- Master Duel FINALLY added the ability to craft (some) banned cards, so in today's video @MBT Yu-Gi-Oh! and I travel all the way back to 2005 to play some Reaper Format!

No, what we can come to realize is that Doug cannot play with cards newer than 2005. His inability to read just makes new wall of text cards out of his reach.

I would love to see some Synchro era formats. It’s the era that got me really into Yu-gi-oh. I liked it before that and I wasn’t remotely competitive but I have found memories of that era.
5ds era I feel like is the peak of old school Yu-Gi-Oh. From both the casual and competitive perspectives.

D.D. Warrior gets negated even though it's marked for destruction because during "after Damage Calculation", the monster is still considered to not be sent to the GY just yet, so it's still on the field. At this time, "destroyed by battle" trigger effects aren't activated yet either (until we reach the end of the Damage Step).
I think his confusion is because if a card is markes for destruction, its continuous effect stops applying, pretty sure he was thinking about that
Or you could just say "It resolves on the field so skill drain still applies"
If I were to explain "The monster were flipped face-up for damage calculation, after damage calculation - apply the monster effect, but the monster were already face-up- apply skill drain effect, monster effect is negated."
But I think OP were pretty clear about the explanation already.

Do Perfect Circle format (September 2007 banlist). The only staple you’d be missing is Dustshoot. The Brain Control and Sangan erratas don’t matter too much. Unfortunately Zombies are weakened by not having COSR in Master Duel, but every other deck in the format should be good to go (and Zombies are still perfectly functional despite lacking COSR).
Doug clearly has an advantage now... since old cards didn't nearly have as much text as the new ones (except maybe Relinquished/Thousand-Eyes Restrict) :-P

Noone had mirror force in my friends group, we all played sakuretsu and I was the only one with dimensional prison and dark bribe because they used to be psp tag force promos I think, but 1 person had Chaos Emperor Dragon....💀

Keep doing these, they are fun and interesting. Especially if you and/or the guest having some understanding of the format, it’s very helpful for those of us that have no experience with that meta.

MAYBE a fun idea. A 60 card deck completely (somehow) randomized. 20 random magic cards. 20 trap cards. 10 level 1-4* monsters (to at least have something playable) and 10 more monsters.
In my head it sounds fun. Again, just an idea. Love the vids!
Edit: maybe 15 magic and 15 trap instead. And 30 monsters. Possibly preventing bricking and more possibilities of summoning.
I think that this modern Master Duel allowing "banned format" thing, especially since Konami just announced mote banned cards to be craftable, is a really great way of trying out how good banned cards actually are in a modern setting. This is especially true for Konami themselves who could for sure make a company-only best of 3 Master Duel rooms where they can actively try out banned cards and their impact. Even good players get surprised when MD lights up possible plays that they wouldn't have thought of. Konami could also easily rewrite the scripts for cards on a personal server to try out how impactful this or that change to a card effect would be. Like for example of giving Pot a hopt changes anything. It doesn't, but that was just an example. And while we regular people can't change the scripts we can test banned cards and their power level.
maybe it's just me, but I love how fast some of these turns go.

I played around the time these cards were released and used End of Anubis. 1 trib 2500 atk, beats over pretty much everything and stops all the floaters from activating.
id love to see you both have to come up with decks using specific extra deck card types (Synchros only, XYZ only etc) i think that could lead to some fun decks being played

There was a version of Tele-DAD just after Plaguespreader's release that used Skill Drain and Tomato alongside D Hero cards that was created to combat Lightsworn/Twilight. I'd love to see some decks from that era face off again!
I've been replaying The Eternal Duelist Soul to truly relive older formats, and I completely forgot D.D. Warrior was once called "Dimensional Warrior." Doesn't quite roll off the tongue.

I remember playing these decks. Fast turns. Resource management. Creature Swap swings. The surprise Enraged Battle Ox.
Also: 2400 was the breakpoint for a while (monarchs/nepthys) demise too but that just turned into CYBER TWIN/END game so fast 😂back in the day some of us played Big Shield Guardna to bait Soul Exchange/Crossouts going first. Was niche but it stopped the rolling Monarch summoning and gave a big body under Skill Drain.

I remember Phantom Darkness and Light of Destruction really sped up the format and gave a taste of what's to come when Synchros were announced. Wonder if you guys can recreate that format
btw, you can look at what cards have an animation, if you go to your collection and filter by "animation cut in" all cards with summining and activation animation will come up :)
I really like the old school format duels! I'd love to see more but I get that there's not a lot to cover that hasn't already been done on history of yugioh/jank
Hey if you ever decide to do this again you can agree to skip turn 1 to have the player going second to draw and not use their battle phase to simulate turn 1

Since it fits here xD ... when we were playing at my school we didnt really care about the banlist so we all had some pretty broken stuff ... i was playing an upgraded version of the ancient gear starterdeck with 3 geartown (ignoring the fact taht activating a new one over the old one didnt trigger it) and triple ultimate offer with the gadgets soo that was fun xD one friend of mine was playing dark worlds with gracefull charity etc and he would regularly summon darksteel fighter and tribute his graphas which was horrifing ... so yeah we had some fun and some i very unusual decks xD

Pure format would be fun lol building decks using no staples or outside cards only archetype (i realize for certain decks like albaz and and decks that encompass a bunch of archetypes could be hit in as way that makes them unplayable or a rule preventing decks that fall in line with multiple archetypes lol pre scraps is freaking amazing
Honestly I love pure archetype decks because archetypes are a huge part of Yugioh for me and it gets stale seeing the same "archetype" decks that are just five cards from that archetype and then the rest are the same staples that everyone else plays. I understand that it's necessary to be competitive but it removes so much personality from the game.

Back then I didn't play competitively and hadn't heard about Metamorphosis. But when I pulled it in a pack and realized I could use it to summon Thousand Eyes Restrict, I thought I was an original genius! 🤣

You could do a series of old Yu-Gi-Oh Legendary duels. From deulist kingdom all the way to the new ones.
banlist idea! NVG (not very good) Archetypes. If the Archetype has shown up in a top 3 YCS decklist, that achetype is banned.
An alternative that would be more of a series, no banned list. Every week, loser can semi-limit 3 cards, or limit 1 card. On 2 losses in a row, that player can ban one card.
early synchro or synchro+ xyz era is the most fun format I played
Reaper format is even better once you dive into the jank side. Baseball Kid or Rescue Cat OTKs, Light Banish, Lekunga Bunga Beats. It's all great stuff
I call this the sentence format, as opposed to the paragraph format that is played nowadays.
I would love a Zexal era jank episode with something like Chronomaly vs Heraldic Beasts.
Duel once with the cards they had back then, then once with the support they got 4 years too late.
As someone who watches DotoDoya I'm all too familiar with Swords of Revealing Light. Would be a cool "crossover" to see you bust out an old school deck against him or Rhymestyle or Seereax
Skill Drain needs to be errata'd to say "Effect Monsters on the field lose their effect(s). They are still effect monsters." (this would prevent bs like Exiled Force's effect "activating" on the field, but then tributing itself as a cost to "resolve" the effect from the graveyard; as well as all the other bs Skill Drain does).
that just makes it even more confusing the better errata would be "Negate effects of all face-up monsters on field while they are face up on field and their effects cannot be activated."
Though skill drain doesn't need any more buffs.
@@pinkpidgeon6926 The reason I worded it the way I did is because other forms of wording (taking your as an example) can be worked around by things that say "This effect cannot be negated". Saying the monsters "lose" their effects, basically would be a ruling application that the monster is treated as an effect monster still, but it has no effect (similar to vanilla monsters). This is the way Skill Drain is intended to work, so it makes sense this way. This also prevents any ruling issues with Jinzo since Jinzo's effect would be turned off as it enters the field, but before it's continuous effect can be applied (Rulings note: all continuous effects on the field apply to cards newly placed, such as monsters/continuous spells/continuous traps/field spells/effect monster effects, before any new effects take place). This also means that your choice of wording would not negate continuous effects because the effect is neither "activated" nor "triggered" as it would need to be in order for a negate to be possible. Additionally, continuous effects do not get "activated" so the part saying that effects cannot be activated doesn't work on continuous effects either. This is all the more reason to say the monsters "lose their effects" which is a simple line that does exactly what it says, is within the rules, and doesn't cause ruling issues.
And that's pretty much the diff between the 2, MBT had a conga line of assholes, Dzeeff had a conga line of bigger assholes that are hard to deal with in this meta due to their free effects and stupidly high stat line.

Unfortunately the best they could do with Dragon Rulers currently is make a deck with 3 Tempest and all the babies, since Blaster, Redox, and Tidal haven't been made available for crafting yet. But speaking of Dragon Ruler format, I think they could craft full power Spellbooks with 3 Judgment?
Not a real format, but I'd like to see a format where you both open a different random main set each. Then you both get to choose a single side set or promo tin-type item (no starters or structures decks) to open and round out your deck.
You choose the side set AFTER opening the main one.

If y'all are going in order this isn't the next format, but Edison Format is cool. I don't know if Master Duel has all of the cards but MBT knows that format pretty good
format idea: Normal monsters main and extra deck only if an main/extra deck monster uses normal monsters as material but has an effect they are limited to 1 copy and allowed, each spell and trap card is limited to 1 copy but no banlist applies so Pot of greed vanity emptiness are allowed
MBT should've activated skill drain to attack directly for 2100 in the first duel

Part of the fun is figuring out how MD's jank and the modern erratas change the balance of these old decks against each other. Though the hard part is finding people willing to go into these scuffed formats to play against in duel rooms.

I think more cards would need to be unbanned or un-errated to play more iconic old school format decks but there’s probably a lot of room for some of the jankier decks within iconic formats.
There’s a bit of goat that’s meme garbage, same with Edison. H.A.T format is probably pretty playable given how recent it is for being an old format.
You should be able to do niche appeal formats like gentlemen’s agreement nekroz mirrors where you “side out djinn.”
