again.
Ah, reminiscing about the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival - I was just a 12-year-old then. A day and night etched in my memory forever, witnessing my guitar idol Eric Clapton alongside legends like BB King, John Mayer, Buddy Guy, and more. I find myself playing this version a lot from the sweet memory, of the 12-hour show with my parents. Despite the scorching heat, the journey from New Jersey to Chicago was entirely worthwhile. ❤🎸
One of the top guitar players in the world. If not the best one
Actually the Best👑🥇👑
I love the fact that they adequately show the background singers in this video. It's amazing rare, even when their role is very important.

What's really emotional here is seeing Ronnie Wood in the audience cheering on his friend. 50 years ago, Ronnie was one of the friends who coaxed Eric off heroin and they both participated in the legendary Rainbow Concert.

Tell him while there's time!
❤❤
Have you listened to the original version by Bob Marley?
The reason I hate this rendition of this song is because this artist changed a very powerful line in the lyric.
"Every time I plant a seed
He said kill it before it grow
He said kill *THEM* (black people) before they grow."
This is why I dont feel like reggae music is for white people because this is what they do everytime they dip into our shit. Reggae was created to scream out the struggles of my people, not for people like this guy to manipulate the lyrics and change the meaning.
X Campbell Yes, I did, but I prefer this version
this spirited live version shows that clapton is able to weave his own guitar magic on the song without smothering it.
Clapton's dynamics are what makes him so special to me. He has the ability to play with high energy and shred like he's getting paid by the note, but the solo in this track just builds. The way he layers the foundation and builds to the climax is incredible.
They'll worship him for his flash, but they'll keep coming back for that technique.
I met Eric Clapton's step brother Brian while serving in the Canadian Armed Forces at CFB Summerside PEI .
We were housed on Base in Military Barracks . His room was across from mine.
Brian loved that song I SHOT THE SHERIFF so much he constantly played it over and over again .
He was very proud of his brother Eric .
Brian bought himself a motorcycle . and gave me a ride on it just before I went home on Leave in 1974 .
The last words I said to him was " Don't kill yourself on it ' . and that's what happened , he lost control of his motorcycle and was killed .
I found out about it when I returned to Base after my Leave was over .
Eric Clapton was there for Brian's funeral I was told .
Brian was a cool guy and a great friend . RIP Brian .

He is one of the best guitarist l have ever seen.God save Erick.
The most versatile guitarist and performer in the universe, from blues, hard rock, to reggae and more. My inspiration.
Quite possibly the most successful, well rounded musician ever. He was apart of five, FIVE great bands- the Yardbirds, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos. Not to mention his solo career is phenomenal. He's a top three guitarist of all time, along with a voice that compliments his playing style oh so very well. To top it all off, the adversity he has overcome throughout his life to become what he has, is more important than anything he's accomplished musically. His autobiography is truly a great read.
