    Love watching and listening to Mark play.. He's so fluid, like the drums are an extension of his limbs.. His work on Bowie's final album is testament to that fact..

    An exceptionally individual (as in distinctively unique) sound. You can hear Mark before you see him play!

    If I ever find a place to live with my drums set up without reservation again I will seriously consider the Brooklyn Broadcaster Gretsch or the Classic series.
    The size of the drums and type of drumheads mean the world to me.
    I am a lifelong drummer, and I know what I want almost 50 years old, and been at it seriously since early childhood.
    I have a limited edition Pearl Brazilian percussion conversion drumset now, but not really able to use it as much time.
    For me, Gretsch, even the Catalina Club Jazz series, stood out, over the years, as particularly memorable tone and what I felt as, more like my own instrument, more than anything else I ever had a chance to play, in or out of studios, bars, shows.
    The Broadcaster line I feel, in the right drum configuration, could be the Best I have yet to see as a drummer.
    18" Bass
    14" Floor
    12" Tom
    Standard all I want.
    Best regards,
    Austin Emile Centolella

    Mark has no qualms about snare overtones, unlike others, who want to deaden everything.
    Great sounding drums.

    Go and listen to his drumming on Bowie's final album Black Star, and you'll see why the man was chosen by the thin white duke himself. His drumming on every song is haunting, bringing the album to an almost mystical sense, both in performance and sound.

    I like the ring. Mark uses it to add another dimension to the overall sound. It sounds like Church Bells ringing, especially around the 2 minute mark.

    Unfortunately a lot of young drummers today, would kill off the natural snare overtones, with tape or moongel.

      Yes...I like a little less overtones, but not dead.
      I find high tuning is a happy medium.

    Wonderful drumming on a great drum set. I do wonder if the ringing snare drum would suit say, a modern jazz quartet or quintet?

    • @jas_bataille
      @jas_bataille ปีที่แล้ว

      Most definitely. Let that snare breath! Besides, you can anything you want... and you can always deaden it if you want to anyway. But you can't bring overtones to a snare that isn't alive...!!!

    I'm an old school drummer so why not include the Gretsch tone controls. I tell you what, why do some drummers like the oem Gretsch heads that make great drums sound like crappy ringing tin cans? Just don't understand. C.W.

    Pretty great sounding drums, save the snare. The ghost notes come off nice, but the full strokes produce way too much ring! To each his own, though. The tom sounds awesome.

    • @maxsergeant7148
      @maxsergeant7148 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because of the drumhead that the accents produce too much overtones.
      A better head would cut of more overtones.

      Mark often dampens his snares a ton, there are benefits to both methods. Mark even puts his wallet on his snare. Sometimes overtones are nice other times they aren't.

    • @maxsergeant9934
      @maxsergeant9934 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Raul Duke why would you do that if you can play what he is playing. Honestly I don't like the sound of the snare and toms at all, the bassdrum sounds really good. But I can still hear how the drums sound eventhough he is playing a lot. Less isn't always more.
