- As Gale Banks prepares to debut the new Banks diesel crate engine program, he wants to know as much as he can about synthetic motor oil. How is it made, what additives are used and why, and what qualities define a superior synthetic motor oil? Question in a piece of paper show 25 000 mile extrem think, why people has to change the oil every 5000 mile ? What hapened with the rest of the 20 000 miles ?

I’m running a 07-1/2 Ram Cummins 6.7 deleted due to the dpf and catylic converter was both bad and was nearly shutting truck down. But it has 175k miles on it and I run Rotella oil in it would changing to a synthetic oil be better for it or with this much mileage it wouldn’t matter.
I have a question for Gale. What’s your input for conventional versus synthetic oil for an engine break in? I’ve heard lots of things but would like to see what the Mr. Gale Banks has to say.
I'm glad they pointed out the quality work the tradesmen put into building the facility. As an electrician I always do my best to make everything look like a piece of art only knowing that nobody will notice!

You never see anyone talk about the actual equipment in-depth at a facility tour like this, I love it.
come to amsoil in Superior, they will happily talk about this stuff on the tour if you ask the right questions. they are very proud of their product, and since I live so close, all my stuff has had amsoil in it since forever ago. its the best oil you can get.
Go to Schaeffer’s in St. Louis. They will show you everything and their oil will out perform ams oil on friction tests etc

Not that I've taken lots but I've toured a few facilities myself and I have yet to find a tour that didn't provide in depth info being that's the purpose of touring them. Go on better tours.

Insane engineering with quality control and quality assurance to match. In a sea of cheap imports it is awesome to see an American manufacturer still here employing American creativity and personal initiative to create premium synthetic motor oil. I'm really impressed, thanks guys for this video.

Instead of trade tarrifs, if US manufacturers made quality products, top end engineering, and top notch production, we can succeed against cheap imports. Do what the cheap nation's can't do. Do what cheap labor cannot do. Don't whine about cheap imports. Do what they can't.

When I ordered my diff cover a couple months ago I got a call from a banks to check the fitment and I was more than excited when Gale had told the guy calling me that he knew my Grandpa back in the day. My grandpa was John Siroonian and was the founder of Western Wheel. I just thinks that’s so awesome that Gale recognized my grandpas name from my order. It made my day!
I think it’s impressive that Gale, being the name and head of the company even saw the name on your order!

@@EddieErion929 My real name is John Payton Siroonian Garcia. But I just put John Siroonian usually. My grandpa had his race teams back in the 70s, 80s, so for Gale to say something was awesome. Idk how well they knew each other but Gales got one hell of a memory then. My grandpa also owned ForgedTrue Pistons in the late 70s.

I remember when AMSOIL came out, a lot of confusion was created by "old school" mechanic's. They got schooled and it became the new high standard in lubrication at first sold out of peoples garages and homes! Now you find it everywhere! Love it!
As a USCG licensed captain who previously worked out in the Gulf of Mexico Oil Patch, I can appreciate this technology and how this operation works. The electrical and plumbing that went into this manufacturing plant are top notch. Even though there is still a big need for mineral based oils and lubricants, I have used synthetic oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid in my vehicles, and turbocharged drag truck since the late 1980’s, so I’m a big believer of synthetics. Amsol makes a great product! Thank you Gale Banks and Scott Davis for showing everyone how synthetic oils and lubricants are made, processed and packaged. I really enjoyed this series of informative videos! Keep those diesels running and racing Gale!

@@bankspower YW Gale! You still look as fit as a fiddle for your age which is amazing, and your knowledge about the turbocharging of Diesel engines would fill volumes of books. Of course, life is better when you do the things that you love doing.
On another note, I had one of Kenny Duttweiler’s original stage 3 Turbo Cams in my Buick GN prototype engine that I swapped into a 1983 GMC S-15 4wd Pickup Truck back in 1989. I use to talk to Kenny occasionally before he really got involved in Drag Racing. At that time, Turbo magazine approached about that engine swap because it was the first of it’s type ever done. However, we weren’t able to get that magazine article done because of my schedule. I purchased this engine out of the Turbo Blue Buick Motorsports Drag Racing car and, I still have this truck. Yet, it is currently in storage and not running at this time. A lot of the items on this engine were cutting edge technology and costly at the time. I spent a lot of hours modifying and tweaking this engine all by myself.
Also, I was fortunate enough to actually know Smoky Yunick. Occasionally, I would call him at his “Best Damn Garage” down in Titusville and would ask his opinion about the engine mods that I was doing. Sometimes, it seemed that we would talk for hours about racing engines and high performance modifications. I actually still have the book that he wrote and published about turbocharging. It is like the Bible of Turbocharging. He was a real legend just you are. Again, I really enjoy watching your videos which are very informative about the Automotive industry and it’s innovators, such as yourself.

As a supply chain guy for 30 plus years, an Amsoil user for 15, a very small dealer for about 10, and a Banks fan and customer for a long time - well this just warmed my heart. Glad to see two legends working together.

Pretty amazing. Handling millions and millions of gallons of oil and you don't see a drop of oil anywhere in the factory. I normally only handle 7 qts of oil during oil change and yet always spill some and mess up my garage floor.
Henry T...........I've been through that facility a couple of times, and I have never seen oil on the floor! The facility is VERY CLEAN!
Any Toxic Waste, on the Floor, is Squeegeed into a nearby Stream/River.

What I rarely see mentioned is how Gale is 79 years old, and still fit as a fiddle. He's in better shape than his tour guide! I aspire to be half the man Gale is, beyond the ultra-successful businessman. I remember reading about Gale's work in books decades ago, and to see him today like this is amazing. Thank you for the amazing tour from start to finish!

@@yeeyee5.382 you'd be shocked to learn how poorly mobil does in lots of testing. They are good in TBN when you look at their top line stuff, but they can't match in wear protection and thermal stability.

Glad to see Gale is still around. He built my 428SCJ in the late 70's. Said it would hold together past 8000 RPM. A couple missed shifts at the track proved him correct :D Also gave me the secret to no blown head gasket on a Ford FE series engine without O-ringing it. I never blew another head gasket. Thanks Gale!

@@jrodriguez1374 LOL the Fe series engines only had 10 head bolts and were known for blowing head gaskets. When I took my parts to Gale for the build I wanted him to O-ring the cylinders. He said he could do it but if I was worried about blowing gaskets He had a solution. At that time it was to use the Felpro sandwich gasket. Use new head bolts with hardened washers. (They did not come with factory washers) Use anti seize and torque the heads. Run the car about 50 miles then re-torque. Do this again so that heads have been torqued at least 3 times. He assembled the engine with new head bolts and washers. I re-torqued twice after that. Never blew another head gasket.

I’ve used Amsoil in my vehicles for the past 20 years. My 02 Tacoma just hit 300k and it runs and sounds as smooth as a sewing machine. You absolutely can feel and hear the difference once you run their oil. Bought my wife a Honda Passport and after break in, in went Amsoil. Use it in my 05 Honda CBR 1000 and BMW R1200rt. All run beautifully!
The world is a better place with Mr. Banks in it. I've always loved and appreciated this guy.

I've been using synthetic motor oil for over 25 years in my vehicles (Mobil 1 ) and I believe it's the key to maintaining an engine for a long time. However, I have never even heard of AMSOIL and I had no idea that they are the pioneers of the industry and have this amazing history. In the future I'll be using their product for sure.
You hear him say multiple times, blending (bottling company)...
They blend oils which makes you think that someone else is making the base oils... And that company sells that base oil to other companies too. Im an AmsOil user for close to 20 yrs btw.
@@ilovebohol that's correct I believe there's a youtuber by the name of project farm that I'm pretty sure will explane that. So there's a certain mixture that is key. But the base is the same as a bunch of oils out there I'm not all the way sure but one of the cheap oils uses the same base but don't hold me to that. Go look up project farm

I love to listen to Gale, when he walked by the rail car and seen the load limit and said “there’s a number” it made me think of a few times I went to a couple of derailments to have propane pumped into my semi trailer. You don’t realize the catastrophic damage that occurs in a rail accident until you see it firsthand, and how super tough the rail cars are to prevent major leaks and or explosions resistance.

This is possibly the best Amsoil video I've seen, and a large part of that had to do with Gale asking about and observing the right things. I work in the petrochemical industry so seeing these rail cars being received plus all of the piping, pumps and automation going on is very relatable.
Amsoil is worth every penny. It's all I'll ever put in my car and my Harley.
A portion of this along with another dealer who i follow here on TH-cam made me become an independent amsoil dealer. I love being a dealer part time and will eventually do it full time. As a plumber of over 20 yrs I really am impressed by that facility, with all those pressure reducing valves and stainless compression fittings......and the pig...yes who can forget about the pig, used those on large sewer laterals in new construction industrial builds, to clean up after dirty contractors that dump shit down the drains during construction. .....

The amount of humility that someone as absolutely legendary as gale banks has blows my mind. In an industry populated by the likes of Richard Rawlings and Paul Teutul its such a breath of fresh air to see an absolute master of mechanics and engineering ready to learn something new even as an older pro.
I just can't even comprehend how there is millions of gallons of oil everywhere and not a drop on the floor! I can never NOT spill at least something on the floor.
Its great to see companies that actually care about equal fluid levels, ive bought products that have visible differences in fluid levels. Amsoil is #1

The realest tour I've ever seen. Really showed the history and American spirit to build and become the first in the industry. Not to mention, the technological and production advances to keep up with demand. I've used amsoil engine flush, P.I, power foam and dot 4 brake fluid, but have not used their oil, but that will change soon!! 🇺🇸
I truly appreciate the incredible as kissing that went on through this tour! I learned so little about how synthetic oil is produced, but i fell great about buying it. Please do more videos like this!

I agree, maybe someone is getting a payback for all that butt kissing and good reason for charging 3 times what it’s worth, personally I think full synthetic is way over rated , over priced. The last 30 years I’ve bought farm and fleet oil what Evers on sale by the case zero problems . Title should be how synthetic oil is bottled and how to brainwash the public to spend three times as much because we were the first !!!

I've been an Amsoil dealer for nearly 15 yrs. Hands down the best synthetic on the planet. Great video. Loved the part about the pumps never having a failure. I have all products from gasoline, diesel, two stroke, and small engine. All the fuel additives and greases also the antifreeze in every vehicle I own and have never had a lubrication related failure ever in nearly 15 yrs. Run cool ride hard Amsoil 😎.

I have been using Amsoil since my Grandfather started selling id in the 70's. Never have I had an engine failure.
We must be about the same age. My grandfather was an auto mechanic and a born-again Amsoil dealer and evangelist. I remember being an awestruck 7 year- old listening to him telling success stories to skeptical customers. "And When they tore it down, you could see the cross-hatches on the cylinder walls like it just came from the factory the day before." Great memories.

Best factory tour ever. Extremely informative. 2 amazing brands. That have earned my trust over the years. And they will ABSOLUTELY earn my business forever. The quality control of this facility is jaw dropping. And the fact Gale just takes a case and walks off🤣
That factory will work few years from now on, more to come for ice hybrids engines (that still need oil) but when govern laws will pull the plug switching to full electric cars, that factory will be out of order.. since full electric vehicles don't need oil (for engine, for gearbox or for transmission diff-lock..) the ev's will have different needs (better batteries)..
@@poplaurentiu4148 The TESLA for instance, does use a gear lube in their transfer cases, and in terms of TOTAL ELECTRIC Vehicles, is going to take eons before all the ICE's will be extinct !
@@1gr8oil Tesla uses a 1-speed automatic transmission, meaning they only have one gear when it comes to shifting as they don’t need more than that. This is because electric motors generate 100 percent of their torque (required for acceleration) at very low speeds, but from the first gen Tesla up until now i didn't see any owners change the fluid from the 1-speed automatic transmission because it don't need or require changing..

We’d have to have a ground breaking revolutionary change in battery tech, before we even come close to ice going away. And even then, it will be decades. Pretty sure this company will be around long after you’re not.
The guide at Amsoil really knows his job, the facility, the product, and is passionate about it. Perfect man for the job. I hope he's well compensated, you don't see that as much anymore.

I don't doubt that AMSOIL is a good oil but the greatest thing is particulars who take good care of their cars, truck, garden equipment, power equipments, motorcycles engines and do regular maintenance.

I'm used to these kinds of "tour" videos having an interviewer who doesn't know or care about the subject matter and can't appreciate what's being explained. Sometimes the representative being interviewed doesn't care either or just glosses over everything.
But these two guys are great. I love how Banks notices little details like clean welds, straight pipes/lines, and asks the right questions and clearly understands and appreciates the whole amsoil process. And the Amsoil guy clearly knows how the facility works, you can tell that he's visualizing everything he's explaining to Banks, like he designed it himself. And he clearly appreciates how the facility works.
It's just refreshing to see a factory tour with extremely knowledgeable professionals, instead of know-nothing buffoons...

Here is a man after my own heart making a fuss over that plumbing. I am a mechanical designer and have done countless piping arrangement for power plants and appreciate the value of well thought out piping runs and then seeing you designs carried through by skilled tradesmen who care about doing quality work. That smaller stainless steel tubing is probably for instrumentation.
Very impressive facility. Very clean and in order. This from a 25 year industrial maintenance man.
As an engineer I worked for Anheuser Busch in Leuven (Belgium) where they make beer, Stella Artois.
In Leuven the factory is downright chaotic, dirty, every fifteen minutes a breakdown, gigantic workload due to all the mistakes. Pipes with beer that are for the garbage can because of the breakdown, etc.
This Amsoil factory is a jewel, clean, well-arranged, organised. Thought out.

@@TheCeki1982 sounds like a food plant i used to work at. Couldn't even stop for a sandwich before my name came over the intercom. It was just constant "brush fires". They didn't want to be down for anything.

Love their 1 micron oil bypass filters. Keeps our Caterpillar C-15 and C-18 engines alive longer.

Very interesting getting to see the inner working at Amsoil from your perspective I have been using it for just over 21 years now my '06 chevy 2500hd with the lbz duramax has ran since the first fluid change and is still going strong today with over 613,000 miles and counting
always interesting to see high mileage like that. Usually comes down to maintenance got a 2012 tundra that has 463k and counting runs like a top truck is pretty rough looking but pretty good mechanical wise. Sadly my yukon suffered abuse before i got it just hit 220k and she be getting sparkly
What are your change intervals? I have an 03 duramax I just got with 103k on it
@@jonnyg9330 after the initial change at 3800mi I started sampling the oil at 10,000 mi intervals and changing the oil and filter at 20,000mi intervals till about 150,000 miles then I went to sample at 10,000mi filter at 20,000mi and oil at 100,000mi unless I saw something in the sample or winter was going to hit at the 100,000mi mark I would change early. Never had a sample flag for immediate change and only changes early for winter no garage and don't like to lay in snow. But I did break an oil cooler seal and changed at 80,000 once and the last changes was at 80,000 just to get back in schedule with my other fluids trans, transfer, and diffs

@@jonnyg9330 I bought this truck to see what it costs too put a million miles on a vehicle I also originality bought the bypass filtration for it from Amsoil but after sampling and the fear of breaking an oil line and dumping all the oil I never installed the bypass filter but decided too let the oil samples dictate my change interval and at 100,000mi I decided that I can't push it any farther due to my comfort level the samples say I can keep samplings at standard interval I do run the EaO filter states it is good for 25,000 or one year with my driving as I am mostly highways and not loaded most of the time. I do roughly 45,000, miles a year and only about 5,000 of those are loaded down / pulling my trailer the rest of the time it is just what fits in the bed usually bulky not heavy. I wanted to see if the oil will do what it said it will and so far so good. I keep good records and check everything often and at 100,000mi the oil has for the most part changed itself through attrition with the samples and the filters I add about a quart every 10,000 miles sometimes 1.5 expecially now that I am getting up there in milage. And for full disclosure I am an Amsoil dealer (all be it small-scale) and this is what I do with my truck I worked up to this procedure with this truck letting data drive my decision I don't know that I would recommend anyone try this without starting with the samplings and keeping good records. Also my truck is pretty much stock no big tunes or aftermarket preformance parts. I run the oil in all my vehicles and I can't get this type of millage out of my wife's Traverse the samples pretty much say change at the 20,000 mile mark so it gets a sample at every 8,000 - 10,000 miles and filter and oil at between 16,000 and 20,000 miles
Synthetic oils were created because of operating conditions of the jet aircraft engines. The high temps in the hot section downstream of the combustion chambers caused the conventional oils to coke up. This clogged the drains and the oils lost the lubricity at those temps. The cold flow ability was just a side bonus.
Yes, but that thermal stability now helps in turbo GDI applications that get thermostatted to 212⁰F and run around in 110⁰F heat here in west Texas for 15k miles
They started using synthetic oil during WWII in regular combustion engines, but synthetic oils in themselves goes back much further than that.
I'm a proud owner of a small diesel repair shop. I admire and look up to Gale. I'm busting my ass off because I'd like to end up like this man: Making custom products and helping out the industry at large.

I use amsoil in all my vehicles. Including the transmission fluid. Great product! My dad picked up on this; from what I can remember; at least 20 years ago.
I remember 2 instances when I changed the oil. About 500-1000mi. the vehicle developed an oil leak. One started leaking from the dip stick tube where it met the oil pan 😂 (93 Cadillac eldorado TC with the L37 Northstar). On the next oil change, I used either semi synthetic or conventional oil. It eventually stopped leaking with the second grade oil.
The second vehicle was my 93 Kawasaki zx7. It started leaking from countershaft gasket. Did the same thing at the next oil change and it stopped leaking as well.
Amsoil really is a great product. It cleans and protects the internal components like no other.
That's a true leader right there.
Making sure that everybody knows that just because his name is on it doesn't mean it didn't take an army of men to come up with such a beautiful made machinery.
I really hope Banks continues on after Gail passes, because I followed him my whole life and everything that he's done is just freaking amazing. I need to turn it off fairly cleanly, emissions wise I mean emissions wise.
I've been in bottling/packaging for almost 20 years. Started out with similar equipment. Now in beverages, container count is usually 1 to 2 thousand a minute. A nice looking facility.
It's all amazing! So much speed and accuracy in filling each quart and not a single drop of oil to be seen!
I really enjoyed watching this . Mr Banks you are a true automotive treasure . I have used banks performance parts for many years . They have always over performed and have never left me stranded . Here’s wishing you many many more years .
I mainly use Motul oil but the history of Amsoil and the manufacturing is impressive

This oil company is magnificent. What a BEAUTIFUL facility. Able to produce multable oil products at one time with accuracy. From the plumbing & electrical to the mechanics & the pigs to the organization & management this place is AMAZING.
