My first Mac! I purchased a used iMac G4 in 2006. Fell in love with Apple. I was not expecting it to run as good as it did back in the day.. It was actually still really usable, even for watching TH-cam back when videos were capped at 10 min and not high resolution..
I have one of these, an absolute joy to take apart. The white paper on the hard drive was standard. Like the beautiful white PanaFlo fan, its just aesthetic that absolutely no one would look at. Also, American McGee's Alice is a good fit for this.
This is the last iMac G4 to natively run MacOS 9.2 as well! It's great for OS 9 games such as Simcity 3000, DeusEx, MDK, Carmageddon, Nanosaur, they all run very smooth. Some later G4 towers are more powerful, but they're also a lot noisier. If you're into classic OS 9 gaming, this iMac G4 is definitely worth getting.
Yeah its a shame that Apple dropped OS9 boot support in the later G4s. OS9 games just don't run as well in classic mode. I couldn't get SC3K to run at a playable speed at all in 10.4!
This was my very favourite of the Macs. And you have the speakers!! I would so dearly love to find one to restore and have in pride of place on my desk. I was 20 when I got my first Mac in the early 80's if only I had been able to keep every one I have ever had :( My kids loved our special edition snow emac best and the colourful clams laptops. Well done well presented too, Thank you for the memory.
I watch a ton of your videos, I love them! They are done so well and you make them fun to watch. Thank you for your content and have fun on your holiday!!
This computer physical design was ahead of it's time. This is fire. I've never seen it before, we just had huge dino dells growing up back in the 90s/00 but goosh it would have been dope to log into myspace on this bad boy.
I bought exactly the same imac back in 2003 and still have it tucked away somewhere along with a more recent one with 17 inch display. Definitely both are keepers.
Another great video! I have one of these kicking around. I did my L-Plate Driver Knowledge Test in 2017 on one of these, with a 3M Touch Screen attached to it. I was surprised Service NSW was still using them. Shortly after, I bought one for myself (to add to my collection). It's very handy as the middleman machine for burning ISOs and such for my older Macs, with files transferred from my PC.
I've got one of these. I ripped out the motherboard and fitted a intel NUC in the base, along with a hackintosh install. Makes a great talking piece in my kitchen. Soldering the screen cable to a DVI cable was the hardest part!
Ah yes YellowDog Linux. I have memories installing that on my PS3 back when you could using the 'other OS' feature. Used it as a desktop PC for a while.
Great review! I bought mine the day it came out back in 2002. I added the airport card and 512 MB or RAM. I also got the "eyeball" speakers, along with a Harman Kardon transparent subwoofer. Although I've purchased two more iMacs since then--one in 2009 and the latest in 2015, I still occasionally listen to music on my trusty G4, which still works great! Thanks for bringing back lots of good memories!
The most iconic of the iMacs. I went on the Web to buy one of these in 2004 but Apple had updated the design to the overheating and hideously ugly G5 iMac. Timelessly modern, as all functional designs, the fully adjustable G4 deserves to be resurrected. Nowadays, to adjust the height of a Intel or M1 iMac, one has to place it on a pile of books! Great to see all of your videos and have a great holiday!
I wonder if you could fit an M1 Mac Mini Logic board in there and use get a display adapter to use IMac’s display.... Would be a neat Idea, but don’t know how hard it would be...
Only 2-3 months ago I went through this exact process , picked up the 17 inch version for only 25 euro and love it :) wish I has those pro speakers aswell ;D
If you ever come across one of the iSub 2000s, they pair phenomenally with these things. The sound quality you get with the beautifully enhanced highs from the Pro Speakers and the floor shaking bass from the USB subwoofer is breathtaking. Better than anything Apple has shipped before or since.
I love watching these restorations. Great work, fun video! I do wish you had replaced the old hard drive with an SSD. OWC has (or at least, used to have) SSDs which have the right form factor and interface for these old desktop Macs. They actually make fun "game consoles" if you can get your hands on some PPC games and make a kind of cool gift for the right type of person.
I've had one of these sitting around for a while. Been needing to fix it up some. Then trade it for something else. Like an intel G5. This G4 is a 1.25ghz, 768mhz, and 17" screen. Original drive. It buzzes on cold boots and sometimes displays the globe. Gotta work on it and install the classic partition.
honestly. my dell optiplex 780 (that is my daily used pc) halo ce runs fantastic on medium settings btw this guy makes very helpful and inspiring videos.
I have one of the later iMac G4 models, but it still is amazing like this one. Apple really needs to reconsider this idea for their newer iMac systems. They already brought back the colors so they really should explore this design too!
I noticed that in 2021, there was some fashion for old technology from Apple, even before Steve Jobs introduced the first Macbook on Intel processors. Thanks for video))) Cheers

@@Fizzyguy201Sonicguy6 yes

The MOST iconic, because g3 now looks weird, but this is the best design and first LCD iMac!
You know it’s gonna be a good day when Psivewir uploads :)

The design has an Art Deco vibe about it. It's a beautiful iMac.
As always, job well done.

This is the only tech channel I like. with the fact that I don't really like any tech channels other than this guy.
Our IT helpdesk at our school has one of these sitting on a bench when you enter. it is quite interesting seeing just how small it all is.

YESSSSSSS!
Get that eucalyptus on it! I was the dude that tweeted you about having just bought one of these myself - lovely machines. :)
I really wish apple made another PC like this. that monitor arm is amazing
I've never seen a system with mixed so-dimms and regular dimms before. wild!
I like the Imac G4's design so much. Apple havn't done any design like this for a long time.
Wow! Perfect timing! I just got a 17" 1GHz last week! Love it!!!
Another great video! I have one of these kicking around. I did my L-Plate Driver Knowledge Test in 2017 on one of these, with a 3M Touch Screen attached to it. I love the iMac G4, probably the coolest computer Apple ever made.
I also have one of those computers. I bought it for $20 after looking for a while and it runs great. Slow, but great.
Speakers as eyes, disk drive slot as mouth and Apple logo as nose you get a cute little robot 6:21

One question, that makeup brush with which you clean, doesn't it generate static? Or is it a specific material? Or is it a normal one?

2:50 at .25 speed I couldn't see the frame where it flew off, how fast do you think it went?
Would be super awesome if you could get your hands on the late model with the 20 inch display and see what it can do!
