- After running this rifle for 10 months hunting, shooting long range and taking it to competitions, I finally present my full review of the Christensen Arms MPR rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. Very thorough review. I'm looking at the Christian Arms MPR and the Sig Sauer Cross. The Cross is a cheaper option, but the MPR is chambered with more options. I'll probably wait until after the 2023 Shot Shot to decide (and save up money), but that MPR does look really nice.
If the Cross was available when I originally bought the MPR I would have seriously considered it. I've thought of picking one up to compare the two. I do like that the MPR has a little longer barrel for the velocity. I also appreciate the additional calibers and the fact that you can get it in a long action. I have since bought one in 6.5 PRC.
I'm in the same boat - 6.5CM in 18" in sig cross or a 22" in Christensen MPR. Europtic has the pre-2022 versions in the MPR for cheaper almost bridging the gap between the FLC cross and the MPR... the only difference is the woven pattern carbon fiber on the furniture vs. the current slate gray shaded carbon fiber. I called Christensen to confirm that difference yesterday. This was a great review and I think pushed me over the edge toward the MPR. plus the barrel profile looks a little sturdier for adding a can etc.

I bought an MPR and then wanted a .22 bolt rifle to train my young daughter to run a bolt. I got the Christensen Ranger, and the failure to extract was so bad I sent it back multiple times. Each time it ended up having more issues when I received it back. After the third time Christensen just bought it back from me. I hated it did that, as I liked the rifle and it was accurate. My MPR hasn't had any issues like that, but my pattern does open up quite a bit as the barrel heats up. If I wait a lo g time between shots to cool, it's a tack driver!
That's too bad that you have so many issues with the Ranger. I had just purchased a Bergara 22lr before they came out with the Ranger, so never looked into them too much. I've also been very please with the MPR and actually just bought a second one in 6.5 PRC.
@@AdventureColorado I looked at the Bergara semi-auto. It looked pretty nice, I started reading about them and an article was saying they could be picky on ammunition...don't know the truth to that though. I'll have to check them out again. What I'd really like it a Voodoo .22, I like how they have a ramp less system to keep your lead from denting at all, and getting better accuracy. But they're pretty pricey! Lol
I looked into the Voodoo actions as well. The Bergara that I bought is a bolt action that is the same Remington 700 footprint, similar to a Voodoo. I haven't shot it much yet, but the idea was to have a trainer that felt like a full size rifle.

I had a 300 MPR nothing but problems my target look like a shotgun hit it don't know what the issue was I'll stick with a Tikka any day of the week

I have never had a failure to extract or eject with my MPR, but I did with a Ranger. It ended up being so bad I had sent it in 2 separate times and it was never fixed, so Christensen did end up buying it back from me. Even though I had problems, Dave over at customer service was incredible to deal with. Not only did they try to fix it and end up buying it back, they send me a bunch of free merchandise (hooded sweatshirt, t-shirts, hats and more) for my trouble.
What caliber is your MPR? I think some of the magnum calibers have been more reliable due to the presence of dual ejectors. That is unfortunate the Ranger wasn't reliable for you. I considered buying one, but I had just bought a Bergara 22 LR chassis that is designed around the Remington 700 platform that allows the use of stocks and triggers designed for the R700.
@@AdventureColorado My MPR is 6.5 CM. I ended up getting a chassis model CZ 457, and liked it so much I bought the Match grade CZ 457 with Manners stock. It's the newest one that is carbon fiber and flattened and predrilled for an Arca Rail...also has the adjustable cheek riser. Since the sharp increase in ammo cost I have gone to shooting those CZ .22's alot more, my holds at 300 yards are very similar to my holds with the 6.5 CM at 1000 yards. I can also get 1000 match grade rounds delivered to my door for around $150. So I'm able to shoot 3 days a week without my wife making me sleep on the couch...lol.
I've never shot those Bergara .22's but I've heard they are really nice shooters.
About that Ranger, I think the marrying of metals to make the action lighter was a big mistake, since the bolt just rides on a few rails inside an aluminum frame, but Christensen did take care of me, so hats off to them for that.
I bought the Bergara for almost the same reasons, precision rifle practice for a fraction the cost and the ability to mimic longer ranges. I also like the idea of it being the same size and feel as a full size rifle. I was looking at CZ, but wanted the Remington 700 footprint. Currently I have it in an AI AT chassis.

Solid Review. It looks like a very nice Rifle. I am looking into picking up one of these a 22” MPR 6.5 CM Bolt Action in a Chassis of some Kind. This MPR Rifle From Christensen Arms Caught my Eyes, since it’s one I can but out of the box, clean, lube& Add Ammunition and immediately head to a range to continue to build & improve off of my present skill set(s). As I’ve never done any true long range shooting, only stuck with more practical shooting steel Torso Targets using carbines for minute of man accuracy out to 750 yards for. semi intermediate & Full power rifle calibers sent from an auto feeding magazine fed platform in more of a DMR-ISH Philosophy of use since I found shooting steel it to not only be good for stress relief, but also is a skill set that has a practical survival application on the off chance the world goes to shit and our lives going forward will depend on our skills and ability to accurately place rounds on a target that isn’t made of paper or tempered AR500 steel.

As I leaned long ago that if I tried to start off with a “budget item” that wasn’t what I truly wanted, the. In the end it would always end costing me MOarR in the long run than if I’d bought a higher quality item which I wanted in the first place. As by the time you end up upgrading and replacing some of majority of the major components as I learned more and figured out what items did/didn’t work for the specific purpose for which I intended to use a given gun depending on the role it would serve as a piece of a larger philosophy of use as a whole. As imo I’ve found out that it’s more effective for me to start off buying high quality gear, that I’ll be able to grow into. That way any errors in accuracy I might encounter falls back exclusively on mr & my present skill set & isn’t a result of a faulty gear/faulty weapons system.
As while it’s a significant invest me, I find sending freedom weeds towards a steel torso target highly relaxing & then as soon as you watch the vapor trail heading towards your intended target, and hear the Tactile feed back ringing off the steel once impact has occurred, there’s something visceral and oddly satisfying from reaching out and getting a first round hit at something far enough away that it’s hardly Visible with the naked eye. Not to mention imo food that I killed, cleaned cooked& brought home to fill the bellies of myself n my loved ones simply takes better than a steak I picked up at Costco....
I have this same rifle in 6.5 creedmoor with a 24” barrel and I also have the BA Tac in 338 lapua. Love them both. My 338 lapua with a 27” barrel weighs less than any of my other rifles except the smaller MPR.
How is the recoil on the 338 Lapua? I don't have a magnum caliber CA rifle, but I get a lot of questions about how the recoil would feel with a 338 Lapua, 300 PRC, etc.
@@AdventureColorado the BA TAC in 338 recoils very little actually due to the muzzle break.. The mfer just has a report like no other tho.
Fantastic review. I love the look of this rifle and am specifically looking at it because of the really light weight. The main hessitation is the 338 Lapua I have seen a lot of people having issues with it.
What issues are you seeing or hearing about with the 338? I would really like to try the MPR out in a 338 Lapua or 300 PRC. I think some of the issues with accuracy that I am hearing about could be related to shooters that are not used to handling a heavy recoiling round and then shooting it out of a lightweight rifle. That's probably not all of the issues, but I have found a couple instances where that seems very likely.

It is now two years later watching your video; Vortex Razor is much too heavy, and it is why I went with the Vortex PST line of scopes (all models) more affordable priced scopes.
The weight of the Razor is really more in line with a big heavy competition or bench gun. I also felt like it defeated some of the purpose of selecting a light MPR rifle.
As the owner of a Christensen Arms Ridgeline who put that action into a McMillan A3 Sporter I have a much more suitable rifle. As far as the 6-5 Creedmoor as a hunting caliber for big game. I would never use that caliber on a recent elk hunt two shots canceled right through the elk without killing it at 500 yards. We were shooting premium ammunition from the gun manufacturer with the right accubond bullets. Get a larger game killing caliber if you want to shoot big game is my feeling
The basic stock is one of the main reasons I decided not to go with a Ridgeline. The barrel and action should be basically the same as the MPR, so swapping stocks definitely gives a better overall feel and shootability of the rifle.

Have never had a FTF / FTE with this rifle. Mine is the MPR CF in 300 PRC. Only thing I don’t like is the magazine rattle. I have a pretty low round count on mine for a 2yr old gun and it shoots MOA or better with factory ammo. I hope to reload some this fall when the temps drop a bit. The one I would like to get next is probably the ELR or Titanium action. Staying with 6.5 creed for short distance and 300 PRC for stretching out. Cheers
It seems like the magnum calibers have fewer issues. I think it is the dual ejector setup that they use. The ELR is a nice looking gun, I’ve considered one of those as well.
Ive cut my teeth on LR shooting with a RPR, and this one I'm looking to trade for... I need something a little lighter and a little more accurate. Nice review.

I got one in 300wm and had such mixed feelings that considering the price, I got rid of it. I thought it felt pretty light, mostly because the weight is more to the rear. It felt very balanced. The look is amazing, and the folding stock was solid and had plenty of adjustment.
The issue I had was with the bolt and the loose magazine.
The bolt was so loose that right when it arrived, both my FFL and I were kind of jaw dropped at how horrible it felt. If you gave the bolt any side load at all while cycling, it would just bind up and stop in the rearward position after ejecting. That was a no-go for me.
Having Rem 700s, Tikka T3x's, a Lone Peak, couple Savages, and a CZ550, the MPR felt god awful
Every bolt action rifle I own is at minimum twice as good on action smoothness and ease of motion/feeding.
Lol, come to think of it, even my Mosin Nagant felt better...
I'm surprised how loose your bolt was, for the two MPR rifles that I have the bolts are smooth and travel easily, although I do think some of that is due to a looser fit that a typical Remington action. I don't have an issue with either binding or feeling poor, but they certainly aren't as tightly fit and smooth as the Defiance Tenacity that I have either.

Yes, both the 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 PRC. I haven't tried on of their long actions. Maybe that's part of the difference?
@AdventureColorado Might be the main reason. Still, I just bought a Bergara LRP 2.0 in 300 wm and the bolt feel is excellent 😍
Hey man thanks for the great review! I was looking for some mpr reviews as I am in the market for a new rifle and it’s been a bit of a toss up between this rifle and my own build. Either way it’s going to cost about the same but from what I’ve heard about their warranty and customer service might make it worth it to me to go the mpr route. Where are you out of? I am from Cortez Co. Long live Colorado!
I think you will be happy with it, from what I've seen they will make things right if you do have issues. It's annoying to have to use warranty repairs on a rifle at this price, but at least they will take care of you. I'm based out of Bailey, CO.

Absolutely, that is pretty much the same reason I purchased the two MPR rifles I own. I used the 6.5 PRC MPR for a solo elk backpacking trip last year. I liked being able to fold the stock while packing in the day before the hunt and after filling my cow elk tag. I also like the carbon fiber barrel as a stiff, but light mounting option for a suppressor.

I like Eotech's optics overall, but I haven't tried any of their magnified options. I would definitely like to get my hands on one to test out, but as of right now I just don't know enough about them to really say.
@@AdventureColorado Much appreciated on the honesty, I think they should at some point to a better job of getting the product in the hands of influencers. But, they really don't have to until supply exceeds demand. And we aren't even close to that.
No problem, I haven't seen a lot of them out in the wild yet. This channel isn't big enough to get demo equipment from the manufacturers. That allows me to choose what I buy and review, but limits the funds I have available.
Have you tried to run 180 and 200 grain ammo in it? Or does it only do well with 140 grain ammo? How is your bolt is it somewhat stiff?
It’s a 6.5 Creedmoor, so 120-140 gr ammo is typical, I’ve run 143 gr ELD-X and they work great. That’s the heaviest I’ve gone. Bolt lift is heavier than my Defiance action, but not bad. I can keep my eye in the scope during bolt manipulation just fine.

The rifles aren't made to order, but the MPR comes in 16", 20" and 24" barrel options. They come with a threaded barrel and Christensen Arms muzzle brake.
Hi, I just looked at this gun at the store and I noticed that when the bolt is black there’s a lot of play, way more than my current bolt action. I noticed that if you give it any upward motion upon close that it catches and sticks in its open position. Have you ever encountered this issue? ...also as a follow up question, do you think this would be too light to get in 300 PRC for hunting and non-competition long range fun?
There is definitely some play in the bolt when it is rearward, but I haven't noticed any issues with mine binding up with pressure.
As far as magnum calibers, I think that really depends on your experience with heavy recoiling rifles. The muzzle brake does a great job of taming recoil, but if you aren't used to or comfortable shooting with recoil it won't be pleasant. I think a number of the reports of bad accuracy that you see about Christensen Arms are shooters that can't handle a magnum cartridge in a lightweight rifle.
The .300 PRC barely kicks harder than say a 6.5CM or .308
The muzzle brake definitely works. As anyone that stands 3 yards to the side can also attest lol. You'd be fine in getting it. If I didn't want another round to reload I'd get it but I'll just shoot my buddy's

What is that tripod you have gun on in the beginning of vidro
That is a really old Promaster tripod that I bought from a Mikes Camera probably 15 years ago. It's not what I typically use while shooting, but I was using the better Manfrotto tripod for the camera.

Its a 50mm objective and Vortex medium height rings.
I would get highs for 50mm because the hand guard comes up a bit. Btw I have a 44mm vx5 in medium vortex/seekins rings on my Christensen mpr in 6.5 Creedmoor and it’s just right with vortex scope caps on. I also have a Nightforce NX8 that has a 50mm objective and I think it would be too tight of a fit if I didn’t use the vortex/seekins High’s

I just purchased this rifle in 6.5 creed. So far I only have about 100 rounds through it. Still breaking in the barrel. I have started to collect all the components to reload. What is the best combination you have found works with this model?
I haven't experimented a whole lot with different powders and bullets. My go-to is H4350 with either a 140 ELD-M or a 143 ELD-X.
I’m looking at getting this rifle chambered in 300 Win Mag. I’m concerned that the weight may be a disadvantage in this caliber. What are your thoughts? How does this rifle compare to your Ruger Precision Rifle?
I found the included muzzle brake really helps to cut the recoil down. I bought a 6.5 PRC version and the recoils is barely more than the Creedmoor. I haven’t tried it in a Win Mag yet.
Quick question- Is the cheek rest reversible/able to be swapped over for a left-handed shooter?
Unfortunately it is not, it would stick backwards if you mounted it for left handed. I don't believe the MPR is available in left hand, but I know the Ridgeline and Mesa models are.
Great reviews! Very thorough. Your reviews aided in my purchasing the 16" .308 MPR. You said your MPR came with two magazines, were they magpul? Mine only came with one Christensen Arms AICS magazine. I bought the rifle about a month ago. Possibly something new. I am shopping for optics for the MPR, and considering the PST Gen 2. However, I have had issues with the Gen 1 PST turrets getting bumped when packing/hiking while hunting. Have you had any issues with the turrets moving on the PST Gen 2 when packing it?
Yes, the mags that I got were both Magpul. I know they were working on doing their own magazines, so that could have changed.
I have had some issues with the turrets moving going in and out of a backpack. You have to build the habit to double check where everything is set, but locking caps would be better if you are concerned about the movement.

It's called the Sporting Rifle Match and it's at the NRA Whittington Center. I haven't used either of those scopes, but the Leupold Mark 5 seems to be a really popular choice for an adjustable scope with locking turrets.

May I know if replacing the trigger with a TT Diamond with affect accuracy, like ruining the factory calibration? (btw is there a way to sell the removed factory trigger, or is it just $$ gone in the trash bin...)
The Modern Precision Rifle comes with a Trigger Tech trigger already, so there is no issue replacing it with an upgraded model if you want to. Just get a Trigger Tech designed for the Remington 700, Brownells currently has these on sale: bit.ly/3hvy2tC. And you could sell the old Trigger Tech. It is a more basic model than the Diamond, but would still be an upgrade to a factory Remington trigger.
Good review, I bought one and it showed poor workmanship,fit and finish, so I figured I would give them another chance,second one was worse.i returned them both, would not recommend buying christensen rifles
that’s definitely frustrating, on their Facebook group there are a lot of people with QC issues, but also quite a few without any issues.
Nice video. What's the scope ring height on your rifle
I used the Vortex Precision Matched medium height, which they list as .97 inches.
What would a comparable style rifle be that handles recoil better?
The design of the rifle is fine, it's just light. To absorb more recoil it would need to be heavier. A rifle with a steel barrel and heavier chassis would be better at handling recoil, but harder to carry if you want to hunt with it.
I just purchased this gun and I can't decide what height rings to use to mount my nightforce nx8. Any suggestions or is it all a matter of preference? Thanks!
With accurate ballistic apps and a highly adjustable buttstock I don’t think it is as important to get as low to the bore as it used to be. If having the scope a little higher gets you into a more comfortable position you will probably shoot better than with your head too low. With medium height Vortex rings I have the adjustable cheek riser as low as it will go to get the proper position behind the scope.

It depends on what you want to do with it. Obviously if you are just shooting steel you can push it further than you would for hunting. I'm running a 140gr ELD-M at 2700 fps. At 6,000 feet of elevation I have about 1722 fps and 921 ft-lbs left at 1,000 yards. Plenty to ring steel, but if you want to stick with around 1,500 ft-lbs of energy as a minimum, as some people advocate for hunting, that would put the effective range just shy of 500 yards.

How’s this setup been holding up over the past few years?
It's been working great. I've taken several deer and antelope with it. I bought a second MPR in 6.5 PRC so my son will take this one and I'll take the PRC when we are hunting together. He has taken a deer and antelope with it as well.

to each his own, for me any 7 mag ( any mag!!!) should be at least 9 lbs, any 300 mag 10-12 minimum. No doubt it is a decent rifle albeit too light.
There are a lot of advantages of a heavier gun. I specifically wanted lightweight for backpack Elk hunting.

They list the 24" barrel as 1508756. If you are looking at the MPR they are essentially the same gun with a choice between different calibers. Some of the more popular calibers have more than one barrel length available.

Too bad on the extraction issues. I wonder if one could put a Mauser extractor on it?
I don't think that modification could be made. The Mauser claw would need major changes to the action to accommodate.
@@AdventureColorado I wonder if this the extraction issue is one of the reasons that the Barrett MRAD was picked over others? Although, maybe Christensen did not have one in the mix with the Military.
To my knowledge Christiansen Arms didn't submit anything for the military trials.
@@AdventureColorado Makes sense, as they are a smaller Company. They would have to make some major changes if they did get the contract.

If you can find one in-stock at a gun store it would be a good idea to handle it first. There are reports of a loose fit on the Christensen Arms Facebook group. It seems to be hit or miss.
What height rings are you running on your vortex optic?

Still having extraction issues?
I swapped out the extractor and spring with a new one that Christensen Arms sent me. I’ve only shot around 20-30 rounds through it since and it’s worked fine, but I’d like to shoot a couple hundred before I truly feel it’s reliable.

Loftus Stanford I’m thinking of going on a hunt in NZ (one day when we can travel again). I’m assuming the 30” overall length requirement does not allow the muzzle break to be counted in that?

@@AdventureColorado t h r extraction a n d ejection issues are what changed my mind. My friend shoots in the ELR 1 and 2 Mile competition.
He dhoots a 33XC on a Savage 110 Elite.He does pretty good too

Good video. Supporting you with a sub. Hope you’d consider a return sub. I’ve been thinking about something like this for hunting. Downsides of using it for that ?
It’s a great choice for hunting if you want the ergonomics of a chassis rifle without the weight of a typical competition rifle. If you just want to go as light as possible a lightweight rifle like their Ridgeline with a lighter scope would weigh a little less.

Christensen Arms have lost accuracy and quality because they chose to grow there business too fast. Look online and you will see the large number of their firearm’s in stock and for sale, while other manufacturers firearm’s are harder to get. The carbon fiber barreled rifles are not very accurate and “throw” 3rd shot more often than not. There are known quality control issues within the company. Do yourself a favor and don’t take a chance with a Christensen Arms firearm.

I had some issue and reached out to Christensen Arms and received some replacement parts. Checked out this video for details on that: th-cam.com/video/soCCbb4bH5U/w-d-xo.html Since then I haven't had any issues with it.
The mag wobble hasn't affected the feeding at all.
@@tbone541I saw another video regarding the mag wobble. They claim they cut the left side high to help the hunter remove the mag when using a tripod. They claim it’s a patent on their chassis.
