Mark is an outstanding drummer and really brings out the best in this Brooklyn kit. Always enjoy seeing him play and listening to the great Gretsch Sound.

Those of you wondering about the heads: Gretsch sends the Brooklyns out with their pretty high end Permatone heads by Remo- it's actually an Ambassador. The kick has a Permatone Powerstroke by Remo. I have a standard Brooklyn kit: 22, 10, 12, 16 and 14/5 smare. These drums just sing! Those of you wondering about the kick- that's the sound it makes- my 22 has the same tone, just a lower pitch. Brooklyns are supposed to be a modern take on the 50's/60's sound and I think Gretsch crushed it. You could cut a hole in the kick and put some dampening in there if you wish, but why? That's not the point of these drums. I have gig kits from other manufacturers that I do that to and it keeps the sound guys happy, but I'll never cut a hole in the Brooklyns. The Drum Center of Portsmouth has some really good TH-cam videos about Gretsch drums, check them out. No, I don't work for them! Now get out there and drum!

Beautiful kit, love the wrap. And the drumming really showcases the range of those drums.

These smaller-than-bop sizes compliment his textural avant garde soloing very well.

the sound of these drums is hypnotizing and that's a beautiful finish ... Gretsch just stole me right away from Pearl , I have a reference series kit I bought in 05 when they were first introduced and was looking at a ref pure in bop sizes , but that Great Gretsch sound got me and I bought a brooklyn micro , I have it for about a month now and I absolutely love it ...

Man. I love hearing this guy solo. I like it better than any of the written music, honestly. Not in a bad way at all. I just find his playing so artful on it's own. I love the Mehliana stuff, though. I want to here him get into some major free improvisation ensemble and get into textural long form pieces.

This is the best sounding small kit I've heard. It may have more to do with the heads, tuning and drummer than the drums. Most of the other brands sound like cardboard boxes because the players are trying to use them in a r&r setting and almost always use the supplied, crap, heads. Also, at over twice the price of other similar sized kits, they should sound better.

The cymbals move when he hits them on the edge with the shoulder of the stick... no screw and small diameter felts help.
