  • This is the 8th lesson in the Happy Hips, Knees and Feet series. It has some fabulous variations to help improve the flexibility of the chest.
    The lesson is based upon AY 471 'Continuation holding the knee'.

    Boy lessons 7 and 8 had delicious movements. Once I was able to give me weight to the ground through my organs the differentiation in the movements provided a profound release. I just wanted to stay on the floor and not get up . Ha! Hope that I can integrate this movement of the ribs into every day life. Thanks for the content, it’s perfect for this aging body

    I'm really enjoying a new awareness of the parts of my body and how they move in relation to each other. This lesson was particularly interesting.. And thanks for the clear and slow development of the exercises.

    Hi Stewart, I found this lesson quite challenging and another great one for my ribs. I couldn’t quite get the connection to lift my head but maybe next time. 🙏

    Yes! It was really a difference in the back, with the contact of the floor from the start compared to the end. It’s a Nice feeling to really feel completely grounded with the back.😊

    Great lesson Stewart, but wow, when interlacing fingers and trying to extend my hands/arms above my head, I realise just how tight and sore my shoulders and neck are. Also loved how your chair lesson to free the spine released my whole rib area which, despite being hyper-mobile is usually tight and a bit sore.

    Good morning. I did this the first time a month ago and two times in these days. I feel the right side of pelvis is more heavier the the other. Feldenkrais is my daily gladness. I listened to your “ Why I love Feldenkrais “ many times and wrote down. I ask myself what ‘reprogramming’ means. I keep doing and thinking of your lessons in this summer.

      It took much time to come back to no. 8 because I needed repetitions, parts and basics. I really hope I am following lessons as you teach us. It’s not easy to learn only by TH-cam lesson for me, still much joy and curious. Thank you!

    Hi Stewart, just did this lesson again after a month. So ingenious, these movements! A question: at the end (39:47), when you have your legs long and are turning to one side and then to the other - it looks like you are initiating the movement from the upper body. Would it affect the purpose of the lesson if the movement were initiated from the hips? More generally, in Feldenkrais lessons (and in life), I am sometimes unsure which part of the body should lead a movement and how isolated the movement should be. It seems like (almost) everything is possible, so what is optimal or natural?

    • @stewarthamblin
      @stewarthamblin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bea, you are right about the video at that point. There is was trying to initiate the movement from the upper body to work on thoracic rotation. Certainly, try it from the hips and see if you can sense the difference. Generally speaking its good to initiate from the pelvis core but it depends on what the intention is. Its good to have all the options.

    So today’s revelation. Something deep under my right shoulder blade was released and went immediately hot. Whatever that was had been irritating me and causing clicks and pops in the shoulder blade that side for years. Thankyou.

      Feldenkrais Moments with Stewart Hamblin the key movement was using the leg to drag on the shoulder while twisted. Great stuff.
