Zen and the Art of Street Photography: Rinzi Ruiz

  • Rinzi Ruiz discovered his passion for street photography on the cavernous streets of downtown Los Angeles. I caught up with Rinzi on my recent LA trip and asked him about his motivation and how living in LA has shaped his work.
Rinzi's street photography captures the loneliness of city life set against the aging grandeur of the architecture of downtown LA. Soaring buildings dwarf their residents as he pulls poetic moments out of the chaos of everyday life.
You can check out more of Rinzi's work on his website at:

Thanks Frank! My plan is to add a lot more features in addition to the occasional camera review that comes a long. Tons more interesting stuff coming to the channel real soon!

Great job Rinzi, I love your work! Could I ask what bag you use on 3:24? Looks great. Thanks

Hi Jakub, huge thanks man! Sure, I use a bag from Rothco called Urban Explorer Bag. The company offers a lot of military and tactical equipment so the bag isn't necessarily made for cameras. I put a padded insert inside to make it work for me. I found it at an Army surplus store but I've seen it online on Amazon and Ebay. What I like about the bag is that it has a lot of pockets so I can keep personal items and camera gear in one bag. It doesn't scream camera bag so I like that too. I also like the size and have brought it on travels and is also my everyday bag. I can hold the X100F, small flash, TCL-X100, batteries and other items in it with some space to spare. It's also held the X-T1 with lenses and X-pro2 with lenses. If I'm carrying more gear especially for work I use a bigger Rothco Messenger Bag with a camera bag insert. The bags are really affordable and the inserts found on ebay/amazon are also inexpensive.

I've never heard of you. Your pictures are class, some remind me of Fan Ho. I live in London and it's totally dull, I need contrast.

canturgan Many thanks! The one day I was in London I got sun. It was in May 2015. Got lucky. Haha. But I do hear that a lot from UK photography friends.

Are those hats a prerequisite for middle-aged street photographers?

Ruined by the ridiculous bass background music!
