I remember these guys…
Hmmm... they look familiar but I can't remember where I've seen them.
Yeah their cool….
They were hot shots in my youth. The last time I have seen this gentleman must have been decades ago.
😂😂😂
The straight one knocked my sister up.
Can I suggest having the bikes up on the screen for a bit longer. Maybe even let all of them stay on while discussing the category.
Find myself scrubbing back and forth to see what bike it was
Woohoo! Glad to have y'all back!
And it's a Lance episode!
I hadn't come across Lance before - he's a man who makes sense.
I am a new rider and just picked up an Eliminator. It’s very nimble, quick enough, and looks pretty cool. I think the “new rider” who that bike is for. I’m thoroughly enjoying myself.
Welcome to the club!! Lots of practice and smiles in your future!
Eliminator really is just a more nimble Rebel 500 far as I can tell.
Great bike, just wish the branding wasn't so loud on the fuel tank. Out of context of knowing what "Eliminator" is referring to (eliminating Rebel 500 afaik), and just having non-motorcyclists think that it's some attempt and only appearing badass (it does that to, but it's not the whole point), which is just an awkward to me.
If they toned down the loud branding on the fuel tank it'd look as good as esthetically as it looks on spec sheet.
@@MotoDash1100 at least with the pear storm grey, it’s barely noticeable. I plan on getting mine “stealth” PPFed for that matte finish
Forget that. You need a liter bike.
@@michaelnien3738liter bike? Pff at least 1300cc of HAYABOOOSA
Lance is always a great guest.
The "crossover" bikes like the Tracer, Suzuki GX, BMW XR etc. can be called 'TallRounders" if you don't like to use the car nomenclature.
Talking about Dustin Wheelen, can you do a podcast with him to properly introduce him to your viewers/listeners/readers/customers?
FINALLY! I FEEL LIKE WE HAVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THE NEW SEASON! LOVE YOU GUYS!
What a banger, 2.5h of motorbike talks. So glad to have the podcast back ❤
Finally! Glad to see you guys again :)
1:40:00 this just all sounds like semantics.
If a battery can be easily removed it can be made "swappable". It's a case of infrastructure, the first step surely would be to make the battery removable, as the infrastructure isn't currently there and would be very costly it makes sense to allow owners to charge the battery at home.
Then start rolling our battery swap locations. Then users can do both.
Kinda like how gas barbecues came with a propane cylinder that you were supposed to refill whenever it ran out. Then someone got the idea of having an exchange system where you drop off your empty and pick up a different - but full - bottle. And hope the new tank isn't a rusted piece of crap with a leaky valve (the equivalent of which will still be a worry for battery exchanges, I suspect.) Then hook up the gas to the grill and get to cooking again.
i was JUST thinking what a huge massive highside lowside shaped hole there has been in my heart!!!
Glad you guys are back this podcast is really a hidden gem. I am a huge car guy that got into bikes last year with my DRZ400S, so still very green learning alot from these!!
Wonderful bike.
I started riding a motorcycle mid year 2023 because I wanted something to take my mind away , engage me in the moment and provide a bit of entertainment. I wouldn’t change to an electric bike because there is not clutch, no gear, no cool noise and no shacking that gives me feedback. If short trip commuting, I’d take advantage of bike lanes and have an electric bicycle. I need the experience out of my biking time and electric doesn’t do it
Please, please, please! Keep beating the Versys 500X drum! Great video, sorry you missed the Ninja/Z 500 launch!
Great stuff, always good when lance is on. Ari also.
So good to see you guys. Hope you're all well♥️ It's been a long winter. My kneecaps still haven't thawed.
Glad you mentioned the Honda Hornet in the "we're not worthy" category. Mostly these type of bikes would be considered low volume for the US market but that's not the case with the Hornet which should be high volume here. At this point I've given up and gave Suzuki my business and while I might have gotten a better bike in the end the Hornet would have been my first choice and I'm dying to know why we've been excluded from purchasing this model? Seriously, just knowing why would give me a lot of satisfaction!
Even though I had wanted an EV car for over ten years before I finally bought a Tesla model 3 in 2018, it was because they still weren't good enough, or they were good but too expensive for me. So I appreciate Lance's decision to wait. I'm waiting for the 450-750 Wh/kg batteries to become available (next 3-5 years?), then EV bikes will be like the Tesla, blowing away many of the gas bikes, I'll buy one and never look back. Swappable is good for city commuters. Great show, like Zach I'm excited to see the CFMOTO 450 MT.
Cf moto 450 mt looks incredible
I think it's time to bring back the category "tall-rounder" for all these comfortable sporty bikes
Don't call them sport bikes. It's a disgrace to the name.
I was listening on Spotify and had to come here to say this… I am totally on Spurg’s wavelength when it comes to the XSR900 GP. I had a Gen1 XSR900 and it was awesome, been kicking around getting the new one, but I’m holding out for the GP. Such a cool bike and I’m going to be extremely disappointed if it doesn’t make its way to the US.
I thought i am crasy about Motorcycles...but you guys are high end crasy. Thank you, we needed that conversattion!
No mention of the new Moto Guzzi Stelvio in the ADV segment.
❤
Congrats, Spurg!
The tricky thing about the motocompacto is that it's competition is those electric standup "razor" style scooters. It allows you to not have to walk the last few miles to the office, but as Lance mentioned not everyone has an office job anymore.
I was drawn to the whole electric motorcycle thing. I was so close to getting a Livewire, but the cost to ride basically around town at that price stopped me. I have two gas motorcycles in the garage already and now added an electric bicycle. It costs much less. No vehicle registration and in my city that has extensive bike paths is a joy to ride across town. Also, parking is free and convenient. It just made more sense. . .
My Zero SR/S is my favorite motorcycle of all that I've owned, beating out Gold Wing, FJR1300, Burgman 650 (a close second), Tracer, Africa Twin, Multistrada... But your points are valid, particularly that every one who wants and can afford one, already have one. The buyers are drying up.
Missed you guys, welcome back 🙏
I've owned a Lightning Strike C for a full year now. It's hands down the best bike i've ever ridden and I love it. That said, until the big companies leverage their production capability and distribution networks I'm not sure the EV bike segment will grow much. It's really a shame, but i'm happy Kawasaki is at least dipping a toe in. It's true that the pool of buyers is small right now.
35:00 I am also on the highside for CFMoto. If nothing else they are raising the bar for standard features ie. adjustable suspension and cruise control. Let’s see a 800 DR along with the 450. Thanks!
I've been interested in the energica experia, but it never seems to make it into your electric mc discussions. While still pricey, it seems to be making steps in the right direction - more mileage and faster charging. I know they don't seem to have much of a dealer network ,which might affect availability, but i keep hoping to see one on daily rider.
I totally agree that you should do a podcast of what the USA gets versus what Europe gets. But how about bikes you get and we don't
So the Msrp or the 400x is $5,595 but both triumph dealers in the Seattle area are charging for shipping and other handling fees that brings the out the door price to almost $8k. How is that an affordable option?
It's about time! Glad you guys are back, I was concerned for a little bit.
This pod for sure slipped my mind
So glad yall are back. Shout out to the silver fox always adding great commentary to these discussions.
Should we be expecting a new Deauville based on the new Transalp? But no DCT...
Great to see you guys back! You've been missed!
Zach acts like a grown up when Lance is around! Relax Bud. Also Spurg is the man.
Love hsls...❤😂 there is a rev. Engine that you guys missed the boat!!.
There was an inline 4 kawasaki. It was a zr7s. It was not the regular z series.. it was a sport touring bike. Just to let you know.. it is definitely a bike sold in the USA. Only know. Because I have one!!
Bro, lets go! I needed something to get through my work day.
I’m excited about the Triumph 400s (the 400x including), and wonder how long they’ll make the Speed Triple 1200 RR…love that bike, use it for track mostly, and sadly not selling well.
Re dirt bikes on forest roads: big issue in NJ Pinebarrens. IMO just charge a small fee for entry, use it to maintain environment and track.
I feel like something slow down the electric bike industry because companies can make very good bikes but they don't,in vehicle industry elon boom the car industry thats why companies keep going with electric vehicles.but there are some very good bikes like KTM freeride, energica esse esse, live wire
But unfortunately big company don't want to deliver good electric motorbikes.
It’s a shame that there are so few beautiful bikes, hopefully we see some more attention paid to design in the future 💙
This is a great kick-off for season 8! My biggest excitement is the Kawi Ninja 7 Hybrid. Finally, we have "arrived in the future!" As a former, big city, freeway commuter for more than 40 years, this is what I needed and wanted all that time! You did not mention that this is a parallel-type, full hybrid: very important. Riders will be able to select full battery use for riding out of the neighborhood quietly and commuting to work, in the morning, and either returning home or taking a ride through the twisty canyons using ICE and or battery. Then return home and do it all over again the next day! Of course, your mileage may vary.... But wow! What nice options we will have. Even Lance agreed that a commuter could like this bike!!
Why is no one talking about Verge!? That’s a long-range electric superbike right there.
AND they’re in production. AND they’re selling now in the U.S.
This is the only place i get a chance to listen/see this show.
Thank you for adding it to TH-cam!
Let 2024 begin, let’s go High Side Low Side!!
They’re back baby! 😎
The category "ADV ergonomics with street tires and lots of HP"
My vote is to call the category 'Power Touring'
yeah 👍 we back
Great start to the season. I would really love to see a daily rider with the suzuki g1000sx+ lmnoq (dumb name, interesting bike)
Zack, Spurge, AND Lance! We are back full throttle for season 8, lets GO! Will Spurge trade Sally the Rally for Daniella Ducati - Rallye!? Glad to see Zack moved out of the garage. I know ADV's are more function over form but I think the Transalp is one of the better looking bikes of the group. I would want to say I'd add the GS but I think its too much bike for me so thinking I'd take the more manageable Transalp. I would be all too happy to add the Aprillia 457 to my garage! When its comes to standards I would have a tough time picking between the Speed and the Scrambler by Triumph, accept no substitutes lol. So would the Speed 400 be better if we let Bruce turbo it? I believe that was I who said it would have been good to also have the Himalayan 450 alongside the Triumph 400's on that trip. That new BMW cruiser looks good, kinda like a blend of the Indian Scout and the FTR. I like the DSRX as well reminds me of the new Moto Guzzi Mandello. Spurge and Lance should do the Dumb and Dumber ride on a Moto Compacto! I would go with R.E. Meteor 650, think thats gonna be a solid and fun bike. Definitely a twin with a pipe, maybe a V-Strom for Spurgeon the Senior? OK little off but I know because I almost bought one for my first bike that is a Honda Shadow Phantom, great hint from Chase there. Or not, wrong on all counts, my losing streak continues. Glad to have you back for another season Old Sports, see you two!
On the topic of new bikes I’m excited for, I’m looking forwards to more information on the CFMoto 675 triple. Disappointed by the new Triumph Daytona 660 but it looks like the CFMoto might be a solid mid-sized sport bike, at least on paper.
I’m also interested in getting the 1300gs on the scale. There’s no way it’s only 40 pounds more than the f900gs like BMW claims.
So happy this is back!
So far, this podcast was the most funny episode.
I think the NT700 engine has origins in the VLX600 Shadow and early Honda Transalp bikes.
Back! Wonderful surprise, made my day.
Prefect timing, I was already in the shop getting things ready today, weather says riding season kicks off next week here in Ontario Canada.
What does Wiarton Willie say?
Our wise rodent has decreed an early spring. Gotta hurry up on winter projects!@@jw6825
A little of education for my dear and appreciate Revzilla friends/host: The first sport-touring motorcycle (up-right style) was not the Multistrada. It was the Yamaha TDM but never land in USA. Yamaha end the production of the TDM and re-design the model using the MT09 engine and chassis as a platform.
Thanks for rockin' out with your talk out!
Thoroughly enjoyable video. Thanks. Add to list of motorcycles that I would like to see come to the US the Honda NT 1100 DCT. I suppose that puts me in the category of people who liked the Honda NT 700 Deauville when it was new. Nonetheless, the NT 1100 strikes me as potentially very satisfying motorcycle to own.
No mention of the new Sherco 500cc dual sport aimed squarely at KTM's 500excf? No mention of Beta's debut in pro supercross? I'm 45minutes in and they're switching to sportbike discussion, I guess I'll see if they mention something about them toward then end.
BMW R 12 Cruiser!! Historic, yet no mention?!? Other from that I love your shows!
GLad yall are back!
Just the right time!!!
Lance's take on the motocompacto was vicious but true to me as well. Love it
I am so excited for another season. An episode I would like to see is one about which vintage motorcycles are good models to buy and get running. For example, I really enjoy first generation Honda Goldwings, 1975-1979, but they are terrible bikes to be the first vintage you should own. A simpler air cooled motorcycles without points such as the Kawasaki kz750's is a better choice for first vintage bike. I think this would be a good discussion with Ari, or maybe the silver fox again. I am so glad you are back, and congrats Spurge on the marriage!
Seems this was recored loooong ago since they don't mention the triumph 660 daytona or the suzuki 8r
Recorded mid-December, they addressed this very subject (therefore; some recent releases not included) early in the podcast. Did you even watch it?
I missed this release!!!!! so excited for the new season. Let's do this!
CF Moto is a brand that has shown up here on the east coast. I live in Howard County, MD. The Glen Burnie Motorsports dealership has these for sale. I'm much more excited about the new bikes for RE and Triumph that are aimed at bringing more new riders into the fold.
the Honda Superhawk was prob my fav bike i've ever owned. One of the best street engines of all time.
Curious about the KTM 890 SMT coming to America this year, seems like great fun. Also interested in the updated Africa Twin.
Him-ah-layin or Him-All-yun🤔. Enjoy the HSLS podcasts, keep them coming.
With all the new models of adventure motorcycles coming out. There is one area is missing it is for new adventure riders! Giving them new options to choice from !
So glad to have yall back! it wasnt the same without HSLS
Zack, if you are gonna go maxi-scoot, you should daily ride Kymco AK550i scooter with parallel twin engine, 15" wheel and 100+ mph capability.
I can’t believe I correctly guessed the name of that first engine sound and these experts did not. But not until they gave the first and second hint. I’m old enough to not only know all about that bike (plus I owned two Hawk GT’s), I also would be very interested in one now. A reliable midsize touring bike with shaft drive would be ideal, at least for some of us.
I think Lance has missed something important about hybrids - they're not all about electric efficiency per se. They're about making things cleaner in urban driving/riding, in city centres where there's lots of people on the sidewalks breathing in all that exhaust from vehicles stopped in traffic. Yes, they use gas to make their electricity, but that's intended to be outside city centres most of the time, in the suburbs or rural areas where there's less people, less traffic, and more greenery to absorb the exhaust gases.
That said, bikes are a minuscule part of exhaust gases in North American cities, so a hybrid bike really isn't going to be all that relevant anyway...which means (somewhat frighteningly) that Spurge probably is correct that it's more of a concept to get someone over the line and into the dealership to maybe not take the plunge, but to at least dip their toe in and test the waters. Without range anxiety, and without having to buy a second bike for longer trips.
Ben. Cool video. I’ve been watching you for years but didn’t know your background. Thanks!!!!!
Super fun idea. Readers and listeners send in their bikes that they want. Zack to ride their commute. On daily rider. Is that flies out? Does his daily ride review of listeners rides. Because I personally want redemption for Zack's daily ride review of my personal bike 😊
I am currently at 2:12:35 in the vid and with the tips provided and using the information gained from an old SRK Motorcycles vid, I am guessing that the mystery motorcycle is a Honda Shadow RS (which I actually want due to said mentioned video).
What is everyone else's guess?
Yes!! About time !
Since you bring up the topic, have I mentioned that I've already put my money down for the F900GS?
Around 2010-2012 I worked with a guy who had the same bike as I did at the time, a first-gen V-Strom 650. In 2013-14 we both got new bikes. I bought a Tiger 800 and he bought an NT700V. One ride on his bike made me realize I made the right choice. However, you'd think with that being the Hawk GT engine, you could make it feel and sound more interesting.
Aye, the boys are back in town
I am really looking forward to trying out the GSX-8R. It ticks every box for me and I can’t wait to *hopefully* add it to my garage. 💙
Finally back, can't wait for more in 2024. Keep up with great work and greetings from sLOVEnia 😂😊
I'm with Spurg on the XSR900. Love the old school GP styling, but I would add the optional lower fairing. With the lower fairing, it looks like Wayne Rainey's YZR500 two stroke.
Missed you guys! Let's gooo!
OK, finally figured out what actor Mr. Dunbar looks like; Mark Ruffalo. Or more specifically, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (aka the Hulk). I think Mr. Dunbar could double as Bruce Banner for the motorcycle scenes on future Avenger / Hulk movies.
Another question would be with BMW. Been longing for this. A lighter air cooled HP2 round headlight 21 inch front adventure bike. That's sub 500 lb. Which is kind of why I bought a v85 TT
I’m glad you guys are back! Love the longer pod casts! More the better! But why is no one talking about the ninja 500??
I'd be interested to see how it stacks up to the old EX500r. Kawasaki has had high rpm twins figured out for 40 years.
1:50:10 Lance isn't cynical, he's just honest and logical.
missed u guys, specially lance 💗
I gotta say, I'm with Lance on the idea of a hybrid motorcycle. A lot of complexity and weight for... The ability to putt around a city a tiny bit with the electric drivetrain? And you still have to keep it supplied with gas and deal with that maintenance? Fuel efficiency isn't really a prime concern for motorcycles anyway, the main benefits of an electric motorcycle are the lack of maintenance and the ability to charge it at home, not that it might be more efficient in low speed situations... If you still have all the gas bike maintenance and have to put gas in it like a regular bike, *plus* it's more expensive than a comparable non-hybrid bike and is higher maintenance, what's the point?
i want more affordable v4's. where is the new honda vfr :@
What can manufacturers do
Put cruise control on the transalp
That would be a good start 😂
