    Mark's sound is one of the reasons I bought a Gretsch after 30 years of paying dues on a 30 year old entry level set. It is a 2013 USA Custom in bop sizes. It belonged to Freda Love who played with Juliana Hatfield in the 1990s. No regrets at all. I can barely look at it some weeks because it is such an amazing instrument. But I hall it out every week to play with the same amateur crew I've played with for 15 years. This thing feels like a collectors item. Like future antique furniture or sculpture, even if you don't play. It's art.

    Just realized I got to see him play that night with the fresh shells. They totally melted my face, I was in awe! The sound and sensitity of the drums were incredible.

    The 16" sounds killer with the beater striking far above center. I love that Mark plays jazz with a muffled bass drum. Sounds very contemporary

      I see the felt strips under both reso and batter heads, but it doesn't sound that muffled does it? It just sounds amazing.

      Yeah, it looks almost like the beater is at utmost top of the drum. That's the coolest 16 inch bass drum I've ever seen.

      Weirdly enough this is the same you get from a 24" or above, both at the opposite size. Makes me wonder if I want to continue using bigger bass drums after all...!

      @@jas_bataille only if you do Jazz Tuning and suffocate the Bass drum, to me a Standard Bass Drum is 24" , a 22" is small. my Gretsch Broadcaster Bass can do a lot more than that, a 16 or 18 has limits and no range.

      @@conscious___creators I can tell you as the proud owner of a Broadkaster bop kit that it is worth every penny. They are the best set of drums I have ever owned without question and sound great with what I do. I hope you get to own your own Broadkaster real soon and enjoy them for years to come as every drummer deserves to own the kit of their dreams.
      With this though, if you plan on ordering your custom Broadkaster soon, expect a long wait as they are backed up on custom orders due to COVID. I have a couple of additional Broadkaster drums that I ordered back in October and they will not be here until January if not later.

      @dennyburkes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, thanks. I was thinking 6000 since that's the hardware set he's using. I just need a new pedal and can't decide what I want to get. I want something that's ultra-simple... not a bunch of bells & whistles.

    • @richardpine8011
      @richardpine8011 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DW 6000 is very similar to the original Camco 5000 that DW started to make. I haven't tried one but the 5000's I've tried have been lovely, I think I prefer the larger footprint of the floor plate but they're similar cam wise. Yamaha are great for simple pedals that just work out of the box. Their hardware is very well made.

    • @dennyburkes
      @dennyburkes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah! I had forgotten about Yamaha. I'll check those out. I currently have a 1990's DW5000, an Iron Cobra, an old Speed King, and a few other entry level pedals. I like the minimalist look of the Sonor JoJo pedal, but it doesn't seem to get great reviews. The search continues. Tough to beat DW though.
