- We search the abandoned bus and find something great, I wonder it's actually worth. We have spent the day cleaning the bus out and saving what we think is worth saving. The abandoned homestead is slowly getting cleaned up.

His son will be so happy to have those pictures and papers. Thank you for being the kind of people who would not just pitch everything into a dumpster. You took the time to look through things to give to the family and to donate to others. Great job in the continued clean-up.
It is hard to not get frustrated and irritated with the work load. If it is your families home, the memories give you pause and even laughter. Cleaning out my mother's clothes dresser, we found some wood blocks. I didn't remember them, but my sister-in-law did. Rememeber when the boys were 3 and 4 they played with these and usually fought over them because there weren't enough of the blocks. My nephew smiled and laughed and said, "Can I keep them?" Why sure you can.

Sometimes the littlest thing has more value than a pot of gold.
I bought a storage locker that had a soldiers medal of valor and several other papers from his service and finally found his kids and they didn't want anything to do with it. So I donated it to the VFW and it's displayed there to this day

Been there, done that. Though not on a bus, and not that big a mess (close though). My parents had rental property when I was in school and sometimes when people left they left a mess. My two sisters and I helped clean up after the renters on weekends and after school for a couple of weeks (multiple properties). The really bad thing was one of the rentals the people left their dog chained up without food and water. We took him home, and he turned out to be one of the best pets/guard dogs we ever had.

I love the cedar chest. They used to be called hope chest. Girls were supposed to put items in that they might one day use in their homes when they got married.

Awesome finds in the bus! Especially the cedar chest. I have one that when my grandmother passed away I got a cedar chest. Now I keep it in my front room. Great memories! I call it my hopeless chest. LOL

I was thinking that maybe if you had put the smaller things together in a bucket or basket, you wouldn't have made so many trips in and out the door, but then your oldest started doing that.. Awesome video! Everyone pitching into help sure made the job a lot quicker. So cool you're give the kids his old pickers of when he was in the Marine Corp. The my Dad's second wife, stepparent, she started throwing everything of his away. We found out after he had passed she never loved my Dad and disowned me and threw all of our childhood pictures and all my Dad's old pictures from when he was in the Air Force. Broke my heart to find out she had done that, especially when it didn't mean anything to her. Sorry didn't mean to go on about my family but I think y'all are so wonderful to save the old stuff and give it to the family. It isn't worth thousands but it is worth it to them, most likely. I just love how the girls help out especially Hayden, she is awesome!

That bus could actually make a very cool tiny home or some other type of teen hangout. If I were you I'd challenge the girls. They or at least one of them could take on the restoration as a project and learn how to do all kinds of things in the process. When done they can choose to keep it or sell it & they keep the money!

You have found some fun items in there. Clothes could be washed at a laundromat and left at a rescue center for the homeless.
If you take two dust pans and use them to lift all that trash off the floor, it keeps your hands out of it and possibly prevents anything from harming your hands.

You could use that chest as a coffee table. Just glue shelf back together and use 220 sand paper and lightly sand it wipe it off with lint free cloth. Then put a coat of satin urethane on it to protect it and after it drys, sand again and do the same as before to seal it.
When cleaning out my grandmother 's place we found that she hid money in books. Several hundred dollars, a 20 here and there. Started flipping through all her books. My mom found over 600 in 20 dollar bills.
Let the girls name the bus and paint it their favorite color. It will make a good get away place for a day .

I’ve got an old school bus on my property and my kids have made it into their own little hangout. We never got around to totally restoring it, and it couldn’t make it over the mountain passes for family vacations, so it’s been a tiny home in progress for umpteen years. My oldest is 17 and thinking about making it her room/home now. She’s tired of waiting for us to finish it. It’s quite cozy as it is! That cedar chest is almost exactly like the one I have sitting at the end of my bed. The top split just like that when my kids were little. It was an easy fix with some wood glue and clamps.
that small appliance that you found is called a Boss today but started as a turbo wave oven -- air frying and didn't know it. /I have one

AFter cleaning out parents houses who have passed, it was strange in what things we see has value. Most of this stuff is not antique. It is broken and dirty. It is hard to see so much refuse. It takes money to reclaim an item and it takes money to dispose of it. Makes you think of how much we have spent through the years and wasted.

That little chest is called a "Blanket Box". It was kept at the end of the bed for cool weather. Good find!🌻👍🌻
Girls called them Hope Chests and would start collecting linens and items for when they left home and got married.
Then, after they were married, they became blanket storage as you said, and it was practically mandatory to put them at the foot of the bed. Days before Walmart’s and women often didn’t work outside the home.

My guess on that glass dome thing you took out is it is a counter-top convection oven from about 20-25 yrs ago.
5:58 it's a nuwave air fryer. They we're only sold on live auction TV in the early 90's. My aunt bought one for almost the same money as a electric stove 😂

The golden peacock is a home decoration that was sold by a company called Home Interiors. Women back in the 70’s and 80’s would have parties and share decorating ideas and order from this company.

Great progress on the bus. Before you let that mattress go, you might want to take a close look at it to see if there are signs that something may be hidden inside it. That is a common hiding place for many.
The cedar chest is wonderful! Im betting the lid was made by 2 planks and where it broke was where the 2 planks were glued up. Its cool you can give his military stuff too his kids
