Fruit is high in sugar and isn’t really so healthy.
    Timestamps:
0:00 If sugar is so bad then why is fruit so healthy?
0:38 We’re consuming more sugary fruits
1:38 Fructose all goes to your liver
Someone asked me, if sugar is so bad then why is fruit so healthy?
First of all, I never said that fruit was so healthy, okay? It’s not part of a healthy keto plan. That being said, let me explain.
The fruits we consume now are hybrids, and over the years they’ve been bred to become sweeter and sweeter. Honey crisp apples, for example, have 19 grams of sugar. Take a look at a crabapple; it doesn’t have 19 grams of sugar.
Fruits should be seasonal. If you’re consuming them all year, that’s not really natural. Some people don’t differentiate between whole fruit and fruit juice. But fruit juice is without fiber and nutrients because it’s pasteurized. It’s heated, which kills a lot of the enzymes and heat-sensitive vitamins. Juice is basically pure sugar as compared with whole fruit which has vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and fiber.
The fruit has nutrients that are protective against DNA damage and diseases like diabetes. However, it also has a great amount of sugar called fructose. Fructose doesn’t go to all the cells in the body like glucose does. It all goes to your liver. This means it doesn’t spike your blood glucose as much as sugar.
You might think this is good, but the point is that your liver has to deal with all of the fructose you eat. If you eat too much, it could lead to insulin resistance, which will raise your insulin.
If there’s too much fructose for your liver to handle, it will convert it to fat, cholesterol, and triglycerides. Because of the high percentage of people who have problems with blood sugar and prediabetes, I recommend you stick with a small amount of berries, not fruit.
Diabetes is a disease of high blood sugar, so why would you want to consume fruit and add more sugar to your diet?

This is absolutely true. I grew up in the Palatinate Forest and we still have the original wild fruits and nuts growing within it, just as it was thousands of years ago. And let me tell you, the wild apple is the size of my thumb, extremely hard and fibrous, the wild berries all get eaten by the birds and most of the hazelnuts (and to some degree the chestnuts) get hauled away by the squirrels. Not to mention we also have the european wild boar roaming and deer. The amount of animals way outnumber human population and in the end not much if any at all is left for us. Before agriculture and the neolithic era, we didn't have access to daily fruit, potatoes and nuts. Although considered paleolithic, these foods in excess (longer than 1 season) do more harm than good. The wild growing Sauerampfer (don't know english word) is to die for though, unless the rabbits find it first.

Other meals like pasta, chicken bbq , steak , chicken ceaser salad, eggs bacon were all good to normal after 4 hours , you should get a glucose meter to know what raises your sugar (makes u fat) , but if not generally speaking 4 hours you should not eat after your meal

Fructose in its untouched form seems to get digested by the body much easier. The factory farms and processed food diet is what is truly the problem.

If you're someone who is in great shape and works out a lot, fruit is an excellent snack near your workout in my opinion. That's when your body really can use the sugar. If you're a marathon+ runner especially. Easy to digest quick energy, pair it with a healthy fat and some type of low glycemic index carb to get sustained energy on those extremely long runs, so as your body runs out of the fruit sugar you just ate, it switches to the fat and complex carbs. Not ideal for weight loss though; I wouldn't recommend it to someone doing cardio to lose weight.

Dr. Berg, in order to better or full understand, would you please explain: Is it healthy eating fruits and not healthy taking fruits juice? Or is it both NOT HEALTHY eating and/or taking fruits juice? Eating apple, for example, is so unhealthy as taking apple juice?
Or how much fruits a day can anyone consume and not getting insuline resistant, or destroying the liver, or "committing suicide"?
    Thank you.

I used to leave bad commitments as I thought you were a quack
But after watching more of your videos, and fact checking
You are always correct and bring up topics like this that no one has never even thought of
    Thank you

Great Video Dr Berg! Can you please also do a video on the Asian Paradox - ie. If rice is so bad, why can Asians eat so much rice and stay slim?

Fruits vegetables herbs grain nuts are amazing. I don't care what anybody says. Just balance out your intake of consumption. What doctors don't to much admit is it's not the foods that's unhealthy it's HOW you balance your consumption. Everybody body is different. So eat accordingly.

I used to follow all Dr Bergs advice religiously for about 2 years out of the 3 total years I did strict keto. I gained 25 lbs eating mostly beef, eggs, and vegetables, keeping total carbs under 20. It's not hard to eat too many CALORIES of high fat meat, which results in weight gain.
I added bananas, apples (also sweet potatoes, rice) back into my diet and started eating leaner meats, and dropped all the weight I gained on keto, and then some. Fruit isn't the enemy.

We're still blessed in Africa to eat fruits only in their season, both sweet and sour.
    So, there's a balance.
