    • @FordBossMe

Because they buy the cheap $5 $6 filters and try to run it 10,000 Mi and when the filter starts to come apart then blame the filter instead of their own lack of Maintenance you buy cheap stuff you get cheap stuff you buy higher end filters you get higher-end service

@@FordBossMe I change the oil on my grandmother's mazda mpv every year which has a ford 3.6/3.5 dont remember exactly. I always use the fram ultra filter because that's what's available at walmart and my only complaint is every year the damn filter crushes when I try and remove it which makes it tough because its above the exhaust in a bad spot and the gasket without fail gets stuck. I'll try the fe2 next year and see what happens. The vehicle uses the 2 size filter so it's funny you're showing the size in the video :)

Dont tighten it so much. Doesn't need to be that tight.
Its not going to vibrate off. Spin till it stops then a lil twist about a half turn.
Ive crushed high end filters and had to chisel filters off thanks to over tightening.

Hello Fellow Carhaulics & Friends: Rich, thank you for your expert opinion on these 3 Fram oil filters. Have you noticed that it's us old timers that are pushing away the cloud of secrecy within the automotive industry. Yes these jiffy joints will install the cheapest filter / parts in an customer's vehicle & just send them on there way. These quick oil change places only care about 1 thing ( PROFIT ) !! For me personally I don't want to find cardboard in any filters on my vehicles. I most probably agree with you that the pink one in the middle will do nicely for a 5 k Interval. IMHO any person that purchases a filter solely on price is just asking for trouble + being totally stupid. Thank you again sir for your findings, your time, & efforts with the making of this video. May I wish you nothing but much success, good health, & my best to your family. TMP from N.J. 😊😊😊😊

thanks for letting us see this. It is appreciated. I like the middle one too. I have used fram filters for 30+ years and always do oil changes between 3 and 5 k. I had always used the low (base) price fram filters. Never had an issue with leaks or failures. The 04 f350D though, only gets the motorcraft filters due to all the horror stories I read with the fitment and seal issues. I assume its a correct choice. I did my first DIY oil change on it last week, 15 qts was a little messy on my driveway but it came out just fine. God Bless

The reason I don’t buy the top of the line filter is because they used to put the metal mesh inside the ultra filter and then about three years ago they just stop doing it. The public was pissed off and they said we just make a stronger filter element, so the metal mesh would just be overkill, then they come out with this top of the line filter using the same Metal mesh that they used to use in the frame ultra synthetic so all they did was stop using it in the ultra waited one year and started using it again calling it a different name of course i’m speaking about the endurance filter so they could charge five bucks more per filter. Meanwhile, they were giving you that already. When you bought the frame ultra, I think the endurance is just a rip off. because all the endurance is , is the old Fram ultra that we used to get three or four years ago, they think we have The attention span of a goldfish

Would have liked to see the Titanium. The Endurance is a Champion Labs made filter exclusively made for and available at Walmart, just like the Titanium is made for Advance Auto parts but on the regular Fram production line. I believe the Super Tech filters are or were made by Champion. The Titanium has the same wire backed full synthetic media as the 'old' Ultra before they went to that cellulose backing. The Endurance is a high flow filter, and advertised as such, which to go 25k it would need to be. The retail on the Endurance is $12.99. I would go with the Titanium. It has the Ultra media. One of the other things, the Champ Endurance filters have louvers instead of the holes in the center tube. I would say that the Ultra is a great filter for the money.

Price and oil change intervals depend on how long you plan to own the vehicle. You don’t get more for your used vehicle if you spend more on oil and filter. If you are keeping a vehicle long term and willing to pay for more extensive repairs then spending more on oil changes with better filters and fluids is beneficial for engine life

Just a point of information here. The Ultra cut open is not the same as the current proven cheapened media Ultra being sold by First Brands, Fram parent. Interesting what Fram is doing with the lineup. Seems like the Endurance is what the Ultra used to be. If anything, if I would bet, the micron rating is inverse to what we might want to believe. You can’t have higher micron filtration and higher flow with longer filter life. It’s just not going to happen. As much as I hate the paper end caps, I have seen more residue (looks like black paint) at the bottom of the can with the Tough Guard. And shining a light from behind, the Tough Guard has more “dirt” in it then Ultra or Wix XP, Purolator Boss or any of the “long life, high capacity” filters. I’ve also seen the “black paint” on Purolator One and Baldwin as examples. These are 99% at 20 microns or better as far as I know. They are not rated as long life because they would plug. I’ve seen Baldwins start to collapse after 5000 miles. Not necessarily a bad thing as long as they don’t tear or bypass and as long as people don’t leave them on forever. I leave the “long life synthetic filters”at the store for the 20 k oil changers.

Hard to determine the best filter by looking at the materials used. I'm sure Fram designed the filter medium to perform in a certain way to give us the life expectancy. People also use different brands of oil which could effect engine wear? I chose the Endurance this time around and will be doing a drain and fill every 5,000 miles till I get 25,000 miles out of it. I use 0W20 Extended Protection Valvoline oil on my toyota Corolla. I plan on having this car a very long time and it is worth it to me to do short interval oil changes. Oil is cheaper than a worn out engine. Toyota recommends 10,000 mile intervals on my 2021.

In filtering tests the ppm numbers for the Synthetic Endurance are significantly better although the Ultra's filtering is itself excellent. The Tough Guard's performance is abysmal in contrast. I wouldn't use the Tough Guard.

Kinda' right there with you rich, after seeing all three I don't see the benefit of spending the extra money. That being said, with all three of my vehicles pushing 200k or more, I see more benefit in using a good quality full synthetic oil with MMO added with a good quality filter and changing it @ 4k or less. I would be interested in data on vehicles that are parked a lot and see less mileage... my gut feeling is that the quality of the oil plays a huge part and the recommended 6 month interval isn't that accurate... all comments are welcome. It burns about a quart every 1000 miles. Only problems I have had was a water pump at 225K and steering box/pitman arm recently from off road abuse. As long as you are using a good synthetic and keep fuel filters changed and air filter clean (200 hour intervals) it's extremely rare to get an oil related failure. On our fleet trucks and generators we were doing 2K - 3K hr OCI's. everything from Isuzu, Volvo, Cat, etc. Company gas vehicles were going 20K - 25K OCI's as well.
