@@robertwhitemoto of course! Ride safe! I've been watching pretty much every review possible for a 2021 and newer GW. Been riding a Concours 14 for the last few years and thinking of buying a GW.
I want one, Robert this is the best review of a motorcycle I have ever seen. It must be a joy to ride. Surprised though that Honda did not protect the bottom of the engine but the Traxxion Dynamics aftermarket belly pan looks like it will save Goldwing owners a lot of money and headaches. Good luck with it, she is beautiful!
Albert, thank you for the kind words. I love this bike... it is a technological marvel. Silky smooth and yet powerful (at lease enough for me). I knew the traxxion pan was a must first purchase. I've seen videos of what breaks under the engine and it's not pretty and VERY expensive to repair. Thanks for watching and commenting !
Absolutely AMAZING review!!! It was long, BUT was very informative, just what I wanted, and at the right pace with no fanfare or extra showmanship crap. I feel much more comfortable about my impending purchase of the 2024 model now, thanks to you!
@@michaellafrance6454 thank you for the kind words. I absolutely love this bike and have not had 1 minute of second guessing the decision. I would buy again in a heartbeat.
I own a 1986 Honda gold wing gl1200 interstate model, when I first bought it for $1000 it had some minor issues with it, I got all the bugs worked out, I have to say for a 38 year old motorcycle, that is the best motorcycle I ever owned, I love everything about it, the best low center of gravity, wind protection, storage and the best motorcycle engine I personally ever experienced in my life. I can only imagine how much better the 2024 model is. When honda made the gold wing, they put the absolute best engineering into that machine thats available. I cant find a better motorcycle on planet earth. The quality is so great, I cant imagine riding anything else.
I’ve seen seemingly a million of these reviews and really hesitated spending an hour on this one. Super glad I did!!! Best one ever. I learned some things even though I have a2021 6 speed bagger. One quick suggestion I installed homelink in less than an hour using Wing Stuffs video. Still paying over $200 for essentially just a a garage door opener was a little hard to swallow. Love your videos and photography. Keep up the good work. It’s truly appreciated.
I totally agree this was too long !! There was so much I wanted to cover and I’m not a fast talker 😉. Thank you for the kind words! And thank you for spending an hour with me! Tell me again what color is your bagger?
Testifying to the belly pan requirement. Add one folks. I was lucky and only needed to patch it. I thought I would need to replace the casing once I ran over an iron barb in the road.
Very nice tutorial indeed... Bravo👍 I have a 2020 DCT Tour and it is an absolutely phenomenal machine and it brings a smile to my face every time I swing a leg over it 😁
I currently have a VTX1800 and have been eyeing more and more of the new style Goldwings for sale in my area. Love the VTX and when I do decide to upgrade I will definitely be going to the GW
Fabulous review Robert! So appreciate your thoughtful and authentic review. I imagine these videos can have their challenges...appreciate your nice and very informative work.
Excellent. I am off to get a Goldwing this June 2024. I am riding a BmW R1250 RT. A very good bike but I want the ultimate bike to ride. Your video is so well filmed and the explanation are so well put forward. I do agree with all you ask Honda to improve. I tried the bike and I immediately thought about new pegs for front and a carpet for the case. Thanks to you I did not know about protection engine. I will fix one like yours. Hope I can get one in France ?? Ride safe. 👏👏👏👍
Daniel! Thank you and congratulations! Thank you for watching all the way from France! I’m sure you can get the Traxxion engine guard. I accidentally bottomed out the bike this weekend on a speed bump and the engine protection did its job!
Nice I have the same bike and color I just bought a little over a week ago. I like it so far just learning the bike and the difference from a manual bike to the DCT.
Hey Jerome, thank you for watching and commenting… there’s lots of good sources of information here on TH-cam … Cruiseman’s Garage, Chris Caliente, just a few good ones.
Nice review, Robert. I've had mine for over 4 years & have made several upgrades, like the garage door opener, fog lights, trunk light, trunk rack, Pathfinder sequential brake/turn signals, headlight modulator, backrest, trunk organizer, wireless Android auto, F4 windshield, saddlebag luggage, & Garmin Zumo XT GPS. I like my Utopia backrest & handlebars, but am considering some of the same upgrades you are thinking about. I believe there will be some big changes in the 2025 year model, which will be its 50th anniversary. For instance, adaptive cruise control, for which they have already obtained a patent. You are doing a great job, sir & I've enjoyed every one of your videos.
Hey Nick, thanks for watching and commenting. A trunk light is one I left off the list but should have included !! An F4 is in my future when the current stock windshield needs replacing. External NAV, wow.. I would go that route if my car play and WAZ didn't work... for sure. Honda had better throw some good stuff like a better NAV and Adaptive Cruise on the upcoming 50th anniversary edition!! Thank you for the kind words Nick. Ride Safe.
I was an early adopter. Bought mine in 2018. I was worried that it being the first year of this model that there would be some issues. But so far, it’s been great. I’m about to do the ECM upgrade. As far as the belly pan, I really need to do that. On my 2007 I hit something in the road, I never saw it. It put a small hole in the crank case. Thankfully my insurance covered it. The belly pan that was on it just waded up. Anyway, great review.
Re-watching a batch of videos pertaining to your bike. Your's and CG. Just put a deposit on a new '23 Red! Hope to see it later this week. I have been in love with this generation since the beginning. I hope she loves me back! Ha Thanks for your critique of the bike and accessories. Look forward to dealing with Traxxion Dynamics also.
I completely agree Billy! It's a shame we have to add them since both are so critical. It should come from the factory protected. Thanks for watching and commenting !!
I now want to go get my motorcycle license and get a goldwing trike. Thank you for the information on the bike. Subscribed. To your channel and love it.
Kevin, so kind !! Make sure and share photos of the Trike when you get it... Thank you for the subscription... you'll find its an interesting mix of Photography and Motorcycles :)
Robert, Great review!!! To bad some of the others aren't as good. I have the gray 2021 bagger, I have added most of what you have done to yours. And then some, belly pan was one of the 1st things I did. I agree with you on the back rest, also. We all have different ideas and or needs for our machines that's a given. I added a giving 56 trunk to mine and that has almost the same volume as yours, and I can remove it in a second. There are a few more things to do before the bike will be complete but THAT is part of owning this great bike... thanks again for the GREAT REVIEW/UPDATE.... PREPPING for Daytona already.. Best wishes Turtle (Robert Cadiz) SW FL. PS 6 am and 62'
Wow! Nice thorough report Robert. Loved it. Spot on. Awesome! Your excitement and passion is very cool to witness. I totally agree with your findings and perspective of Honda’s premier sport touring motorcycle. I am also considering Traxxion’s tip-over protection kit. Your input could seal the deal for me. I did upgrade the windscreen to the well proven track record F4 20” in scratch resistant clear. With it’s unique recurve, directs wind up and over my head noticeably more effectively than the OEM windscreen. On the emergency brake. I found the E-brake doesn’t need a whole lot of tension to secure the bike sufficiently. I think the tendency is for people to over crank on the E-brake lever which prematurely stretches the cable much more quickly. But you do what makes you feel most comfortable as you walk away. I would also consider Traxxion’s over size kickstand pad for those parking scenarios on soft hot pavement or loose gravel. Well worth it. Crafted with Traxxion’s perusal high quality. Horn button: I regularly practice throughout my rides to locate the horn button to be able to actuate with “unconscious competence” quickly and smoothly by differentiating from the turn signal. As I move through intersections or through and past vehicle blind spots I’m on the ready as the horn also actuates my super bright Clearwater driving lights to a whopping 20k lumens. Driver floor boards for me are Gold Strike. Love them. As are a number of accessories. When you see my bike might help give you some food for thought. Well done here my brother. Thank you for taking the time to produce this. Best to you.
Hey Road Glide, not sure what happened to your first comment (and my response) to this video, but days later an almost identical comment from you showed up... So first and foremost thank you for ALWAYS supporting my channel, for watching and commenting !! The F4 windshield is definitely in my future, Cruiseman has one and I've seen it. Looks great. Great points on the E-brake as I am one of those over-crankers ... I'll monitor that going forward. I did not realize Traxxion had a kick stand pad, I'll go check that out. I need to see your driving lights.. I've caught a glimpse of them in other people's videos. Ride Safe my friend and I will see you soon.
@@robertwhitemoto You are right Robert. I added a missing detail. I failed to mention the name of my auxiliary driving lights, Clearwater. A small detail, but I thought folks might appreciate being able to research them. Not cheap, but so worth it IMHO. Fit & finish, customer service and entirely made in the USA.
Robert, thank you for your comprehensive review. I just purchased a 2023 model at a discount. I sold my 2020 GW Tour DCT. I suffered seller's remorse. Looking forward to picking up my red DCT this week.
Loved your review. One bone to pick. B4 I stick my foot in my mouth I have to say that I do not own the same bike as yours but I did have one years ago. Drop guards. My GL eventually gained on me and it went down like a sack of potatoes (at a stand still). As the bike fell to the ground numbers started running through my head I think I was at 2700 when the bike finally rested on its side. To my surprise the only bike parts touching the ground were the front and the rear OEM guards. My mouth dropped and it’s a moment I remember for the rest of my life. I think your model bike will do the same as mine. When the time comes.
Sally, I completely agree.. I think the stock bumpers (two on each side) would support the bike in a slow tipover... but there's a tipping point (no pun intended) where it will fall further than that, and that's when my new tipover protection guards might save the day :) Thanks for watching and commenting !!
Great review, Robert. One way to test how much air actually comes through the top dash vent is try it when it's cold, you will know how much it helps or doesn't! 😊 Ride on!!
Hey Kevin, thank you for watching and commenting. I have tried that vent in all kinds of temps. There is some air flow but not enough to make it worth the effort. They should remove that and add a home-link button in it's place :)
This is the first real good look at the next Gen. GW short of going to a dealer for me. I have an 05 and to be honest with all the gadgets which are nice, I do not like the paddle shifters, lack of a clutch handle and toe shifter. Seems to be getting more away from a motorcycle than it should be. However, I have been the guy who breaks from tradition and ends up kinda liking the new stuff. I'm a Ret. motor cop and just can't stand the lack of control of an automatic Transmission for the reason you stated, for low speed control. I can imagine being in a smooth downward right curved offramp and have that thing shift a gear unexpectedly while leaning over. Thanks for confirming that issue for me. Your review is so right on point and I don't think you missed a thing. Again, thank you and keep doing what you're doing. Subscribed.
BA thank you for watching and commenting. I wasn't sure about the DCT, but it does also come in a manual. I'll tell you I'm 100% comfortable with the DCT now and downshifting in a slow turn is second nature to me now. It did feel pretty weird for a short while without the manual clutch lever and toe shifter. I would definitely test drive both the DCT and the Manual version if you ever talk yourself into one.
Hi Robert, Happy new year to you and your family. Great review, my 2023 DCT tour is on the electric/hydraulic ramp at the moment as i am about to install the Vantrue F1 camera system. Looking to install the main unit of my Vantrue F1 in my trunk rather than under the seat. The creep function is great for me in getting my bike up onto the lift. Not fitted a belly pan yet but will be next job to do before our tour thru France and Switzerland later this year. This bike is a keeper for me. Thanks for the review and sharing with us over the pond. Ride safe.
So good to hear from you. Thank you for watching and commenting!! France and Switzerland, wow what a great trip... I am envious :) I've been to both but it was 1986. You must share some photos or video of that trip !! Yes that belly pan is a must. Just today I saw someone on a Goldwing facebook page posting a busted engine case from hitting debris. The photos just make you sad for this guy. I love the Vantrue F1, it works so well and great idea about moving that base unit into the trunk. If it gets too busy under my seat I might do the same. Ride Safe my friend.
Hi Robert, Another great video. This is the best and most comprehensive review of the Goldwing that I have seen. I installed the helibar risers this past weekend. I have not had a chance to do a long ride yet but it does feel better in town. I hope to add some of the other accessories that you have as future upgrades.
Hey Tom, thank you for watching and commenting. I really like those Helibar risers. I hope you already have a belly pan on the bike Tom that could get very expensive. I'll be heading out to Arlington soon to exchange something, maybe we can grab some coffee or something. Ride Safe !
Fantastic stuff Robert. I love the bike. I’ve the 2023 DCT iridium grey bagger. Done quite a few wee mods to it over the winter as the weather here in Ireland is terrible so it’s been tucked away.
On day, I will visit Ireland... it's on my list :) The grey bagger sounds fantastic and I can only image what the weather is like there. I'll be coming relatively close (ish) to you at the end of 2024 when I take a trip to Iceland. Ride Safe my friend !! (when you can ride again :)
@@robertwhitemoto That should be stunning, very picturesque! Hope you get some good footage. cant wait to see your photos. As for my goldwing, will be a few months yet, its quite salty on the roads here and I just had it ceramic coated by a local guy who is good. just fitted a protective bellypan and the big passenger handles at the sides. got a few more wee mods to keep me busy over the winter on it.
Great thorough honest review Robert. I love new technology, but on the other hand it scares the crap out of me, when there are so many things that can go wrong that I can't fix. Maybe being 65 makes me a little to "old school", but I like to be able to trouble shoot things and make my own repairs. Chris of CG was hinting about how just jump starting the bike could short out the radio system that isn't covered by the warrantee... I think if you spend that much money on the bike, it should be covered front to back for at least 5 years under the warrantee ... IMHO..
I agree completely. For this much money it's got a lot of weaknesses... and yet, I would spend the money again. I love the way this thing rides, the things it does right it does really right... and because I am old the comfort is top notch , especially when I can afford to change the seat (and spend another dozen franklins).
I had a GL 1800 Goldwing. I tried to fall in love with it for two years. It was perfect. I admit it was a perfect motorcycle. But the thought of having to work on it is why I got rid of it. my 1968 Bridgestone 350 GTR had that suede like top to the seat. They advertised it as as a slip proof seat cover.. I have a video on my channel explaining why I decided to sell my perfect. Goldwing and I went back to my third Yamaha royal star venture. In a nutshell, you can get at everything on a venture without removing plastic practically. Did you ever change the air cleaner on a Goldwing? If you have your dealer do it say once every 10,000 miles.. if you don’t do that air filter, change yourself, which takes six hours and that’s what the dealer charges you at $130 an hour just labor. By the time you have 100,000 miles on that machine, you will have spent way over $6000 in labor just having the air filter changed once every 10,000 miles… I say all through my TH-cam comparison of the venture to the goldwing i bought had ..the Goldwing is perfect, but it’s just so difficult to work on, and it’s so difficult to have the dealer work on it. that is a great idea that dipstick Upgrade you installed. I put one of those on my last moto guzzi- Norge. that design requires removal of the lower fairing just to Check the oil on the moto Guzzi Norge.. I think Honda tells you right in the owners manual not to put floorboards on a Goldwing. Here is the danger of putting floorboards on your Goldwing. if you have a transmission failure under warranty, Honda will void your warranty because you have gone against the instructions in the owners manual. I have seen this happen with Honda motorcycles when I was a motorcycle mechanic. A customer used a chrome aftermarket oil filter. On his Goldwing. Two friends of mine that are gold wing enthusiast, had twin, gold wings.. I think they were 2012s. These guys traveled to all of the Goldwing functions in the East Coast every year, they have a trailer all decked out with Goldwing branding. The trailer inside is a workshop and a Goldwing museum almost. Inside the trailer was nicer than inside many peoples garage I have seen… they both traded in their gold wings on the 2018 gold wings after three months because of complaints from their wives about having not enough room and the luggage being smaller, they both traded their 2018 gold wings in after just three months in on leftover 2017 gold wings.. they like the old bigger ones and so did their wives.. I did a lot of work on my goldwing i bought it used, I change the fork, springs, shock, spring, fork, seals, air cleaner, all fluids, tires, I did all the work, myself, and after doing that work with all that plastic, that’s when I decided I did not ever want to work on this motorcycle again, and I sold it. No matter how perfect it is .. I am now on my third Venture. I tried the BMW K 1200 LT. I’m not even gonna go into everything that was quirky about that bike. I put 138,000 miles on my 86 Venture which I kept for 16 years, and it’s sold on eBay for $400 more than I paid for it. but I went from the first Venture, to the BMW, to another, Venture, then I went to a Goldwing that was available near me just to try one. I never had a Goldwing before. And, like I said, working on, it was not fun, no matter how perfect they are, and I’m back on a venture. I’m not a gadget guy. I never listen to the radio on any of my motorcycles, I don’t even turn the intercom on. I like simple. Venture’s will do 300,000 Miles with basic maintenance just like a Goldwing. The Goldwing is not as roomy as a venture, and the Goldwing doesn’t have a soft a ride as the Venture with the air suspension. Now I agree air suspension is not the most modern or best handling, but it is the best ride. Miles with basic maintenance just like a Goldwing. The Goldwing is not as roomy as a venture, and the Goldwing doesn’t have a soft a ride as the Venture with the air suspension. Now I agree air suspension is not the most modern or best handling, but it is the best ride. I can get the saddle bag off either side of my Venture once the bag is empty of all the stuff I carry, while holding my breath one time. It’s just for screws… I can get at the starter, the stator, The slave cylinder, the water pump, and the clutch on my Venture, using the tool kit without removing any plastic to get out those components. That’s what I like about the Venture over my Goldwing.
Wow Jody, you get the prize for the longest comment on one of my videos bar none... changing the air filter every 10k is ridiculous and I won't be doing that. every 40k at least maybe longer. It is a bear to get to but I don't mind. Plus I've purchased Cruiseman's videos to help me do it all my self and save every penny of dealer labor costs. I love this bike. thanks for watching and commenting !!
Very thorough review. I had a ‘19 tour DCT for a couple of years and I’m considering doing it again. May have to call the guy from TN that Cruiseman interviewed on his channel recently.
Robert you and I bought our 2023 ‘Wings at about the same time. Only difference is I’m in Wisconsin and you’re in Texas. You need to put more miles on! I agree with most of what you said and I love my DCT Goldwing. I came from a K1600 GTL and I liked that bike a lot. In fact I had 4 of them but I needed a change and went to Honda. You missed something on your want list and that is removable saddle bags and trunk. I came to really appreciate those on my Beemers especially for airing up tires or cleaning the rear wheel. Removable bags are also great after a long day of riding and unloading at a motel. Especially in the rain! Did I mention a touch screen on the dash? Nice review Robert. Ride safe. Rick H.
Rick, wow, thank you for adding a few things to my Want list... I can certainly see how convenient that would be !! Love the touch screen idea! and boy I wish I could put more miles on this bike... life too frequently gets in the way :) Thanks for watching and commenting Rick and ride safe my friend.
I currently own K1600 GTL and I will be getting Goldwing next year. Beemer is great bike, fast, easy to ride but when loaded bike feels top heavy, very sensitive for crosswinds and price of the parts is horrendous. They also loose in value very quickly. K bike was so far good in terms of reliability no major problems but Goldwing was always know to be super reliable.
Rich Buddy, hope you and the misses are doing well. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate your channel and the great information you bring. Ride Safe Sir !!
I have to say, the belly pan complaint is a little overblown. If you hit something big enough and hard enough to tear open your pan, you probably already hit it with your front tire. Pretty sure the tire is blown/shredded at that point. Whether or not you lose your oil at that point is probably not on your mind, but rather if your gear will hold up as you hit the pavement (or "Why wasn't I wearing my gear?"). At that point, your engine isn't under load and will be OK with low oil for a moment. Now, if you pick yourself up afterward and the engine is still running, you probably have a problem..... but by now, your precious bike is already totaled, so it doesn't really matter. Many of your other points at the end seem pretty legit, while a few shouldn't be provided as someone might have a personal preference that differs from yours (hence, "Making it your own."). Thx for the detailed review/slash explanation. I'm probably going to get me a tour DCT (used, let someone else cover the worst of the depreciation) and get the trunk removal kit (bagger, but with the extra goodies the tour gives you).
I hear your point Mike but I’ve seen more than one example of a front tire just fine but that vulnerable element at the bottom of the engine being sheered off. And I rolled off a curb that hit the bottom pretty hard. I was thankful I had it. Keep researching, if you still or unconvinced by the time you get yours then I absolutely support you doing what you want with your bike for sure. Thanks for the kind words, and for watching.
Happy New Year Robert! Loved the video and must say one of the best and it covers so much. Didn’t even feel like an hour. Couple of questions. I’m not a big guy either and wondered if the bike feels a bit intimidating at stops and at slow speeds for you. I’m only 5’6” with about a 28” inseam. I can’t flat foot the GW mainly due to the wide seat but think I could probably handle due to the fact it’s so well balanced. I have no issue getting it up off the stand. I have never owned such a big bike or actually ridden one but still plan on purchasing. Can you flat foot it? Any issues at stops, etc? Also, could you do a quick demonstration video of getting yours on the center stand? I’ve watched Max’s and others but would like to see your demo on this. Thanks so much for your reply if possible and keep up the great content! Greg
Greg! Happy New Year to you as well. Great questions here Greg and I too struggled with this decision before I purchased. I could easily flat foot my Honda VTX1800 but when I learned the seat hight and width on the Goldwing I was concerned. To be specific to your question, in normal shoes I cannot flat foot the bike. I am 5'9" with what I think is about a 31" inseam. I have found that good riding boots with a large heal helps that tremendously. ALL of that however, I'm comfortable on the bike and putting one foot down seems to control the bike very well at stops. If the wind is kicking up, I'll tip-toe both feet and that works ok as well. Definitely test drive before you buy, but also know you will get more comfortable with the bike as you ride it, so the test drive should not give full weight to your decision. Greg great suggestion on getting the bike up on its center stand. I absolutely will do that video. Greg where are you from ? Thank you for watching and commenting.
Robert, thanks for the reply and info! I definitely will plan on a test drive first. I currently own a Kawasaki Z650 and can’t flat foot it either, even with my riding boots with heels! lol😂. However it’s nearly 300 pounds less! I really don’t think it’ll be an issue but it’s just so big and intimidating looking. Previously owned a Yamaha V Star cruiser and had no issues with it but as you know cruisers sit much lower. I’ve truly wanted a GW tho for about 20 years and when the 6 Gens came out I really started to think it might be possible. I’m getting up there in age, 59, and now looking for more touring and comfort in my riding and the DCT Tour sold me! BTW, I’m from Kansas City. Thanks again for your videos and response. You should really be proud of your channel. One of the best out there. Looking forward to your center stand video! Greg
Great and thorough review. A couple of questions: Is your phone charger wired to a fuse? Where did you get the Gold Wing replica? I haven't located one that doesn't have the the black paint with the ardent red. About the heated passenger seat, my wife says the backrest is also heated!
Thank you for watching and commenting!! And for the info on the passenger back rest. The toy Goldwing I found on EBAY. Yes the phone charger has an inline fuse. I used the quad lock Waterproof 12V To USB Smart Adaptor under the seat.
Thank you for sharing that video with us I was planning to buy one and you illustrated all the parts to the bike. Where did you buy that belly protector for the bike?
Louis, thank you for watching and commenting. The Belly Pan was picked up at traxxion dynamics dot com.... I'll add a link to it on this video in the description.
Great, thorough review! Question… I have a 23 GW DCT and I am considering doing the Carlink wireless CarPlay together with the quad lock wireless charger mount. While it’s been widely discussed that leaving your phone in the cubby for extended periods of time, especially on hot days, can potentially overheat your phone, what has been your experience with the Carlink wireless adapter being in there and running. Does it get hot? Are you concerned about that unit potentially overheating?
Scotty great question and I want to give an accurate answer and that is.. I've never touched the Carlin Kit device inside the box, and I don't know that I've had it long enough to be in the very heat of the summer. I will say that once you configure the Carlin Kit device to start up 30-60 seconds after receiving power (bike turns on) it connects reliably with my phone each time. Cruiseman has a video out on how to change those settings. We will learn together this summer if the Texas heat has any impact on the device and its operations. For now I am very happy.
Just a thought. I take the garage opener off my truck visor and put it in the gas cap opener cubby when I ride. Saves money on the homelink and is locked in the cooler cubby when off the bike. When I'm done with the GW I pop it back onto the truck visor. You might be able to get a duplicate opener for less than the homelink with install time.
Robert my friend that was a fantastic review and walk-around video. You sure passed along some great information and I agree with your overview. I would also add a trunk light to your list. The Goldwing is still the flagship bike and I would also buy another one, no question about that. Thanks again and all the best in 24.
Larry funny you mention a trunk light. I agree. so much so that I've added a velcro'd mini light (rechargeable) to the underside of the trunk lid :) great point and definitely should be on the list. Ride Safe !
Love my 2020 goldwing , hey I see u block your license plate after we all seen it prior blocking. All kidding aside, great review I hope Honda listens. 👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Ted, thanks for watching and commenting. I agree with you about loving the bike 👍🏻. As for the license plate I abandoned the attempts to block it because it’s too difficult and it’s public information… people behind me see it all the time 😁
Very informative and interesting review. I’m seriously considering purchasing one of these wonderful machines in the very near future. The wife has already agreed to this after she experienced a test sit on the rear seat. Happy wife = happy life. I thought that the list of negatives was interesting. The home link button doesn’t really concern me, kinda bit of a first world issue. The navigation system, absolutely agree with you 100%. Hell, Honda themselves install better systems in their own cars, they have the ability. Blind spot monitoring, really? Y’know that neck thing that the head sits on, it allows the head to turn so that the eyes can see. I’m 60 and been riding since I was a very young kid. Currently drive a heavy truck and dislike drivers relying on technology rather than using their own eyes and judgment.
Swamp, yeah the blind spot monitor is a stretch and the easiest thing for me to say well ok don’t really need. My cheap little mirrors do the job reallly well. If you’ve watch my channel for any length of time you know I have neck disc issues that make it difficult to ride for long periods of time (I just can’t give it up) … that was the genesis of the request. Be safe, and thank you for watching! Keep us updated on that pending purchase.
Robert thanks for watching and commenting. I'll tell you I have not had to replace the battery in my key fob now here going on 1 year. Colder climates will need replacing more frequently. You certainly can replace the battery yourself and I think Cruiseman might have a video out on how to do that... go check out his channel! Ride Safe !
I always turn my fob off when im not using it, saves a lot of the life if you arent riding all day. also a good idea if you go into a shop in case you are still within range. I had one last 2 years on my 2021, I keep a spare duracell 2032 battery in my pannier all the time in the packet just in case im away and need a change.
2 suggestions: stop marking your seat by using pegs to mount the bike so you can step over the seat better; works for me. Flip the seat rest toward the rear of the bike when you don't want to use it, unless you have a pillion rider. PS: Caliente also has good videos.
I hear you obwan! I was against it too for a long while, and against cruise control in general. I've come to appreciate the cruise control and I'm about halfway there on the adaptive cruise.
Ways is great for a single destination… it does not do “way points”. So in that regard a Zumba might be better. I don’t travel long distances (yet) and I don’t really have room for another mount. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Hey RObert Can I ask you a question. ive been shooting with the 80 D canon. Resently I bought the canon R6 Mark2 My question is I have to have my Iso higher on my mark2 then my 80D. could it be that I have the adapter on the mark2 so I can use my dlsr Lenses. do you think that might be the cause.?
Yes absolutely… a lens adapter add space even if small, and it absorbs light so a higher ISO might be necessary. Also the R6 is designed to work with the aperture blade configuration present in RF lenses… using an EF lens will be different, possibly even the number of aperture blades. I wouldn’t worry about … these newer cameras R5 & R6 can produce much cleaner images with higher ISOs. Good Shooting !!
I agree with you on the utopia backrest being tough on bumpy roads. Up here in the Northeast there is nothing but bumpy roads so I adjusted the backrest further back and I sit up straight when there are bumps (like at train tracks) so my back doesn't get the bumps transmitted to the spine. On smooth roads I sit back against it and it works fine. I have to admit my old Indian backrest was much better because it wasn't a wrap around design like the utopia.
Not much of a tech nerd and I find much of it very intimidating. I rarely even turn on the radio. Just don't need it. But for 30 Gs it should have every bell and whistle imaginable. The DCT and that trimmer profile sold me. My 2012 is great but it's time to move on.
$30K bike with no active cruise or blind spot is not acceptable. BMW K 1600, another $30K bike, is the same way and that's a shame! BMW's excuse was even worst than any other excuse I've ever heard. They could not find a place to put the sensors on the design. They sure find a spot on the new GS and the RT. Sometimes you wonder how those incompetent people who are in charge get to keep their jobs.
BMW has same engine design for long time ,windshield go up and down same long time. Crazy that goldwing doesn't have belly plate protect engine, better protection that bike can't lay over....
Nothing about a ride, how it behaves on the road? Your video was more of a walk-through, the functions, features, and aftermarket gizmos rather than a riders review. 3.4k miles on it, even though I do more in a month, should still give it a faint idea how it works and behaves on the road. Disappointed. The least.
@robertwhitemoto not criticising your content per se. You kept me watching till the end. You are good at watching your doing, I just subscribed to your channel. If I may suggest humbly a next video. The 1 year review of GW from a rider perspective. How those features help you or hi der your ride. What you were expecting before you bought it against your 1 year experience with the bike. Pros and cons, etc. I am looking forward to watching you making the comparison. You outlined the features perfectly. Now, how they apply to your everyday ride. Sort of "One year review from the road point of view". Best regards, Rob.
Absolutely THE BEST review of this amazing bike! Thank you!
My pleasure! Thank you for watching and commenting 🙏🏻
Great in-depth walk around !
Thank you for watching and commenting !!
Yours was the best review I’ve watched.
Martin, Thank you !!
Very thorough review. One of the best I’ve seen. Thank you.
Matt, thank you!! 🙏🏻
@@DonaldT-s5f well said and I completely agree! Thank you for watching and commenting!
@robertwhitemoto your welcome
I agree regarding the time required to install home link. Fred Harmon’s video was very helpful in that regard.
Testifying to the belly pan requirement. Add one folks. I was lucky and only needed to patch it. I thought I would need to replace the casing once I ran over an iron barb in the road.
Very nice tutorial indeed... Bravo👍
I have a 2020 DCT Tour and it is an absolutely phenomenal machine and it brings a smile to my face every time I swing a leg over it 😁
Thank you Sir, I completely agree with the smiles!!
I currently have a VTX1800 and have been eyeing more and more of the new style Goldwings for sale in my area. Love the VTX and when I do decide to upgrade I will definitely be going to the GW
@@Sinatra192 I dearly loved my VTX1800… so much so, I kept it for almost 20 years. I love the Goldwing more 👍🏻
Thank you for a fantastic and thorough review of the Honda Goldwing. It's one of the best that I've seen.
Lars my pleasure. I love this bike 👍🏻
Fabulous review Robert! So appreciate your thoughtful and authentic review. I imagine these videos can have their challenges...appreciate your nice and very informative work.
Eric, thank you for the kind words and for watching! It’s fun to put together, but I’m not very professional at it 🙂
Most in depth, detailed GW review I have ever watched. Nice job. Very helpful!! Thank u for the time you put into this video.
Kathy thank you for the kind words, it was my pleasure. 🙏🏻
Wow! Good job Robert. You hit all the upgrades that I hope Honda considers in the their new models.
William thank you for the kind words and for watching and supporting the channel !!

Ha
Thanks for your critique of the bike and accessories. Look forward to dealing with Traxxion Dynamics also.
Tom, congrats! I absolutely love my 23 red!
If you can buy a Goldwing, you can buy the Traxxion Dynamics slide plate and tip over protection. Both are a must.
I completely agree Billy! It's a shame we have to add them since both are so critical. It should come from the factory protected. Thanks for watching and commenting !!
Do your aftermarket wind deflectors require drilling for mounting? If not, where did you get them?
they do not Martin. You can find them on Amazon. Search for Panical Wind Deflectors.
Best wishes

Robert, that removable trunk sounds fantastic! Have a blast in Daytona !!

You are right Robert. I added a missing detail. I failed to mention the name of my auxiliary driving lights, Clearwater. A small detail, but I thought folks might appreciate being able to research them. Not cheap, but so worth it IMHO. Fit & finish, customer service and entirely made in the USA.
Very interesting review, thank you, Robert! All the best for 2024!
You too Herman !! Happy New Year!
Robert, thank you for your comprehensive review. I just purchased a 2023 model at a discount. I sold my 2020 GW Tour DCT. I suffered seller's remorse. Looking forward to picking up my red DCT this week.

@@bobdumbell thank you!🙏🏻 you are going to love it!
Oh, the conversation with myself is comedic, Thanks again.@@robertwhitemoto
you can add a toe shifter, this is an OEM accessory, i have it and use it a lot to downshift, of to go from N to D.
Thanks, I just learned something.@@Laurent-wp7cq
Very good review and I agree with your suggestions on what aftermarket items should come stock, especially the belly pan.
Thank you sir! Ride Safe.
Ride Safe !
of course Harleys get all the love for their sound but I too LOVE the sound of my Goldwing
Oh and by the way... I have accent envy? Irish accents are so cool and me... well I sound like I was born in a barn :)
By the time you have 100,000 miles on that machine, you will have spent way over $6000 in labor just having the air filter changed once every 10,000 miles…
I say all through my TH-cam comparison of the venture to the goldwing i bought had ..the Goldwing is perfect, but it’s just so difficult to work on, and it’s so difficult to have the dealer work on it.
that is a great idea that dipstick Upgrade you installed.
Inside the trailer was nicer than inside many peoples garage I have seen…
they both traded in their gold wings on the 2018 gold wings
after three months because of complaints from their wives about having not enough room and the luggage being smaller, they both traded their 2018 gold wings in after just three months in on leftover 2017 gold wings.. they like the old bigger ones and so did their wives..
Southern power sports ! Great idea. Thank you for the kind words and for watching !
I like the suspension much better since I let Max at traction Dynamics install his custom shocks on my bike
Mark I've been very curious about that upgrade. Can you be more specific about how it improved things ?
Hey Robert, great comprehensive review on the Honda Goldwing.
Rich Buddy, hope you and the misses are doing well. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate your channel and the great information you bring. Ride Safe Sir !!
@@robertwhitemotoYou and family have a happy and prosperous New Year. Keep bringing the videos

Good review. VERY detailed and specific.
And too long 😁. Thank you 🙏🏻
Happy New Year Robert!
Greg
Thanks for such a thorough review. I had my eye on the 2014 goldwing to avoid some of those upgrades, but now I'm torn! Lol
You can’t go wrong with either… ride safe 👍🏻
Great and thorough review. A couple of questions: Is your phone charger wired to a fuse? Where did you get the Gold Wing replica? I haven't located one that doesn't have the the black paint with the ardent red.
About the heated passenger seat, my wife says the backrest is also heated!
Thank you for watching and commenting!! And for the info on the passenger back rest. The toy Goldwing I found on EBAY. Yes the phone charger has an inline fuse. I used the quad lock Waterproof 12V To USB Smart Adaptor under the seat.
Great review !!
Thank you Frank !!
Ride Safe !
The omni cruise hiway pegs stop the bike from tipping far enough to damage the mirrors...
Keep us updated on that pending purchase.
thanks a lot this is a great video. Reading the electronic key do you know how long the battery should last and if we can replace it our self?
I replace mine every year, just to be safe. I know they will last longer than that, but I do it when I replace all of my smoke detector batteries! 😃
Excellent review! A wealth of important information
Thank you !
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I own a 2023 as well and I learned something new from you
Thank you for watching and commenting! It supports the channel. And I must say, you have an awesome bike !!
Great review, thanks for sharing.
Thank you 🙏🏻
2 suggestions: stop marking your seat by using pegs to mount the bike so you can step over the seat better; works for me. Flip the seat rest toward the rear of the bike when you don't want to use it, unless you have a pillion rider. PS: Caliente also has good videos.
Oh those are great suggestions, thank you Don!! Still disappointed in Honda for the type of material. And thank you for watching and commenting!!
NO! I hate adaptive cruise control. I in fact turn it off in my car, ..I like it the way it is.....
I hear you obwan! I was against it too for a long while, and against cruise control in general. I've come to appreciate the cruise control and I'm about halfway there on the adaptive cruise.
I agree that adaptive cruise control will probably cause more problems than it solves on a motorcycle.
How is Waze working for you? Can you also import gpx files? Trying to decide if I need a zumo. Have you thought about a zumo install?
Ways is great for a single destination… it does not do “way points”. So in that regard a Zumba might be better. I don’t travel long distances (yet) and I don’t really have room for another mount. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Great review, very thorough 👍🏻
Thank you RTC!
hello Robert where did you get the wind deflectors at? what brand?
Brady they were gifted to me but the brand is Panical… might be hard to find now… Chinese company I believe…
excellent review
Gd thank you 🙏🏻
Hi, where is the Airbag on your bike?
I have the Non-Airbag model.
@@robertwhitemotoThanks
Thankyou Robert. that makes me feel alot better.
Great Review. Thanks. But.... Go Steelers Go!
John... Ha, Steelers, you noticed my jacket. What a fantastic rivalry over the years. John thank you for the kind words and for watching. Ride Safe !!
Unrelated but is this the back of your house? Like an alleyway or something. Where is the road, I'm confused 😅
Thank you for watching and commenting! I’m going to try flipping the backrest over into the passenger seat until I need it.
Not much of a tech nerd and I find much of it very intimidating. I rarely even turn on the radio. Just don't need it. But for 30 Gs it should have every bell and whistle imaginable. The DCT and that trimmer profile sold me. My 2012 is great but it's time to move on.
Tom thanks for watching ! I agree, and I love this bike.
It sounds like a Porsche because it's a boxer motor.
Hi Robert. Can you send me a picture of your seat. Trying to claim against honda
Ok no worries ?
$30K bike with no active cruise or blind spot is not acceptable. BMW K 1600, another $30K bike, is the same way and that's a shame! BMW's excuse was even worst than any other excuse I've ever heard. They could not find a place to put the sensors on the design. They sure find a spot on the new GS and the RT. Sometimes you wonder how those incompetent people who are in charge get to keep their jobs.
@@Boxer1250RT 100%
BMW has same engine design for long time ,windshield go up and down same long time. Crazy that goldwing doesn't have belly plate protect engine, better protection that bike can't lay over....
It is a 55 minute video
Nothing about a ride, how it behaves on the road? Your video was more of a walk-through, the functions, features, and aftermarket gizmos rather than a riders review. 3.4k miles on it, even though I do more in a month, should still give it a faint idea how it works and behaves on the road. Disappointed. The least.
@@kontemplatemusic2189 valid opinion. Thanks for watching.
Best regards, Rob.
you turned it into a 55 minute video,,,,,45 minutes TOO LONG...... Thumbs down.
Totally aware... thanks for watching.
