One of his roosters fell victim of a predator attack. I told him what happen and what I saw. Living off grid on a homestead is hard at times and loosing animals happens and is never a good thing.

Keeping it Dutch put a big screw eye in a tree near where you put out the bucket of water for the dogs. Get a double end clip like the clip used on horse leads. Clip one end to the screw eye and one to the handle on the bucket. No more knocking buckets over. We did that with the water bucket and feed bucket for the horses.
Great to see Bobby has a new friend in Bandit. Call them the 'Odd Couple'!

We watched a turkey vulture absolutely decimate a squirrel in our front yard. Nothing left but the fur! Was interesting to watch nature, and not on tv. Something for us to watch out for when we get our chickens. Prayers for Northside Preparedness family.

As a lifetime Texan, I must apologize for our winter weather this last couple years 🤣. It normally don't get cold at ALL till February each year, but we are in a 3rd year of La Nina and it makes for cold winters.
I couldn't go to church I couldn't get my frozen car door open and lots of snow and ice on it and warnings not to be on the roads unless it's an emergency. I was home by myself except for my dog and cat.
I just bought my hubby a booster box. Haven’t needed it yet but hope it works as well as yours does. Sure beats those big clunky ones.

Glad you all had a good Christmas. I love the way you talk to the animals, it's sad when any of them get killed like that. It got down to 19 here in the Panhandle of FL, going up to 70 by end of week, crazy weather. Finishing up the ceiling would help to keep heat in, I love that heater so cool.
How about a couple of floor standing fans tokeep the air moving and not accumulating on the ceiling temporarily

They don't really have specific chores but they all help out with the animals, wood, dishes, etc. They enough helping their dad outside the most 😊

Thats got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard, leave homestead knowing a storm is coming with livestock. You need to adult yourself you've chosen another lifestyle, get your priorities in order.

You should have put insulation first
The amount of money you have spent on gas and generators you could have gotten a small solar system that would have been enough power I don't get it
We would have liked to get the solar system. The difference is the gas is spent a little at a time versus the solar system being a large investment up front. We definitely agree that if we were able, that would have been the best decision

Why not put your kitchen cabinets up to the ceiling?
You woulld have less trouuble if you after you use your brush hog you use a riding lawnmower it would give you a lawn in stead of dirt rt mud think about it

We only had 1 water line burst here just south of Dutch in Texas. The Sharkbite fitting to our cold water line on the clothes waster burst 4 days ago, didn't see it for a whole day 😔. Finally got it fixed and water running in the rental again!! Our new 40 acre homestead, we haven't seen it in a week at least 😔

How to "Keep Your Water Troughs From Freezing, A Simple Farm Hack" by Homesteading With Blue Sky's Ranch. This YT video site shares using empty water bottles and use salt inside to make a float and cap and put in tanks to keep water moving. This helped their animals have unfrozen water to drink. Try it. Cheap fix no electric needed.

You really should do under the counter lights. I had them added. It makes a big difference in my kitchen and the amount of lighting that I use. I have pot lights in my kitchen like yours but I like having concentrated light over my stove and meat prep area. I have a swinging light over my kitchen sink that is a round motion censor bulb that turns on when I come in the kitchen and turns off when I leave. It has a switch of its on even though the light does not come on at all during the day are when there is light in the kitchen. It only comes on when its dark. I do not like a dark house.

Sean, if you ever smell something like that again you need to keep a10 - 15 maybe 20 pounds of just plain lime there to cover the stench of it up, it does work that's what I had to use one time it was someone's dog i guess it got hit by a car and died on my proerty....yuck yuck yuck what a a stench that was. 🤮👎😫

And when you get the ceiling insulated you all will feel so much warmer in there too. You might want to think about a couple of ceiling fans to help with air flow. Also throw down some throw rugs.
