    Great video as always, thanks!! I would have liked you to have weighed the screens, that explains the extra pleats in the Amsoil & the weight difference, thinner metal screen. Both made by Champion Labs, although the Fram chat agent denies it, LOL. Royal Purple also a Champ product with different micron rating, so apparently the brand owner can specify media type & backing. I think the pull apart test was unfair, as oil flow will be pushing the pleats toward the inside, you applied pressure FROM the inside to get it to separate.
    I would like to see another Fram Titanium (only sold by Advance Auto Parts) dissected as they have eliminated the metal screen (mesh) in that line. The 10575 (Fram) is a fast mover, so you're more likely to get a more current version of it. Look inside the core with a bright LED flashlight, you will see the wire through the holes if it's there. Thanks again!! Keep up the good work!

      Thanks, Bob👍Glad you liked the video, and Thanks for pointing out the seam to me I didn't realize that it may have looked bad for the oil filters.
      The seam pull-apart was just to show that it can be pulled apart in case anyone was wondering. Some people who have never opened up one of these filters may not know this. If it looked like I was bashing/putting down that seam, I wasn't, in all reality any oil filter seam can all be pulled apart, metal crimped/glued/etc. Take Care😊

    Both filters made by Champ Labs, same synthetic media and for all intents and purposes the same filters. Blinded Amsoil fanboys have claimed that Amsoil used some special (Donaldson) media, but that was just bovine excrement. The FE is readily available at WM ~$13, so it is the clear and easy winner here. No need to pay multiple level marketer (Ponzi Scheme) pricing for the Amsoil. I'd choose the FE over the current cheapened media Ultra for extended ocis. Thanks for the comparison.

      I'm not a fan of Amsoil, but I haven't seen any Amsoil filters from before 2011 independently tested or cut open to know whether they did ever use the Donaldson media that allegedly could filter to 15 microns absolute, I dug back in the web archive and in 2010 they were still claiming 15 microns absolute but around 2011 they started claiming 20 microns absolute then later on they started saying 99%+ at 20 microns.

    • @faxmen09
      @faxmen09 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@brandonupchurch7628 Perhaps in the far distant past (over a decade) the Amsoil filter may have used another media manufacturer, or even filter maker. However, that hasn't been true for some time, yet the myth seems to continue among Amsoil fanboys. Fyi, absolute means @98.7% but has become a rather obsolete term. Now with ISO 4548-12 being the standard testing, some % at some micron level more widely accepted. 99% @ 20um a common top rating now.

      I’m pretty sure Fram filters are now made by first brands LLC

    • @brandonupchurch7628
      @brandonupchurch7628 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First Brands owns Fram and Champion Labs, but they seem to mostly keep them seperate, probably because legally in the early 2000s Rank Group bought out Champion Labs then in 2011 Honeywell had spun-off Fram Group and sold it to Rank Group which is an investment firm, so when Trico bought them they were probably still separate legally entities.

    I’ve worked in a couple factories, mainly food processing factories. When it comes to ketchup and other condiments; the specifications are between X weight and Y weight. So one 32oz bottle may be a couple grams off from the one next to it. That is probably what happens at these oil filter factories where it could be by weight or by how many pleats.

    Thank you for the video. The only thing is missing- gluing quality. I haven't find yet bad glue on Amsoil filters. FRAM glue job is generally good too, except on FRAM Ultra Synthetic often they wrap the mesh around the media preventing it from touching the glue and allowing small percentage of the oil to bypass the media. Not as horrible fault as ACdelco (multiple large portions of the media not glued) filters have but I am expecting it to be fixed.

    Enjoyed your video. Nicely done. I first used an AMSOIL filter back in 1979. They were white, not black. And AMSOIL cautioned against using their filter with a non synthetic, or it would filter the additives out of the oil. AMSOIL recommended using a HASTINGS filter in lieu of having their filter. This was back before WIX took KRALINATOR and BALDWIN took HASTINGS. My, how things have changed. My filter of choice for years was HASTINGS. Back when they were HASTINGS, not poorly disguised BALDWINs. Anyway, where I am now the AMSOIL filter has been unobtainium. Counter guy just shrugs his shoulders. Tells me to buy a WIX. I went to the dealer and bought a couple of FL500S MOTORCRAFT. I was told they're actually PUROLATOR. I don't know, but at least I can get them. So far, so good. Thanks again for a good reveal.

    I wonder if the slight differences have to do with the date of manufacture? Late 22 was when the Ultra changed the filter media with no wire backing and Fram added the Titanium to the line-up. Then the Endurance came out in early 23. This is all based off memory, so my dates could be skewed. Maybe the Amsoil spec’d the filter for slightly more pleats, either way $8-$10 isn’t worth 2sq in more media when it’s the same media.

    • @WhipCityWrencher

    just so you know. just heard something at the auto parts store about mobil 1 filter glue failing under metal end caps. so my buddy was doing his oil change and uses those filters and asked if I could have it. Cut it open and the end caps easily peeled off each end. Metal end caps are glued over plastic ones under the metal. My 10 year old could of peeled these off. He is till going to use them just figured I would post here about it.

I get the member discount and buy the case of 12 filters ($164.75 or, $13.73 per filter). Now, being a member, I also earn a $5 credit for every $100 I spend (basically it’s a 5% discount across the board since that rebate applies to ALL Amsoil products, not just filters). In short, I pay $13.04 per filter on average. And you’re paying $12.72 for the Fram equivalent and screaming “SUCKERS!!!” to people like me because you’re paying 32 cents less per filter!!!! LOL!!!

Once the 'on topic' EAO17 added to cart the price is $22.35 as @highrzr "accurately" states. And, that price does NOT include shipping costs. The $18+ shown before adding to cart is 'perhaps' for some EAO filter, but not the topic. Seems like smoke and mirrors pricing deception from Amsoil.
