You mentioned being prepared with fences before you get goats again. Just like you prepped for the dogs to keep them warm and safe for winter, you may need to build an insulated cat house. If you make it tall you could have easy access to put cat food in it for them. They could run up into it for safety too. Could be a fun project. Best wishes from northern Illinois.

They say to keep them in crates outside during the day at least for 6 weeks. I'm allergic to cats too and we have two. 🤣🤣🤣 Just keep them locked up for a few weeks. I'd use crates or a single crate for both of them for letting the dogs get to know them and they the dogs.

Get large German Shepherd wire crate. Put under shade tree, with your litter and food, and bed in there. Don't forget to put tarp on top. Rain will make a mess of the litter. In a few days, or maybe a week they will get to know who belongs. Not sure how quick they will adapt. Eventually you'll start leaving door tied open a little for cats to get in and out, but dogs can't get through.

A Warming light such as the type fir chicken coops hung low in the shed will warm it enough to keep the cats warm on their higher shelves. Heat rises... cold air falls. Make the cat door down low, but not at the floor level. Putting it a Little higher gives the cold air somewhere to fall Out to.

Our midnight would have been a great barn cat, he loved to go outside... Enjoy the kitties, hope the dogs adjust to them quickly.

You cN buy pet/animal sleeping pads. They are made from hard plastic and have part of the extention cord encased. We just put a piece of old split hose pipe over rest of cord. We have used them for years with outdoor animals. We usually keep them on a concrete pad or porch. They work good with an igloo dome or tub capped over the top to block the wind. And that gives them a good bed.

Best way to do safe intro to your dogs is to put the kittens in a plastic dog crate and set in location where the dogs can come sniff them and they can sniff the dogs ,the kittens will hiss and spit at first but once they start to get used to each other that will stop ,once the hissing and that stops try them in an bigger enclosed area where they can have closer contact with each other ,it usually doesn't take to long for them to adjust..Have supervised contact until they adjust to each oth er..

Start feeding dogs and cats together at the shed door so they can smell each other for like a few weeks. Slowly put them so they can see each other as well. • @mariek8578
    @mariek8578 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Suggestion: allow them to see each other. Like putting a screen type door on the little cabin. Eventually the dogs & cats will smell each other & gain a mutual respect for each other. That, from what I've learned is a process. Bringing one out, or both of them, is imho a recipe for disaster for them running to hide & it is extremely difficult to catch a scared cat. Just some thoughts.👍🏻

Our outdoor cats kept disappearing, pretty sure the coyotes got them. We live in a rural area. My husband finally built them a large outdoor cat house. It has chicken wire, and we put metal over that in the winter, and add a heat lamp. They are loose all day & my son pens them up for the night. We have four, and they are all fixed, the 3 tom cats get along great. The vet told us if we got them fixed when they were young, 6 months I think, they would get along. Its amazing the cats always come up at night so he can put them in the pen.

The way I've introduced cats is to have a door with some space at the bottom that the dogs can smell the kittens. Usually after about a week you can put them together in the same room for a short period (supervised). Have the cats a place where they can get out of the weather with food and water once the dogs get use to the kittens. You will still need to interact with them to keep them close.

The fastest way to get dogs and cats to be friends is to spray them with the same cologne or perfume. Oh wait that may be cats with new cat's, but it may also work with the dogs too. As long as the dogs leave them alone. But someone mentioned below to put them in a cage near the dogs for a few days to get them used to each other. Maybe in a cage in the dog house overnight, after a few days?

German shepherds are usually pretty good with cats. You want to introduce one cat to one dog first. Then introduce the same cat to the other dog. Then have both dogs with same cat. You can introduce both cats the same day to the same dog then the next do with other dog just one cat at a time so neither animal gets to stressed. We always did it in a controlled area where we were watching them but neither animal could get out. Which meant either animal was aggressive then we could grab them quickly so no one became hurt

Cute kittens. I’m allergic if scratched. I swell like a mosquito bite. But I still have 2 and 2 big doges. I put my dogs in their crates and let the cats loose. But these are indoor animals. I wouldn’t know how to do outside animals. Thank you.

    Oh so cute 🐾😽
If you have a small kennel put the cats in it and let the dogs get to know them through the kennel that way they can't run off

Put the kittens on a leash & that way you can take them outside & if big dogs been around cats then the cats will have to get used to them ! It might be a little bit before they like each other! Luna never was around cats & her best friend is Jax

Basically the same system that Daniel at Arms has on his second property. Basic system, easy to set up. Looking into this system for an off-grid camping set-up. I live in an apartment, and the power rarely goes out, here, so no real need to hook up the house to this. (Not sure how I'd do that, without violating some rental terms either, and no real access to full time sun.)

That's awesome that Pat is from Minnesota. That's where I'm from to. I'm about a hour north of Duluth and surrounded by mine pits

Harness train them 1st and start with Lily introduce them to her at the same time. 1 will be afraid the other will be braver then slowly they will get use to the dogs it does take time my cat grew up with a dog and her kittens were skidish of the dogs at first. But that age us perfect to start the harness.

Many youtubers keep their cats 3 weeks in a closed area. It is important to be around them so they associate you as being at home. What is important is that they are well fed, so they associate food with where they are. That is until they start hunting. Then you give them less food, so if they don't have any mice to catch they can still eat. Especially in winter when the mice don't run around as much.

I would put the kittens in a cage/carrier and let Gabby and Gracey check them out. It's safe for everyone.
You can even open the door of the carrier. The kittens can stay inside until they feel safe to come out
As long as the kittens have a safe place out of the elements they'll be fine. Any or building they can get in and or of freely will work well. You can get a heating pad and keep it where they sleep and that'll keep them warm if they need it.

If you keep the kittens in the shed for about 2 weeks they will learn that is there home and are less likely to run off. If you let them out now they will probably run off scared.

You could get a cat door that only your cats can enter to let them into/out of your house or the little house.

Feed them and they will stay. Give them a place to get up high. Stay with them when you introduce them to the dogs and give them space.

Welcome with the family cats to the homestead. I’m allergic also, but I’d definitely get some to take care of rodents and keep them from the house. The dogs will relearn about staying away from the kittens. It was cute watching Pearl and Percy eating the bread…funny! 🥰💕🙏🏻🙋🏼‍♀️

They just need a little cat house and they will be fine outside. You can get a sweeter heater also if you want.

maybe put a temp fence around the door and let them go in and out on there own see the dogs and get used to the dogs. Best to feed them. There be natural mousers.

Put butter on their paws and they will stay put. it has worked for everyone that I have told, when they have moved to new places.
