If I'm not mistaken, this has a 32-bit EFI but a 64-bit processor, so many new 64 bit Linux distros won't work out of the box.
You'll need to prepare a special USB installer which uses a 32-bit bootloader and then switches over to 64-bit when loading the OS.
There are text guides online on how to do this, but no videos AFAIK. Might be worth a vid.

5:57 not sure exactly what could've been the problem, but I suspect that you might've needed to change time and date through terminal due to multiple certificates being expired. Since those certificates are possibly (and most likely) expired, then that usually tells the computer to reject the macOS install.
This is just my guess, but I think that might be the reason why the install was rejected by your Mac.
P.S. If you're wondering to which date your mac should be set to, then try something like a year before the release of the system you're trying to install (Lion's release date was in 2011, so try changing it to 2010 or etc)

So the basic reason why Lion always fails to install now is that its digital certificate has expired. The easy fix to get it installed is to roll your laptops time back to around 2011-2012 and that will fool it into thinking its signed. Took me a few frustrating hours to figure that one out

If you want to install it, you will need to change the clock date as signatures in the installer prevent Lion from installing on a date after or before it's release as at 5:55 . I've seen dozens of them and own a few, they are not rare at all. They were produced in the tens of thousands. It was a midrange option between a white macbook and a 15inch pro. There was no 13 inch pro back then, so this was there to fill that slot. It is just really old, you don't see them because they are hardly usable anymore.

I got one new when they came out and returned it a week and a half later. I was already annoyed that Apple was charging an extra $150 for the "privilege" of having the black color version. As I used it I found that glossy display would often cause glare on the screen. I also had a 2006 15" Powerbook G4 at the time with a matte display. Preferring the matte over the gloss was a second ding against the Macbook. Also with the display mine had a brownish tone/tint to it, depending on the viewing angle. Probably not that big a deal but since I did not like the random glare occurring this didn't help either. The biggest nail in the coffin for me was that it felt slow. I did not understand this at first as the store display models felt a bit snappier. I went to the store again to check theirs. I found the display models in the store all had 768 MB of RAM while my unit had 512. They slipped an extra 256 MB stick in theirs while the product card next to the display listed the RAM at 512 MB. Granted this wasn't a massive leap in performance, it was however the principle of it. Having already paid extra for the black color to then go out and spend additional money to add more RAM did not sit right with me so I returned it.

While I never owned the black version, I have the Macbook Early 2008 white edition. I used it for a good while before getting a new device. It's actually possible to swap logic boards with a Macbook 5,2, aka Early-Mid 2009. I swapped them and it now runs El Capitan natively, along with Mojave and even Big Sur with patchers. It's worth it, in my opinion, if you have the time and money to do it. These logic boards usually cost around $30 USD. All of the parts fit in the new logic board except for the SuperDrive, due to an interface change.

I know this may be far fetched, but anyone knowledgable with computers in general, would it be possible (with a bit of customization of course) to have lets say, a brand spankin new 2022 MacBook Pro (maxed out), remove everything on the inside and put it on the black MacBook? Pretty much having the whole black MacBook frame and housing, but the hardware is from 2022?

    • @MrFel99
      @MrFel99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Its possible, but a M2 Macbook Air may be a better starting point, as the Pro's motherboards appear to be much longer which would interfere with the optical drive. There would be a number of major hardware compatibility challenges. These are some that I have thought of:
      * Display, as either you would have to put in a convertor (the connection used is much different for older MacBooks), or find if the LCD in the new Macbook's fit (in which case you have to extract it from the display assembly). Also, a 1280x800 display isn't much use nowadays, a lot of applications require 1368x768 or higher for them to work properly. The display cable may have to be extended too, if the SoC would not be in a similar position.
      * Apple logo would need additional illumination, if non original display is kept.
      * Keyboard would need a custom 'adapter' PCB in order to make it compatible with the M2 board.
      * The touchpad conversion may be a challenge as the connector and 'protocol' used is different. This will at least require a conversion board similar to the keyboard, or an attempt to make it USB. Maybe it would involve exploring if Apple's external touchpad's workings.
      * The existing battery would either have to be adapted or the M2's reworked to fit (maybe fold them?).
      * If a direct replacement, the Magsafe port may be easy to replace.
      * Optical drive would have to be adapted into a USB interface - fortunately the newer ones appear to be SATA and adapter boards are readily available.
      * Ports would have to be adapted to fit from a dongle.
      * Webcam would have to be refitted from the M2, probably from new display assembly. Alternatively another laptop's webcam can be adapted to USB (a lot of them are already USB).
      * Microphones would have be repositioned to match holes in body, which could be a challenge if the camera board also houses the microphones on a PCB. Alternatively, reusing a USB mic will probably work.
      * Speakers will either have to be refitted from M2 Air, or older ones adapted.
      * Case will require extensive planning and rework to make sure everything fits.
This is almost all of the considerations I can think of if retrofitted from a M2 Air. Needless to say, it would take a lot of work. On the bright side, a bit of space would be freed up as the storage is inbuilt into the motherboard and newer components are much much thinner making it possible to fit them in. Even more can be freed up if the battery assembly was glued in place and reworked.
