I own one. I have also owned two Harley Davidsons, two BMWs, one Victory, and one earlier version of the Goldwing. This Goldwing is by far the best long-distance touring bike I have owned. Quiet, powerful, smooth, and fast. The DCT automatic transmission is outstanding. 12/10 would recommend.
@@gregoriopassport Agree. I don’t think I’ll ever own another shifter bike. I went to an Indian demo and rode their top of the line touring bike - it’s nice! - but kept wondering why I had to shift up and down all the time. A buddy had a similar experience when he traded an older Porsche on a newer Porsche that has the PDK automatic transmission.
Perfectly said! And if I paid for a Gnarly Davidson, my heart would stop with the prices they charge. My Gold Wing is the ultimate touring machine, and it is also excellent in the twisties!
I’ve been on 4 different Harley Ultras since 1990 and over 250,000 miles. My present bike is a 2012 FLHTK Stage II with 36k miles. I rode a 2021 DCT Tour at Americade in 2021. I can’t get it out of my mind. At 73 with almost 500,000 miles under my belt, if I am fortunate enough, and healthy enough, the Goldwing will probably be my next, and possibly my last motorcycle.
I’m on my 4th Wing. A used 94; a 2007/2019/2022 out of the crate. The last 2 being DCT.. Excellent bikes. 2007 was the most comfortable for me, I’m 6’4. This year at Americade I test rode an Indian Challenger Elite. I’m pretty sure somewhere in the next 2 years I’ll add it to my garage. I’ll never get rid of my WING..
@@RyanJohnson-ft6qi It's a Rebel 500 with 72k miles, so you know I'm suffering. Maybe I can be your passenger this winter, I'll even rub the shoulders.😂
Harley beats them on the baggage storage. Tour pack needs to open to the side with a rider on the back. Infotainment system still needs to catch up. But overall great bike.
I own the previous generation GL1800. It's so smooth my wife sometimes takes a nap on long trips (with the trunk behind her, me in front of her, and the arm rests, she can't fall off). Most people say the Goldwing is a touring motorcycle, and it is fantastic for that. But it is more of a sport touring bike. Have you seen the video of the rider on a Goldwing on a closed-circuit track with sport race bikes and he's right in the middle with them? And he was riding the second gen 1800. The newest version this guy is riding is even better. With an experienced rider, it will leave sport bikes in the dust. I too have ridden them all and the Goldwing is by far the best all-around bike out there. It's great for long hauls, it's great for commuting, it's great for short trips in town, and it's really great in the mountain twisties. Oh, as far as buying a Harley... I would wait a year or two to see if they pull out of their latest fiasco. Enjoy the Goldwing as long as you have it on loan and get your dad to ride it!
I ride with a group of many types of bikes, a friend has a Goldwing. I,m always impressed at the ease the Goldwing keeps up with the sports bikes, a fantastic motorcycle. I think it’s one of the best made bike in existence!
I have one, have ridden 70,000km, been across the country multiple times, mostly 2-up. You can really push it in the curves, the suspension, especially the front, is phenomenal. I test rode every competitor but, being a previous Valkyrie owner, couldn’t give up the smooth and linear flat 6. Haven’t had a single problem. Being its a GW, I know it’s barely broken in. And CarPlay would be hard to be without, now that I’ve had it.
The first thing I noticed is the tranquil environment that the bike was reviewed in. So quiet and beautiful. As for the bike itself, it’s an engineering marvel.
There was the old stereotypical demographic you referred to, but that was left long ago on prior generation of Gold Wings. This newest generation is very cool. It’s been downsized, lightened and underwent a major restyling program. This bike has great handling abilities in the twisties and mountains. In terms of sheer power and handling the DCT will walk all over most large touring motorcycles from all brands. This bike is like a Formula One. You just can’t out-shift a DCT. Live with a DCT long enough and you will be a convert. In traffic and around town. The DCT is immediate off the line. A great bike.
I have ridden almost every bike in 35 years on 2 wheels. Either owning them, or open house test rides. The 6 gen Wing is by far the best machine for long tour on the planet. No bike comes even close to it, yet. Perfect? NOPE! But for me, she stays in my garage for many years to come.
The Goldwing is an iconic motorcycle and the claim of “most comfortable” may be true, but only if your idea of touring is on tarmac. Where I reside, 50% of the named roads are unpaved and the USA as a whole still has about 35% of named roads that aren’t paved. Thing is, many of the unpaved roads are the most spectacular; they’re also less traveled often much calmer to ride. That’s why, while I admire the Goldwing, for touring I prefer the Africa Twin - it gets me to places the tarmac doesn’t go and, for many, it’s getting to those places that define touring.
The thing I love the most about this bike is exactly the analoge gauges, the fact not everything is a screen. I hate this trend that everything has to be a screen...............I worked at a Honda dealership for years, that made me a massive Honda fan after seeing how poorly Yamahas and Suzuki bikes were made in comparison(we were a Suzuki and Honda dealership in Europe). There is a reason why the Gold Wing has become a standard folks. Buy one and you'll find out why......So in my experience, You'll buy a Honda for having a working bike for the rest of your life, a Suzuki for 10 years or a Yamaha for 3 years... The headstuds on a Yamaha is 4-6mm on a Honda 9-12mm in the same bike class. Think about that.........
The light-weight manufactured items are meant to be rebuilt or replaced in a relatively short time. The Goldwing was not built in that line of thinking. There are at least three makers of riding foot-pegs where you can sit/ride as you wish. Good Rides
I own an 18 and have had a 2005, both amazing bikes. I also own Harleys, and if I could only have ONE bike, it would be the Goldwing. The newer bikes' Luggage is tight (they made the top trunk bigger in 2021), but it's by far the nicest bike I've ever owned and drama-free. Handles like a sport bike with bags.
On my 3rd Goldwing a 2023 DCT! I've owned 2 FJR 1300's they are OK but do not compare to a Wing. Harley's have the engine heat issue which is a deal breaker for me (I live in Texas). This is the only bike I can ride 10-12 hours in a day with no discomfort! It does everything well! Is it perfect no! But no bike is! After owning this DCT I will never return to a manual shift, it's that good!
I owned a manual Goldwing for about 50k miles. I now own an Africa Twin DCT. I would have the DCT on the Wing if I buy another. Two things I would like to hear from reviews, is the DCT from a sport perspective is better than manual. Shifts quicker, smoother and is always in the correct gear. The other neglected point is the A-arm front suspension. Because the wheel travel is almost vertical, the tire stays planted. This bike has more sport performance than many other bikes. Countersteer this bike with purpose is just amazing. What an all around bike. Mid 40’s fuel economy on regular and yes the comfort, I would choose over a H-D without a second thought.
I am enjoying this bike. It makes me want to hot rod, but I am 67 years old and know better. I like urban mode in town. There are some differences that need to be learned. I have over 30k miles in last 16 months.
I always looked at Goldwings as huge heave bikes. I sat on one of the new ones recently and was blown away how it light it felt under my feet despite its size. Still a big bike but it didn't feel unmanageable in anyway. I was impressed on how it felt. Just a note I'm only used to middleweight bikes and smaller.
I've had an 82 Wing and a 2001 Valkyrie which I loved and regret selling only to buy an Electra Ultra Glide (Harley) which is also very comfortable and shows well. My Valkyrie had more torque than an Harley I've riden. I only wish Honda would not enclose the engine and cover the bike over in plastic. The have sloped the trunk as Harley has done. The GW Valkyrie is a sharp bike as well.
I haven't ridden the GL-1800 in this generation, so I can't say anything first hand. I'd like to try one, but none of the dealers in my area (upstate NY) allow you to try one out before buying it. I'm like your father - prefer to shift myself. This bike is very heavy, which is part of the reason I bought a BMW R1250RT. The RT is over 200 pounds lighter and handles great! No reverse, but for me it was the best bike available (and the RT was several thousand dollars less than the Wing).
I used to have a Valkyrie Interstate, the mean brother of the Goldwing. They don't make them any more but boy that 6-cylinder horizontally opposed engines just purr at speed. I bet these latest Wings are a pleasure to ride. I switched over to a Spyder but throwing lots of respect out to the Goldwingers. Have fun and ride safe!
My Daily ride is a 2008 Kawasaki Concours 14. At 690 lbs, it's as heavy a bike as I'm interested in riding. I'm 62. The 850lbs of the goldwing is what has kept me from every buying one. Because I use a Bluetooth helmet, I have no need for a bike mounted stereo. Ive never ridden a Wing, but ive been riding since 1976. The Concours is the most comfortable bike ive ever had. Its my 3rd Connie. I had 2 1000s, and this one.
I have a ‘21 Tour DCT, bought new that year. Great bike for long distance touring. Also a good commuter bike. You wouldn’t think so, for such a heavy bike, but the weight goes away as soon as you start to roll. The DCT works well in most situations, but falls short at slower speeds, sometimes changing gears when you’re not expecting it. Like part way through a turn at an intersection. I’ve just recently added an aftermarket seat. I put up with a sore butt long enough. After about 40 minutes on the stock saddle, I would start to squirm and then I’d have to stand on the pegs often on long rides to ease the discomfort. This bike loves mountain passes. Last year, my wife and I did a 7500 mile ride, towing a trailer and the bike handled whatever we threw at it with ease. Great bike with a couple of shortcomings. Overall, I love this bike, although I think there are more comfortable rides out there.
Try to select manual gear on the right handlebar control button (M) ...like this, you fully manage gear change instead DCT ,regardless mapping selection (tour, sport etc..)... it revs from low to limit if you wish, and leaves you gearbox control at 100%.... so you can enjoy keeping the gear is best at low speed or into corners✌
@@wayneprowse8109; I got the Ultimate Seat. Better than stock, but not sure if it’s enough better to justify the hefty price tag. I think I could have done better for less money, but I had heard great things about it. I just finished a 3500 mile ride and will be doing about the same home in about a week. I think my butt tolerated the new seat much better than stock.
I just bought one! A 2007 with 29,000 miles on it in excellent condition, not a scratch on it. I have two Harleys, one is a Electra Glide. I started riding Harleys in 1979. Yes the Goldwing is a big bike BUT it does not feel like a big bike. Not at all! Actually it feels like a .... 600cc size bike! I'm amazed how nimble the Goldwing is. The weight is so low on the Goldwing it does not at all feel like a big bike. Now my Electra Glide, a whole different World. Yes the Electra Glide feels heavy, VERY HEAVY. I'm really enjoying the Goldwing. When I'm ridding the Goldwing I'm not thinking, "what's going to break?" I'm more relaxed on the Honda. Which would I rather have???? The Electra Glide is a 2005 , the Honda a 2007. Both are in excellent condition with low miles. If I could have a new Honda Goldwing vs a new Harley Davidson.... I would rather have the Goldwing. There, I said it.
I have the '07 Wing also with 15k miles, my one complaint is the loud clunky gear shifting especially going from 1st to 2nd. I wish the gearbox were quieter and knew an oil that might quiet it down..
@@JamesFrost74659 I've been starting off in 2nd lately because 1st is so low anyway but the worst clunk is from 1st to 2nd and the hotter the bike gets the louder they get. I might go with a 10w/50 next oil change
That's the weight I have in mine. Once the engine is warm and I've been through the gears, all is well. Maybe it's just the way the bikes are? We need more opinions on this.
@@JamesFrost74659 When I start off cold in the morning they're like 30 to 40% quieter and the hotter the bite gets its clunk city .. I'll run a 10/50w soon I think the thicker oil might tend to keep them quieter .. I actually thought it was just mine like mine was broken or something truly I hate Shifting the bike and I shouldn't feel that way.. The Gen 6 Goldwing "18+ I hear the redesigned gears are a lot quieter I might entertain that soon.
Nice to see you back home with your dad. Nice to get his insight on the big bike. Don't recall seeing TFLbike ever doing a review on this one. I always thought they were huge. This one looks a lot more compliant. It is interesting, even if it is not my style.
My opinion, there is only one motorbike ever made. Honda. I had the gandson of the Gold Wing, before the Gold Wing was born. CB 250 in 1972. Got my licence on my 17th birthday. Rode it for around 15 months, and then bough 4 wheels. A Gold Wing was going to be my retirement presant. Bad health, and financial problems put paid to that idea Thank you for alowing me to enjoy this ride with yourself and your dad. Stay safe and keep on riding into the sunset.
I must admit, this bike does everything I want it to do. It’s very versatile. Im a little below the demographic age wise that they were going for but I ride this puppy long and far. I just finished a 4 month 26000+ mile round trip from Texas to Alaska and everywhere in between. Good review on the bike.
While on a 2 week trip, I took my DCT Tour canyon carving through the Angeles National Forest. I paced with 2 guys on sport bikes, and I stayed right with them (full disclosure: my bike has a BT Moto tuner, which makes this kind of riding extra special :)). After about an hour of this, we pulled over at a scenic turnout and I got high fives from these guys, and they were blown away by aN old guy on a loaded down GW. Guess you don’t see that every day. I am by no means saying the GW is as capable as a sport bike, but I could keep up with those guys on that day. It would have been unthinkable to try that on my old ‘14 Ultra Classic. One other thing, I was aching all over for the rest of the day. At 70, I’m in good shape, but I think my days of scraping pegs in hairpins are coming to an end 😛
I have Bajaj Discovery 125cc bike, and had tvs metro 100cc bike for 7 years, and when riding for 100+/200+ KM for day, and the back pain and all, always wished to ride a bike like this one day. maybe next life definitly willl do :D
Been there done that. I had a 2018 Majestic Silver GW DCT bagger. Yup, great for touring but it was very heavy / bulky and I thought Honda could have done a much better job with it. Lots of stuff should have been standard that wasn’t. My bagger should have come with a center stand but I had to add that myself. Should have come with Homelink, and a digital readout of the tire pressures instead of that incessantly blinking “I’m unhappy about the tire pressure” light (touring models had it, baggers did not). I wish the saddlebags were easy to remove like on an R1250RT, oil and air filter changes couldn’t be harder if you tried…. Every once in a while the DCT transmission would make a big clunking noise while driving. Wished for a TFT display and a simpler more intuitive infotainment system. I think the bike is already antiquated in some respects. I got rid of mine for a simpler retro bike that’s very easy to maintain (Kawasaki Z900RS).
All bikes are great. To each his own. You have to find what fits your personality and your soul is happy with it. I've had all kinds of bikes, never a Harley. Three years ago, I bought one, a used Electra that was an amazing deal. I thought I should just try it. Never fallen in love with the bike so hard. I still have Italian bikes in my garage. Faster, amazing in corners, technologically advanced, you name it. None of them make me so happy like the Harley does. My friends laugh at me. Motorcycles are like girlfriends or wives. I wouldn't want yours but you are perfectly happy with her. Happy for you.
I own a 2018 Goldwing DCT tour , I agree with the newer Harley, Indian, BMW screen is better but when it came out back in 2018 it was far ahead of the others, the Goldwing's tech is going on 6 plus years old , it will be interesting to see what the next generation Goldwing will have.
I just bought a clean 2018 with under 4k miles for 16k (like new). I have been riding over 50 years. I’ve owned Harleys and mainly rode Victorys the last 8 years: I just went on a long ride yesterday and the DCT was a dream. I do need to upgrade the stereo though, can’t hear that well on noisy freeways.
I have to say I love Honda bikes but that FJR1300 is an aspirational scooter. I’ve had a GL1000 and. Gl1800. I’ve also had a CB5004f and an 2003ST1300 and a 2009 ST1300. I now own a GL1800 2015 45th anniversary edition. All of these bikes have extraordinary lean angles. They will carry you more miles than you can handle.
Lots of talk about the DCT, but the 6- speed transmission with its slipper clutch is also a very nice transmission...the best manual transmission the Gold Wing has ever had...also its mentioned in this video that the center stack doesnt work while the bike is in motion..well, thats not true..the center twist knob on the console controls the auto volume while the bike is in motion...then controls the navi map zoom when the bike is stopped..also in the center stack you have the info button that shows..trip A, trip B, fuel mileage, elapse time etc..
Wing is nice, but it has a strong competitor in the BMW K1600 as well. Pretty much all the stuff with the latest wing was available back in 2018 on the BMWs.
I still have a Hayabusa in the garage but I absolutely love the DCT, I do not miss shifting in the least. The DCT is so much better at shifting than I am. I just get to enjoy the ride without worrying about a clutch or shifter.
I owned a 2018 GW tour for three years. I loved it for touring. It was perfect. But when I wasn’t touring and doing local rides (95% of my riding) it felt too big and kind of boring. So I sold it and bought a Honda shadow 750 and put bags on it, windscreen and luggage rack. Now I have a very fun local bike that can do shorter tours if I want to.
Good to know when it comes to CarPlay on Honda's: you only need a headset the first time you are using CarPlay for the initial connection. After that, when you connect your phone and the screen prompts connect bluetooth, you choose don't pair. Then you hold the back button a couple of seconds and you can use CarPlay without a headset.
I like the looks and the power of the Goldwing but the bike that fits me the best and is the most comfortable bike for me is the bike I chose the Indian Pursuit
Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
I had an FJR1300 2017 and it was a great bike, only thing I really did not like about it was the brakes always felt spongy for some reason. I took the bike back multiple times to have them look at it only for them to say it was normal. I just didnt feel safe riding it anymore so I sold. Just bought the 2024 Hertiage Classic which I'm so happy with. I should have bought one along time ago but I also always want the FJR from back in the late 80's. Anyway I tried and didnt meet expectations
Well, the ride is about the journey not the destination. I passed on the gold wing and the K1600 for the BMW RT 1250, does the distances, and the weather, but also dances in the twisties with 240 less pounds. RT even handles gravel well with a tire switch. Gold wing has its place, but not for me.
That model in black ( I guess that's the only color offered ? ) looks so slick, and as they say, there's the HONDA Goldwing, and then there's everything else. The Goldwing is a legend. In the early 1990's I had the pleasure of riding a friends Goldwing, it was probably an early 80's model, and it was blue. I t was the biggest bike I ever attempted to ride, and turned out to be the EASIEST bike I've ever ridden since all the weight is low and center. It was like riding a cloud. EDIT : That passenger seat is LUXURY !!!!
Probably trickle upgrades, like all vehicle manufacturers do. It's just a matter of time. I was (sorta still am) a purist but after driving a Civic with adaptive cruise control I am a convert. Such a convenient and safe feature, all cars should have that now, as should the Goldwing.
You out can own a Harley and a Goldeing . I had a Fatboy anniversary edition in the light blue metallic. Vance and Hines short pipes and a great Memphis Shades windshield and that low center of gravity made that Harley handle very well for a heavy bike . Corbin seat magnificent ! I purchased a 2007 Gold wing and a safe highway eater with the technology. Wouldn't get rid of either . Put some riding lights in the front pods in the wing that lit to p the road . Have both I do 👍
4:28 actually it matters. Yes, you can get an adapter, but overall Type-C can give higher power output (15W, 27W, 45W to 100W and 5V to 20V), while Type-A is fixed 5V and around 2 to 4.5W... so if you wanna charge your phone or anything else it'll take around 50 years to reach from 10 to 100% with Type-A. So yeah.. it matters a lot and it's kinda disappointing to have Type-A in a car, bike or any vehicle in 2024. But overall thumbs up for the video, love it!
No hate but a lot of cars and bikes provide normal usb ports because a lot of people uses android unless like me who chooses S24 ultra over Iphone 15. I mean its peoples choice i like to use different and new tech products.
Always liked the Goldwings. I owned the bagger version F6b. But if I was in the market for a big touring bike I'd go with a K1600 GT. Cant beat that inline 6 power.
If you are over 6’2 this bike is NOT comfortable period. It’s not designed for taller riders. I have owned 2. Reliable as the day is long, just not comfortable for long leggers.
Just out of topic..actually, want to see your motorcycle review..but I think your body physic is good as a men..FYI, I'm an Asian guy, and I'm short..btw great review ❤
I currently have an FJR1300 and I am strongly considering the GoldWing Tour DCT as my next bike. I did two Iron Butts on the FJR and I have really enjoyed it but the time has come for more comfort on the long trips.
@@WolfinWolvesClothing713 I can't disagree. The FJR is a good looking bike. Just at a point the wife and I are both looking for something more comfortable. She has had to overcome some health challenges and is wanting to get back to taking long trips with me but now has to have something that works better for her and I am over the sport side of sport turning. I am also ready for something different.
I wish Honda would build a new Silverwing or Deauville: All the comfort of the goldwing but more tuned for solo riders and low speed handling: No need for more than 750cc, reduce weight by 50%, but keep the seating position, storage space, shaft drive, and connectivity.
Such a lovely review.🥰 Missed the speaker check, exhaust note. Does it have cruise control? I'd love to go through the screen menus too! Such a bike also deserves a pillion review as well!❤ Could you make another video on that?
Comfort, soooo subjective, and yet such a valid point. Ur an anomaly if u actually pound miles on ANY touring bike and haven’t DUMPED $$ into making the bike comfortable, for u. I put ~10k per year on my ‘16 HD SGS. Not a ton of miles yearly, but I’m out there. See far more Harleys on the road than GWs. Not buying or selling, just saying. Sooo many bikes just sit in a garage. 😢 Someone else posted a comment re u buy a Harley with ur heart and a GW with ur brain. I’d change it a bit. U ride a Harley with ur heart and the connection to the bike and the culture. Some get it, some don’t. My SGS is sooooo incredibly comfortable I, on long trips, need to watch I don’t doze off. Yep, dumped $$ into it to make it that way. Zero regerts. Buy what ya want, ride what ya want, as long as ya ride.🎉
Nice video, but I would suggest you do some research about the bike before making a video like this. What I mean is that the bike has Car Play and Android Auto. What you can get is a wireless CP/AA device to connect. Also you can get highway pegs to stretch out your legs. Im not sure if this is the kind of info youre looking to get out, but I thought the video would be a little more complete if you had this info available. Again, great video!
North Georgia roads are amazing. I've been on this one a couple times. Love running up to Cumming and Dahlonega. You should run this on wolf pen gap road up Suches area. Kind of a mini tail of the dragon. Lol
Haven't watched the whole video yet, but I wonder sometimes about going from my high specs FJR1300 (second one I own) 2019, semi automatic (no clutch lever, just up and down buttons)full led, electronic suspension to the newest Goldwing, mostly for wife reason as she travels as a pillion. Been worried that itll be too slow compared to 150hp of FJR. Being curious what your dad is gonna say.😊
What is a calm breeze of air? You are talking about a tourer, not a hot rod, in my opinion, the king of touring. I have ridden about every popular brand of motorcycle in this country. The gold Wing is the winner. I started riding on a Harley at age 14, I am now 86 years old. That's a lot of time, miles, trails and enjoyment. I put forward foot pegs on my Gold Wings. Comfort for the highway.
I've test driven the new wing, along with many high end legacy brand touring bikes. calling it the most comfy out there or highest performing isnt even close.
Maybe it's different on newer versions of CarPlay, but the one I have in my weekend car definitely does not require a microphone, I just lose certain features without it.
Agreed. my 2023 non-tour DCT is best long driver. I was a manual trans guy until I met the DCT. Now its laborious to ride my other manual trans bikes.
@@gregoriopassport Agree. I don’t think I’ll ever own another shifter bike. I went to an Indian demo and rode their top of the line touring bike - it’s nice! - but kept wondering why I had to shift up and down all the time. Honda Gold Wing is the best bike in the world and has been for 50 yrs. And I'm a Suzuki guy, just saying, respect given to the legendary Gold Wing.
Best bike in the world, at what? You going to ride it on fire roads? A race track? Even a really tight uphill right hand switchback?
@@aluisious Okay, you've changed my mind. The Suzuki SV650 is the best bike in the world.
Harley beats them on the baggage storage. Tour pack needs to open to the side with a rider on the back. Infotainment system still needs to catch up. But overall great bike.
Lost me at ‘Suzuki guy’ 😅
@@bjrnchrstn Why?
Helps when you’re parents are filthy rich
There was the old stereotypical demographic you referred to, but that was left long ago on prior generation of Gold Wings. This newest generation is very cool. It’s been downsized, lightened and underwent a major restyling program. This bike has great handling abilities in the twisties and mountains. In terms of sheer power and handling the DCT will walk all over most large touring motorcycles from all brands. This bike is like a Formula One. You just can’t out-shift a DCT. Live with a DCT long enough and you will be a convert. In traffic and around town. The DCT is immediate off the line. A great bike.
It handles with the precision of a scalpel from 0 - 100 and in reverse. #1, Gade A, First Class, Select Choice. 👊🏻👴🏻👍🏻
Agree! Screens remind me of office cubicles - the last thing I want on a motorcycle.
Agree. Like the speedo/tach as analog..and other virtual screen.
Also...I went with the intention of buying the manual...and ended up with the DCT and it's great. ZERO regrets.
Rivco makes a switchblade peg and they're very good and look fine.
Mid 40’s fuel economy on regular and yes the comfort, I would choose over a H-D without a second thought.
how you finding the Africa Twin? Considering getting one in the future (or the BMW 1250 GS...currently riding a BMW 850 GS)
I am enjoying this bike. It makes me want to hot rod, but I am 67 years old and know better. I like urban mode in town. There are some differences that need to be learned. I have over 30k miles in last 16 months.
love how he was explaining the DCT and went for the clutch lever to start it
It's like a merge of the ST1300 and older Goldwing. I have my Dad's ST1300 and that adjustable windscreen is incredible.
The Windshield on the ST1300 is the best ever put on a Cycle! Loved my ‘03. Now I have an ‘07 Wing … Metallic Black!! Ride On!
Hard to believe it's 800 lbs huh
It's how they design the engine and cradle it low in the chassis . The older BMW K and R bikes were the worst
“Back to tour, that’s all I need”. So right. I like your mannerism and views, so new subscriber. Thanks. From UK
All you need is Goldstrike Highway Pegs and you are set.
There are quite a few options for footpegs. I have them on mine. Works great. Love my Goldwing
7:09 haha😅, the automatic hand for the non existing cluch lever
It's funny how a lot of riders shame the GW for being too comfortable.
Those same people drive 95% in their cars
all of them will complain with their sporty choices when they grow old
I've had an 82 Wing and a 2001 Valkyrie which I loved and regret selling only to buy an Electra Ultra Glide (Harley) which is also very comfortable and shows well.
I have a 22 dct and just got back from the dragon, once you learn to trust the thing it rides amazing anywhere. 2000 miles in 4 days. Yahoo!
@@fb2460; I have played with the manual mode. But I rarely think of it. I’ll give it another try… thanks.
I ride my 2022 Gold Wing Tour in Manual Econ mode 98% of the time...Love it...Smooth and I am in control..!!@@whatsupeh1
What aftermarket seat did you go with? My 2010 GW could not be more uncomfortable after a hour and a half. Thanks!
@seatime674 I agree, first and second gear is a little jerky. If you dont have to come to a stop, stay in second gear.
Bad health, and financial problems put paid to that idea
Thank you for alowing me to enjoy this ride with yourself and your dad.
This is the first time I've ever watched a bike review video completely, you highlighted the useful points and specs, demo is perfect. Subscribed!
Happy for you.
written by a true biker "all bikes are great"
i say this about cars. I am a car man. all cars are great; just get in and go.
The Gold Wing DCT is by far the best bike I've ever ridden, and I've ridden many. Would be my #1 choice hands down for a touring/commuter bike.
Good looking bike. Goldwing has come a long way from my first Wing in 1978.
7:11 that grab for the clutch lever after just talking about it being a DCT is priceless. You can see that muscle memory in action
I have an 08 GL-1800. Love the bike for crushing miles. I love my Harley for just cruising and listening to the thump of the twin-cams
Pretty much all the stuff with the latest wing was available back in 2018 on the BMWs.
your initial comment about maybe less handling couldn’t be MORE wrong
I still have a Hayabusa in the garage but I absolutely love the DCT, I do not miss shifting in the least. The DCT is so much better at shifting than I am. I just get to enjoy the ride without worrying about a clutch or shifter.
Nothing much
Just a father and his son chilling on a Saturday afternoon and filming together 😊
843 lbs is pretty amazing considering how large of a bike that is. Most Harley baggers are well above 800lbs as well.
That's a radical switch lol
Should have mentioned Android Auto also available when talking about CarPlay and the passenger backrest is also heated !
The 1500 series were my favorite. started with a gl1000, then an Interstate 1200. Best bikes ever made ahead of their time.
Well, the ride is about the journey not the destination. I passed on the gold wing and the K1600 for the BMW RT 1250, does the distances, and the weather, but also dances in the twisties with 240 less pounds. RT even handles gravel well with a tire switch. Gold wing has its place, but not for me.
just like the RT is not for many.
I just wish it had adaptive cruise control. Seems like a no brainer considering what it costs and what it's intended to be used for
Probably trickle upgrades, like all vehicle manufacturers do.
I purchased a 2007
Gold wing and a safe highway eater with the technology.
Rented one for a day. I'm sold.
Love mine :) The seat could be better, that's why I replaced it on my 2023 DCT Tour. Low slung weight makes this very stable.
Gold Wing is the Gold Standard of touring bikes
If I had two bikes, this would be my second and I would want it DCT. I didn't think the seat was so low on a Goldwing.
I previously owned a 2018 Goldwing and loved it, however I find my 2023 GSA more comfortable and can ride it longer due to its riding position.
Really why?
Ugh..... fjr looks soooo much better.
I'm not fond of bikes at all, but wow this filming location is very beautiful straight out of movies
When it comes to comfort alone, nothing beats the Honda Helix
Comfort, soooo subjective, and yet such a valid point. Ur an anomaly if u actually pound miles on ANY touring bike and haven’t DUMPED $$ into making the bike comfortable, for u.
I put ~10k per year on my ‘16 HD SGS. Not a ton of miles yearly, but I’m out there.
See far more Harleys on the road than GWs. Not buying or selling, just saying. Sooo many bikes just sit in a garage. 😢
Someone else posted a comment re u buy a Harley with ur heart and a GW with ur brain.
I have a 08 goldwing. Absolutely love it
I have the 07 The loud clunky shifting gears is my only complaint😢
I am really thinking of upgrading my VTX 1800 for this. The reverse feature is appealing to me.
I’ve had a Victory and Indian but on my second Wing . In my opinion the Wing is the best out.
There’s no need to disagree on which is best Gold wing or Harley they are both fantastic, I wish I could afford both!
The smoothest bike I know. Rolls Royce kind of ride. Wonderful.
I was seriously listening and paying attention until he said "I'd get the Harley instead".
good review bro i get mine a bagger in two weeks can't wait
What is a calm breeze of air? You are talking about a tourer, not a hot rod, in my opinion, the king of touring. I have ridden about every popular brand of motorcycle in this country. The gold Wing is the winner. I started riding on a Harley at age 14, I am now 86 years old. That's a lot of time, miles, trails and enjoyment. I put forward foot pegs on my Gold Wings. Comfort for the highway.
The water buffalo is trippy. I've never seen one in the civilian context.
I've test driven the new wing, along with many high end legacy brand touring bikes. calling it the most comfy out there or highest performing isnt even close.
I own a Suzuki Burgman 650, which is called the poor man's Goldwing. My next bike will definitely be a Goldwing.
I have a 2024 Road Glide
